Monkey & Dog Books is such a cute bookstore and a must if you love exploring independent bookstores! This bookstore is located in the Fort Worth area and has a nice selection of books for all ages. I actually think their children section is much larger compared to other stores, which I think is perfect for families. Personally I prefer fantasy/fiction books and that specific selection was much smaller compared to other stores, however they had some of the most popular titles. Besides books, they have a nice selection of stationary items, puzzles and other games. They definitely had some very unique finds I hadn't seen anywhere else. Last but not least, they do have a rewards program and for every $100 you spend you get credit to your next purchase which I thought was pretty nice and a good incentive to support local businesses. If you live in the area I would highly recommend joining their program. read more

I love Monkey and Dog Books! It is such a warm and welcoming shop. I could easily spend an hour or two exploring the shelves. They have a nice selection of books for both kids and adults. I left with a book for myself, a book for a friend's new baby, and some greeting cards. They also have a nice selection of bookish gifts. The best part to me was discovering their shop dog snoozing on the couch! I was delighted to sit on the couch to review my purchases next to what I thought was a furry pillow, but actually turned out to be the sweetest dog. I'll be back to Monkey and Dog Books again and again. read more

Absolutely loved this location!! Such a great bookstore. They didn't have a lot of the books I wanted but they will order them for you if you want. I'm not from the area so it wasn't a great option for me. They do have a great kid selection and I love that they had local Arthur books. The staff were very friendly and gave great suggestions. Prices seem to be similar to other bookstores. Would definitely recommend this location. There is also lots of parking. read more

Stumbled across the cutest bookstore when getting coffee nearby. They had a wide selection of books along with cute merchandise and stationeries. They also had a $1 clearance section in the back for cards and we just had to grab a few. The clerk who checked us out was also very friendly. Highly recommend for everyone to stop by! read more

A very cute independent bookstore! Has nice seating options and lots of options to look through. They even have a coffee area in the kitchen area with free coffee and hot chocolate! All the cooking and food books are in the kitchen area which was a fun way to use the space. read more

Super cute and well-stocked bookstore that appeals to children, teens, and adults. The staff were warm and welcoming. Materials organized well. I found a few fab treasures for my older children including two very unique and beautiful artist-themed coloring books, washi stickers, and awesome vinyl decals! Couple of funny greeting cards, too. I've read with second grade students for almost 10 years. One of the things I love doing is making sure these students have books to read over the summer, to prevent losing reading ability. Monkey & Dog Books has a wonderful selection of books, but the most valuable thing is the people who staff it: they are expert at picking out just the right books for my students! This quaint bookstore is nestled right off Camp Bowie on West 7th behind UNT's Health Science Center. My aunt recommended it to me, and I finally got around to checking it out. Upon entering, I was immediately transported to another time and place: the wide-world of literature. The smell of books is intensely satisfying at any time of day. The proprietors were very friendly and offered any assistance they could to help find that perfect book. For many years, I've considered myself very well-read; however, I must say there were many authors I was not familiar with. What a fun Fort Worth delight! My boyfriend and I stumbled in here and left with three new books! The staff could not be nicer, they have a free coffee and tea station, and that warm fuzzy feeling you get, not found at typical commercialized bookshops, is found here. I love this little gem! They have a great selection of books for such a small shop. You get a very warm feeling as soon as you enter. I recently moved to Fort Worth and I am so excited to have a great local bookstore just around the corner. Monkey & Dog Books might be small in square footage, but they have SO many fantastic books across genres - the longer you browse, the more you realize how much variety they have. They truly have something for everyone - both times I've visited, I not only found something I had been wanting to read, I also found something I hadn't heard of that I am excited about. I have visited this charming bookstore on numerous occasions over the past year and each visit is always a pleasant experience. Today was the first time I have been able to stop by since the pandemic started (my last visit was back in March) and I was pleasantly surprised when Matt, the gentleman who is always happy to help when my son and I visit, recognized me despite having a face mask on. Apart from the book store being a great place to find great titles in stunning editions, the single act of kindness shown to me this afternoon when Matt asked how my son is doing is enough to make me want to come back again and again (and again). Over the course of several months, I have acquired a number of books to add to my library, including some beautiful Penguin cloth bound editions of my favorite books as well as a few children's books for my 8-year old son. If I didn't already have the same editions of some of my favorites from Nabokov, Vonnegut et al, I would buy them from Monkey and Dog Books in a heartbeat. The fact that they have stayed open and seem to be thriving (they seem to have added numerous bookshelves since I came in) despite an ongoing pandemic is proof that this is every book lover's haven. read more

