This review has nothing to do with the food. Had dinner at the bar. The food was great! It was a busy Friday night, all was well. However, the service was manageable until the blue-haired Monica graced us with her trashy presence. Long story short, after a short exchange over something as simple as large vs small cheese dip, she flipped us the finger. She was very rude & shouldn't be in a patron-facing role. Me and my girlfriend came here as out of towners and the service was amazing. Waiter was quick and very polite. We waited for our food for like 5 minutes after we ordered and it was amazing. Sweet Tea was brewed to perfection and was very good. Definitely would come back if in town. read more

My son moved to an apartment complex nearby, so we wanted to treat him to dinner. We all love Mexican cuisine. Trying this place was a no-brainer. Sadly, we should have gone somewhere else. One thing I did really enjoy was the frozen Mango Margarita, and the service was efficient and friendly, but that's where it ends. My son's carnitas tacos were bland, and he said the beans were "terrible." I had the Pollo Fundido which was okay. Nothing great. The rice was moist, at least. Honestly this is my boyfriend and I's go to Mexican restaurant. We absolutely love the food, the atmosphere, and the people who work here. Everyone is super friendly and I've never had a bad experience. For food I would recommend the three amigos. They don't list a few items on the regular menu(or that I've seen) and instead they are listed on the plastic standing menus on the table. I haven't been to Montee's I'm yearssss. I use to come here often with friends and order the same thing, burrito renello and margaritas. Our server was attentive and very sweet. I gave 4-stars rather than 5 because the margaritas didn't do justice. It's as if they forgot to add the tequila! I've had plenty margaritas here to know this time they were off they're game. After drinking water for 12 hours prior to my CT scan and being quite hungry, wife and I decided go to one out all time favorite restaurants...Monterrey. Wife and I used to go here when we dating in high school and college (delicious and cheap). As you sir down, you are given the standard chips and salsa. Order your drinks and get your food within 10 minutes. The chips were warm and the two types of salsa were delicious. My wife got the lunch size chicken chimichanga. The chimi was covered in lettuce, tomato and cheese. She killed it. I had combo #1, taco and enchilada. Delicious!!! Our waitress was awesome. Restaurant was clean! Perfect lunch today!!! read more

After having dinner there last night I won't be going to Monterrey's again. Service was not good. They were not that busy but my server and another staff member were sitting at a table most of the time I was there eating, on their phones, and showing affection like they were on a date. The waiter just took our order, never said hello, welcome, can I get you anything. Just "what do you want" and when he brought the food he just dropped it off and left without asking us if we needed anything or came and checked in on us. I watched him just drop our food off and go back to the girl and continued eating food and on the phone. I finally was just ready for the check but had to literally wave him down. I gave him my card and watched him at the POS coughing and sneezing all over the computer and my credit card. I am in the restaurant business and I understand it is hard to find good help but never saw a manager or anyone pushing the staff to get up and be attentive to their guests. Poor management I guess . Employees seem to think they can do whatever they want. They lost a loyal customer. read more

I honestly don't know why I continue to come to Monterrey when the food is sub par. I think it's just because it's close to my house and I like chips and salsa. Their salsa is watery and not freshly made. I honestly like the pre made salsa out of a can at the grocery store more than I like their version. I will say that I LOOOOOVE their spicy ranch dip that is served complimentary with the chips and salsa. It's spicy and oh so delicious! I always ask for refills. If you're looking for a good deal you should stop by during lunch time and take advantage of the lunch specials. I've tried several things on their menu and so far I haven't really been that impressed with anything other than the chicken tacos. Really bums me out because I just love Mexican food and the location is so convenient! I tried the Horchata margarita one night and it was cinnamon deliciousness! They do always have great service and their cheese dip is on point. I'll keep coming for the lunch specials to try out some new foods until I find a new favorite! read more

The horchata is so delicious! I wanted tea but opted for that because she said they were out. Glad they were out. I ordered the fajitas texanas and it was so succulent and fresh! This used to be one of our favorite Mexican joints in town, however, after several disappointing visits, we're done here. From the moment you enter, the greeter seems uninterested and from that point on, service, although attentive, is unmotivated and just not very friendly. I'm not going to spend much time on the food either, as it doesn't warrant the effort. It is, at best, average. The chips were slightly stale and the salsa just okay. The lunch burrito was large but lacked taste. The rice was dry and tasteless. The tacos were okay. Again, I had hoped that this place would return to what we remembered in years past, but the owners seem to be "over it", and quite frankly, I am too. Just experienced the worst case of racism. My family and I came in to an empty restaurant. We asked to be seated outside. Our server Isabel took our drink orders and bought us our drinks then quickly left before we could tell her that we were actually ready to order. She placed food orders of two other families (Caucasian and Hispanic) that came In after us. 20 minutes later she came and took our orders. 5 minutes later the other two families received their full meals. We finally spoke with Anthony and informed him of what happen and that we'd like to pay for our drinks. After we expressed our concerns there was no apologies from the server. Decently priced mediocre Mexican food. Service is very inattentive, as previous reviewers have said. No one asked if we wanted drink refills etc. I read all the warnings before going, but thought, hey whatever, we aren't picky people let's try it! I ordered the three amigos which, in theory, sounded like a tasty dish-- a combo of chicken, beef, and shrimp sautéed with bell peppers and onions. BUT... they smothered it in queso! Why?! I stumbled into this place after I freaked out on my husband when a tornado warning came over the radio. This restaurant is everything you expect from a legit, delicious, and cheap Mexican joint. I got a 4 dollar frozen margarita and hubby got a beer. The chips come with salsa and a delicious mysterious spicy/creamy sauce. I ordered the chicken con queso and it was a cheesy dream. My husband was all over my food and everything was so good. The service was fast and I had a great dinner here, I will be back very soon. Our meal and drinks were under 30 bucks. After a recent visit, I have to say Monterrey definitely did not live up to what I remember. I stopped in for lunch and found the service and food were both just ok. Service, very slow. After being seated I waited almost 20 minutes before receiving chips and salsa and water. As for the food, the chips and salsa are still good. Chips were fresh, hot and seasoned perfectly with salt. I ordered a combo meal: beef taco, chicken burrito and chicken quesadilla. The beef taco was cold and the meat was very bland, didn't bother finishing that one. The quesadilla and burrito had the same shredded chicken, which I still love. However the quesadilla was lacking the cheese and wasn't that hot, almost like it sat for a while. The burrito was by far my favorite, lots of chicken and cheese covered in a tasty red sauce. I think another Monterrey location is better and may stick with that one when I have my Mexican cravings. read more
