I had heard rumours about this place going downhill but wanted to see for myself. So sad to find out that the rumours are true. Service was very good, the antojitos were as yummy as ever, but the ribs were disappointing to say the least. Mostly cartilage and sinew. Very little meat. My son had steak which he said was okay but not great. He had crispy onions on his plate which I usually love. This time they were completely coated in bbq powder. Service was great my server Kayla was great to deal with. The Classic Rubin was a bit salty but still very good the kaapow shrimp however was very tough and cold. Other then the shrimp the meal and service was great will defiantly be coming back. read more

Came here randomly before AND after a movie with my fiance and surprisingly enjoyed it! We always drive by Montana's but I don't think I have gone in the past 10 years or so. He was craving ribs so it worked out great. They make a great bloody mary (check out pics) in a cute little mason jar. My fiance had the large pork baby back ribs w/mashed potato, corn bread & side of corn. I had the harvest salad which was really yummy and a good portion. We split the skillet of mushrooms...these were YUMMY! They were button mushrooms and were sizzling for a while after they were brought to the table. Yum! So before the movie we just had drinks and on the bottom of the bill it said that if you fill out a survey online they will give you a free appetizer $9.99 or less when you spend $25+ on your next meal. So I completed that after our drinks and for dinner when we came after the movie used it for a free calamari appetizer! Great deal! You have to use it within 21 days from your visit. We got another one with the dinner receipt as well. If you're around a Montana's I would def suggest giving it a try, you may be surprised :) read more

We stopped here for a quick, delicious meal on our way to Banff and that is exactly what we received!! Our server (Brad) was fantastic and very personable! He put in our 3 year olds order when we ordered drinks. toddlers are impatient and most servers roll their eyes when we ask if we could order her meal early, he suggested it! He was quick and left us waiting for nothing. I had the fire-grilled tomato chicken. My husband had steak. Both we great!! We would highly recommend this establishment! read more

When we arrived we waited a little bit even though we have reservation but its fine. Someone assist us to our table , she told us to wait for our server. When the server came she asked us what to drink, and serve it to us that time we our ready to order when she gave us the drink but when she put the drink in the table she left right away without asking us if we're ready, we let that passed and then when they serve our food they gave us our order without the cajun onion and told us they run out,that is still acceptable but the fact that she is very disrespectful in bussing our table she is rude, she also just throw the candies in the table when we are going to pay, and when we already paid she asked for receipt in a rude tone and throw the receipt in our table! The positives- our waitress Amber was super friendly, and I liked being able to doodle on the tablecloth paper. Negatives- Cook forgot the veggies that came with my meal and they were still mostly raw like crunchy, and were sent out later. Tried the chicken and waffles, but everything was drowned in a maple gravy, and that's all I could taste. Corn bread was dry and flavourless, as was the jalapeno mac and cheese which had very little cheese at all. My girlfriend had the bacon mac and cheese, and it had huge chunks of cream cheese that hadn't melted still in it. Overall probably won't be back. Food was very dissapointing. read more

