3.5/4 - If my review was based on the croissant alone, then an easy 5*!
Bakery is actually facing Batavia, a small side street off St. Clair. Street parking only.
Interior is standing room only! There is no seating. It's literally a counter where all the baked goods are displayed. There are some benches out in the front.
When I arrived after noon on Good Friday, there weren't many options left. Lotsa croissants which is what Monte is known for!
I got a canele, lemon madeleine, plain croissant, & a regular brewed coffee. Canele (~$3) was almost black (overdone) on the outside and it was quite hard, but exterior was soft tho with a lovely custardy flavour. Coffee was NOT good, folks. It tasted quite watery. Croissant was AMAZING!
I had the madeleine the day-after, but even with that, I've had better. Lemon glaze did have a nice, fresh flavour though. It was probably softer yesterday!
I'd definitely go again to try other items...AND of course, to get a croissant - maybe in another flavour! I'd probably skip the coffee and try an espresso based drink.
