Great service on a busy weekend day, and prompt email response even afterhours. I was pleasantly surprised when I came here for a holiday event. I had struck out at just about every high-end department store you can think of, and couldn't even find a decent to try on anywhere I had gone. Gipper Prom has a large selection, with most inventory displayed on mannequins instead of just on hangers. There's no lugging around 10lb dresses, you just write the style number and color up on a slip they give you when you first walk in, and when you're done, they bring it to your dressing room. And it IS a room, with a locking door, so no worrying about that big dress leaving you exposed as you turn around. They had several associates at the dressing room, ready to help zip, clasp or adjust when needed, and they make sure the walkway is clear for you to move about. Since most people do not go dress shopping alone, they thoughtfully have ample seating and complimentary water for the poor soul you may have dragged along with you. Seating is arranged several feet behind a wall lined with mirrors, each section accompanied by a platform and appropriate lighting. The platform is likely useful for any tailoring needed, but I just used it to make my significant other nervously rate me in each of the 10 or so dresses I tried on. The staff didn't pressure you to buy, nor did anyone look at my long list of dresses like I was wasting their time or making their life terrible for no reason. The people working were friendly, and the other customers and their guests were also all cheery. Dress shopping can be a nightmare - hot, cramped, nothing fitting the way you hope, sizing not available, etc. But not the case here - and the other women shopping seemed to feel the same as me. Customers were openly complimenting each other, and the entire atmosphere was very warm. I can't rate their ability to modify or make minor fixes to beading, etc. The dress I purchased was perfect without anything needed. Overall, I was more than impressed. If you're an adult, well - clearly we aren't going to the prom, but this is a great store for many other events including pageants, galas, black tie or formal parties, or any time you can get away with being a little "extra," or are in need of a good selection of floor-length, high-quality formalwear. Given the amount of $ I paid for my daughter's dress, I expected a perfect dress that was properly inspected by the staff when they bagged it up. They even told me they were taking it in the back and checking the beading and we waited a few minutes to get it. I get home and she tries it in and I go to zip it up to see beads falling off and already missing from near the zipper. Take your business elsewhere or check the dress carefully yourself before leaving. They were very dishonest with me! read more

Came in yesterday at 10am in the morning on a Saturday to purchase a prom dress for my senior. It was a fabulous experience, we were there for 2 hours, had a lovely assistant Rebecca, she was patient with us as my daughter tried on over 10 dresses. We found our perfect one, obviously it was the last one she tried on and it came as a recommendation from a lovely pink hair woman. She totally knew what my daughter would look good in and what flattered her curvy frame, huge THANK YOU!!! My daughter and I are obsessed with her stunning gold dress! I loved the method of purchasing the dress, you get a clip board and write down which ones you want to try on. During Prom season, come prepared to wait and to have a fun experience for your teen! They give you a clipboard to write down the dresses you are interested in as you walk through an absolute ton of gowns in every imaginable color. The inventory leans toward heavily beaded/sequined. Once you chose the 10 dresses you want to try on, you hand in the list and wait for them to pull them together (and for a fitting room). We waited less than 30 min on a Sunday. Morgan was super helpful in finding the right sizes and making it a fun experience. The girls come out of the fitting rooms and stand on pedestals to model their dresses - so fun! One thing I did not appreciate was being pressured to tip the sales associate, which I did. They added my $30 tip to the balance and TAXED ME ON THE TIP! If I could give this place no stars I would. Was told 45 min wait. Ended up being more than 2 hours. First assistant that was helping my daughter was not helpful at all and then had to leave. She had no assistance for a while because all other employees were to concerned about what was happening to other employees vehicle. She tried getting employees attention but was ignored. I had to let an employee at the front know and that's when they finally got someone to help, she was also not much help. All meanwhile everyone else's assistants were being helpful to their customer. Also most dresses she picked on her slip were either wrong or missing. Owners response just shows how much they actually paid attention. The car situation was understood. The point was being frustrated that when my daughter tried getting anyone's attention for help she was ignored and that's when I had to step in and ask for help from said manager. Help was never declined. Seems like they were just annoyed at the fact that we had to get someone's attention for help and after that they treated her indifferent. Both of our sales consultants were wonderful. My daughter had s change of heart and they were so sweet about it. You can tell they were all very excited to be there helping girls find their dress. If you have a body conscious teen, steer clear. No parent allowed in back? My teen was reduced to tears. She is not a size 4, more like 14. The only way a parent can see a dress is if they come out into an area with so many people looking at them. After three dresses...came out to find me and