Indeed, the course is under repair management but you can't deny the greenskeepers work of the overall layout of this whole facility. It's huge and it's beautiful. Just playing 9 feels rewarding. Greens look great fairways need work but that will come in time. Enjoyed it worth every cent. Friendly little course surrounded by homes and wooded areas. It consists of separate 9 hole courses that can be played in various combinations. It was a fun layout, friendly atmosphere and we were able to play as a twosome, therefore fast. The course conditions were not optimal, with overgrown fairways, clover and uneven greens. With better maintenance this would be a fine local course. We did enjoy some live music and a cold beer on the patio after the round. The people were friendly and everyone was having a good time. read more

The course is nicely situated in Nipomo but the course conditions were in poor shape. A lot of bald and brown spots. Some tee boxes had trees and brush in the visibility of the golfer. Without a yardage book or GPS, it made certain tee boxes a guessing game at where to aim. I can't say the fairways or greens were much better. Overall, a disappointment to play. The only enjoyable aspect was being able to play as a twosome with my son. A great bonding event. read more

First time playing this course. Had a voucher from Under Par: Otherwise may not have played it. Voucher indicated we had to play after 11. We went out as a twosome behind a few Other twosomes. Got around the course in 4 hours without much waiting. Would have been even faster but we lost several balls in the debris off The fairways. The course itself is challenging . We had to shoot over trees and between trees. We didn't get much carry due to strong winds. I was disappointed that management has clearly decided not to put much money or effort into keeping the course maintained. Fairways were Riddled with clover which prevented much roll. Hole markers were very rough, peeling paint. Lots of tree debris around the greens and under The trees. It's a shame because this was probably a very nice course at one time. I would play it again. A beautiful layout with some dramatic holes, we played the Canyons & Lakes. Unfortunately the course conditions were horrible. Tons of gopher holes, thick bumpy fairways, and a simple lack of mowing and easy maintenance. New owner definitely pinching pennys on maintenance. Greens were in good shape though. read more

It's time to visit again! If you haven't been here in a while or ever, you need to come here. The THREE 9 Hole courses are fun, each offering a different experience. You can mix and match the 3 courses to play an 18 and it will challenge you every time. The courses are very well taken care of. The greens are on point, with them being some of the best I have seen anywhere on the central course. They just redid the driving range! The putting area is fun for families to come and just putt around. At the end of hole 1 on the Lakes, there is another chipping/putting area, which I visit frequently. The pro shop staff is super welcoming and is always doing their best to accommodate you and your group with the best-golfing experience. Colby, the GM, is very hospitable and attentive to guests. He offers PGA pro lessons at a very reasonable cost. After just 2 lessons, I went from shooting over 100 to mid/high 80's You don't golf? That's fine. On Saturdays and Sundays (usually 1 PM - 4 PM) they have singers/bands come and play on the back patio. Plenty of chairs and spaces around the firepits if it gets chilly. They have a ping pong table, cornhole, and ample seating inside with multiple TV's going. The kitchen and bar are always put out excellent food and drinks/cocktails. They have killer burgers and fresh sandwiches that make you go 'ooooh' and 'ahhhh'. Their chicken wings are some of the best I have had. They have 8 ice cold beers on tap, multiple canned drinks, several white and red wines, and a FULL bar! Best yet, Happy Hour DAILY from 2:30-Close (5 PM ish). $2 off any draft beer, wine, or hard alcohol. SAY WHAT??!! So it's time to come back here and see what I am talking about. read more

Played Canyon- Oaks nines. We spend a weekend in Pismo once a year and try to get in at least one round of golf. Generally we play Cypress Ridge or Avila Beach. We decided to give this golf course a try. Actually, to call it a golf course is an insult to golf courses. Its more of a cow pasture littered with gopher holes. I have had smoother rides rock hoppin in my jeep than driving the cart in the middle of these "fairways". Three holes in, we had to switch to colored balls because we were having trouble finding the white ones amidst all the white flowery weeds in the fairways. I'm sure that at one time this was a beautiful course, but not at this time. I wouldn't waste my time and money here again. read more

