Deriek and his crew did an awesome job on my yard. I originally contacted MonkeyMan Tree Care to see if I can get a quote on trimming a very tall avocado tree, a very overgrown orange tree, and remove a pesky guava tree. After sending him a few photos and talking to Deriek on the phone I could tell that this was going to be a good experience. He was very knowledgeable both about yard care in general, as well as the many different plants that I had in my yard. I did get a couple of other quotes that were both higher and at the same time no where near on the professional level that Deriek was talking about. We immediately scheduled Deriek, and although it had been raining for a couple of days straight, and now gusting winds, Deriek and his crew showed up and stayed into the darkness of night to finish the job. Only, when he showed up, and saw how much help we needed, he offered to do an entire yard cleanup including trimming of spruce and pine trees as well as cleanup of insects infecting my gardenias for a little more. I'm so happy that we decided to entrust MonkeyMan with our entire yard. I wish I took some before and after pictures to share here, but I actually have a yard that I can maintain myself now. Cleanup was impeccable, and Deriek even smoothed everything over with the neighbors to make sure that they weren't inconveniencing them with their work. So awesome. I highly recommend MonkeyMan Tree Care. They do a great job at a very fair price and are so pleasant to work with. I will definitely be calling Deriek again to maintain my yard. read more

Deriek just finished a large job at my house. My wife and I didn't have a clue how to start such a big job of tackling this huge mango tree over our roof. I contacted Deriek, he came right away and explained in great detail what he would do and how he would do it. He's got a lot of years of experience and it clearly showed. Deriek gave us an estimate of how much the mango tree would cost. It was very reasonable. He even cut down and pruned some other trees and bushes that weren't quoted in the original estimate. He's a stand up guy. I typically don't give out my trust easily but Deriek certainly earned it. He always kept me in the loop in terms of how the job was coming along. His crew was hard working, respectful, and responsible. I will recommend his services to my family, friends, and church. read more

Dereik and crew did a great job and I was not disappointed. They go above and beyond to make you happy. He was very responsive, respectful and a pleasure to work with! Gave a fair quote and proceeded to cut down my 6 palm trees immediately there after .. Hauled away all the rubbish and left the area spotless .. professional, courteous, and meticulous .. Highly recommend him and his team. read more

**UPDATE to my previous review** After speaking to other customers, I decided on Derek. His price was higher, but others told me it's worth it. After discussing what I wanted done and a completion date given. I trust it will be done. After a few days late I was told job was completed. When I checked, what was discussed, was not done. I reminded him what he confirmed prior. He than requested payment because more needs to be done. His reasons were more trunks to dump, need to drive further to recyclers, truck needs work. If you use him,you need to be hands on. Nice guy and good crew, but not reliable and forgetful on commitments. read more

The Monkey Man and his crew did an outstanding job on pruning 2 massive lychee trees that were very dead thus making them a danger for anyone who stood underneath them. He is very knowledgeable about trees and plants and how to do things efficiently and safely. His price was amazing considering the amount of work it took! I highly recommend The Monkey Man for anyone who needs to tackle a situation like mine. THANK YOU Monkey Man and crew! read more

Deriek and his crew recently chopped down our giant mango tree which was hanging over our house along with some of the neighbors yards. He was very professional with communicating with the neighbors to let them know what was going on throughout the process. He and his crew worked very hard and very fast to get this job done. On top of that Deriek always kept me inform with the day to day process and plans. He always made sure the yard and garage was cleaned thoroughly at the end of each day. I would highly recommend using his services if you're looking for a hardworking and honest arborist. read more

Derek ("The" Monkey Man) cut down and removed two 20ft Majestic Palm trees from our back yard. Derek and his two helpers were fast and got both trees cut and removed in about an hour. I highly recommend him. We called several other tree service companies and they charged outrageous prices. Derek price was reasonable. You just need to be patient cuz his truck may be his office and he doesn't answer his cell phone when he is up in a tree. We had an appointment that he was a no show for and he never called to give us his status. Several calls and texts received no response. But, he will get back to you, it just may not be as quick as you may want. It's kinda like a restaurant, the delivery of your food may be slow but once delivered, you'll be very happy. Just reach out to him via Yelp and say what you want, attach a photo, and he will provide an estimate. Highly recommended! read more

Had Deriek and the crew removed THE big Ugly tree and small baby trees in our lot. They did an awesome job removing everything we asked for. Would recommend Deriek and The Monkey Man Tree Care for all your tree needs!! Call Deriek at 808-256-6061 if you have any questions. read more