This was a great surprise discovery on our outing today. Stopped in when we saw it. It has all the qualities of a great bookstore - comfy, great variety, and friendly staff. I almost felt like the sections were curated for me. There were books on the shelves that I've read, and are old friends. Books that have been on my to read list. Also, books that fit my interest perfectly that I didn't know were out. I'm looking forward to my next visit when I'm in a book browsing mood. read more

This quaint store in the heart of Fort Worth is worth the visit. When I entered I got the warmest of greetings and quickly saw how adorable this gem is. There were all types of books from every genre and books I had never seen before. There was games I hadn't played and I cannot wait for my next visit. This local book shop is such a gift. I love the way they have the store organized. When you walk in the flow moves from left to right (as if you were reading--how clever) starting with children's books, then you'll see lockers piled with young adult books. The tag on each locker will give you a sense of thematic organization of the trove inside. Then along the far right wall you have adult literature. Oh, and don't forget to go check out their kitchen--it's ok to poke around in these cabinets! You'll find cookbooks here. Nestled along the shelves with unique, classic, and popular books you'll find great literature-related gifts. They have shirts, scarves, and socks featuring your favorite characters or quotes. You HAVE to go here. The bookstore from your youth or that childhood movie or your dreams awaits here in this quaint, darling shop. The fella that works here, whose name escapes me but is utterly cool, legit had a 30-minute conversation with a pre-teen about Manga, comics, and common literature where she actually paid attention. That's right! A kid...paying? ATTENTION! :P The people here not only care about consumers, they care about people. You're not rushed or hurried like that one remaining chain store, and you're not fighting your way through sales tables and nonsense like that other resale shop. It's charming, endearing, and just the place you've been looking for to peruse and purchase your next reading adventure. Small but very well curated bookstore. The owners and staff are always friendly and helpful, ready with a recommendation or to let you browse in peace. I always come here for baby shower gifts because their beautiful wrapping is only $1 and they help me pick out the baby books. Best days are when the dogs are there!!!!!!! They are also willing to order anything you want that isn't in stock. Easy and plentiful parking. While they specialize in children's books they have a very nice mix of adult fiction. I wish they had more fantasy/sci-fi and poetry but I get it-those are niche genres and it is a very small store. I usually order a few books over the phone and then go in person to pick them up and browse for more. Nice bookish themed gifts too. My deepest desire: for their business to succeed and then grow to take over the neighboring storefronts. read more

This is such a wonderful ad quaint bookstore nestled in the west 7th neighborhood. I went there looking for a particular book and the man working in the front made sure to order the book for me even though they didn't have it in stock at the time. The book got there within a week and I was reading away in no time. They also have various book clubs that they put together monthly that are worth checking out on their website. This most definitely is my new go to bookstore. I love that it is black owned. The store in general is a whole peaceful vibe.

From the few photos and the name, I thought it would be more of a children's bookstore but I was so wrong. As soon as you enter, the amazing staff welcomes you and is eager to help you find any books you are looking for. Right at the entrance they had the fantasy and romance section which is a personal favorite, and I immediately found a couple of books that have been on my list. I absolutely LOVED that they had self published books from indie authors, which is so rare to find at any local bookstore (you usually have to wait for them to be re-published by a publisher to find them anywhere besides Amazon). They also have a children's section which is super cute, and I found a couple of things for my little one. On the top floor they have a couple of couches for you to hang out and a section of used books. Frankly, this was one of the best bookstores I found in the DFW area, and I can't wait to come back and support them!

Talking Animals is a wonderful establishment with regular story times for kids that often feature…read morelocal authors. It's no wonder that they opened a second location. May both locations flourish.

I regularly take a bag of books to the Buy Counter and turn them into cash. (They offer way more than places like Decluttr and Eagle Saver, which I used to have to use because I lived somewhere without used bookstores.) They had Christmas music playing which added to the lively atmosphere. I was able to find hardcover and paperback books in decent to brand new condition. The books would make great gifts for loved ones or for yourself. The prices are unbeatable and the staff are so sweet and joyful. They have a small beautiful garden next to the building. I would recommend stopping by this charming book store they have newer as well as older books. The address listed is wrong they have moved to 640 (B) Johnson Road next to the Keller Public Library.

I got tired of taking my books to Half Price Books and getting only pennies for them, so I brought all my professional and self-improvement books here so they can help support the Library. Very nice ladies working inside, they greeted me with friendliness, and they seemed so happy working there. I may take the grandkids one day to pick out some books.