hid behind a viewing area distraught. Not much for busty girls, and the young girl helping her in back was no help. Had I known she was crying in back, I could have gone back there. The insensitivity was horrifying. I will admit that my very recent experience here was much better than it was 4 years ago. I had vowed to never return to this place after we purchased a prom dress here in 2014 for my oldest daughter. In 2017 we avoided this place and went to Peaches in Chicago which had an unbelievable amount of dresses! We would have returned to Peaches this time but I didn't have 2 extra hours in my day to drive there and back so I settled for Gippers. This time the sales girl was 100% better than the older pushy lady we had 4 years ago. This young lady was very nice and listened to my daughter's preferences and price range. I'm sorry I don't recall her name as she was great. She worked with us & came up with an idea of adding additional fabric so the dress wasn't as revealing on top. She created a visual with a piece of fabric and we were then sold on the dress. What I was disappointed with is that it was so warm in the shop and there wasn't a lot of room to sit (although Peaches has no chairs to sit in). They did have water (and wine) that they handed out but I would have appreciated the water at the time they called my daughter's name to start trying dresses on rather than a half hour into the viewing. Once we selected the dress, they steamed it and bunched it up into a clear plastic bag. When we got home we took the dress out of the bag and it is more wrinkled than when my daughter tried it on! What a waste of time that was! Suggestion to the owner - I recall that you had garment bags for sale with your store name on it for about $10. There was no suggestive selling by the cashier that I purchase a bag, although I probably wouldn't have since it has your shop name on it. However, what I suggest to you is that you should just give those bags out with every dress you sell since they are a great advertising tool. I'm sure you purchase them for less than $5 and you can easily write that off as an advertising expense. Also, please consider handing out the water or wine when the daughter is called to try on her dresses. The lights are warm with our winter attire. read more

Its sadness me to post this review since I had nothing but great experiences in the past. If I could leave no star I would, but you must select one. On Thursday, October 13,2022, I called at 3pm to speak to Rebecca the owner since she helped me in the past and my experience with her was awesome. The manager at that time informed me that she was not in the office and proceed to collect more information, to leave Rebecca a message. Based off the information that I gave her, she recommends that I speak to Susan, Rebecca's daughter who would be in that day. I called back on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 3:40 pm to speak with Susan as recommended and was she was not in. Left message for her to give me a call. No returned call within 24 hours, so I called back on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at 1pm for Susan or Rebecca. I truly didn't expect them to be in just wanted to leave another message. The young lady informed me that Susan would be in on Monday and Rebecca is sometimes at the Bridal shop. I called on Monday, October 17, 2022, at 4:31 pm and requested to speak to Susan. I was placed on hold and then another person picks up. Everything went wrong when this person picked up the call. She did not introduce herself or greet me on the phone. She went straight into asking what did I need? I asked several times am I speaking to Susan, and she refused to answer. She avoided my question by asking what I need. I replied I'm holding for Susan, and she stated she was not there. At that moment I knew she was not truthful since the pervious person did not give me that information. I asked whom I'm speaking with? The manager! Asked her name and she informed me in a rude, unprofessional tone that she does not have to give me her name. I stated you the manager and you do not fell you need to disclosure your name? (When you call Gipper Prom their phone introduction includes their name) She informed me in an aggressive tone; "No, not until you tell me why you calling". This seems ironic giving the fact I stated the purpose of my call in the beginning. When I asked for her name again, she hung up on me. I called back several times, with no answer. I figured they have Caller ID, which explains why she didn't answer my call but answered a call from a different number. When my call was answered I asked for the name of the manager (mind you I figured it was the same rude manager that hung up) and she stated that she does not have to give me her name. I stated I have something for you're a**! Now, was that right for me to say? It was not, however, I felt at the at moment she deserved it. I'm disappoint in myself that I let a rude, unprofessional individual cause me to react and response to them in a negative way. I have never encountered rude and unprofessional service from Gipper Prom until today. Gipper Prom is a 2-hour drive from where I live. I travel the distance because of the pleasant experience I had when I purchased a dress for my daughter pageant, her masquerade ball, and my cousin prom. We travelled from St. Louis with five girls to look for prom dresses. We booked appointments very quickly over the phone and found a hotel nearby. We were nervous that not all of the girls would find a dress, so we planned to drive to other boutiques after visiting Gipper Prom. Went in with my sister to try on some dresses. As latina girls, we were obviously the minority in the store and we had no problem. However, the girl (who wore maroon lululemons and a white top) who helped my sister, was nothing