What a beauty. Such a serene place to walk and explore nature. Many eucalyptus trees, butterflies, and the temperature was just right. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a sweet escape. The club has live bands on Sunday!! A special addition to my visit

First time playing this course. Had a voucher from Under Par: Otherwise may not have played it. Voucher indicated we had to play after 11. We went out as a twosome behind a few Other twosomes. Got around the course in 4 hours without much waiting. Would have been even faster but we lost several balls in the debris off The fairways. The course itself is challenging . We had to shoot over trees and between trees. We didn't get much carry due to strong winds. I was disappointed that management has clearly decided not to put much money or effort into keeping the course maintained. Fairways were Riddled with clover which prevented much roll. Hole markers were very rough, peeling paint. Lots of tree debris around the greens and under The trees. It's a shame because this was probably a very nice course at one time. I would play it again. Great help in the bar and live music on the patio.

Tee area on the 2nd hole at Canyons, where the heck is the fairway?

A beautiful layout with some dramatic holes, we played the Canyons & Lakes. Unfortunately the course conditions were horrible. Tons of gopher holes, thick bumpy fairways, and a simple lack of mowing and easy maintenance. New owner definitely pinching pennys on maintenance. Greens were in good shape though.

Outside the snack bar overlooking the first Tee box.

Live music Sat and Sun, pretty back patio, nice food and drink specials. Lovely place to spend an afternoon. I don't know much about golf but it's fun to hit balls at the range and locals love the course.

Amazing golf course tucked away in Nipomo, near Pismo and SLO. This course consists of a driving range and three 9-hole courses with a good mix of Par 3, 4 and 5. I found the courses to be well maintained and fun to play. At the turnaround is an awesome bar that serves up delicious drinks and amazing food. The tritip sandwich is a MUST. They have the tritip cooking on the grill on weekends---the smell permeates the air with the most delicious smokiness. The spiked Arnold Palmers are only $4, which is a steal compared to the other clubs I frequent. I also appreciate that on weekends they have someone driving a cart around serving ice cold beers and mixed drinks made to order. It really takes the edge off when you are stuck in the sand bunker for three strokes. I found service here to be friendly and helpful. The course does not get too busy and the marshalls are really good about making sure people are playing in an efficient manner. I look forward to revisiting anytime I am back in the area!

Par 5, 6th, Lakes. Course is in fine shape

Great golf course. Very chill. The restaurant is also very good. There are three separate nine whole courses, which makes it very fun.

This at one time was a beautiful course, it has really gone downhill. Poor maintenance is probably the hallmark of this course today.

As a last-ditch effort, we stopped at Dolphin Bay around 2 AM hoping for a room. Jacob at the front desk completely turned our night around. He jumped into action, got us settled quickly, and went above and beyond to take care of us despite our unexpected arrival. His level of service was incredible. We woke up the next morning to a stunning ocean view and realized we had stumbled into something special. What started as one of the worst travel experiences quickly became one of the best. The one-bedroom suite was incredibly spacious, the food was delicious both at the restaurant and through in-room dining (we tried both), and everything arrived quickly without long wait times. The valet team handled everything with care and urgency, and every employee we encountered was attentive and genuinely seemed to enjoy being there. What stood out most was the General Manager, Erica. She was everywhere -- helping at the front desk, assisting guests, in the restaurant, at the pool, even parking cars -- all with a smile on her face. That kind of leadership is rare, and it clearly shows in the culture of the entire staff. Even though the property was fully booked during our stay, it never once felt crowded or chaotic, and the staff never seemed behind or overwhelmed -- which says a lot about how well this place is run. This trip was especially meaningful for us because it was one of the rare times we've traveled without our six kids -- and the entire time we were there, we kept saying how we can't wait to come back with them and make this our new family vacation spot. We're beyond grateful for this experience and will absolutely be back.

The dining was memorable, with hearty breakfasts and delicious three-course dinners. The french onion soup and steaks were standouts. What's most surprising is how transported you feel-you forget you are in California. Visiting in December was especially enjoyable during the slower season and pairing the trip to town for Julefest made it even more special. Highly recommend!

You can't miss the huge "Coffee" sign visible from the highway. We recently had to drive said route and decided to finally visit. And we were happy we did. Cuyama Buckhorn serves tasty American dishes from biscuits and gravy to burgers. It was lunch, so we had the burgers. Very good! We tried the apple pie as well and it was nice. We stopped by again on the way back home for some coffee. Good stuff. Not a fan of the matcha drink ( but too much milk) Great location for travelers, friendly service. Fun diner vibe. If you're traveling via the 166, definitely stop, have a coffee and a bite to eat.