We came to Montanas on a Saturday evening. It has always been a family favorite but this visit changed that. The restaurant was packed with a 30 minute wait...which is expected on a Saturday night. When we were seated we were given a table right beside the door in an area that last time we were there was actually a waiting area. So we were surrounded by waiting guest and had the freezing cold draft from the opening doorblowing down our backs. The food took 50 minutes to arrive and we were less that impressed. Portions were small considering the big hike in prices. Quality wasn't what we have experienced before. The service was mediocre. We waited for our bills for a long time.. Always fairly happy with Montana's. Good menu variety, and consistent quality. Although, on this particular visit my steak was slightly undercooked (forgiveable as it was varying thickness) I am generally leaving happy. Service was good, despite what other reviews on here said. The pulled pork sandwich was pretty mediocre. And we were quite positive that our waiter, Brad, was drunk. He smelled of alcohol, his speech was barely intelligible, and he didn't respect personal space. When his bad joke didn't land, his attitude changed from overly (read: awkwardly) playful to serious and short with us. The nephew wanted to celebrate his birthday here as he had heard about the magical birthday "steer horn" hat one gets to wear while being serenaded by the staff. Being a steakhouse we knew that we would need to be careful due to my husband having a red meat allergy. (More on that later). My sister-in-law called that early afternoon to try to make a reservation - explaining it was her son's birthday etc., etc. They told her it was policy to accept reservations up until the day of so they could not accommodate her request. We went anyway- knowing there would wait - since this was the birthday wish. The hostesses - Cory and Lani - were very helpful and nice. They tried to accommodate us as quickly as possible, gave us menus to look over while we waited and were sure to get us seating that was comfortable for Gran. There was a 45 minute wait but were were seated within 30 so not bad for a Friday night. Our server "B" came over with a trainee and started making jokes - most not funny and kept calling my brother-in-law papa bear and my husband chief. Not sure if he was just showing off for the trainee but it was less than charming. When I told "B" I needed to tell him about my husband's allergies he was not very engaged as he was too busy doing his stand up routine. My husband asked him several questions to which he was abrupt. When my husband asked if he could check with the chef about food prep he said - "Well I could but the answer will be no and quite frankly the only thing we can do is put your meat in the microwave". Really? This is your "teachable moment" for your trainee? Not impressed and a rather lackadaisical treatment/attitude towards allergies. He was then very condescending to my husband - had we not been there for my nephew's birthday we would have left at that point. We tried to make the best of it but he continued to just be unprofessional which made my husband more upset and the table uncomfortable. I finally excused myself for the restroom and waited for "B" to come back out of the kitchen (as I did not want to make a scene or call him out in front of everyone) and very nicely and calmly told him that I felt he was being rude. That it is very difficult for folks with allergies to feel comfortable dining out and need certain assurances that they are being heard. He interrupted me and said he has been waiting tables for 26 years has his own allergies so he is "aware" and that the chef would just say no so there was no point in asking. (The question was if something could be prepared in a separate pan and not on the contaminated grill). I let "B" know that people just want to know they are being heard and instead of being argumentative with paying customers to at least fake it if he had to - walk away and come back and nicely say you cannot accommodate the request instead of being combative. Perception is everything. He could have cared less and when he came back he completely ignored my husband for the rest of the night (which I guess was better then being a jerk to him). He later asked everyone if they wanted refills on their soda- 4 people replied Coke and when he got to me I also let him know I was drinking Coke and "B" said - "Oh was yours diet"? Really again "B" - why not ask the other 4 if they were drinking diet? Thanks for pointing out the obvious...Whatever- it actually made me chuckle. So onto the food... My steak (yes I'm mean and eat steak when we go out) was cooked a perfect medium rare as were the other steaks at the table. The salads Mum and Gran got were huge and my husband's chicken fajitas were a large portion size, tasty and to his liking. The kids ordered from the Children's Menu and they were a good portion size as well. ***Bonus- if you join the Montana's Kids Birthday Club - the kids meal is free for your special day and you get a birthday dessert of ice cream and a cookie. We finished the rest of our meal without incident. The birthday hat came out and everyone sang to the delight and slight embarrassment of my nephew- seeing him smile and laugh was worth the inept service. In addition, "B" brought out a free ice cream for our other nephew which was very thoughtful until "B" said something to him about being pretty - twice!!! Just plain weird, awkward and I am sure what every 11 year old boy wants to hear. So 3 stars because the food was fine (similar to a Texas Roadhouse feel), our nephew had fun and the hostesses were great. Ordered delivery. Ordered the veggie burger. What I received was the veggie burger without goat cheese and without mushroom. Pretty disappointing considering the goat cheese is what makes the burger. Also, I've had the veggie burger from here multiple times and never before has it had green peppers. The green peppers, especially without the goat cheese, made the meal way too bitter. read more

I will start this by saying I haven't eaten at a "Montana's" in literally years because of the horrible experiences I'd had there in the past.. So we came to Red Deer and thought, maybe we'd give it another try ... Well upon entering .. I can't lie, I was a bit concerned! The restaurant was packed with families & screaming kids .. Not looking good to start... We were seated immediately in amongst the throngs of children .. But once I could block all that out, in our little corner booth, I started to look @ the huge menu of options! The waitress was efficient & friendly. We decided to order the appetizer platter & an order of "Kapow Shrimp" to share. The food delivery was slow & we were starving.. Once it finally arrived, the appetizer platter we'd ordered was huge! Great value for only 16.99$! The majority of the items in the platter were good. The deep fried pickles &the bbq bites (Pork -tender & succulent) were really yummy! The spinach dip was delish but presentation was a bit rough. The potato skins & fries I could've done without. The fries were just plain old fries & the potato skins were left with too much potato. The Kapow shrimp was a deep fried shrimp covered in Chili Thai sauce, not real original but ok & a large portion. Over all it was ok ... Would I rush back again after all these years? Probably not but I won't avoid it like the plague that I thought it was!! read more

just had supper here with my daughter. We split the southwestern potato skins and there alright and there was enough to eat with just that. They were hot and reasonably tasty. I had the Canadian burger and it was alright but could have hotter the lettuce and tomato were fresh juicy. My daughter had the chicken tacos and declared that they were quite good. it took quite awhile for the main course to arrive about 40 minutes but the server was quite excellent about keeping our drinks full and checking on us. read more

When ever we go to Red Deer we always try to eat @ Montana's the ribs and beans are always good, but the TREAT for me is the DEEP FRIED CHEESECAKE! it is the most unique cheesecake wrapped in a soft tortilla and fried (not geasy) and drizzled with chocolate or caramel sauce ( I always get both) and whipped cream. It is a large portion, I always share it with my husband. I have tried this at many different Montana's location and no one does it as good as the Red Deer location. read more

Having eaten at many Montana's in other cities I can say the food here was par for the course. The service wasn't though. Our waiter thought himself terribly witty and entertaining but I thought he was a bore. Not only did he talk over me to others at the table, he did so literally - leaning far over me as if I was a piece of furniture to speak with others. At one point he leaned into my fork and got it caught in his shirt. That earned a vague "oh sorry" before he carried on chatting, he never even offered to get me a clean fork. He topped off this performance by asking us to pay the bill before we could order dessert so he could get his tip before going home to entertain guests at his house. I trust they had a better experience with his hospitality skills than I did. read more