Played there Sunday June 9 with a small 11 teams tournament. This was the worst golf experience I have ever had. Apparently the Blacklake men's club had a tournament right ahead of us and requested the pens be pu in the worst places possible. On hills and sometimes to find a hill the flag would be only two feet on the green. If the ball didn't go in the cup it would roll 5 to 7 feet away in most cases. I was in the second group of our 11 and on our 10 th hole when we were teeing off 4 teen walkers were on the tee box waiting to hit after us and I had to go to the pro shop so they stopped them. As it turned out I saw that two groups not in our tournament got in the middle of it anyway. The fairways seemed like they weren't mowed in weeks. Golfers and squirrels have taken over a lot of the course and there were holes everywhere. This is the first time I have ever written a review but the entire round was so pathetic I had too. Amazing golf course tucked away in Nipomo, near Pismo and SLO. This course consists of a driving range and three 9-hole courses with a good mix of Par 3, 4 and 5. I found the courses to be well maintained and fun to play. At the turnaround is an awesome bar that serves up delicious drinks and amazing food. The tritip sandwich is a MUST. They have the tritip cooking on the grill on weekends---the smell permeates the air with the most delicious smokiness. The spiked Arnold Palmers are only $4, which is a steal compared to the other clubs I frequent. I also appreciate that on weekends they have someone driving a cart around serving ice cold beers and mixed drinks made to order. It really takes the edge off when you are stuck in the sand bunker for three strokes. I found service here to be friendly and helpful. The course does not get too busy and the marshalls are really good about making sure people are playing in an efficient manner. I look forward to revisiting anytime I am back in the area! read more

Played Blacklake last week for the first time in a LOT of years -- excellent course! We used our KSBY Golf Card (7 courses, $85), so the only expense beyond the card was a cart for $17. We played Lakes and Canyon: the former was in great shape, the latter in decent condition. Courses are challenging enough, and laid out well. Staff were all friendly and engaging. this golf course just gave me really bad vibes and in turn I played like crap along with all of my friends. just a really poor vibe and mood in general. I will add that the golf carts were very comfy and fun to drive. also had a very pretty view. I would also like to add I do not personally like to pay three dollars for ice with Pepsi. From beginning to end was blessed to have my daughter's wedding at this amazing place. Krissy was our "go to" contact for everything and she did a wonderful job. She was kind, attentive and had perfect follow through. The location itself was just gorgeous. Everything just fell into place and when we had a little ripple with the late Pastor they just kindly pushed things back and kept rolling. Food was delicious and affordable. Service was amazing! A hidden gem in Nipomo, California. Tucked away in the Blacklake community you'll find three challenging 9 hole course layouts. The canyon, The oaks and the lakes. Where experience players enjoy a challenging terrain and well manicured greens. Although the lakes lack water, The Oaks course is lined with poison "oaks" so keep it in the fairway. No pun intended. This course is very poorly maintained for paying $91 for a round. I had family in town and they wanted to play a nice course and it was terrible... The guy in the pro shop was rude and we talked to another guy after the round and he was rude as well... Tee boxes were very uneven and the grass was dead in a lot of spots. The same with the fairways. The greens weren't that bad. The pictures online are VERY deceiving, VERY VERY patchy... looks nothing like them. I guess the best part of the day was the dry hot dog buns. DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE if your looking to play somewhere nice. Especially for $91... go play Morro Bay, Cypress Ridge, or Monarch Dunes... In town for one week. Just showed up as a single at 7AM and they got me out as if I had had reservation T time. Played the lakes and Canyon. Excellent course. Lakes is wide open but the canyon is more challenging. I highly recommend this course for anyone here golfing. read more

A buddy and I played on Saturday - a beautiful day, it was, with gentle winds and partly cloudy skies. As mentioned in other reviews, BlackLake is three 9 holes, and, each one is pretty good. Other reviewers complained about the fairways, roughs and tee boxes, though, I had no complaints with any of it. As a matter of fact, each hole (we played Lakes and Oaks) was very well kept. Trying to find the place was a little difficult since there are no signs at all, from Nipomo to the course. No biggie, we eventually found our way. As for the greens fees, they were very affordable - $30 including a cart. Way cheaper than in the Bay Area. I didn't eat any of the snack food, so, I have no opinion. They were bbq-ing tri-tip, chicken and ribs on our first turn - smelled delicious. Cheap green fees, nice layout, quiet locale will draw me back. $20 for 6 Corona's I thought was a bit steep, but, my buddy said that's normal for a Golf Course. At least I am not much of a beer drinker. Ya feel me? read more

