I had an appointment for a retouch, highlight and haircut at 10:15 am. I had requested a student who had been on the floor for a while with experience. My services were not complete until after 4:00 pm. The student said she preferred nails and pedicures. I wasn't offered a water, about 2:00 pm I asked for a bottle of water. Never offered a magazine or potty break or a lunch break. It was a cold day, the instructor told the student to put me under the dryer, I asked to be put under the dryer, the student didn't listen, no dryer. The student hadn't retouched or given a highlight prior, and hadn't given a hair cut to a client it appeared either. The six hours at montage were horrible. My highlights are brassy, and I specifically noted to the student and the instructor, no red! I will not recommend nor will I return. read more

I have been frequenting Montage for about 3 years now. I love supporting the students and of course getting a good deal on beauty treatments. I will never complain about the students; as customers, we know they are in training, hence the great deals and lengthy time in the chair (and they deserve larger tips than the old bitties leave for them!). I've grown very fond of many of the students and enjoy the energy in the studio. However, I had a rotten experience there this week that left me sad to have to say goodbye to Montage for good. I came in with a very specific look I was going for and my student was confident she could pull it off (and I believe if she alone worked on my hair, it might have turned out). I know hair dye can be tricky, but long story short, I sat in the chair for over 15 hours over the course of 3 days, color correcting what the teacher had guided my student to do-which every time turned out way off-base. I kept confidence in this teacher who seemed to cheerfully keep suggesting these off-base solutions. In the end I paid $150 (including generous tip) to walk out with wet hair that was the opposite of what I had asked for, feeling like an emotional jerk. I loathe sending back my food at restaurants as much as I do complaining about a bad job at the salon. I was not asking, nor expecting anything else "free," but a simple "I am sorry this didn't turn out the way you expected, there is nothing more we can do," would have done the trick. Instead I got a dodgy excuse and a $10 off my next haircut coupon. I can honestly say I am shocked at the way these instructors handled this situation. I know it's just hair but honesty, truthfulness and integrity go a long way. read more

I had a trim and full highlights at the Academy on a weekend. Overall, I had a great experience. The woman who did my highlights had only been at the Academy for just over a month (which did initially make me nervous), however she did an excellent job. Everyone working there was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I learned a lot about the highlighting process and the things some other stylists have done to my hair that is not in my best interest (in an attempt to speed up the process and move on to the next client). The woman who cut my hair had been at the Academy for 13 months. She was genuinely interested in hair and about making sure my cut was exactly as I wanted. The best part was that for all of this, the bill came to $42.50! This is way more than half what it would cost at any other salon. The only negative about the Academy (in addition to taking the risk your service will not turn out as you planned), is that the process takes a bit longer. For my total service, the time was almost four hours as opposed to the two hours it would normally take. read more

When getting salon & spa services done at an Academy, one must consider that it's sometimes "the luck of the draw", although I've had good luck at the Longs Peak Academy. It's been a year or so since I've done anything here, and the main things I did were manicures, pedicures, and a facial or two. Great prices, of course, and satisfactory results every time. Through insider friends I knew which students to ask for, and I think this is important. I have not had anything done with my hair here because I've gone to the same hairstylist for years and will not stray. These are just my experiences, but I would recommend this place if you're reasonably closeby. read more

Called to see if they could do a walk in for my 9 year old daughter. The girl who answered the phone had every reason not to do it. "We have a class at 2pm." I will be there at 11am. "We all go to lunch at 12". Yeah, I work as a service electrician, you move your lunch around to help the customer. You know, to make money. I came here because I wanted a budget-friendly hairstyle change and I wasn't too worried about the outcome, as I could have fixed it myself if necessary. A haircut is only $10! They picked a student for me, I didn't ask any further about any of them. The girl I got was very nice, if a little customer-service-awkward. She asked lots of questions to make sure I got what I wanted, and even though I gave her vague answers (I kind of prefer hairstylists do their own thing, they know better than I do after all) it turned out great! There are instructors all over if you're feeling uncomfortable. My stylist ended up bringing her instructor over to show her how to frame my face and do my bangs. Overall, I loved the cut. A few things--as mentioned in other reviews, it does take a bit longer than normal. For a shampoo, cut, dry, and style, it was about an hour. Also--don't go if you're put off by ambience. It is a school, after all. One more tip: you can pay by card, but they only take cash tips. read more

