Love the course and the layout of it. Love the area - it feels very relaxed. My only complaint would be that the greens are a bit on the slow side and a little bumpy. But, heck, that could change in a few days. Also, the Par 3 Challenge Course is great fun. But the greens there are very undulated (some ridiculous pin placements) and extremely slow. Lush Links style course is a challenge, but one that's worth conquering! Beatiful scenery and great views, can get a bit windy in the afternoon... but the course layout is a good one. I hear the locals love it as well since we bumped into quite a few after we finished Watch out for carts dying though since our foursome had a cart die, and we also saw a couple dead ones during the course of our day. (Must be poor batteries) Great course, amazing manicured greens and neat small course. Main complaint is service for food/drinks. Food service not helpful and happy hour cuts at 5pm on the dot. It was 5:02 and they wouldn't let HH prices after ordering. this is a review of the Challenge 12 hole par three course. I was driving from the San Diego area up to San Fran for a wedding. I decided to drive up the coast and break up the drive with a quick "12 holes" The Pros : Wide open. Where I play, it is packed on a Friday afternoon at 3:00. This course was empty. Nice feel to the course. Lots of optical illusion on the lay out the first time around. Nice versitile Tee boxes. Course was in decent shape, although the greens had several types of grass invaded them. Most greens were huge, but multi tiered and tricky. STAY BELOW THE HOLE Pay attention to the wind as well. Multi club affect. CONS: Long walk from starter to first tee and if you are talking a cart on a 12 hole par three course than you are a poser anyway. WALK THIS COURSE The greens were a little invaded with other grasses. Bunkers were very hard compact sand. Play accordingly. This is a nice track. Bring a good short game, otherwise you will waste alot of shots around the green. Dont be afraid to hit your tee shot into the slope of green and let it come back to hole. Walked this in 1 hour and 15 minutes. Nice guys in clubhouse. read more

Great lay out. Cool climate even in mid afternoon. Beautiful undulating lay out with well kept greens and fairways. The rough is a little dicey in spots (Not as well maintained due to the drought), but hopefully you spend less time there than I do! Monday night tacos at the Butter Fly grill was perfect after 18 holes. A meal and beer for under $10? Not bad My favorite course here on the Central Coast read more

One of if not the best golf experience I have ever had in California. The course is challenging and well laid out and forces you to really think about every shot The greens run true and the many undulations make them very challenging. The staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable. After playing the Old Course, we decided to play the par 3 Challenge course and were very impressed with it as well. All in all a top notch experience and I plan on returning many times in the future. read more

The course was recommended to me as a "links course" which it really is not. Yes, there are natural dunes throughout and the course has some curvy holes with interesting elevation changes but it also has very tall eucalyptus trees that serve well as wind breaks. There are several blind tee shots and approach shots and is not a real walkable course although the pesky little roped out parts of the fairways made me wish I was on foot. I played the combo tees which is a good way to go at 130 slope if you're a mid handicap. This is a Trilogy course and apparently an upscale retirement type of community with very gussied up elements of design and beautiful landscaping. I'm sure one of the better courses around SLO. read more

This course is my favorite in the central coast! The first time ever playing here I was a little intimidated because of price and scenery. It looked really difficult to play. After my first round I fell In love! It's challenging but still fun. Every hole has a different feel to it, where you are experiencing something different each time. I can say putting is a tad bit tricky because of the hills. Once you get used to it, it becomes easy. I have played my best rounds there. Don't be intimidated by the looks of the course it plays well for all types of golfers. The range is awesome as well, with yardage markers all over the place. I highly recommend this course to anyone in California. Greens, fairways and tee boxes are well taken care of, even in drought California. read more

Very good layout and a fair test of golf. Some blind shots that require local knowledge. The greens are lightning fast - STAY BELOW THE HOLE. It was a bit more crowded than I expected for a Thursday, but given the quality of the course I understand it. There were more houses on the course than I expected, but they're set back, so I was never worried about breaking a window. Oh, they have the ugliest beer $lu+ on the planet. read more

