AMAZING EXPERIENCE. NO DETAIL MISSED. My husband's family has been renting tux's from here ever since they've been open. When it came time for us to get married we went to Mens Warehouse, JoS A Bank and another boutique tux shop all in Virginia where we live. All were expensive and didn't provide much care or hands on service. We knew of Monitor and decided to wait until 3 days before our wedding when we knew we'd be in Chicago so that we could go here, and I do not regret it at all (even though I was stressing..what if they didn't have his sizes!). The service we were provided was unmatched. We were there for an hour as she made sure everything was perfect, I cannot recommend this place enough. As others have said, she paid attention to every single detail. She knew my husband's sizes without even asking him. She showed us black tux options, explained why we should go with each, what was more traditional vs. what people tend to wear today. We tried on 2 styles and she made recommendations based on how each fit. She wanted everything to be perfect, so we tried on multiple pairs of pants to find the best fit, multiple shirts to make sure it wasn't too baggy and the neck fit right, multiple sizes of the jackets - I was amazed. We could try on the bow tie, the cumber-bun, the cufflinks - none of the other places we went to did any of this. She did the alterations on site and we left with the tux that day. None of the other places provided alterations to a rental. She even let us wear a new shirt instead of an old one. She pressed everything before packaging it up for us. I can't believe it. This outfit is a fantastic place to rent tuxedos. I needed one for a wedding in Chicago, but had only a vague idea of what I would require exactly, as this was my first time wearing a tuxedo. The second I stepped into the shop, the friendly staff had sized me up and recommended a slim or ultra-slim fit. She briefly ran me through the different fabric and style options they had mocked up on the mannequins. I tried three and found the perfect one in a matter of minutes. The shirt was similarly easy, along with other accoutrements like cufflinks and pocket square. The lady who helped me, Faye, has been in the business for several decades and knows what's she's doing. She keeps a very large selection of sizes and styles in stock, so nothing has to be compromised. She made the whole experience easy and effortless. The final result looked fantastic, and I got lots of kudos from my wife and other wedding guests. Moreover, this was an out-of-town event for me, so when I came back to Chicago, they delivered the tuxedo right to the hotel and picked it up from there again. And the pricing was very reasonable. I had bad experience of this place today i came here with my bf due to a good review but sadly our experience iwas terrible. Let me start by saying we made an appointment for tux fitting at 11am for today through their website and it was confirmed by Julie Rayan. We went there and the place was close, they have dry cleaning place next door so we went there instead and ask the lady in counter about next door she said to wait she has to ask someone who is assign there. So we waited. Then the lady that supposedly assign there ( i think that was Julie ) came in and that other lady ask her about us for our 11am appointment she snapped and rudely said she does not have any appointment at 11a without even looking at us and went inside. Lifesaver. Now that I am all fancy and have an obligation to attend high-class events to schmooze, network and engage I have to wear a tux sometimes. You know what it's like to show up at a Black Tie Optional event and you're the only 'Optional'? It's horrifying. It's even worse when there is photo documentation. Framed photo documentation of taking the just-a-black-suit route. Oy. So while Macy's was able to hook me up with an awesome tux in record time there not have any plain-front, no pleat, no ruffle shirts in my size to go with it. Naturally I put this off to the last minute so I had less than 24 hours to find something. I did a quick search and it turns out there was a tuxedo shop BLOCKS from my apartment. Stars aligning? Certainly. I stopped in during lunch and while waiting for service had a few minutes to check out their inventory. Tuxes, shirts, ties, cufflinks - you name it, they have it. Once the employee arrived I let her know what I was looking for and crossed fingers that they had it in stock. Sure enough, they did. We spent a few minutes trying shirts on. I am extremely picky with how my shirts fit to avoid an unflattering look and I appreciate the patience she had for me. I looked hot. Even better, the prices were much less than I imagined, and I saved even more by grabbing a used shirt. I inquired about pricing on the rest of their inventory, in case I ever were in the market, and prices were much lower than most suit and department stores. I wish I would have realized sooner. Being that I'm a good "boy" two weeks before I needed a Tux for a wedding, I stopped into Men's Warehouse in Skokie to set it