I've been coming to Moody's almost every summer for over 20 years for the delicious burgers & fries, great service and cozy patio atmosphere. Only have had 1-2 poor experiences with service or food but not bad enough to keep me from returning. Shared the bleu cheese burger and fries with my daughter on Friday afternoon. Food was served cut in half on 2 plates (with maybe extra fries?! Thank you !) and it was delicious as always. This place could be so cool with such minimal effort. The only thing that's decent is the outside patio. And only for drinks because the food is not great. Avoid the fish sandwich. It's basically a sad Filet-o-fish. For a few thousand dollars the interior restaurant could be really cool. They've got fireplaces and a beautiful bar that spans the whole room. But there's no seating at the bar. There's almost zero lighting in the entire interior so the place looks closed most of the time. The tables are never set up in a way that seems inviting. It's just sad. This place is ripe for the Bar Rescue show. It could be such a cool neighborhood spot but it's so disappointing. They are truly missing out on a great opportunity. Fries for us were underdone so really not good. The ranch is definitely Kraft ranch which shouldn't exist because it's disgusting. Can't say much about the waitress. Everyone has heard of Moody's. Went there for the first time. Dimly lit bar on the inside. Large patio to the side. The menu has five or six sandwiches on it. I don't know what happened to Moody's Pub. I i've been going to Moody's Pub since it opened a long long time ago, and the food was always excellent. The onion rings were big and plump, and they tasted fresh. The outdoor garden was beautiful this year. It was dull. The hamburgers were big and juicy not anymore. It's funny how the staff is even changed. They're not as intensive as they used to be. They're good but not great. It really is sad to see such a wonderful place. Go downhill and become a place that I don't think I ever go to again as I said the onion rings tasted frozen. The potatoes were limp and the hamburger was dry. Outdoor patio is really nice to eat in when the weather is good. Burgers are good. Service is good. Atmosphere is nice. Friendly staff.

We walked by this quaint pub with shaded, secluded outdoor seating when it wasn't open. We decided to come back days later and were glad we did. The outdoor seating area is comfortable, shady, and quiet enough to have a conversation but still feel the city behind the fence separating the sidewalk from the diners. My wife had a fish sandwich which was generously adorned with tomatoes, lettuce, and onion as well as a heaping helping of home cut French Fries. I ordered the Cheesy Moodyburger. It was handmade and tasted like the burgers you remember from your childhood from the grill. I loved that they brought out school cafeteria-style ketchup and mustard bottles. The food was great. The atmosphere was exceptional. It's worth the stop for sure. read more

I always was a Moody's fan...for years. But it's not the same. The last two deliveries and the latest dine in has been horrible. Very undercooked fries, cold or miss-cooked order and the dine in, the cheese was not melted- it was like a cheese square fresh out on the fridge added to the burger. Maybe they felt the cheese would melt from the heat of the burger...the problem was the burger was cold (and I asked to warm it up to melt the cheese and the burger was still cold. Wow the place was so dark inside I thought they were closed. There's mood lighting then there's Medieval lighting. There was no one the, I guess Monday's right after opening isn't a busy time. I ordered the Moody's Sloppy Joe Sandwich ($12). The sandwich was very good on a very good bun. Most buns don't stand up well this one did. The portion size was huge. It almost felt like a pound of beef, but was probably half a pound. It was seasoned just right. It hit my sloppy joe craving perfectly. Since the don't offer refills on Sodas I got a pitcher for $7. This worked. The service was Good and I got my food quickly. Overall a 4 1/2 star review. Rounded that becomes a 4 star. They are an old timey restaurant established in 1959. I would love to try their burgers. Would I return? Yes, the next time I'm in Chicago I'll be back. read more

Basically it's a cool old looking place with some basic divey bar food. If it doesn't seem cool to you, then you might be moody. Moody's Pub is like an old British pub but with even worse food if you can believe that. A beautiful old interior with stones and wood, and some stained glass. There's also a nice patio. A lot of good drinks. It's certain better than any food. This is a place we went recently and were disappointed with the mediocre selection. Drinks are the only thing we recommend from here. The best one is the Jaker's Mark. It's $8 for a big glass. This is lemonade, orange juice, and whiskey. Simple but good. The food sucks. It has limited vegetarian choices. We each got a Black Bean Chipotle Burger. It's $10.50 with a side like fries. This was a mushy patty. Most spice seemed to be chipotle powder, just lazy. The burger comes with lettuce and onions. Best thing is the atmosphere. It has a cool interior and patio. The menu is lame for vegetarians. read more