The drive out was lovely, with lots of yellow broom blooming on the hills. We passed the Firefighter Monument that my husband tends that commemorates the firefighters killed in the Spanish Ranch fire, and checked out the growth of some oak trees around it. We pulled in for an early lunch at the Buckhorn and got a nice booth near a window. We were waited on immediately and provided water and a new menu with more of an emphasis on breakfast dishes. It was early lunch for us, and I ordered my favorite "Breakfast Salad," a Cobb salad, which has bacon and egg in it. My husband got the pulled pork sandwich, a specialty of the place. There was a delay getting the wine menu, and my first choice had run out, so I tried a white that was close to a Sauvignon Blanc from a local vineyard. I had spied some very authentic looking apple pie coming in, and we ordered a slice for desert. It came with a couple of scoops of creamy ice cream, and had a sure-enough baked through crust with juicy, cinnamony apples inside! On the way to the car, we noticed a local rancher "branding" the building, by pushing his heated up brand into the front wall of the restaurant where many other brands appeared. The paint smoked a bit, and when he was done, a spade appeared on the facade, "Spade Ranch," he told me, literally making his brand relevant to the cafe! We reveled in the beauty of the ride back, appreciated out step back in time into the history of this beautiful valley.

My husband Matt B. turned 43 last month, and we celebrated with a weekend in Los Olivos, staying…read moretwo nights in The Inn at Mattei's Tavern. It was a wonderful grown-up getaway, our kids stashed with my mom in another country. Relaxing and deeply enjoyable, with great accommodations and lots of wine. One thing to note, for those booking online--there's a shady website that paid Google for higher placement in the search results than the actual hotel website, and if you book through them, they will charge you hundreds of dollars in excess fees. I fell for this stupid trap and was lucky to get my money back before rebooking through the hotel site and permanently switching my search engine to DuckDuckGo. The Inn at Mattei's Tavern is expensive enough to begin with. It's a very nice hotel, but I didn't think the price point was quite justified--maybe we got squeezed because there was a wedding on the property during our stay and we weren't part of the block. The $60 resort fee is also ridiculous. All that said, it was a lovely hotel, and easily the most high-end in the small town of Los Olivos. Mattei's Tavern has a long history, going back to 1886, when it was a popular stagecoach stop. The hotel's aesthetic leans accordingly western--a little horsey, a little ranchy, with cowboy hats for sale in the lobby shop. It is also, though, a modern California luxury hotel, expensively renovated in the not-too-distant past. The staff was friendly and helpful, both over the phone and in person. We were eligible for an upgrade if available because of a random Mercedes Benz partnership (I drive a Mercedes), but I guess there wasn't one, likely because of the wedding. The Mercedes promotion was good for a $100 food and beverage credit, which we redeemed at the Tavern, the hotel's excellent restaurant. We also enjoyed welcome drinks at check-in, made with whiskey, ginger, and lemon, and soft caramels that came with turndown service. We took home a complimentary bottle of Presqu'ile wine, from a vineyard in Santa Maria. This was in addition to the many wines we purchased at local tasting rooms over our brief stay, which a hard-working bellman helped us schlep out of our room. We got a patio king studio, and it was clean, comfortable, roomy, and attractive. There was a small living area that wasn't especially useful. The fireplace was cool, and I liked that it could be used inside the room or on the patio. There was a pool, which maybe started to justify the resort fee, and we visited our first morning to relax before heading out to drink wine. The vibe was pleasant, a lot of adults chilling quietly with books. If you travel fancy and want to visit Los Olivos, The Inn at Mattei's Tavern is the place to stay. We had a wonderful time in this cute, walkable, wine-soaked town, and hope to come back again soon.

The property itself is stunning, luxurious but warm, with a relaxed wine-country feel that makes it easy to settle in whether you're there for work or leisure. The rooms are beautifully done with a modern farmhouse style: tasteful décor, high-end fixtures, and really solid furniture that feels both comfortable and thoughtfully chosen. Everything was clean, well maintained, and felt upscale without being over the top. It was the kind of room you actually look forward to coming back to after a long day. Food was another highlight. Every meal was consistently great well prepared, flavorful, and clearly made with quality ingredients. It made the whole retreat experience feel elevated without being formal or stiff. The staff deserves special mention. Everyone I interacted with was incredibly kind, professional, and attentive. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and created a very welcoming atmosphere throughout the stay. And a fun bonus: they had four Mercedes vehicles available for use. I ended up driving all four during my stay, which definitely added to the overall experience and convenience. Overall, The Tavern at Los Olivos delivered on every level comfort, style, service, and location. Whether you're planning a work retreat, a weekend getaway, or just want a luxurious place to stay in wine country, this place is absolutely worth it. Would happily return.
