Update to Aaron Z. I'm sorry but nothing was fresh about the sushi or tempura, and the waiter definitely knew we weren't happy with our meal. He seemed happy to ignore our discontent, and to be honest, I was happy to leave. I feel like most people come here for the bowls. My husband got one and it was a lot better than anything else. The shrimp and vegetable tempuras were so thickly breaded...tempura is supposed to be light and crispy...you couldn't taste the vegetables. The yellow tail nigiri was chewy and tasted old. I also tried the Bobby Roll...also old tasting. So nothing tasted fresh. Such a waste of money. I hate trying to find a good sushi place because they're either good or really bad...not really room for in-between. I decided to go into the restaurant and make a to-go order around 9:10 since it was on the way home. After one of the hosts took my order, they offered me a seat at the bar where I could wait. It wasn't so busy for a Thursday night so I thought "ok, cool, it won't take that long." I was wrong. I waited a few minutes but then a few minutes turned into a while. I wasn't approached by anyone, but I saw sushi on the bar counter that was in a to-go container. Seeing that, I went up to the host stand to speak to the male host to check on the status of my order. He proceeds to look over to the bar, realizes that the food I ordered was ready and gets it for me. On his way back to the host stand, I say to him "so it was sitting there this entire time?" He responds and tells me "I'm sorry, I was texting my mom." Uhhh, whaaat? Dude. You're at work. Why do you have your phone out and texting at work? You completely neglected my order. On top of that, he smiles at the chefs at the sushi bar while he was getting my food off the counter. Not very professional. All in all, I waited almost 30 minutes for my to-go order to be ready and it was just sitting there for 20 something minutes. Not a good experience for me. One of my friends wanted to try this place very badly and it just so happen I was in the mood for some sushi. Let's just say none of us were disappointed! We were greeted upon arrival and taken care of very quickly! I ordered the 6 pc mango habanero wings and the spicy tuna roll! The roll was fresh and the wings were on point! I eventually ordered the shaggy dog roll, and let's just say that might be my new favorite roll! I didn't get a drink but I will be back to get one probably this week! You start off with a medium sized bowl for veggies. Pack it with what you want. Then you start off with a smaller bowl for meat. Bowl is wayyyyyy too small for meats. You have a variety of meat: chicken, beef, shrimp, imitation crab, sausages, etc. then you have a tiny bowl that can hold about 3 spoons of sauce. I used the Great Khan sauce which kind of tasted like teriyaki but has something else added. There's a mixture of sauces though--Mongolian BBQ, Teriyaki, orange glaze, and couple of others I forgot. You also get to goose your carbs, udon, pad Thai, white or brown rice, or none at all. I chose pad Thai. Overall, it wasn't too bad. But like I said before, I didn't have a lot of meat to start off with. -Salmon Sushi: actually, the ration of salmon to rice was great. Big salmon piece and little rice. This was happy hour. The stir fry section is pretty good, that's what me and my boyfriend came for. The portion is bigger than Genghis Grill and about the same price. I liked that each portion- veggies, meat, sauce- had a different bowl for you. The sauces are pretty basic, you're allowed to sample and mix. THERE IS NO PEANUT SAUCE, which was a huge downside for me. There are different noodles choices too, like pad thai noodles or udon. That's awesome. Happy hour looked interesting! Visited here yesterday for a date with my bestfriend. Loveeeee the happy hour everyday/all day special. I ordered the Crunchy Roll & the also created a bowl. The reason why I rated 3/5 is because there was no sanitary precautions in place besides hand sanitizing stations. I expected more precautions due to COVID and when I asked an associate she didn't know any of the precautions besides "wearing a mask." LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. Ok, in California we have what we call "Mongolian BBQ" which is basically the same concept. This is my first visit to one in Houston and my expectations were more than met and even exceeded! I never knew I love Mongolian BBQ as much as I do now! (F it... Im going tonight!) First off, I have never seen so many options in every aspect: meat, veggies, seasonings, carbs, starches, etc. If you have ever been to a similar type place in Cali then you know that it is pretty limited. For example, the meats are limited to beef, chicken, pork and lamb. At Mongo, however, there are all of the above named plus scallops, fish, shrimp and a bunch of other meats I cannot remember (I am not much of a carnivore). The ambiance is appropriate and the service is friendly. Our waitress was attentive, friendly and very nice. It was slow that night but I dont care if I am the only one in there... I will vibe with the veggies they were so good. I am more than pleased and more than hungry, just thinking about it... think I might go tonight :) read more