I've heard good things about Moody's so maybe my expectations were a bit high when I went in. Look, the patio is amazing, the summer vibe is excellent and service is friendly. But the burgers were just ok. And the burgers weren't exactly cheap either at like $15+. The burgers are kept simple, big patties with lettuce tomato onion and if you want anything more, you're paying up. The burgers are grilled to the point that the whole venue smells of the smoke from the grill. Which is kinda cool but man, nobody can sit inside because of the smoke. Cheese curds tho, great option. Classic midwest menu. I had a good time and would come if others wanted to come back. That beer garden/patio area is massive and a true escape from the city. But the food, just so-so in my book, especially for the price. read more

If you can look past the average food, you'll really like Moodys. Inside it has the looks of an old, lodge type restaurant, but it's outdoor space is what makes it worth your while. The outdoor space is HUGE. By the time we left around 1:30 there were quite a lot of people on the front section, but the back section was still fairly empty so I'd imagine you wouldn't have to worry about not finding a table on most days. The staff was super friendly even though they seemed a little short staffed. We had a few beers and drinks, three cheeseburgers, the steak sandwich, and a turkey burger and we weren't displeased with any of it, but as others have alluded too there was nothing to scream it's praises about either. However our total bill came out to 100 dollars for five people, and for drinks, food, and an awesome outdoor space I'd say that's a steal! read more

A friend suggested to meet up at this restaurant since he's been here before, several times. This pub is certainly a neighborhood gem. We were able to grab a table in the bi-level patio. The tables are spread apart which is nice. The patio is certainly large with a casual atmosphere. The server had greeted us few minutes after we were seated and went over the limited menu. By the time the drinks were brought to us, we were ready to place the order. My friend had ordered the turkey burger while I decided to try the shrimp basket. About 15 minutes, the meals were delivered. The large portioned meal were well seasoned and tasted great. The server checked in with us several times without being overbearing. It's sad to see how far this place has fallen. I joined some friends here the other night. I hadn't been here in several years, but the beer selection is still limited and the sangria still tastes like cheap wine and Kool-aid. Back in the 1990s and 2000s, you could count on getting a good burger and decent cocktail. That has changed. I was stunned to see my burger was an obviously pre-frozen patty. it tasted like nothing. Ordered medium, got well done. Even at half the price, it would have been a disappointment. Fries were not seasoned at all. Onion rings were clearly not cooked in hot enough oil. No one wants a big gush of grease in their mouth on their first bite. Also no seasoning. Seriously, someone teach the cook how to use salt. If you are drawn in by the beer garden-- and it is a nice outdoor space-- do not order an old fashioned. There is a good chance you will, as did I, receive a little glass of cheap whiskey on ice with a cherry in it. Even a plain club soda had a dishwater taste. We were with a larger group and the server screwed up the checks badly. Not intentionally I think, but the server should have asked for help or come back to clarify if he was having trouble keeping things straight. The manager, who was about the most ineffective manager I've ever seen, should have been paying attention sooner. And he definitely should have comped the bill more readily when it was obvious that the same items were being billed multiple times. I don't expect Moody's will be operating much longer. Sitting outside in the few weeks it's nice enough to do it is just not worth the terrible food and service. read more

First time here! It's been overdue coming to this joint. Came on recommendation and went with some friends on a weekend night. Atmosphere: Sat in their patio outside. The vibes are inviting outside with plenty of patrons enjoying the warm weather but also really cool on the inside; cozy and dark which perfect for colder weather. It used to be a church. Service: Standard. No complaints. Our waitress was attentive and took our orders with no issues and was friendly. Drinks: We had a pitcher of sangria with fruit which many swore by to be great. Definitely fulfilled that expectation. It was refreshing and everyone enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend it. The others in my party ordered margaritas but they mentioned it wasn't anything special. Food: All of us had burgers with slightly different styles. But for the most part they were okay. Burger was cooked over my liking; well done rather than the medium well requested. The bleu cheese on my burger with bacon topping was the best part of it. None of our burgers' buns were toasted and definitely would've benefited the overall taste. Fries were a bit on the soggy side. We have been looking to try this place for awhile. The inside looks incredibly dark so we waited for a nice day to sit on their awesome patio. The patio looks to be much bigger than the restaurant and even though on Broadway felt secluded. The menu is really simple. Burgers and other grilled or fried items and some drinks. We both went with cheese burgers which came with fries and were only 12 bucks. I would have liked the burger to come with a little more seasoning but it was pretty good and the topping(lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle) were all in good quantities Vs many other places that skimp on that these days. The beer steins felt smaller than a pint but the price wasn't bad. Service was attentive and even tho a busy patio the food came out fast. We will be back many times this summer! read more

