The employees are incredibly rude and treat patrons like they hate them. They work bankers hours and you're never more than five feet from a sign with threats on it. There's absolutely no reason to treat taxpayers like this; we may as well just not have a library. I reserved a room for a work meeting and Ardina decided to aggressively barge in to loudly to yell at me for an empty cup and question me about the name on the reservation. The power trip was insane. Gets my recommendation as a library: lots of books and magazines! Free wifi. Computers if u need them ( I don't). Quiet. Good help if you can't find a book. Many desk, sofas, and carols. Great to go for a planning day or just to catch up on current magazines. Only thing missing is the " old library smell". But then: one can't have everything!! read more

I visit Cooper Memorial Library about twice a week. Once with my children and once solo. I don't usually have time to browse the shelves, except for the circular themed display when you first walk in and the first rack of new releases. I typically reserve books online and come in when they arrive. The reservation system is amazing! The kids library section is always fun! My children typically pick out 8 books that we read throughout the week. They also partake in the coloring sheets and the art projects that are available, while I can sit at a table and read. Half of the computers in the kids section are broken, so it would be nice if those were fixed, but I appreciate that the computers are available for the kids to use for ABC Mouse or other learning games! read more

I had to go to this library to return some books for a friend who is ill. The books looked like they were brand new and never read! Everything went very smoothly with returning the books, one of which was overdue. The bottom floor of the library seemed empty, just a few shelves of books in the distance and no other patrons. There were a lot of cars in the parking lot, i guess the library is used for other things besides the books on the first floor! read more

This particular library is my least favorite, but, I go there every month for one of the 3 Book Clubs I belong to. I feel that with every visit, they have less to offer the public. This particular library is joined with UCF and caters more to students, than the public,so the book selections seem be less, the reading areas are gone in return for more study tables, the magazine and newspaper sections have been reduced from 6 racks to just half of one rack. The UCF campus that is joined with this public library is just the 1 of the Lake County campuses. read more

The library itself would be pretty nice but, it's the people who go there that makes me give it only two stars. Upstairs, the library does offer about 60-80 computers for people to use but, most of the time something is wrong with them because so many dummies use them and screw them up. Normally, the computers are being used by about 1/3 students who are copy and pasting their research papers and about 1/3 local internet addicts who go up there everyday for hours and play games, watch music videos and sign up for welfare. The computers are always filthy dirty... I'd suggest you bring anti-bacterial wipes. The staff are all very nice but, none of them really do anything. On an average day, there will be around 12-15 people "working". There is only enough "work" for maybe 1 or 2 people to do. It's sad to see our tax dollars being wasted to pay people to sit around all day and do nothing. The book selection isn't great. Mostly outdated encyclopedias, romance novels and magazines that no one reads. Bill O"Reilly had the number one selling book on the NY times best seller list for months but, it was not to be found at Cooper Memorial. All the staff here are Democrats... I guess that's the reason for the lack of books with actual information. read more

okay... so this is my local library... Size wise I'm not impressed. I'd expect more from a library that is attached to a college! This is also a county library, so there are several other libraries that make up the entire "book collection" system. Fiction and nonfiction, limited but there is inter-library. Ordering is common. Reference.... well that is an entire floor above that appears to have a vast collection due to it being part of Sumter College. Computers... here there are times there is waiting due to sharing with the college. I have learned that if I need computer access to go to one of the smaller libraries. There is always WIFI too... Video... there is a fair amount of videos (DVDs) to rent. I have rented some of the latest movies out with little or no waiting. (the except would be some of the Vampire and Potter movies, take a number in that case.) Audio... I was quite surprised to see a good collection. Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Chopin, Beethoven... (yes those who really know me, I do know who those people are!) I was hoping they would have some Irving Berlin, no such luck yet! Very happy with the collection (I think this is where my CD's ended up thanks to exhusband. The library collection is strikingly simular to mine that is missing.... hmmmm?) Staff is great. Can't say a bad work about them. There always seems to be something going on here... Genealogy groups, writing groups etc.... Just a heads up, avoid this place during voting season! Need I say more? Parking can be tricky, due to voting and the college. Students are suppose to park elsewhere... doesn't seem to happen though. Voting season, make sure you put boat bumpers on your vehicle to avoid damage from being hit. (Been hit here twice so far) happy reading! read more

I am at this library at least once a week for Ukulele club. Also the librarians are super helpful and friendly. How can anyone possibly complain about a place with free books and computers? You can take out books in your Kindle using the Overdrive app. There is also a Genealogy room full of resources and a group of volunteers that help out. read more