The servings of fries (any kind) and spinach dip (including pita bread) are much smaller than they were a couple months ago and are never crispy anymore. The overall experience was alright, however, I did have a major issue with our food. ' My boyfriend took us here for a date night. We went later at night, hoping that the kitchen would be less busy and we wouldn't end up waiting hours for our food. We ordered the BBQ platter to start, and that was delicous :) the deep fried pickles were so good! The potato skins were a little bigger than is usual for an appetizer, but if that was my only complaint for that, then it was fantastic! However, when we received our entrees (the Portobello Mushroom Steak) they left much to be desired. The menu said we should be receiving fried onions, beans our choice of a side and coleslaw. My plate had my sides and fried onions, but my boyfriends had only the sides he ordered. My steak was cooked perfectly (though I like a rare steak, and have always trusted steakhouses to cook it without contamination) my boyfriends "Medium" steak however was almost as rare as mine was, if not more so! The overall presentation left MUCH to be desired. That isn't the worst of it though! After beginning our meal, and after the discovery of the severely under cooked steak, my boyfriend then discovered a very large chunk of steel wool in his mashed potatoes! When we brought it up to the server, he simply took the shard of metal back to the kitchen and left the contaminated plate on our table. There was a manager at our table within a few minutes, and he too expected us to continue to eat off the plate with the metal shards in it!! Needless to say we were unimpressed. They did supply us with a new dish (a sad looking steak that was missing the portobello mushrooms we had ordered), and took it of our bill, but the serious lack of concern for the contaminated plate will mean that i will probably not be returning to this location. My husband and I dropped by Red Deer Montana's for a meal before heading home to Calgary this past Saturday evening. We were very disappointed, we usually love Montana's and frequent often the Calgary locations,but here at the Red Deer location we had a bad experience. We were greeted and sat at a booth but after that it was 20 minutes of being ignored so we called over a waitress and I even went up to the front desk to ask what was going on and to tell them we hadn't been seen to yet. The staff were quite rude and non apologetic and said they would get someone to see us soon, it was about 30 minutes before we had to call over another waitress and she said she would take over our table. Once we secured this girl as our waitress, she was very nice and friendly, but we felt very annoyed after being ignored for so long. The food was nice but the service and being ignored made us sour on the experience. read more

As a mid afternoon meal my friend and I decided to stop by Montana's having a craving for one of their appetizers. Upon entering the establishment it was fairly empty and seemed like the last of the lunch rush was leaving-there were only two other tables in the dining room besides ourselves, and what looked like to be three servers. The server came relatively fast and took our drink orders however upon seeing us seemed to be less than enthusiastic to be serving us. She brought our drinks and took our order, however that was the last time we saw her before paying. Another server delivered our appetizer and did the check on the food. For an appetizer we had the antijitos, which this time seeing them had decreased in size, but were still good. I had the "spicy" chicken quesadilla which was boring, bland, with no spice like stated. It was basically chicken with very watery guacamole and salsa. Sub par. My friend had the sirloin, medium rare. It arrived medium well, however when the server did the check, she cut me off and left before allowing me to inform her. We ate the food regardless. The majority of the time we were without refill, and had to stop the passing servers to get a refill. At this point there was only one other table in the restaurant. Service was absolutely horrible. I will NEVER return to Montana's in Red Deer. We have gone there before and always had sub par service, but this is the last straw. As a server, I can't imagine hiring servers who do such a horrible job. Clearly management needs to do a house cleaning of staff. read more

so i love montana's but we had the worst service i have ever experienced. We had a waiter, his name was brad and he was aweful. He first took a while to come greet us and when he did come he came by and said hi to us and then left our table again. then he came back and finally got our drink orders. when the drinks came back (ceasers) they tasted like watery dirt! it was discusting. I also ordered a long island ice tea and it tasted like pure alcohol! he gave us attitude when we sent our drinks back and took the drinks back and came back and pratically slammed them on the table. he was taking our order and i asked for salt and pepper wings with my ribs and he refused to just get them to make plain wings! i asked if he could and he said i had no choice but to have a sauce on it. my sister in law asked for well cooked steak and he asked her "do you live in alberta? Im going to get your dad's email and email him!" and said she isnt a proper albertian. As he left we had our baby nephew in the chair and he grabbed our baby nephew by the arm. and then left the table. his jokes were also aweful! he was not funny at all. when we realized that he wasnt funny he notice right away and then was super rude to us from that point on. he took forever to bring us our apps that we ordered and he sent someone else to bring them out. they were so bad. they were sloppy and there was barely any calemari. it took us prob 45 minutes to get our entrees after that and it still wasnt great. my ribs were good but they wernt hot and my wings were discusting. they had white specs on them and they were cold. he didnt come by to check on us until we were done our meal and then asked us how we are paying. didnt recommend dessert or anything. there was no manager around at all. we never saw a manager on the floor. we left our table with our plates still on it and we left money enough for the check and thats it. if we go back we will def ask never to be served by brad and i suggest you do as well. save your self the stress of a terrible shameful dinner. read more
