This is a great place to just grab dinner and gather with friends. It's got all your typical bar type food, ribs, chicken, salads, burgers and steaks. Their menu has something to for everyone. I ordered the bbq baby back ribs. It was tasty and fall off the bone. Good flavor and sauce. Typical sides are available. Fries, salads, potatoes. Burgers are juicy and flavorful. My wife and I enjoyed a late Sunday afternoon lunch. The decor is definitely western. The service was excellent. My wife had an apple chicken salad and I had a chicken burrito bowl. The servings were so large that we couldn't finish them. If I am ever in Winnipeg again I'll stop here. read more

It was a Wednesday afternoon and took out my partner and daughter , I ordered the half rack of ribs, which came with all the back skin and fatty , hardly any meat. the fish was overcooked, the brisket sandwich was the only good thing the kapow shrimp cold. The worst ribs I had ever had, I did get credited for the ribs but I am not sure I am ever going back. There was next to no one in the place and yet we stood at the door at least 5 minutes before the Mgr came out to seat us. Had a friend tell me the other day that the wings at Montana's were absolutely delicious. This was not the case for us. Ordered 4 different flavours , two of the dry wings were supposed to be salt and pepper and the other Cajun. They both had zero flavour and to much breading. The other two flavours, honey garlic and buffalo at least had flavour but equally gross. Way too much breading to hide the minimal amount of meat on the wings. Cost 70 dollars with a tip. Not to happy, just like the table beside us as he sent his food back twice and still wasn't satisfied. Sorry won't be back there anytime soon! read more

That was the best fish and chips. I've eaten in a long time. The fish was so tasty didn't taste greasy at all, and there was no batter on the fish just excellent seasoning and I believe bread crumbs. my compliments to the chef, well done! read more

First walked in and the manager, I could only assume has like a main character syndrome. We walk in for reservation and start talking to the greater well my mom does. This lady with main character syndrome acts like we interrupted their conversation when she walked up as we walked in to talk to the greeter to say we had a reservation. The creator even looked flabbergasted by the situation. We shook it off and sat down. Every TV was playing women's basketball like can we get real sports? They can't even hit their own "my"bounds. The food was pretty good at the start for the all you can eat ribfest but has the refills kept coming they kept getting more and more burnt the first one that came at the very beginning was fall off the bone and then from then on, they kept getting more and moregriddle and crusty almost like it been sitting for a few days. I've been reheated now back to the TVs, they had the NHRA on a real sport unlike whatever you call women's basketball and it was only on one TV and the TV was like broken. It's blue. I don't know who is running this place but by the looks of all the gay looking guys and the manager, I can only assume with main character syndrome it must be a bunch of liberals specially when a fat black lady came in with their daughters and they're like three year-old was running around the restaurant. This place is gone to shit. They don't even serve beef ribs anymore as a rack as far as I'm concerned, this place is done. read more

+.5 for service Definitely one of the more energetic Montana's I've been to. All the employees here were upbeat and it was all happy faces everywhere I saw. It was definitely reflected in the service, which was excellent throughout. It wasn't too busy for dinner on a Sunday, although it was at around 8pm. The menu is the same as other Montana's I've been to, and the prices were definitely reasonable. I had the smoky bacon mac and cheese, which was decent for $14.99, although a bit salty. Portions were perfect for dinner as I didn't need to take anything home. The bacon was crispy, but chewy at the same time, which I like. Montana's isn't bad for a BBQ/steakhouse chain. Of course there are better options, but at least you know what to expect here. read more