My husband and I were craving stir fry and decided to check this place out. It's in the town center strip of Pearland, which is pretty far from where we live, but we prefer it to the town center at FC mall. Parking wasn't too bad - we managed to find something in the lot behind the restaurant. Upon entering, we were greeted with dim lighting and an overall peaceful and elegant ambiance. It took a few minutes for the hostess to seat us so we got a chance to read the blackboard by the podium. It advertised their happy hour, which apparently is all day every day (lol). Upon seating, we were handed a menu. They have quite a bit of sushi, but we weren't in the mood for that so we opted out. We went ahead and got in line. If you've ever been to Genghis Grill, it's the same concept...but better. Why better? Better because you get a separate bowl for your meat and a separate bowl for your veggies. As far as options go, they have a variety of vegetables and meats to choose from. They also have about 6 starch options to choose from. I like the fact that they had minced garlic as well as an asian chili sauce for people like me that enjoy extra seasoned meat. Don't worry - the powders are there as well and they also have a variety of those. I like the concept of them having us write our name and table number on a card and putting it in the tray with our meat and vegetables. That made for less confusion when it comes to distributing the food. The food was plentiful when it arrived. The bowls are one size, but if you pay $16.99, you can have an unlimited amount. I feel like that's a little excessive since like I said, the amount of food was plentiful (assuming you completely fill your meat and vegetable bowl). For the people that complain about the taste...you made it yourself so it's your fault it doesn't taste good! The only acceptable complaints are if it isn't cooked well..since that's about the only thing in the hands of the cook. Why 4 stars? Because unlike GG, they don't have dividers between different foods on the grill so I ended up with mushrooms in mine (which I despise). That being said, if you have any kind of food allergy, you may want to opt out of this place since it's pretty likely it may end up in your bowl. That isn't enough to keep me from coming here, though. I'm okay with being extra careful when I'm eating - the food is delicious so it's absolutely worth it! read more

I truly like restaurants where you get to pick and choose what type of vegetables, meat/chicken/pork/shrimp along with what spices you want to add to the meal. You also get to choose what type of sauces you would like on your dish. Mongo Bowel is this type of place so it comes highly recommended from me. It was not too long ago that your choices were limited in Pearland however that is just not the case anymore but Mongo Bowel is still one of my favorite spots for lunch in the Peatland area. I've been looking for a good Mongolian BBQ ever since I came to Houston, and I walked out of Mongo fairly happy. They have a great selection of meats and fresh veggies to turn into a great stirfry, the restaurant looks great, and the service is friendly. There is an inherent danger in making your own stir-fry - you're in control of everything, including seasonings. You could make something very tasty, or you could completely screw it up and make it either too bland or too salty or spicy, all depending upon what you put in your bowl. The back of the menu gives you some suggestions, but once I got up to the line, I forgot everything I had read. Mongo puts out little tasting spoons for the sauces so you can sample what you're adding before you put it on, but before you get to that point they have a selection of powdered spices to sprinkle on. My advice after my meal is stick to the sauces. The powdered spices don't get evenly distributed amongst your food, so some bites were overly salty. You'll get better results from the sauces. With some trial and error, I'll get it right. Mongo is the kind of place that I won't mind going back several times. read more

