A schoolhouse library…read more Libraries and schools have a lot in common and indeed some of the very coolest libraries I have been in have been former schoolhouses. The Minneola Schoolhouse Library was built way back in 1885 and is the oldest remaining school building in the city. Like many of the old schoolhouse libraries this one is literally dripping with history and serves more as a museum than a library. Cool old photographs and pictures grace the walls and the schoolhouse origin is very obvious. Although the diminutive library has computers, wi-fi and the usual stuff, care was taken to integrate everything so the historic flavor is never lost. This is a place where the people working here want you to know, appreciate and feel the memories and past oozing from the walls. The voices from a time now gone still speak loudly here. Like many small libraries the librarians here are amazing friendly and knowledgeable and took pleasure and pride in showing us around and explained the history of the buildling and town. We ended up staying here for quite a while and talked to just about everyone that came up. In a library like this it is almost expected that you say hello and act friendly toward everyone else. A library that is so cool that the books are almost irrelevant.

I reserved a room for a work meeting and Ardina decided to aggressively barge in to loudly to yell at me for an empty cup and question me about the name on the reservation. The power trip was insane. The woman is clearly unwell and I am concerned about her working for our local government.

Our teacher told us that she isn't an artist, she's a librarian who wants to make opportunities for us, and you know that set the students at ease! We were able to focus on having fun and experimenting with whichever design we wanted to do because fireworks are not cookie cutter shapes! They are irregular, which works very well for me who is new at painting. These classes offered at the library can be reserved on line and they fill up fast, so don't sleep on it! I was very happy with the atmosphere and friendly environment. They provide everything, the canvas, the paints, water and brushes. Even their library cards feature pictures of butterflies. Friendly staff are quick to help you find what you need. Classes are available for local residents. And self-checkouts are available, as well as access to public computers. I am a committed bibliophile and thrilled the Mount Dora Library is here to support my reading adventures.

I recently attended a storytime class at the North Orange branch. Mr. Bill was the moderator for this session, as well as another one we attended about a year ago. He mentioned he hasn't been there recently, so there may be a different moderator at times. Mr. Bill was engaging, funny, and did a great job encouraging parents to actively participate alongside their children. My girls especially loved the puppets he used! OCLS continues to impress with its quality programming, and we'll definitely be back.
