We got a table here and the service person spilled a whole juice bottle and I was completely soaked. I asked if we could purchase another bottle with a little discount. It took her pretty long to come back to say they couldn't do a discount. Even though I don't review much, I usually get some kind of comoensation if the establishment messes up. Kind of disappointing that I get soaked in liquid and nothing happens. ... I mean about $1000 for 2 bottles and we get spilled on? Celebrated my 21st at Monroe and it was amazing! We got there at 8 pm and there was no line but already really lively. I was here Friday night and it was fun!! This was my first time at Monroe and I thought this was a sit down lounge with fancy cocktails. First of all, expect a line. I did not realize how long we had to wait in line to get in. Probably won't matter if you have a table but we got there around 9:20 and we got in at 11. It wasn't pleasant to wait in line, one of the guys who works there was very rude to us (almost wanted to leave and go somewhere else). There were so many people in line drinking, I'm talking about cans of white claw, beer, and a bottle of wine behind us. Tired of waiting in line, I went to get a tiny cocktail drink from a liquor store and was going to drink it while I wait in line. As soon as I opened my drink, a man started yelling at me "MA'AM YOU CAN'T DRINK ALCOHOL IN MY LINE" and I didn't realize he was yelling at me until he came up to me very close and yelled again as he confiscated the drink ( half left at this point) and poured it on the sidewalk. I was very confused as to why he didn't yell at any of the other people in the same line (mostly men) and I don't want to specify race, but I felt slightly discriminated. This person can raise his voice and be rude to a tiny lady (I'm fairly small) but can not do the same to specific guys, how interesting! If that was the rule, you should not single out who you think you can yell at and you should enforce the rule regardless of gender/race. If you tell me that you don't see all the other bottles and cans on the ground, in people's hands, that's absolutely ridiculous. I don't think any business should treat their customers differently based on how they look. Yeah dealing with drunk people has it's challenges but asking people nicely can also get you the same result sometimes. I don't like being treated differently and I should have left then and there. However, I was with my friends and I did not want to ruin the night for us. We continued to wait for another 30-40 minutes after that uncomfortable incident. After we got in, the night got better. I think the best part was the music. I love dancing and music was very hype. I might be back for the music despite the terrible attitude from that one guy. Also, it was suuuper hard to order drinks as they only have 2-3 bartenders when there are about 20-30 people trying to order drinks and you really have to wave, smile, do everything you can to order a drink. If you can get the bartender's attention at this place, you have made it! Drinks were delicious and overall not being able to order drinks as much saved me some money. read more

We came on Friday night, which is when they host their happy hour from 5-10, with drinks starting at $1 up go $6. We arrived at 9 when drinks were $5 and the DJ was playing all sorts of current hits to a pretty packed crowd. Drinks are SMALL. $20 for a small drink served in a rocks glass.. the staff was super rude when it was time for us to move out of our section :( gave us no warning, we still had 30 minutes but they started unnecessarily picking up our purses and rushing us out! things were falling out of our bags as they picked them up.. we were more than happy to leave but can we at least grab our own stuff before you start throwing it everywhere?! Back when this place was Dragon Bar, I had my 25th bday here. They dramatically renovated it when they rebranded to Monroe. Unfortunately, it's such a classy venue but nothing else matches the club. The crowd is 21-25 and mostly kids who can't really dance and most in the bottle service areas were just sitting together looking at their phones. It was such a weird sight. The DJ last night had to have been the worst club DJ I've ever hear in a club ever. They mixed 80's or early 90's with other songs that had no business being mixed together like they played a gangster Tu Pac song which was great and then mixed it with Britney's Hit Me Baby and totally killed the vibe. The DJ cut off most songs; do they even know how to mix songs together like a real DJ? So the venue is gorgeous but nothing else really matches with the vibe of the club. This really should be turned into a 30+ lounge. It was almost offensive so have such a bad dj and kids bopping around such a pretty venue. My friend and I couldn't get into it and closed our tab and went to a more mature 30-something lounge. read more

I have had great experiences before at Monroe, but tonight was disappointing to say the least. My friend was not even close to being belligerent, but was stopped from being let into the bar. When I tried to have a civil conversation as to why he was stamped while in line to get into the bar and then not let in, the bouncers were rude and did not take the time to address my concerns. My question was why would you stamp someone to let them in and then not let them in at the door. If he was that drunk, they had time to assess that while we were in line and did not have to stamp him. When I tried to have a respectful conversation with the bouncers, they kept talking over me and were condescending. They were rude and aggressive for no reason, and even at one point said to me "who are you for me to have this conversation with you" which was uncalled for. I understand if my friend was aggressive or belligerently drunk for this attitude, but he was not. In the process of trying to physically remove my friend, they also hit one of my friends in her face. This behavior is uncalled for and needs to be reprimanded. Additionally, once my friend was kicked out, they let in other people that were DRUNKER and WHITER cut the line. We also noticed this while in line when they tried to pull two of my white friends out of the main line to cut to the front. If these bouncers are not fired, I will not be returning to Monroe. This behavior was more than disrespectful and flat out homophobic, racist, and violent. read more

