We arrived in Inverness, Scotland after a long flight from San Francisco. It's been a long time since we've been here, and I wanted to share a simple Scottish meal with Louise, so of course looked for a local fish and chips takeaway, and did we find one... I can honestly say that Mcleod's is even better than the fish and chips I remember.
first, he puts the name of the potatoes he's, and the fishing vessel who caught the haddock! the potatoes are amazing, thick cut, very tasty, I can say that they are nothing that I've had before... Not greasy, flavorful, just a hint of crunch on the edges. The kind of chips that I don't mind eating when they are cold!
second, the haddock was huge and fresh. I would have preferred it a second or two earlier out of the fryer, but the crust more than made up for it. It was so crispy yet not at all overloaded. You could hold the filet by the end, and the fish just stayed in the crust!
third, we had an order of "queen" scallops, and very generous portion of lightly battered (different batter) scallops that were so hot in the middle, and with that distinctive scallops taste from the sea.
foiurth, we had a battered and deep fried haggis.. more like a sausage than a giant haggis, but it was dark and meaty and instead of sheep's paunch, covered with that delectable crust. Had all the ingredients to end the meal on a high Scottish note!
I am so happy that we found McCleod's. and hope to come back again. read more