We hired MonkeyMan Tree Care because we had to have a large mango tree trimmed due to the fact that the branches were becoming a problem for the refuse pickup trucks that have to drive next to them. Deriek Quismorio, the owner and the man famously known as MonkeyMan, was very personable and professional. He gave us a reasonable rate for the 50% reduction of the tree which had become overgrown. We loved the mangoes that it bore but it had become quite a burden in the leaves that it would produce and the fruits that would fall on the streets creating a hazard for pedestrians and motorists alike. Rotting mangoes were a common thing as we could not keep up with the falling mangoes. A driver actually stopped by to request mangoes which was funny because nobody seems to care for the mangoes until the tree is being cut. I was happy to oblige but if you are that person, please do not park in someone else's garage as most residents are offended when you park in their garage without permission. Their garage is part of their personal domain. Please respect their right to their property. Going back to MonkeyMan, he brought along his crew and his wood chipper and came fully prepared for the job. They had the tree trimmed to a manageable size in no time. I watched in awe as he climbed the tree and made a quick job of the branches. The branches were all removed quickly and they swept up the mess that comes with cutting trees and their foliage. I started to help pick up the branches and he told me to leave the job to them. He even picked up the branches that were piled by another tree that we were going to cut up and place in the green city and county recycle bin. He saved me the trouble of disposing those branches. That was really nice of him. For those who are planning to get their tree trimmed, it costs a lot more to have the entire tree removed. We opted to have the drastic reduction instead of the outright removal because of that. But a tree trimming can be an option if you are handy with tree cutting accoutrements and a ladder, you can maintain it afterwards. A visit to your neighborhood Home Depot will show you simple things like pole saws and even pole chainsaws for those unafraid of motor revving chain saw. For those with a tall tree where pole saws are not long enough, a ladder will solve the problem. Just be sure to learn learn safety procedures when it comes to tree trimming. Leave the large tree cutting to the professionals. I would recommend MonkeyMan for that. read more

MonkeyMan did a great job on our three trees! Deriek responded to our quote inquiry promptly and his quote was very reasonable. He showed us samples of his work along the way. When they came to our house they were very professional and even went above and beyond, doing more than we asked for, which we really appreciated. Deriek is super knowledgeable and passionate about trees! Thanks MonkeyMan! read more

I called and texted the owner, he gave us a meeting time, but he never showed up! What a waste of time. No text no call no nothing to notify us that they are not coming over. We waited for nothing. Deriek and his crew spent about a week working on our trees in Manoa recently. The things that I noticed most: Professional communication and excellent customer service. The enthusiasm of the crew(s) cheering the successes of a difficult maneuver. Their aerobatic and gymnastic skills During the heavy tree surgery days, they left our property clean and organized. Deep thought about the character and personality of the trees and their relationship to the land, sky, and neighborhood... ARTISTRY! read more

My experience working with the company was an excellent one. I knew my yards condition was pretty bad. And that it would be a challenging task. But as soon as they arrived Derrick assessed the job and determined how to attack. They immediately went to work. It was an all day job. I was more than satisfied with the work they did and my yard no longer looks like a jungle. Before packing up for the day they made to to tidy up. I would definitely recommend them no matter how big or small the job. read more

Deriek was the right person I'd been looking for to take care of my biggest headache, a 20 foot kamani tree(nut tree) in my front garden tangled with electric wire in the street. After only a couple of hours he was hung in the tree, the tree had dramatically changed into beautiful shape and got smaller as I wanted it to be. Not only authentic as a professional, he was so nice, friendly and looked joyful during his work and it was really pleasant to watch a person enjoying his job. Authentic, speedy, cleanest finish, reasonable price.. as good as it gets. Highly highly recommended! read more

Derek is the man. Reasonable and knowledgeable. He cut my mango tree such that the fruit would be easily accessible next season, fertilized and gave me advice on tree care going forward. He also is doing the environment a lot of good promoting more natural biodynamic practices and he also replaces a plant for each one he takes out of a customers property. Also great that he donates compost and wood to UH for agriculture and Hawaiian studies programs. read more

I can't thank Deriek and his team enough for clearing the overgrown koa and two bouganvillia trees on the slope behind my father's home in Aiea. They also safely trimmed back a huge mango tree that was hanging over into my father's property. The job was completed in a day and a half and the price was reasonable and fair. All of the cuttings were chipped on site and removed. I was so impressed that they left the work area cleaner than before arrived. Deriek and his crew were awesome! These guys removed a giant clump of banana trees from a cramped space in my yard. It was probably 15 or so trees ranging from stumps to full grown trees. They gave me a more than fair quote, dug everything up and hauled it all away. Two weeks later and not a single keiki!! I'll never plant banana trees again, but if you planted them and years later regret planting them, let these guys remove them. read more

Deriek and team are just awesome. I had them come to remove a hibiscus bush hedge and they took it out, roots and all, very clean. Deriek was hired to remove 6 palm trees (including grinding out the stumps) and trim one additional tree. He informed me prior to coming out that his grinder was broken and he would have to schedule for another time to come out. I told him that was not an issue and I would text him after my family from out of town returned home to schedule another appointment. I texted Deriek on November 5th and 16th to schedule the stump grinding with no response. I texted him again on the 18th and told him we were going to go with another company if he was unable to schedule a time to come back. The afternoon of the 19th he texted me back and told me he would get me on the calendar sometime between 27DEC-1JAN. I texted him on November 24th, 26th and 27th asking which date he was coming back out. I have still not heard back from him. He was a hard worker and did a lot of additional trimming on other trees when he was out here the first time. I would only recommend if you have a very large window to get your job done. read more