Was really excited to try Montanas after seeing their commercials for the latest steak specials. Holygeez it was not a great experience - other than the staff who were really friendly. We waited almost an hour to be seated. Almost 30 minutes or more for our mains. Which arrived before our drinks did. Our drinks had been forgotten by our waitress at the bar so by the time we got them, beer was flatter than a prairie skyline. Why she didnt think to re-pour them for us is beyond me. Moving onto our mains. My boyfriend had the ribs and wings. Ribs were dry. Everything on the plate was lukewarm except the fries which were hot but soggy. I had the 7oz steak and grilled garlic shrimp. It was alright but nothing spectacular. Coleslaw was forgotten. With so many other options on Regent, i really had high hopes that our dining experience would be a great one based on the high competition in the area. We were party of 8 seated at 6pm. 15 min to get orders taken, and a 45min wait for food to begin arriving. MY food (chipotle burger) arrived lukewarm, and "well done". They had refused to do medium rare, but stated they could do medium. The patty was dry and rubbery, with the bun saturated in grease and sauce. Completely I edible and repulsive. The wait staff were run off their feet, and other people in our party were missing items from their orders... salad dressing, sauces, etc. The duty manager was nogt responsive (making excuses) and offered to remake my order. I wasn't ready to wait another 45min., seeing as the rest of the party was almost finished eating. Topping it off it took over 15min for us to get our bill. After this experience I can't see myself risking bringing friends or family back to any of the other Montanas in Winnipeg... too bad. PS. Chain-wise, Montana's has a new menu (according to their TV commercials) and has taken a turn for the worse. The new menu is horrid. Gone are the days of four kinds of ribs and the "all you can eat" Tuesday nights. Menu choices in that area show only two types of ribs now, and from what I can see, the actual product has been cheapened down, but more on this later. Pasta choices don't fare any better -- now there are only three offerings, two of which contain chicken, and the remainder is goat cheese. In the last month, I visited this particular location twice. Once by my own choice (after which I swore I'd never come back) and just recently because my sister-in-law booked a family dinner here (and even against my warning not to do so). On my first visit, I noted that the menu had changed and that choices were severly limited from what was offered previously. Nevertheless, I opted for their Buffalo Chicken Strips, which came with four heat intensities, the hottest being called "Suicide". This also came with fries and cole slaw. When it arrived, visually it was nothing special. Three bedraggled looking chicken strips that looked as though they had been microwaved, soggy-looking in appearance as if they had been congealed in grease. The serving of fries was skimpy, compared to the size of the plate the whole thing came on, and they, likewise, looked a tad underdone. However, the cole slaw looked nice and fresh, and tasted as if it had just been made. Nonetheless, the fresh cole slaw was not enough to save this woefully sad excuse of a meal. The fries tasted as underdone as they looked and were nowhere near crispy, and the chicken strips were so mild that I thought if this was "Suicide", I wondered what the mild tasted like. "Suicide" indeed. Recommendation: The Dairy Queen version of the same meal is much much better and is only about two-thirds the price -- get it there instead. On that visit, my SO had a chicken pasta dish, and it arrived plunked smack-dab right in the middle of a square plate way too big for the pitiful small amount of food it contained. She said it tasted passable, but was nothing to write home about. Her son ordered the Nachos with spicy beef added on, and it looked much more generous size-wise. He said it was "okay" but that he had had better elsewhere. In any event, we all agreed that Montana's had slid badly and wasn't worth returning there until they went back to the menu the way it used to be. Despite that, I was compelled to pay a second visit there this past Saturday night (14.11.09) for a family dinner. There were fifteen of us, and we were obliged to spend an hour in the bar waiting for them to get us a table together, as they unfortunately do not take reservations. At this juncture, I will have to say that the waiting and serving staff is impeccable in their service, and were extremely pleasant, and it's not their fault that they are forced to serve dreck that impersonates real food. Not wishing to give them a second chance to botch something as simple as chicken strips a second time, I instead opted for the Nachos, since they looked worthwhile on my previous visit. If anything, I viewed them as being the best of a bad lot. My SO decided on the Prime Rib sandwich, and her son again went for the Nachos. Sitting across from me, my nephew had a chicken alfredo and my father-in-law ordered ribs. His food arrived first. His "ribs" consisted of one bone, somewhat meaty, but reminded me of a bone you'd give to a dog. Last I checked, a word with an "S" on the end meant it was a plural of the root word! The whole thing was smothered in a sauce that tasted so good, and I suspect that this was the only thing that saved it, because he referred to it as "tasty", but was still disappointed about the serving size. For the price of it (~ $23.00), it didn't look that good a deal to me. My nephew's chicken alfredo arrived at the same time, and it was the same kind of situation my SO had on our last visit -- too little food, too much plate. He ate it, but wasn't all that enthused, it appeared. My SO's Prime Rib Sandwich arrived at the same time as the two plates of Nachos I and her son had ordered. My observation of her plate was that it appeared to be nothing more than a French Dip, with au jus for dipping, and she said that that's exactly what it was. Prime Rib? Doubtful. Now, Nachos shouldn't be a hard thing to make. I mean, all you have to do is dump some tortilla chips on a plate, cover with chopped tomatoes, onions, black olives and jalapeno peppers, some shredded monterey jack cheese and nuke the whole thing for a minute and a half or so. After going to Montana's tonight, I have to agree with the other reviews on here. It's not as good as it was. Menu offers more things, but everything seems overpriced. I hadn't been there in a while but I remember the ribs and wings were always good. I tried the beef brisket sandwich and it was crap. Dry, re-heated bread and the brisket was tough and chewy. Brisket needs to be done right in order to be tender and this was definitely not tender. My friend had the ribs and wings and the ribs were as good as I remember, but the wings were overcooked and unappealing. If you have to go, stick with the tried and true thing that they do well. Ribs. Ugh, the cornbread was also dry and had a weird stale taste. Not sure if it's all Montana's or just this one, but I was unimpressed. read more

The new host they hired was very kind to my wife and I. She seated us in a wonder booth with a clean table and clear menus. As I was enjoying my food I noticed that she was working very hard finding something productive to do even though there were no people to seat at the time. Montanas used to be great, with good hearty food and friendly staff. The staff is still pretty good, but they've changed their menu several times in the last year and a half. The latest iteration has a lot of more expensive items, and just plain weird choices. Certainly there are great things on there (ie best ribs in the city) but there are way too many basic items at a unreasonably high price. It has been quite a dissappointment to see such a good restaurant become what it has. Better places to eat, with much better value. read more

This place used to have great food and good service. The service seems to be consistent, but with increasing costs for businesses, this is not a place worth eating. It seems their menu changes every few months, so by the time you go back, your favourite menu item is gone. Too many changes masquerading as great food.
