I usually come here on some Tuesday nights when my son is with his dad (I get most Tuesdays but there are exceptions sometimes) to come out to support my friend Dave G. who is currently running karaoke here. The staff is very nice, the bartender seems like an expert as far as serving up a busy bar crowd. They serve food but be aware if you order food you need to ask for it from the kitchen cook directly and you have to pay the kitchen cook instead of the bar for the food. My husband noticed during that time that several people had walked in and then walked right back out. I was looking forward to listening to some R&B music, so we finally headed inside but was stopped at the door by the bouncer who said there was a cover charge of $20 for men and $10 for women. I said, "For a neighborhood bar? It's not even 12 yet..." To be honest, it felt a bit sketchy because it seemed like the bouncer was uncomfortable even telling us that there was a cover charge - and a pretty high one (for LI) at that. Now we understood why so many people walked in and then left seconds later. It's too bad though because it sounded like the music would've been just what we wanted, and this was our first night out without our kids in forever so we were prepared to stay out late and drink all night. I just don't like feeling like I'm being taken advantage of. We simply walked down the block to Dunn's River and paid a $5 cover (which is more realistic for this area) - and the music and vibe were totally worth it. I guess The New Vibe didn't want our business....or the 6 others that went in and walked right back out before us.