I'm disappointed with how Blacklake has maintained the course. It has definately gone down hill. The fairways are not as lush as they were, and the greens are not as true as they should be. With Cyprus Ridge and Monarch Dunes nearby, Blacklake needs to do some serious upgrades to attract more players. UPDATE 11/25/2010: I was contacted by the General Manager Mike Brabenec, and he assures me that substantial improvements have been made. I'm happy for this information, and will definitely play the course again soon. It's a beautiful setting and I like the 3 nine courses. read more

The course is really beautiful and a challenge. Three different nine hole courses, each with a unique personality. Even more important, the people working here are so nice! The food in the restaurant is great and the prices are sure right. They know how to make drinks also. Golf courses usually have good food and drink, but Blacklake is really good. My group and I chose Blacklake for our weekly golf outing thanks to a great deal they offered on Groupon. We normally play north county but decided to trek down to Nipomo because of the value and their affiliation with Avila, which we played last week and really liked. The course was great, and the 3x9 hole layout was perfect since each course really has a distinct look, feel, and challenge from the others. The greens felt a little on the slow side, which is great for us since we need forgiveness wherever we can find it. I wanted to also give a special shout out to Jaime in the bar. He was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Everyone in my group works in hospitality so it's nice to be on the other side of it & receive fantastic service on our days off. Thanks Jaime! For their food at the snack bar.. 3.5 stars We happened to come here yesterday to see my cousin on his retreat (part of their plans for their last day) and we stumbled into the snack bar to have a few drinks and appetizers. We ordered two Orange Julius', two Sunset at Black Lakes and one Black Lake Mai Tai for the alcoholic drinks and one grilled chicken salad, one chicken tenders basket that came with fries and a salad, and their pulled pork sandwich special for the day that came with fries and coleslaw. The salad was standard and the chicken tenders were large in portion and had a unique flavor to them due to the rosemary in the batter. I actually enjoyed the flavor.. it was not salty nor too flavorless. It went well with ranch. I didn't have a taste of the pulled pork sandwich but it came on a cheese bun and it looked like it was barbequey in taste, which is not a flavor I'm too fond of. Only a 1/4 was eaten of the sandwich and we took home the rest. The bill came out to $82 and some change due to ordering a few non-alcoholic beverages as well.. so it seemed everything was slightly priced a bit higher due to the snacks coming from a golf resort. It wasn't that great of a resort from my perspective but I sure believe the service was excellent and quick! She manned the entire place for awhile very well and I wasn't disappointed with the basket I ordered. :) Don't know when I'll ever come back as we happened to come here only to visit someone.. but I wouldn't steer people away from this place. It's a nice low-key golf course that isn't too uppity up like at some other places. read more

Oh boy. This course is an utter disappointment. First off, I would be less scathing if the prices weren't where they were. THE COURSE: The first thing I noticed is that you cannot tell the difference between the rough and the fairway from the tee boxes. The course grass is very poorly maintained with many dead patches all over the course and copious weeds to compliment. The sand traps have small rocks in them. The tee boxes are either overrun with weeds or covered with dead grass. The cart paths are laughable and there are no cart restrictions around the greens so the course is entirely tracked with tire marks. The only thing the course had going for it was the greens. They were in good condition compared to the fairways. THE PRO SHOP: Impolite staff coupled with a poor layout. THE CANTINA: Two deli sandwiches cost $20 and it took them 10 minutes to make them. At the turn, I had to seek someone out to purchase a beverage. I meant it, I seriously had to walk into the kitchen area to find someone to sell me a beverage after I waited for a couple minutes. Ridiculous. THE RANGE: Laughable. If this course was a municipal course, the upkeep would make more sense. But Black Lake bills itself as a golf "resort" and is among the priciest courses in San Luis Obispo County. The condition of this course is absolutely unacceptable and it should be avoided altogether. read more
