I cannot even express how FANTASTIC they are! I went to SIX Hardware & Locksmith places looking to make a copy of those high-security Medeco keys- all epic fails. On a whim, I came across monKeys doing a google search and decided to make the trek into the city. I wish I'd gone to them first because they did an absolutely FANTASTIC job duplicating the key and it worked FLAWLESSLY when I tried it on my lock at home. I wasn't sure if they were still open and copying keys (finding that is next to impossible in NYC) but after getting someone on the phone I learned they were so I got down there before heading to a lunchtime event I'd signed up for. I figured I'd need to drop them off and come back but he got it done in a flash. It was pricer than when I got copies in my neighborhood but that guy only takes cash and the new front door key is bigger so I thought the other guy might charge more for it so it'd be best to use a credit card and get it done pronto to avoid another trip in an already busy day. I was there to copy all of my apartment keys. The man tried to way over charge me, until my fiance on the phone was shocked with the price and asked where i was getting the keys copied. Then it was a more reasonable (ish) price, IF the keys would have worked. None of the keys worked. Very frustrating. I now need to get the keys copied somewhere else. Most importantly, unlike other places I called and who sent locksmiths over to my place for an estimate, I was not given some outrageous and absurd estimate to change a lock that takes mere minutes to install. Yikes. So far I wasted my time attempting to go this locksmith twice in two days. Google business listing says 24 hours, I show up at 4:30 the first day, business is locked down. I show up the second day at 4:45 locked down. I'm going to hazard a guess and say this business likely didn't survive covid and they are closed permanently, as I'm not sure how you could keep a business model afloat that closes at 4:00 PM or earlier. This is also an epidemic that's happening across NYC, it seems business owners are far too inept to update their hours on google business. It is a very simple step and can save customers so much time. I will update this if I find the business is actually open at some point. read more

After going to my favorite big locksmith for keys today. I found they no longer had the equipment or access (physisicaly) to the blanks to cut my keys. I didn't use the service of monKeys locksmith, but did have an interaction with their business. I called them up and explained my situation (I was locked out). I wanted to know how much it would roughly cost to fix the entire problem, and the guy said over the phone he couldn't give me a quote until he saw the problem, and would have to send someone over. I then asked him what if the problem couldn't be fixed, or if I decide not use their service after getting an official price quote, and the man on the phone told me that to come down to do a house call, even just to look at the problem, would cost $125 dollars. My house is only a 10 minute drive from this place, or a 27 minute walk, so I'm not sure how that distance comes out to a $125 price tag, and for no work done either. This places seems like a huge rip, and I'm glad I didn't utilize their services. read more

These guys don't "monkey" around! (I bet they've never heard THAT before.) I needed 5 keys made, and I was out of here in no more than 5 minutes. At $2.50 each, and at this kind of speediness of service, you can't go wrong. One of the keys was a brolic-looking one, and was $4 to make, but the guy even offered to copy it into a different size to maintain the pricing. Rip off artists. Find another locksmith. Our coop management company called them to change the lock on my mailbox. I spoke to Jeff on the phone to schedule the appointment Thursday. He refused to quote me a price or give me any indication of cost but said he had a deal with the management company. We schedule an appointment for Monday 9:30 am. On Monday, I call at 9:56am and he clearly forgot about me. Then he says he'll have a guy over in 30 minutes. Around 10:30 the guy shows up, spends 4 minutes swapping out the lock and yesterday, I get a bill for $136. I call Jeff and tell him it's an unreasonable price and that it's sketchy he wouldn't quote me a price initially when I asked. He yells at me that he doesn't deal with customers and he doesn't care if I feel cheated by his business. If you decide to use him, good luck. Better off taking your business anywhere else. read more

Is it weird if I say this locksmith shop is a gem? I was sent here on Tuesday afternoon to get copies made of some office keys. Prior to this afternoon I've always had a mild hatred of locksmith shops in general, perhaps because I've only ever found myself at them after losing keys or finding myself locked out of the house half naked. Monkeys has changed my perspective though, to the point where I was actually smiling as I left the tiny store. Now who finds happiness when copying keys? The man (the owner?) who made the keys was friendly, outgoing, and honest. He even made me LOL at one point, which is rare for me at 4pm on a work day. He was super speedy too, as in he cranked out 7 keys in just a few minutes. These plus a squiggly keychain cost me $36. Now I don't actually know how much key copies cost at other places so I can't do a price comparison, but the service was stellar so I'm giving this 5 stars! read more

I bought 2 electronic, push button locks for my apartment. This morning the guy from Abbey Locksmith came over and gave me a price of $1,000.00 to install them. You heard right...One-Thousand-Dollars. And that's just for the installation. I already had bought the locks. So a friend tells me to call MonKeys Locksmith....which I did. The guy comes over in an hour, installs both locks, and charges me $180. Let The Buyer Beware. read more
