We've visited Monical's since my last update and every time it's just been outstanding, especially the service. Today we lunched with friends and discovered they were regulars known by name. That, and the nearly empty dining room at noon, could account for the high service we received this visit. House salads came out in oversized bowls. It was a thoughtful act as previously overstuffed small bowls would spill contents on the table. Even a mistake was acknowledged and corrected before we noticed it. A pizza with the pan crust was set before us when we'd ordered thin crust. I received a coupon for a free cheese pizza and I never had their pizza before. I ordered mushrooms and onions as toppings so the large pizza was $5, but it was worth it. We should have been warned by the fact we passed several restaurants on our way to Monica's with packed parking lots and arrived at Monical's only a couple. Against our better judgement we proceeded in anyway. Server was super nice and outgoing. Tried to explain the menu but to no avail. I am still scratching my head on how the menu was supposed to be deciphered. We ended up just winging it and hoping for the best. What arrived was two small pizza's that, although the window stated voted best St. Louis pizza, was not the best pizza, St. Louis or otherwise. It doesn't seem like there are as many pizza parlors around these days. Dine in Pizza Huts are practically extinct. Domino's has always been carry out / delivery. There are only two proper Pantera's left in the metro area. I don't know when this Illinois based chain opened up this outpost in Missouri, but it's nice to have another option. The furnishings and decor are what I would file under 'modern', but under the hood, this is an old school pizza parlor. I don't know about 'best pizza in St. Louis', but it's pretty good. I'm not sure how to categorize what style of pizza this is. They've got thin crust and pan. I've only tried the pan so far. I suspect it's similar to Garcia's (another Illinois pizza joint) thick crust. The thin crust might be Chicago Tavern Style? I'll have to try it to be sure. This location has Provel available, but I wouldn't expect it at any of their other locations. read more

There is this thing called "St. Louis Pizza"....it's fine. But I haven't been the same since I tried fresh garlic on my pizza. And Monical's has fresh garlic so they're already a cut above in my book. Nice crispy thin crust and an appropriate amount of cheese - enough but you're not going to drown in cheese. PRO TIP: if you haven't tried their house dressing (a sweet French), get a cup and drizzle on your pizza to add even more pizzaz! Yummmmm! First time here for #pizzapassport This is a chain, mostly in central Illinois, but don't let that deter you from trying them. They were voted "best pizza in St Louis" in 2018, according to the Post-Dispatch Go section. Of course, "best" of anything is subject to one's own taste. We will definitely try them again in the future. We ordered at the counter then found a table. Service was okay, we had to wait for someone to check on us for refills, but perhaps that's because it was early afternoon. They weren't busy, but probably short-staffed. The staff here is very nice and polite, we have had good service/experience both times. The ambiance is nice, and the place has been clean, with nice restrooms. The food on the other hand, really lets down the good service and otherwise enjoyable experience. Neither time was our appetizer what you would call cooked well, as the cheese on the cheese garlic bread was barely even melted and the vast amount of butter just drowned out the bread so it's a soggy under-cooked mess. The pizza is probably fine for kids, but it's not very flavorful. We got a supreme the first time and the next time got the pepperoni. The Supreme was under cooked, and even though it was loaded with toppings, had very little flavor. The sausage and pepperoni are present, but not impactful. The second time we got the double crust; Don't get that. It's supposed to be a thin crust, sauce and cheese, another crust on top with regular toppings. Ours was just two thin crust shells on the bottom which turned out to just be a flavorless dry experiment in sadness. read more

This is my second time eating pizza from Monical's. We were not impressed with the first dine in visit...as we felt the pizza was pretty generic for the price. I still kind of feel this way, but added an extra star for one thing in particular. The phone service was fine. Courteous young lady di managed delivery expectations for a pending snow storm. She said possibly 2 hours - and it was there in 45 minutes. Perfect. Pizzas were delivered in foil and paper bags. Odd, but it worked...and there were no boxes to worry about recycling or having to run outside in the sub freezing temps. Pizza was in great shape and warm. We ordered one thin and one pan pizza. I did not have expecations for either. The thin crust was bland - even with the 'provel' mix. It was like eating cardboard with cheese that slid off. Also, the 'slices' were cut so small, I felt like it was a 5 year old pizza party situation. The pan pizza is another story. This is what you should get. Very soft and doughy with crispy edges. Like a combination of 1980s Pizza Hut, Godfathers and Rocky Rococco (remember them?). Toppings were loaded - and there was plenty of cheese. We got everything on it...and they didn't skip. Wonderful pizza. Here is the deal though...before tip, our order for 2 pies was over 50 bucks (which included delivery). It was about 60 after tip. 60 bucks for 2 pies...no breadsticks, drinks, wings or salads. This is not Giordanos. I could be wrong, but I feel like that is a good pop for one above average...and one below mediocre pizza. Ordered three items. All three were wrong not to mention sad excuses for food! Nothing but a few slices of roast beef on a bun for $15.99. Dry. The 16" pizza is missing the pepperoni and only has diced veggies like a frozen pizza. I order a small pan just to try it. The cheese isn't melted, not much cheese and it's missing the sausage. Finally stopped in to this local pizza joint since its so close to my place and I drive passed it like everyday. My boyfriend and I stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and were seated immediately. Our server was awesome, entertaining and provided great service! We got the pepperolies and hot wings- small orders of each. The pepperolies are such a cool concept, basically a cinammon roll except pizza style. They were amazing. My boyfriend loved the wings. Going to definitely come back here to try the cinammon and/or fruit pizzas because yum. For the pizza we got a large deluxe pan pizza and added a ton of toppings on top of that which were free (!) and of course we made it ultra complicated for our waiter, getting toppings on thirds of the pizza. But he was super attentive and took our order with no problem. The pizza was a 10/10 couldn't have asked for anything better. They even offer the STL provel style here too if you want to sub it out for the mozzarella. Food: First of all, I grew up on Monicals in central IL and I love it. The taste is consistent, at no point have I been to one that wasn't. The best thing on the menu is the deluxe pizza for me, no doubt! I can usually take down a 14-inch medium one all by myself which of course I did this time. The trick with any Monicals pizza is to actually order the pizza incredibly crispy. This will actually result in the veggies not being as moist and the pizza more firm when picking up those middle pieces (end pieces are the best!). Absolutely amazing taste and it never disappoints! This place is a FAVORITE of mine and I have been unable to find my slice of home in Pekin south of Springfield, Illinois. And then one day, I found out one had opened in O'Fallon!! You have to believe I was there instantly EVEN though I live In south city. It does help that my boyfriend lives only 15 minutes away because it is always a MUST!! There pizzas are pretty straight forward, add what you want and use thick or thin crust. PLEASE GO THIN CRUST ON THIS AND TRUST AND BELIEVE YOU WILL NEED A LARGE!! You will eat it so fast even though it's normal large pizza size diameter. The cheese they use is always just right flavor wise and/or amount wise. They don't over do it on the cheese at all, they are heavier in sauce sometimes which is frustrating to eat, but not overpowering. Get the family pleaser while you're at it, you HAVE HAVE HAVE to try their special store French dressing. Even if you don't like French, take a taste! I proved my boyfriend would like it and I definitely didn't think he would! This facility is clean, staffed with attentive hostesses, and waitresses. Little to no problem to get a table at most times, take out is no longer of a wait than 20-30 minutes. They also offer an array of beverages ranging from water to wine. Monical's has been my favorite pizza since I was a child growing up in Illinois. I just drove a group of 9 people all the way from Texas, 700 miles, and convinced them all that eating at Monical's was a must. We arrived around 7:45 pm. There were a few people in the restaurant who all had their food already. We were seated in the back right away. The waitress took our drink order and came back for our food order. When she started taking our order I explained, as I had done to every other server for the previous two days, that we had one group of 3 that was family and on one ticket and the rest of us were single tickets. She kind of huffed and said "I don't know how my computer will handle that", as if this was a huge inconvenience. I also asked at this point if I could get some sweetener. She left and didn't return for some time and when she did, I had to ask for sweetener again. Finally a different person brought our salads and I asked for sweetener a third time and that lady went and got it for me. We then waited an extremely long time for our pizzas, which came out slightly burnt, although, thankfully the Monical's taste that I came for was still there. But we had waited so long that none of us had drinks at this point. We asked for a round of refills and after some time finally got those. When she came to bring the tickets I paid for my food and asked for a box. She left and was gone for a bit and returned, without a box. The other lady came to clear the table and I had to ask her for boxes. The food was the same but the quality of service we received was subpar and not what I have come to expect at Monical's. The place was not busy and repeatedly having to ask for the bare minimum service is unacceptable. I understand times are tough and good help is hard to find but the basic customer service/food industry expectations were simply lacking. My telling you we need 6 tickets is no different for your computer than if you have 6 separate tables. I shouldn't have to be drinking melted ice because the server never checked on my table to see if we needed a refill. I shouldn't have to ask for sweetener three times.