I've only ever felt compelled to write reviews for club security twice--once for Monroe, and once for the lounge next door--coincidentally both standout in terms of customer experience. On six visits to Monroe, I've seen Mike from the security team manage the door with a rare level of professionalism and empathy, creating a smooth and welcoming atmosphere. As someone who leads CX teams in tech, I can say that kind of balance is extremely hard to achieve. Bernardo, also with security, was attentive and thoughtful throughout the visits where he was present. Behind the bar, John delivered excellent service that elevated the entire night for me and my business partners each visit, remembering names and drink preferences with rare fluency--hard to achieve. I'm extremely selective about the places I conduct business and host outings, and can state with absolute conviction that Monroe reaches the bar. I will continue inviting business partners and friends of out of town here for a good night. This team makes tough work look easy--highly recommend. read more

I'm not sure if I caught the owner on a bad day, but he was extremely rude to not only one, but to everyone within my party, which included my family. It was a little embarrassing because I specifically brought my family there thinking it would be fun, but the owner made it into a horrific experience. He was being rude even before we went in and started drinking; so there was no drunken annoyances on our part. I also noticed that he was extremely rude to one of his own bouncers, telling him to be faster with checking people in, with a condescending tone. Upon leaving, I politely just asked him why he was being so rude to my family and he then stated, verbatim, "You guys should go and party at Club Temple - that's your kind of crowd and where you belong." Which we happily did because the music is so much better at temple anyways. Besides the owner, we purchase a table at club Monroe. They placed us in the middle of all the commotion and we didn't even get a table, but a standing side table. The music was OK. Music that you would find on "now that's what I call music hits" playlist. Other than that, the people were nice within the building; but it was extremely overpacked where you couldn't even dance. Needless to say, you can turn anytime into a good time with the people surrounding you, however, the owner really went out of his way to make our experience into one I definitely have to review about. read more

Cool venue, I could see a lot of socials/events hosted here! I came for a party and it was a great space for it. All off the bartenders were nice, fast, and made good drinks! There was a little counter area by the dance floor that was an ideal spot for food. I liked all the different seating available. Staff were on top of cleaning up. I was surpriseed when they didn't race to clean up the glass when a glass cup broke on the floor but I guess people were in the way. There's a big bar when you first walk in and there's a second one by the dance floor about half the size. Good decor and different lighting all around too! read more

Really nice venue, came for a work holiday party and left impressed. It was completely rented out for work so I cant speak to how it is when its open up to everyone. The venue is nice, lots of cush seating, large bar, big floor space for dancing, dj set up, clean bathrooms, and even a small patio section to catch some air. For the event I was at there was an open bar and all the bartenders were great. Fast and friendly with orders, no issues and the drinks were solid. Compared to a lot of spots in the city this place was definitely on the nicer side of places Ive been to and would gladly go back. The Best VIP customer service! I was looking around all of San Francisco for the best spot to host my friend's Bachelor Party and luckily found Monroe. Payam was excellent and quick as a coordinator. The staff assigned to our VIP table were Evora and Mercedes. They were amazing! Outgoing personalities and quick service, they even helped keep space between our table and those dancing on the main floor. Finally, the DJ brought great tunes on a Friday night during 'Battle of the Decades' Now, keep this in mind... We were a group of mostly 30 somethings and the crowd was YOUNG in comparison to us. And the main floor was absolutely packed with dancers. So be prepared for a lively and crowded main dance floor. Like, barely room to move, crowded. And the occasional young people antics. I got two tables here for my birthday and had fun, but choosing Monroe's that night for the venue def made things worse. First of all, club was absolutely packed and felt like 100 degrees. Even at tables it felt like a sauna. We all just put ice in our dresses but it was still so hot!! DJ that night was horrible. Just played the worst songs that weren't danceable at all, when I tried to go request a song he was also really rude and just put his hand in my face and shooed me before I could talk. The table next to us was empty and our table was overflowing (we got enough bottles to meet minimum for like 5 tables) and security wouldn't let us overflow to empty table adjacent to ours. Also the two tables that we did have were supposed to be adjacent, but there was a wall between them which made it hard for guests to move btw them and mingle (especially since dance floor was so packed you can't rly leave table area) Pros: payam is friendly and easy to coordinate with over email, and the bottle prices are the most reasonable I've seen in the city. The actual venue was fine too. I wouldn't recommend going here though unless you can rent out the whole club and choose the DJ, or know you're going on a night when it's not gonna be packed read more

Your luck of the draw at this place depends on who you are with and which gender. To sum it all up, if you're a girl/whole group of girls, you should have no problems, security guards are nicer and it's free to get in. If you are a man, especially if you didn't pay for some VIP table or in a group with at least one guy, you will be paying the cover fee. Despite most of the security acting like entitled dicks, don't let that discourage you from coming. Once you get in, the aesthetic is quite lovely; the owner did an excellent job of giving it that luxurious touch, and you might be squished like a sardine, depending on the night. Still, the DJ is always a hit, in my opinion, and not too many creeps cause most of the people are college students or in their 20s. Lastly, I would review the prices but I've never had to buy drinks. Also, if you are capable, do the bottle girls a favor and move out of the way when they try to get through.