I want to thank EVERYONE that was working on Saturday January 21st! You saved my daughter's 8th birthday party. We had made an appointment somewhere else for mini mani pedis and updos. They were not there on the day they said they would be. I had four crying little girls, very upset because they weren't going to get the party I had told them they would get. So I did what I should have done in the first place and called Montage and they got me in immediately. They took care of the girls like they were princesses and were wonderful to me. Thank you to Nikki, Lisa, Stephanie, April, Melissa, Julia, Cierra, and the instructor CJ! I know it was difficult to get all of my girls in and to do all that needed to be done, but you didn't act like it was difficult you were amazing!!! read more

I had a cut here a few weeks ago. I just moved from the East coast and my beloved hair stylist, so I needed to find a new one in Longmont. The only unfortunate thing is that this student was about to graduate so I wont be able to see her again. However, speaking of the process: she consulted her teacher before the cut, and 2 times during the cut. She asked me throughout the cut what my preferences were and respected my decisions. It took 45 minutes. She was extremely friendly and professional. Overall, my experience was positive. I got in that morning an hour after I called. I will note that when you type this in on GPS it doesn't take you to the proper location. So I had to call while walking around trying to find it. The woman said that it happens all time. My note would be to put that on your website or notify your client when they make an appointment. There wasn't a ton of style or fluff in the salon, but it is a beauty academy and a place for education. The price was 10 dollars plus tip and you can't do better than that. Will go back and try out the color service! read more

This is a wonderful school run by amazing people. My daughter had the good fortune of attending for a few months but her time there was cut short due to circumstances and needed to come back to Boston where she will continue at another school but I really wish she could have stayed in Colorado and finished there. She absolutely loved it and as a result of the start she got there I know she will do well back home at her new school. I will be sure to have her write a review herself but I can just tell you as a parent - this is a great place to send your child if he or she is looking for a great education in Cosmetology. read more

I came here for a manicure and a pedicure. Full disclosure, my wife was the one doing the mani-pedi, so although she did a wonderful job and I totally recommend her, I'll keep the review to the salon. The products they provide were very nice, especially the lavender paraffin dip (both feet AND hands) and the almond scented lotion. The salon itself has a nice feel to it. I've been to other cosmetology schools that felt uniform and clinical, but the atmosphere here was more personable. The pedicure chair wasn't the best comfort wise, but also not the worst I've sat in. Overall I was very happy with the service and even though I was married to a student everyone treated me professionally and I felt like they cared about me enjoying my time there. I would definitely recommend coming here. read more

I've been going to beauty schools to have my hair done for over 20 years. What I've learned to have good results is you must know and explain well what you'd like to have done. I would not advise experimenting or asking a student what they think how you should have your hair styled. A student is just that, a student--they lack experience. With that being said, I've been coming to Montage once a month for a year now since I moved to Erie. My hair has always come out looking great! I like the convenient hours and reasonable prices Montage offers. Best of all are the friendly staff and students! One more tip, I suggest that you allow yourself more time when going to a beauty school to have your hair done. Hope my post is of some help to those of you curious about making an appointment at Montage. I highly recommend it and think you'll be glad you did! read more

I loved my last experience at Montage Academy. The girls and teachers are so friendly and they are easy to talk to. They listened to what I wanted to do with my hair, and made it happened. The girls ask for help if they are unsure. The teachers are always available. I would recommend using the Academy. read more