One of the nicest courses you will find, anywhere. New owners are first-class guys and are "real" golfers, so they listen to what you have to say. Clubhouse/pro shop/range/putting green is all first-rate and well-kept, food is fantastic in the restaurant. The course is challenging but beautiful and relaxing. Each hole is different and you must play smart. The rates are fantastic, even the rac I believe is around $80 with a cart. If this course were in a bigger metropolitan area, it would be in excess of $130 a round. You need to play here, I promise you won't regret it. read more

Challenge course - don't let the $12 per hole or the funky 12 hole layout keep you from playing this course. This is great practice for your short game. On some of the holes the fairway looks like one long bunker. On others, the fairway is almost all water. These are all par 3 but they will kick your b*tt if you are not straight and long. Course was in great shape with perfect though tough greens. Best recommendation is that I would definitely play this course again. read more

I have to agree with the other 1 star review, the staff in the pro shop act like they are doing you a favor by allowing you to be in there presence, very condescending. Our threesome arrived without a tee time, the employee informed me it was crowded and we may have to wait. I paid and went to the driving range.When our third arrived and attempted to pay his green fee he was told he couldn't play without a tee time and sent him away. The course was empty, 1 foursome teed off in the half hour I observed. My friend came from out of town to play this course because I told him how awesome it is to play. Until the staff pulls there heads out of there a------- I will not play there again. read more

The course is in great shape and a lot of fun. Tour pros would struggle on their greens. Lots of undulation and extremely fast. I saw a twilight of $31 and didn't realize that cart wasn't included. Don't pay over $60 for this course but this is coming from a Virginia Boy that would never pay $75 for a round of golf. read more

Beautiful course, very nice and friendly staff! Drinks are a bit pricey but tasty, saw the drinks cart go by about 3 times during the 18 holes. Our cart died and they brought us out a replacement promptly. Great gps in cart, how far to pin, to fly water, bunkers, etc and to green. read more

Played the course on April 20,2012. My girlfriend loves to play there because it is so woman friendly; no real long holes for her. A great plus. The greens were fast and smooth and consistent throughout. I played the gold tees and found it fun and challenging, a nice conbination. Loved the area and just being out there. Very nice experience. The layout is interesting except for the first hole which needs to be totally redone but other than that I am very pleased. Will play there again next trip down the coast. read more

The weather is super nice here, but the people are the complete opposite. My family and I came here with a family that owns a home here for Father's Day to play the short 12 hole course. The day was great and the course was fun, but that was only true after we stopped letting the extremely rude work staff ruin our day. We got there and needed to rent two sets of men's clubs and two sets of women's clubs to which the lady responded "We only have one set of woman's clubs and you're not allowed to share, but *ugh* I guess it's fine." So we thanked her and began our day when we were followed by the same Marshall to the first hole where she proceeded to scold us for having a big group at one hole (keep in mind it's Father's Day so we were playing as a family) and because my mom and I were sharing a set of clubs which she said was okay in the beginning. She continued to follow us and scold us throughout the course and chastise us for never having played before which I just found rude and disrespectful since we had paid to use the course and we weren't bothering anyone else. At the end of the day when returning our clubs, we apologized for mixing up some of the clubs between the two bags, but the young guy trying to put them back in their right place was just as rude as the first lady. As he was being taciturn and short with us he was overly nice and brown nosed with the regulars that went in and out of the club. I just found the workplace of this establishment extremely mean and honestly stressful on a day when I was simply trying to relax with my dad and family. The only reason I would return is because we have friends who live here, but even though they live on the course I would be more excited to drive elsewhere to find a more friendly staff. As another reviewer said, it is a pain to get to. But once you arrive, you should be very pleased. I played April 20. Starter gave me a discount because it was a referral from Cypress Ridge, which was booked. I was happy about that! I absolutely love the layout. Not knowing the course, I followed the lead of the other regulars I played with and did okay, aside from hitting lousy shots! I thought the first tee was beautiful, with these mounds in the middle of the fairway. Make it past the mounds with your opening drive and you have a nice approach. The greens were definitely tough, but I attribute that to not having played the course, plus I can't read a green. :( The course has some beautiful views and most fairways are lined with large trees. This course looks like it was just carved out of the forest. The other players told me the area is mostly a retirement community and it was really nice. Many houses lined along a lot of the holes. I will definitely play this again. read more