up. The girl there was cold, unfriendly, and rude. She said the cost would be $169. Knowing that I didn't want to do business with her, I told her I'd be back. She said whatever, and it costs and extra $20 for rush service. Being that I am a busy guy, I completely forgot about the Tux until the Saturday before the wedding. Upset with myself, I remembered that back when I was young and stupid and used to go to HRC dinners, I would rent my tuxes from Monitor Formal Wear in Uptown. I yelped Monitor and saw they were still getting great reviews, so I gave them a call. The guy on the phone said, "Not a problem, come on in on Monday or Tuesday and we'll take good care of you. When I asked him how much, he said "starting at $59". Perfect! So, it's Wednesday morning and I'm like "Oh, sh*t. I gotta get a tux today". So I go to Monitor Tuxedo at about noon on Wed. I was freaked out, embarrassed and in a hurry. The woman behind the counter gave me the 1-2-3 on renting a Tux explained the costs and the different styles, and had me trying on jackets within a few minutes. After trying on two jackets and three pairs of pants, I had a tux that looked great and fit me beautifully. I'm pulling out my Blackberry trying to figure when I could come back and pick it up and she says wait for 5 minutes, we'll get it pressed and packaged for you and you can take it with you today - no extra charge! The total cost of the tux was $90. So, for $80 less than Men's Warehouse, I got a great Tux, great service, and a lot less hassle...Go to Monitor Tuxedo, you'll get a great tux, I guarantee it!!! read more

The reviews are all true, this place is great. I came here about three weeks before a friend's wedding, trying to get some alterations done for my bridesmaid dress. Service was great. Unfortunately, I was going to be out of the country when my dress would be ready (seriously, only took about three days to let it out a bit and shorten the halter straps). The nice seamstress said she would take care of my dress while I was gone and I picked it up the day after I came back, it looked perfect! She was also really great at answering my numerous annoying questions, addressing last minute issues (on our end, not theirs), and even suggested buying pants for the 2 little ones and renting shirts as opposed to renting an entire suit for them to save us money. I had my groomsmen get their tuxedos from here. It was WAAAAAYYYY cheaper than Men's Wearhouse. You get personalized service from Julie and Fay. I have no complaints about anything. No high pressure sales pitches. No bad attitudes. One of my groomsmen had his wedding about a year after mine.... guess where he went for his tuxedo rentals... and they even suited up his 6'5", 280lb brother without a problem. The lady who measured me took time out from helping clueless prom dates to measure me and give me a lot of helpful feedback on what I should tell the tailor in Cincinnati in addition to the measurements she took. For guys who hate tuxedos, hate people who have weddings who ask you to wear tuxedos, hate spending money to rent a tuxedo and dread going to those franchise tuxedo places in decaying malls.... There is a support group here. Check business hours. I fit the description above so my review is tailored toward those people. When I griped about having to rent a tux, the incredibly patient and hospitable Faye suggested buying a tux. When I told her I would rather show up naked to a black tie event than spend $500 to own a tux, she told me I could buy a used one for half that, even less. And not go naked, which was slightly disappointing. At first, I wondered why I would want to own an outfit that has been the recipient of chunky, sticky and gooey deposits for it's entire lifetime. Then I saw that Monitor owned a dry cleaner next door, and realized that I'm renting the same second hand tux formerly draped in bodily outbursts. While I debated owning formal wear for the first time in my life, Faye played matchmaker, showing me a variety of styles I could actually afford. Was this the threshold of adulthood I'd been waiting the last 25 years to cross? Memories of ill-fitting, sheen heavy suits taunted me with an adulthood that might not happen. Then Faye brought it out. A wicked 1970's part velvet, totally tapered formal jacket. "Can that be worn as a tux?" As soon as she said yes, I spent the next 90 minutes in the company of Faye as she had me try on a variety size jackets, pants, shoes, shirts, bow ties, vests, all of it. She never once tried to sell me anything and was as patient as could be, always reminding me that I could just rent. Faye is my salesperson of the year. I really don't love to come on Yelp to Yelp unless I'm blown away by incompetence or staggering genius. Monitor was the latter. This place is the epitome of local family business done right. MBA students should study this place. A franchise will never exude the charm of Monitor or have employees with such a zeal for what they do. Ask for the hidden vintage stuff they store down in the basement. Maybe you can own your father's first wedding tux, and finally look forward to a black tie event. read more