God bless the folks at Moody's at they are trying to do their best during this pandemic. Collectively, I've been here about 10-15 times since living in Rogers Park since 2009 and overall, I have not been disappointed. When you were able to eat inside it was cozy and intimate with a nice fireplace and for sure dark (so you'd have to use your flashlight on your phone sometimes). However it was great as the Burgers are charred wonderfully. Going back to yesterday, we sat outside in the patio which is the huge charm of this business. They did a great job of social distancing and enforcing the wearing of your mask. I was burgered out yesterday so I had their Salad and added Grilled Chicken to it which was fine. Everyone else did their Burger - cooked differently across the board (Medium is fine with me) along with Fries. I had a bite here and there and they were all consistent. Their fries are fresh cut fries which are great and they provided pre packaged condiments as well. I also appreciate them expanding their beer menu a tad to include Temperance on draft. Before it was just Michelob and Becks or Stella. Luckily the weather wasn't too bad around Noon at 55 degrees but I'm curious how they will prepare for colder days. Also they accept credit cards now as I believe they were cash only for a long time. When the Bank isn't open, you can park in their lot and there's also parking along Broadway as necessary! Went this past Thursday around 6 with a friend and sat in the patio. We both ordered a bleu cheese burger, med well, a margarita and an order of onion rings to share. The onion rings arrived before we even got our drinks or water. They were delicious but timing was off...should have had our drinks first. The burgers were dry and the fries were just ok-many were stuck together-not fully cooked. I have been coming to Moody's every summer with family and friends for over 20 years and the burgers are juicy even when cooked med well. The waitress never came to ask us how our food was, if we wanted/needed anything else. This also has never happened before-service has always been attentive and friendly-but not tonight. We were there well over an hour. Not acceptable. We had to flag her down to get our check. I told her we were disappointed she had not once come by our table to ask if all was good or if we needed anything. Her reply was that she didn't want to interrupt us because we were talking. Really?!We spent over $70 for our for (except for the yummy onion rings) mediocre meal and poor service. read more

The outside patio is very large and spacious. The waiters and host were very friendly, attentive, and accommodating too. At the end of the day tho the food was a huge disappointment. The burgers were very dry and very small. The fries were kinda soggy and not well seasoned. On the plus side, the sangria was awesome so I'd recommend that. read more

This is one of those places that only really does one thing, but does that thing very, very well. If you go, you order a cheeseburger. As simple as that. And the cheeseburgers are very, very good. The interior is super dark (it's kind of their thing), but their patio is second to none, so I definitely recommend going during warmer weather, when you can sit outside. The only reason this isn't five stars is because the non-alcoholic drink options are extremely limited, and really aren't very good. They only offer Coke products, and they're all formulated more for mixing with drinks (like you often find in bars), and don't taste very good on their own. They also serve fountain drinks in beer mugs with ice, and while that's kind of cool, it's basically a literal cup of soda, which means your drink is always gone by the time your food comes, no matter how much you nurse it/how watery you let it get. And they're busy, which means your food is half gone by the time you get a refill. But even that would be fine, except the coup de grace is that they don't offer free refills. And I mean, come on. It's not 1976. Pretty much every place in the universe offers free refills now. I've worked in food service, and even the cheapest owners on the planet offer free refills and give their employees free soda drinks, because those fountain syrup boxes cost almost nothing. it just seems extremely stingy. I started by saying that you should only go there if you want a cheeseburger, but I'll actually amend it to say that you probably shouldn't go if you don't drink. So, cheeseburgers and beer, probably the best place on the north side, if not the city. But if you don't perfectly fit that criteria, then it might have some limitations for you. read more