We were very pleased with the tree cutting services of Deriek and his team at MonkeyMan Tree Care. We needed to remove a huge 60 foot pine tree from the bottom of our slope. They performed the tree removal in a very professional, neat, safe manner. We were truly impressed with the skill and craftsmanship of the job. My mom had various types of trees that needed to be trimmed/treated/shaped and 1 tree removed. We contacted the MonkeyMan to get an estimate on these challenging tasks. The trees were old and had sentimental value and we wanted someone that understood exactly what needed to be completed. Derek came by to look and quoted us a reasonable price. He listened to our concerns and requests, and then explained exactly what had to be done in the best interest of my mom's trees and budget. He's a great person, direct, extremely reasonable, knowledgeable and experienced. Derek and his team were highly motivated, hard working and respectable. They did a great job in completing all of the tasks and cleaning up afterwards. My mom was thankful, amazed and happy with the job they did. I would highly recommend the MonkeyMan and his crew for any tree job. read more

We had a large mango tree in Manoa which was right next to our roof. We asked for the part near the roof to be cut away since it a walkway for rats to come into the house. Derick and his crew were TERRIFIC! He came over for a price quote immediately. We were able to schedule the project promptly. We had our 55 year old mango tree cut down due to the roots cracking our garage floor. There was some sentimental value to this tree since my Dad planted it when we first moved to this location. Derick saved some stumps for me to have a woodworker make something special from the tree. In addition, they cleaned up and keep everything orderly. In addition, they did some extra cutting of some other trees as a bonus! I would definitely hire Monkey Man Tree care again. I would refer them to family and friends! MonkeyMan did a fantastic job cutting and thinning my papa's mango tree. My papa is a very meticulous man; his yard is truly his prized possession and only HE tendered to it for over 45 years. He is now at an age where he can not safely trim his own mango tree, so from Los Angeles, I reviewed Yelp and called 4 of the highest rated companies on the island. MonkeyMan was very pleasant and seemed extremely knowledgeable over the phone. He was also very responsive. I'm very critical, but I got it from my Papa, who is the master of perfection. I called my papa before writing this review and he is more than pleased with MonkeyMan's service. My papa said the MonkeyMan knows what he's doing! He will be using MonkeyMan going forward for routine maintenance on his mango tree. Reasonably priced and the service was impeccable. My papa was thrilled that they didn't let the thick tree branches fall to the ground as they cut it, instead, they hoisted it down so nothing was to be damaged below, and they hauled away the enormous amount of debris. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND MONKEYMAN! Thank you MonkeyMan!! read more

Derick and his crew did an amazing job trimming our very overgrown tree. The tree was located on the side of a hill which required much planning, dexterity and a boat load of brute strength. Derick suggested he put in steps and a rail as the grade leading down to the tree was pretty steep. This was created for the safety of his crew as well as an aid for us as we can now easily access the area. Awesome guys very helpful respectful and caring. Derick knows his stuff he truly is "da tree dr" The clean up after the job was terrific all leaves dirt etc was raked up washed down etc. thank you Derick and da boyz Highly recommend the Monkey Man Tree CareMahalo read more

This review is about the interactions with the owner, Deriek, and a few workers of this company. I have no review based on their work . A young college student was parked in a area that was coned off by the company. At the time the particular spot wasn't coned off but the company insists it was and with no witness of the student moving the cones, simply assumed he did and took further unprofessional action. Upon returning to his car, the car was surrounded with cones and pieces of wood that would prevent him from moving unless he ran it all over. The student was approached by one of the workers with a hostile demeanor and foul language. The workers would not accept the student's side of the story. The same worker even threatened to fight the student when the student calmly said he didn't want to fight about this. To make this review worse, the owner of the company was there as well. He threatened damage to property of the student by saying they were going to smash his windows and put wood chips in it and put it in YouTube. I spoke with the owner of the company on the phone about this situation and he laughed it off saying it was all a joke. He denied the threats and the foul language. He was even shouting at me over the phone. His justification for his company's unprofessionalism is that the state hired the company to get rid of the trees of a condemned house. (I didn't realize that gave the right to do and say what you want to people.) This is the most unprofessional company I have ever had the misfortune to come across. I suppose it's not surprising the way the situation was handled based on my conversation with the owner. He just kept trying to tell me how the car was parked in their work site and ignoring the point of my phone call which was to discuss HOW the situation was handled. There was no sign of remorse or an apology. Apparently everyday citizens and people around do not matter to this company; only paying customers. read more