If you've never been to a Mongolian BBQ place, it's like a salad bar but with meat. So, to a large extent, the food that you get is dependent on the choices YOU make in selecting the ingredients (veggies, meats, spices for the veggies, and sauce(s) for the whole bowl. The cooks then prepare a bowl with your ingredients, plus your choice of rice. Choose poorly and you will not enjoy your food; choose wisely and you'll have a great dish. Pros: large variety of everything to choose from. Good service. Nicely stocked bar. Decent pricing. Cons: you really need to think when you are selecting your ingredients, especially in terms of how they will all combine to make a good dish. With such a large selection, it's a bit easy to overdo some things. Luckily, the menu offers several "recipes" that you can use to make your selections. This is so great. I love this place so much. I got the Lo Mein and my two kids got the traditional fried rice and the other the build your own bowl. Both of them loved what they got. We come here every time we go shopping in this area and it has become tradition to us. This place usually has great service and always has delicious meals. We also got the Philadelphia roll and again, my kids loved it. My one kid always gets the build your own bowl and loves to mix and match the veggies and meats and spices and sauces. She never gets the same thing twice and she thinks it's good each and every time. She said once that the cooks must be magic for making such odd combos so good. Really great place for a reasonably priced, high quality meal. Been here a couple times, had the Mongolian stir fry, which is quite good. However, the standout item was the sushi, which is some of the cheapest you'll find, but the price definitely doesn't correlate with the taste. Their sashimi is amazing, and the amount they give you for the cost is really surprising. Even the cheaper rolls are well-made and satisfying; I especially recommend the yummy roll, which is a great combination of tuna and salmon. Ordered salmon sushi and the waiter brought me a crunchy roll...I said this wasn't what I ordered, said I ordered salmon sushi and he said he hadn't even put the order in. Then I ordered the Orange Dragon Roll and the Texans Roll. A server brought out the RED dragon roll...then I told her it wasn't what I ordered & told her I ordered the ORANGE dragon roll. She then sent our 1st waiter back where he asked what I had ordered...I then repeated orange dragon roll and Texans roll...to which he replied that he hadn't put the order in yet for my Texans Roll...then asked if I still wanted it. The server who brought out the incorrect Red Dragon Roll came out with what was supposed to be my Orange Dragon Roll...I could tell that they had just taken the tuna off and put salmon...because there was still spicy salmon inside & the orange dragon had spicy tuna inside. The server who brought me the Red Dragon came back and I asked if this was the same roll they had just brought me but with the tuna on top switched out...because it came back sloppy and wrong. She took it back. Then within minutes ANOTHER server brought me the CORRECT Orange Dragon Roll. I can't understand how they're messing up orders THIS much and being so SLOPPY. I have had some of the best and worst meals of my life here. Both were because of my own hand. We were two of the first people to ever eat at Mongo as we sort of accidentally discovered it while walking around the Pearland Town Center the night it opened. The interior is very tight and hip and has one of the coolest glass chandeliers in the entrance. If you've ever had Mongolian BBQ, its more or less the same idea with a few differences: 1) the meat is stir fried instead of being prepared separately and/or grilled and 2) you have complete granularity of control when it comes to every single element of your meal. This can either be really awesome or !!!totally not awesome!!! (namely if you have two left feet in the kitchen and/or are new to Asian cuisine and its intricate flavors). Follow the line, fill up each little color coded bowl with your meats, proteins, veggies, spices, and sauces respectively (but do yourself a favor and use half of the spices you've convinced yourself are necessary...you'll thank me when you return here to write your own review). They have some of the freshest and best tasting veggies I've ever had outside of the farmers market, but the meats are raw and untreated and lacking any sort of marinade (read: you may very well get super tough beef and/or chicken with a little bit of an odd flavor). The sauces are pretty standard and run the gamut from "Americanized Chinese food sauces" to "coconut curry" and lots of flavors in between. I usually use a mix of 2-3 sauces that I always think is my standard but it has never tasted the same in the 2 dozen times I've gone. I should also note that the mixed drinks lean on the weak side but taste amazing. They have some good sake and some not so good sake, but honestly my favorite is the relatively cheap Hana Lychee Sake, served warm. Be creative, but use some restraint! read more

The concept at Mongo's is "Do-it-yourself" style dining where you choose your veggies, protein, seasons and stir-fry sauce, then it's prepared and served over rice, brown rice or noodles, or udon. I'm partial to the traditional dining experience that is rooted from a chef's inspiration rather than the DIY style. While the restaurant does offer a few recipes for those less than perfect cooks, they fail to offer portion or ingredient sizes so your estimation may lead to an overly or under seasoned meal. There is a full sushi menu which I hear is very good and fresh. (No the sushi is not DIY, it comes complete and ready to eat.) The bartender made my cocktail PERFECTLY! No complaints there. I did enjoy the overall atmosphere. The decor is very clean, crisp and modern. Perhaps if the owners would consider offering more detailed recipes or a full menu for those who just want to order and eat, I'd rate my overall experience here higher. read more

Mongo is located in the Pearland Town Center and they have happy hour all day with some nice discounts on apps, beer, sake, and cocktails. Restaurant looks nice inside. Went to Mongo for the first time last night - i've been to Mongolian BBQ's all around Texas and Ireland, and this was the best one I've been to yet. The portion sizes aren't the biggest due to their somewhat limiting bowl sizes for putting the veggies and meats into - but they do have an option for $14.99 for unlimited bowls if you're really hungry. The taste of the food of course is up to your choices for veggies, meats, seasonings, and sauces - but I found the spicy garlic to be quite good. If you're ever in S.
