I really wanted to check out that cruise. Though we weren't able to, we decided to wander around downtown for a little while to see what was around. We started following a path, and then we saw a sign for 'The Boathouse,' so we followed that path down to the banks of the Loch Ness where this place was situated. Literally no other customers were there when we arrived (though some came while we were eating), and I don't know what I was expecting... Traditional Scottish food, I guess. Sorry, but that close to the Loch Ness that's what I thought would be around. Instead, we were surprised to find a Mediterranean menu. Pleasantly surprised, I might say. After asking if we could eat outside, we sat down at a wooden picnic table with a pint of local Inverness beer. PROS: -I LOVE that it's set a little ways from the road, and though I believe that was a parking lot buried around back maybe, we walked through a damp trail to get here, and I loved that. -Food was REALLY good. -The view is stunning! CONS: None! THE VERDICT: Everything about this place was wonderful, from the way it's set away from the hubbub of the street, to the stunning view of the Loch Ness, and the delicious food. The food here is realllly good, too. I can't remember exactly what I got, but it included some Jasmine rice, naan, and a warm, tomato and chicken entree in a delicious, almost scaldingly hot broth. It was absolutely perfect, especially with the chilling temperatures and the wind bringing the chill factor down a bit more. You get almost a 180 unimpeded view (or almost unimpeded) of the lake, too, which really makes eating here a 5 star experience. We had a leisurely, peaceful experience eating deliciously hot food, sipping wonderfully chilled beer, and just having the fortune of each other's company. I was here in July of 2017, and I STILL remember this place fondly.

Luckily, the view is gorgeous and it felt perfectly safe even at night. When we arrived, Mcleods was filled with locals and everyone was so gosh darn friendly! The wait after ordering was no more than 15 minutes, then they handed us a giant bag and we realized we may have made a mistake....we each got our own order of fish and chips and the servings are gigantic! I mean, I'm not complaining as it was delicious, but we certainly could have shared. We also got a battered pizza (yeah, that's right, fried pizza!). Even after the walk back to our lodging, everything was still nice and hot. There is no seating inside so this is strictly a take-out joint, and the only parking available is on the street, though the restaurant was quite busy on our visit and the street was not too crowded. Prices are incredible and if we had had a longer stay, I am sure we would have frequented Mcleods more than once. If I lived in Inverness it would be a go to spot for sure!

I got the Special of the day - Grilled Sea Bass. This was an amazing alternative to the damn fish and chips we see everywhere. The sea bass was moist and tender, and it was on a bed of roasted vegetables, which we desperately craved after many days of just fried food. We also got the Turkish salad which was a very refreshing mix of cucumber, dill, tomato and onions. Though it was a bit too liquidy, the overall taste was great bc of its tanginess and freshness. We also got the BBQ ribs which also had great flavor. Solid, quick service.

Re: Delicious Sticky Toffee Pudding…read more To the Greek couple we met in Inverness, with great apologies, we suffered confusion of which delicious desserts we had at various restaurants around the city, inadvertently directing you towards a place that did not serve sticky toffee pudding. We should have pointed you towards MacGregor's as having the most delicious sticky toffee pudding, now verified after having several others that did not perfectly balance sweet with salt as that of the sticky toffee pudding at MacGregor's. If the pub is full, please find your way to the end of the bar and the small door to the left that takes you to the cosy table service room where Jess and other wait staff, including little Nala, will take the best care of you. We also highly recommend the steak & ale pie and fish & chips, should you require something a bit more than the sticky toffee pudding. Again, apologies, and we are certain you will have a fantastic experience at MacGregor's!
