Such an amazing day to visit the area. Beautiful scenery. Flowers blooming. Greenery in abundance. Beauty all around. I love the peacefulness of the area. So quiet and serene. Such an amazing place to visit.

What an amazing experience and top-notch organization in our own backyard!! This is the Wednesday program at Monarch Dunes on Wednesdays. What is First Tee?? The First Tee is an international youth development organization introducing the game of golf and its inherent values to young people. What are the values? Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, Perseverance, Courtesy, and Judgment. Kids not only learn to respect golf; they learn to respect others, themselves, and authority. My boys take lessons at their program at Monarch Dunes in Nipomo and THEY LOVE IT!!! It is fun, positive, and encouraging. The coaches are fabulous because they are not simply there to teach golf; they are there for the kids to enjoy golf. The First Tee has lots of programs so check their website out for the most convenient program for your child/youth. You can call them up and/or register online. Scholarships are available. TFTCC is one of many chapters of the First Tee non-profit organization in all 50 states and select places around the globe. They have after-school and in-school programs, we help shape the lives of young people from all walks of life and levels of sportsmanship. In my opinion, the coaches here set the gold standard in youth education because they know how to develop youth of all ages and levels. Plus, they are kind and patient with kids with special needs! Stellar.

I was able to find great deals on mini golf and arcade credits through Groupon, which definitely helped. There are tons of fun games, and the kids loved the arcade. They even managed to win prizes from the giant claw machine, which never happens, so that was a big highlight! They also have batting cages and water bumper cars, though the bumper cars were out of commission when we visited. I'd recommend eating beforehand and bringing your own drinks. The food is overpriced and not great quality. That said, the service was very friendly both at the food counter and in the arcade/ticket area.

The website will say "open," but weekday hours don't actually start until 2 PM, and that detail is buried further down. We found that out the hard way after finishing up at the pier around 11 and having to completely pivot our plans (including grabbing food elsewhere to hold the kids over). Not a dealbreaker, but definitely something to be aware of if you're visiting from out of town. Once they did open though? Completely different story. We were greeted by Robert -- and honestly, he set the tone for the entire visit. He was the only one up front at first, but you wouldn't have known it based on how smoothly everything went. Friendly, attentive, and actually present. He helped us get set up, handled food, and still managed to keep an eye on everything else going on. And yes -- he made our pizzas fast, gave us a buzzer, and sent us on our way to enjoy the games instead of waiting around. That alone? Huge. We ended up doing the arcade route first, and this is where Boomer's really surprised me. I used a Groupon deal and paid $25 for 100 points, and it just so happened to be one of their half-off arcade days. So instead of games costing 3 points, they were 1.5 -- and the machines actually show you the discount clearly. That's smart business. The card system is also way better than old-school arcades. No paper tickets flying everywhere -- everything loads directly onto the card. And for once, we actually had enough points to get decent prizes. We walked out with a bunch of toys and plushies instead of the usual "you can afford a sticker and a piece of candy" situation. At one point, my son joked that a game was "rigged," and Robert immediately stepped in -- not in a defensive way, but in a "let me make sure this kid is having a good time" way. He showed him how the game worked, pointed out that he had already won multiple times, and turned it into a funny, reassuring moment instead of letting frustration build. That kind of attentiveness stands out. We also tried the go-karts (paid separately), and I'll say this: if you're even considering it, just go for the unlimited option. One round was enough to realize we wanted to get right back in line. The kids had a blast, and even with one riding with me, it was still a great experience. We ended up spending about 2.5 to 3 hours here between food, games, and rides -- and overall spent around $100. For everything we did, that's actually a really solid value. Especially compared to places like Scandia, where you can easily drop $200 without blinking. There was also a giant claw machine with oversized bouncy balls -- both of my boys won on their first try, which felt like a miracle in itself. We couldn't take them with us (overpacked car problems), so we gave them to another family with little ones. Unexpected wholesome moment. Overall vibe: * Not overly crowded (at least when we went) * Clean and easy to navigate * Systems are modern and efficient * Staff presence was light, but Robert carried the experience If I had one note, it would be the hours communication -- that part could be clearer upfront. But once you're inside, the experience makes up for it. We came in slightly thrown off by the timing... and left with happy kids, prizes, and zero regrets. And Robert? Give that man his flowers. He made a lasting impression without even trying to. All in all a great experience and 10/10 would recommend ! BUT THEY OPEN AT 2pm on weekdays ! REMEMBER THAT !

Jim has been my golf coach since I was 9. That was 39 years ago. He taught me as a kid everything I…read moreknow. I remember being in 5th grade, last day of school and we were headed to the beach to camp for a week. On the way out of town I had a book report due on the Grip by Ben Hogan that I had to drop off at La Purísima. Jim has an unconventional style of teaching. Yes he can teach you the mechanics. That's easy. But where he excels and makes him world class is his ability to coach your mind to get around the golf course and also translates to life. Jim coached me all the way through my college playing days at Utah Valley University and then we took a 20 year break from working together because I stopped playing golf. Playing competitively from 10-23 and especially grinding in college put me into burn out. And I wasn't close to going Pro. So all my time went to my family, Goldman Sachs, furthering my education, and side fun jobs. As my career progressed I became a Financial Advisor and now also with older kids I can now get my game back. Naturally I went back to the GOAT who taught me as a kid. I live in Lake Tahoe now and he's in California. No problem because I have the game. I have the mechanics on how to play. I don't need help there. Where I need help is upstairs. Getting my mind dialed in and working on managing the course. We have been 2 years back at it and I went from a 10 handicap to a 5. I shot 74 today which I will post a pic of. I'm getting my game back and working through my mental game, preparation, dialing in my shots, and really playing respectable golf again. It's been a long time, since my college days, that I played decent golf. So no need to live on the central coast. Jim and I meet weekly on face time. We work through my challenges. He shares wisdom. He helps me with more high level techniques like using the bounce on my 60 degree to pitch the ball and make it land soft on the green. I have tons of stories, 39 years worth but i will stop here. Book Jim now! Best money you will have ever spend if you want to cut your handicap in half like I have. Now looking to cut it in half yet again and get to a 2. Play Well! Brian Cheney

I was frustrated at first because other instructors were often quickly frustrated that I did not know the basics. Jim was a breathe of fresh air! He was very patient and helped me learn the basics and is getting me up to speed much faster than I thought possible. Jim is a masterful instructor. You cannot go wrong with him. I HIGHLY recommend.
