We were looking for something not too far from our hotel so I pulled up nearby restaurants in YELP and when I came across MONOPOLI and read all the beautiful reviews this was it!!!!!!! We had one of the most beautiful dining experiences EVER !!!!! I read all the nice comments about the server Earthy and so when we walked in we asked if Earthy was there and sure enough there she was and from that point on she whisked us away on a culinary adventure we were never to forget. I have to say , Earthy is one of the sweetest person I have ever met !!! She is such a special Lady and if you ever have the opportunity to be showered with her kindness and culinary wisdom you will be one lucky and VERY HAPPY person. We started off our meal with one of Angelo's fabulously made pizzas with Parma and topped off with Arugula. We ordered one of the specials of the day which was so delicious we couldn't believe how lucky we were to experience it, pappardelle with white sauce, veal and zucchini - had a side of squash blossoms !!! YUM !!! Next course was Sea Bass cooked in wood oven - oh so very delicious!! Then Earthy brought us some calamari after we told her how much we loved it !!! After that we were so stuffed but then she also brought homemade chips with fresh rosemary - all that was topped off with a special made sorbet with currant liqueur !!! WOW!!!!! Once again my fellow yelping companions didn't steer me wrong. As my first stop for some Italian food, this place was delicious. As I was worried about my lack of Italian abilities but with the help of google translate & pointing I was ready. However the lady who sat us spoke some English & the menu was in both English & Italian, whoop whoop WINNING. The pizza (thin crust) was great & fresh. As you walk into this establishment, there's a gentleman kneading the bread & behind him was a wood fire oven, Perfecto!! So if you're in the area, I highly recommend this place. read more

Both on google and Yelp it said the place was open. We walked about 10 minutes from our hotel and were welcomed by a completely shut down place. All the windows were closed by blinds, there was no light whatsoever. We nearly walked past it. Fantastic service! When we first arrived in Milan we were very unclear about where to eat. We found this place with high reviews and decided to try it out. The raviolis were amazing! The pizzas come in a perfect thin crispy crust under a layer of high quality ingredients. My favorite is four cheese (quattro formaggi), which is an explosion of flavor especially with the blue cheese. The waitress recommended the mushroom and olive pizza to my wife, which seemed to be a match made in heaven. The affogato dessert was also delicious. Was in Milan for a conference and our Hotel was away from the centre and in the Fiera neighborhood. Found a quiet street with several restaurants and ended up here after checking Yelp. What a find! Their strength is in their pizza so we had try a Margherita Pizza. It was a typical Naples pizza in Milan and was fantastic. We also had their "beef with mushrooms" and it was a beautiful piece large dish made in the wood-fired ovens. Didn't have room for dessert but those looks tempting. WOW!! We came here for lunch and had the Pizza it was very good. But we ended up back here for dinner because the place we planned to go to was closed -I'm glad they were. Between the 4 of us we tried various dishes. They were all amazing. The waitress (Earthy) was great and helped us choose our selections. The entire staff was delightful and we even had an opportunity to meet the owner who was cleaning tables near the end of the evening. Overall a great experience. We had high expectations due to the good number of Yelp reviews. What a disappointment. To start off, we ordered two glasses of red wine which tasted terrible. Tasted as though the bottles were left open for days. We were surprised as all of the other places we ordered glasses of wine from were great. After ordering our dinner, we waited, waited and waited. We noticed a group of people who came in 15 minutes after we did were being served before we were. Finally after being tired of waiting and not seeing our waitress for 20 minutes my wife got up and went to ask where our food was. Our waitress forgot about the food. Two weeks in Italy and this was our favorite place to eat. Great food, friendly staff, and a wonderful neighborhood atmosphere.

After being in Milan for several days and determined to find that wonderful thin crust pizza like we enjoyed several years ago in Naples, using Yelp we decided on Monopoli. Our first try was on a saturday night about 9:30 and we were told it was at least a one hour wait. To me this is not a bad thing, it means they are doing something right, however we were hungry and decided to try another place on the same street which turned out quite nice actually. A couple nights later on Monday we again showed up after checking the website to make sure they were open and sure enough when we arrived things were locked up tight!, turned out it was some catholic holiday I guess. Finally the next night we walked in about 8:30 and were seated right away. Our waitress (Earthi) spoke perfect english and was very friendly. When we started to order she said no no, you need to try this instead. Normally I dont like this and want to make my own choices but this was just a salad so we went along with her and were very pleased. We ended up with a fresh artichoke and parmesan salad and the other was made from a vegetable we had never heard of and I cannot remember the exact name now. It was a winter vegetable that required elaborate preperation as explained by Earthi. It was sliced thin and came with a anchovi dressing that was wonderful. we also had fried sweet peppers as an appetizer and I mixed this with the salad and with a squeeze of lemon and salt and pepper it was really good. She brought out the raw vegetable to show us and it looked like a cross between a cabbage and bok choy. Finally we had two pizza's (one would have been enough) and they lived up to the billing, excellent thin crust and sauce was beautiful, perfect toppings. we met the owner Franco and learned that this family run restaurant is over 40 years old and all the employees are part of the extended family. Overall a really satisfying dining experience. With plenty of beer and wine the bill was under 50 euros. read more