I'm still a little bit in shock after the Hail Mary Monitor Formal Wear threw up in the final seconds of the game. Rented a tux from Jos A Bank, went to put it on a couple of hours before a big, black tie gala (longest running black tie gala in Chicago) where my Dad was winning a lifetime achievement award. The gentleman at the Jos A Bank in Evanston put me down for a coat a size too big and in an XL big and tall but a pair a pants two sizes too small and in a regular length. My wife couldn't help but laugh when I put it on. I looked like a 10 year old wearing Dad's suit coat (sleeves came down to my knuckles, you could fit three closed fists from my belly to the front of the coat stretched forward) and the pants were very snug giving me that trendy, slim pant look but pockets bulging out. Not exactly the look I was looking for after paying close to $250 for the rental. Thankfully - THANKFULLY - my wife found Monitor Formal Wear. She called, the woman she worked with on the phone was amazing, I got over there as quickly as I could, and was walking out with a tux in around 30 minutes. To top it off, I looked good (I mean, really good, hey everyone, get over here and see how good I look) with a tux that was very flattering and slimming. I worked with the same lady my wife spoke to. She had me measured, had options pulled as I was trying things on, and couldn't let me leave without every length being perfect. Their in house tailor re-hemmed a cuff link and a pant leg in no time at all. I was out of there with a great suit in time for my event. And I paid half for the emergency rental that I paid for the rental at Jos A Bank. My family couldn't believe what I paid either, all who paid significantly more than I did. I had an excellent experience working with Monitor Formal. I had originally tried Men's Warehouse and had such an awful experience. The people at Men's Warehouse had me try on a couple tuxes that were WAY too big and claimed they didn't have any in my exact size which seems ridiculous because a) I'm a pretty average sized person (5'11'', 175lbs) and they just wanted me to trust them that I would look good when I finally picked up tuxes the few days before my actual wedding. Plus they kept questioning me about my choices and how many people in my wedding would need a tux! I left feeling extremely anxious. Decided to try out Monitor Formal Wear instead and it was the right decision. The older woman there let me try on the whole tux from the shoes to the bow-tie and let me try on a couple different styles to make sure I knew exactly what I wanted. Plus they had my size so I could see exactly how I'd look on my wedding day. She was very helpful and I was able to feel comfortable about ordering from them. Everything was a breeze from the pickup to the drop off, the cost was almost identical to Men's Warehouse, and they made sure I was happy with my rental. My son was in need of a tux for a school dance. His girlfriend requested that his vest and tie match her dress, so I looked online at all of the 'big' rental places - no luck. Desperate, I looked on Yelp, and decided to give Monitor a try. The store is small, so I was not optimistic regarding selection, but once we met Fay all of my concerns vanished. She did all of the measuring, provided thoughtful and caring personalized service, made suggestions at the right time, let my son make his own decisions at the right time, and had a selection that offered exactly what he was looking for. She even took photos of him with his phone, so he could send them to his date for color and style confirmation. :) The fit was perfect, and Fay provided us with copies of his measurements for future use. She was familiar with his (suburban) school, and the style of tux he would need for graduation.The price is very reasonable, and they offer emergency same-day service, and discounts for prom. Some call me "Last Minute McGee", but to me I am just a procrastinator. So the Wednesday prior to the HRC Gala - I decide that I am going to start thinking about what I will be wearing. The ladies that work here are just fantastic. They helped me find the right tuxedo for a wedding I was attending. I had never worn a tux before, so I definitely appreciated their help. They even gave me advice as to which one looked better (which was one of their lesser-expensive options). I was in and out within 30 minutes. I'm a regular guy (Chicago Firefighter) that rarely has a need to rent at tux. I walked into the store on a Friday evening and asked Julie if I could rent a tux for the following day (Saturday). She said that it would be no problem. The measuring "process" took about 10 minutes. I had a concern that I would not be able to return the tux for a couple of days. Julie informed me that that was fine. It is there policy that weekend rentals are returned on Tuesday. The cost of the tux (I said I wanted the least expensive one available) was about one hundred dollars. This was sixty dollars less than the other places that I researched.