but discriminatory against my sister. She didn't help her find her dream dress, and would solely focus on the white girls that needed help. when my sister needed someone to help her untie her dress, the girl ignored her and moved to help someone else. My daughter bought a prom dress from this place. Sadly her boyfriend is now having surgery a couple days before Prom due to a torn meniscus and ACL and the two are unable to attend Prom. I called and spoke with 2 managers asking to kindly accept the dress as nothing has been done with it (alterations, etc) and explained the sad situation. The manager told me to read the fine print and told me that my daughter should go with someone else, and hung up on me! The dresses are organized with different color tabs for each size so it is super easy to find every dress in your size. They are super inclusive and had sizes from 0-20. I would never purchase a dress from Here again. Bought two dresses today. Spent over $500.00. Not only did the very young girls not hang the dresses up properly, But When we got home, found a hole in the skirt in the back, the seam coming out and a hook even missing above the zipper. The personal dresser somehow missed this? The second dress even had deodorant stains on the inside and some of the bodice beading came off as soon as we rehung it properly on the hanger. Both dresses are worn from being tried on multiple times. The personal assistants had no idea how to fit a dress properly, and were not helpful in finding options to try on. If I could give them zero stars, I would. The Pandemic canceled Prom, and they will not take back an unaltered gown. In addition, the gems are falling off of the gown like crazy. Gipper refuses to return emails. I can't get a response on how to fix so we can sell it since they won't take it back. The mark up on their dresses is huge. I have no idea why there are such horrible reviews. If there are problems with dresses than the owner/lead consultant always offers to remedy any inconsistencies in beading or detailing. My only complaint is I believe the consultants are a little pushy. Designer dresses are expensive. If you don't want to pay that much then a designer dress boutique isn't for you. The price correlates with the quality. Their prices are pretty reasonable. read more

We did buy a dress. I have a few comments. The staff was very helpful and nice, despite the comments listed. Many dresses we wanted to see were not available because we needed a size 10 (size ten and above are LIMITED. If you are a 00-08 size, you will be happy to know that MOST of the dresses carry your size. We went at 2:30pm on a Saturday, and it was VERY busy, so we waited nearly 45 minutes. When you enter, you are given a sheet where you write your school name and your size of dress. On that same sheet, you choose from dress styles on mannequins. My daughter was brought many styles we had chosen, but were the wrong size. Perhaps the helper just wasn't paying attention. We live too far to come again because her choices were slim. read more

I thought this Gipper opened earlier than 10am, so I arrived like a half-hour early before the store opened. I drove from Barrington, so I decided to just wait in my car. 20 minutes...10 minutes...5 minutes...before opening and still no employees have even walked in the front door of the place. I was just hoping to make a quick stop before going to work. I'm watching the lights switch on at the Bath and Body Works next door, and I'm starting to get worried that Gipper isn't even going to open or maybe the hours posted on the door are a lie. I call their number. No answer. Other customers are now standing there with me wondering what's going on. Finally, 10 minutes after they are supposed to open, a woman comes around the corner to open the door. She didn't apologize for making us wait or anything. She didn't even acknowledge it. However, she has a Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee in her hands. So let me get this straight....she had time to stop for coffee, but she couldn't get to work by 10am? Not professional AT ALL. I followed her up to the counter because I just needed to ask about an accessory item. Without saying anything, she went straight into the back to turn on lights, turn on music and who knows what else as the clock keeps ticking. Finally she gets up front and I get some service. When you first walk in, the store appears to have thousands of dresses to choose from; however, they only have each dress in one size. All the dresses that I liked, were in nothing close to my size and the ladies working there said they kept no dresses in back. Gipper Prom is by far THE BEST formal wear store in Illinois. They recently opened a new location with more dresses, more customer service, and the best dresses. They have dresses for every size, including plus sizes. The owner is the sweetest and helped me find the perfect dress. They buy designer dresses and have a variety of price ranges. I have been at this store multiple times and noticed they get more busy when it gets closer to Prom so I would recommend going early and bringing a parent. I bought a two piece dress with a jersey skirt and a beaded top. It was much higher quality than the previous dress I had purchased at a different store. I had a very pleasant experience at Gipper today. The owner took very good care of me, and even pointed out missing beading on my dress that I hadn't noticed (which I found to be very honest and considerate). Zoe and Ashley were very friendly in assisting me try on dresses, and Zoe even helped push my baby around in her stroller to help me get around more easily. I think the store is well organized and has a decent selection. Customer service is much better than peaches (where I used to buy all my dresses). A kind young man helped me bring my dress to my car.