I had the worst experience of my life with one of their students, Cierra Orona, I highly do NOT recommend her and if you are a salon I highly recommend NOT hiring her. She is extremely rude and unprofessional and even resorted to calling me names when I was not satisfied with the work that she did. I showed her multiple photos of EXACTLY how I wanted my hair done and she said she could do it no problem. After the blow dry I looked in the mirror and the color job was horrific. .. my bottom half was ashy blonde and brown and the top half was golden orangey blonde. So she said she would add some more color in to fix it.. In the end she made it even worse and then complained to me that she didnt want to have to fix my hair all day and she "wasnt going to jump when I say jump". those were her exact words to me. She also told me my "expectations were too high" and that she's "not a people pleaser". News flash, you work in a people pleasing industry. If you dont like it, and can't be professional toward your clients... then this line of work is definitely NOT for you. Then when I tried to contact Cierra to have her fix the mistake like we discussed, she said I was harassing her, when all I was asking was when we could get this taken care of. Her response was "Im busy, leave me alone." Having her as a hair stylist was a nightmare to say the least. read more

School is dirty dirty dirty. Look at their license online. It's on probation due to sanitation. Owner doesn't care "what we lack in looks we make up for in good attitudes" everyone looked miserable. Would not reccomend for students or clients. Students spent more time on phones than doing anything else. read more

Students are usually reflecting their teachers at a school. That is not the case in this school. The students I had contact with for services were awesome! The instructors however were not. They were rude at every turn. What was even worse was the owner Debbie Nielson. She topped it off with her rudeness! She acts like a money hungry woman and that is all she cares about. My guess is that she doesn't even know about this type of business and this is her "hobby". I would not recommend this place to anyone. There are lots of other spas that want to cater to their clients. read more

I want to warn people. This place is substandard! I've been there twice now and the first time I got a pedicure. The woman did a horrible job! I expect someone to really scrub to exfoliate my heels and she barely worked, only a couple of strokes. Completely, utterly lazy. The polish job was sloppy. The second time I came, I got bolder and I got a haircut. I never should have returned. First of all, I called first to inquire whether they had senior level students. I did this because I have been to the Aveda beauty school in Denver and you can request a senior student there. But the receptionist at Long's Peak got an attitude with me for asking. She really did get kind of snippy with me and at first wouldn't even answer my question. Then when I repeated it, she said defensively (and in a nasty tone) "Everyone here is the same level." Apparently they were all about to graduate. I didn't feel that reassured. I asked for a short razor cut. The woman they gave me to clearly did not know how to use the tool. She couldn't get off a smooth stroke 100% of the time -- about 25% of her strokes stopped short in the middle, and then she pulled the rest of the way painfully up through my hair. She wasn't getting good, skillful texturizing. The last thing I did before she started was to show her a picture of what I wanted. I already had long fringe on the sides and back. I told her I wanted long fringe like the picture of the shag cut I was showing her. I ended up coming out of there with all the fringe completely gone, and a helmet cut, more like a bob than a shag. I was clearly so unhappy that they didn't charge me. All I had to do was show them the picture of the shag I had asked for at the front desk. "No charge." NEVER GO HERE!!!!!! NEVER!!!! read more

Good part: you get full service with full detail into your service. Relaxing. If the students don't meet your expectations, the instructor will "fix" your hair. Bad part: the stylists are students, they took 6 hours to color my hair, then it didn't "look" evenly colored so was asked to come back the following day and was charged for a "touch-up". It was $70 then additional $30. Could have had a "real" professional for that price. Still looked bad so had to color it myself. Total waste of money. Overall, it's a hit or miss with the stylist you get. Some times they do a good job. But whatever you do, DO NOT PURCHASE package deals (i.e. 5 haircut deals, 4 facials, etc.) because if you don't finish using the series in 6 months, they will delete it from your account. I bought a microderm package for $180 and didn't use all and before I knew it, they had deleted the rest of whatever I didn't use. Their excuse was that "if I didn't use it by then, I probably never will." So, don't get ripped off. read more