Even though this library has 64 computers, and attached to a college, this is a pitiful excuse of a library!!! I tried to get a library card there, today. The problems were unbelievable! First they wanted a piece of mail with my name on it, to prove I live there, no problem. Then, they insulted the hell out of me because then that piece of mail suddenly wasn't good enough!? Having recently bought a house in the area, and being a fan of ALL libraries, I was delighted to find Cooper Memorial Library. I am originally from Fairfax County, Virginia with wonderful access to many libraries including the Library of Congress. The big wonderful surprises for me at Cooper ML were the many events held there. I've NEVER experienced so many things to see and do at a library. I am enjoying so many new experiences and have become a member of Friends of the Library. There are many enjoyable volunteer opportunities there also. Thank you Cooper ML for all you do and offer. I went to the library with my wife, Tere Pizarro for early voting for the Presidential election in Florida! It was very organized, the people there has excellent Customer service and the Library is beautiful! It impressed me looking at the bricks on the entrance with people who died! I searched in the Internet why was that and who were those people but there was no information! read more

I do wish they had more book choices. We went here with our kids to use the computers. Quite a few of them were broken. Still we were able to use them without waiting. And this library is very clean and beautiful. Also quiet, which is important for a library. Overall a good place to go read books so worth checking out. read more

I have a kindle, a tablet, and a nook...and I'm still at the library at least once a week. To me there's just nothing that gives you the same feeling as a book in the hands and turning pages. Not only am I an avid reader, but I also listen to audio books in my car ALL the time, not just on trips. I started going to this library five years ago when we moved to Clermont. At that time I was pretty happy with it. A library is for the community, and it's necessary to provide opportunities to learn new things, take classes, have meetings, computer availability, etc., but first and foremost, a library should be about books. Every time I go it seems to me the library is trying to incorporate changes that diminish that concept. You go in the door now, it hardly even represents a library. I'm finding myself having to go to the Leesburg library more and more often. Yes, I know they will send anything I want to Cooper for pick up...but most of the time I really need to go thru the books themselves, and they also have a far superior audio book collection, which Cooper just doesn't provide. Please at least consider allowing the library to be a library by putting the majority of the books back on the ground floor so when you walk in the library, you're actually walking into a library. Have your new releases prominent, and maybe recommendations prominent, then actual shelves of books, both written and audio. Doing it that way, also allows families to peruse books for all of them, since the children's section is right there. Now you have to go to a different floor, which just doesn't work for families...or us older ones. Use the upstairs for classrooms, labs, computers, reference materials, etc. Right now, there's a few books scattered here and there, and you're having to go to different floors to find anything. It may make sense to a library director, but if you took a poll of your patrons, it probably doesn't to them...and if it's about being a community resource, maybe you should be listening to what your patrons have to say. I can promise you one thing...right now they feel they're losing their library! read more

Slight vent: (jk, huge vent!) Went to the library this morning to get some books for the kids. Checked to make sure our branch had them; which they did most of them. Checked the computer there at the library in the kids section (while my three kiddos are there too. All the books that we want say they are in the "Picture Book" section. Uh oh.... Started looking for the first book. Looking at last names, and the library doesn't have them alphabetized right. I'm looking and looking. Finally I go ask the librarian/volunteer/whatever she is/Tammy Swanson(!?!) lady to make sure I'm looking in the right area. She comes over to the section with me and asks what I'm looking for and I tell her. I ask her how they're organized and she tells me they're just alphabetized by the first letter of the authors last name. What??? How hard is it to alphabetize? She then goes on, after seeing my look of "Are you kidding me???" and tells me that they have such a large amount of books that it would take, like a day to organize the books. They just don't have the volunteer staff to do that. And this system works. I told her thank you for helping me, but I would never understand how they couldn't alphabetize the books. Grrrrrr...... I wanted to tell her that I would come in at night and alphabetize them. It might take a few hours, but what do they have their workers/volunteers do? You alphabetize the whole last name. Libraries have been doing it right for years. I would think Clermont would have higher standards. I have a higher standard for them. read more

I was delighted to find such a nice facility close by after moving here a few months ago. The staff is great and it's quick and easy to order something if they don't have it. A BIG SURPRISE, however, was finding out that it's closed on SUNDAY! I'm retired so that's just an inconvenience I can work around. But since this library is also shared by the adjacent college, I would think that being closed on Sunday could be a real issue. I wonder why this makes sense...maybe just dollars and cents...it would be nice to know. read more
