I shall gate keep no longer and let everyone in on not only what/where my number one fav Indian joint is but why. So let's go! It's a food truck. Yup, a food truck off E. 6th in downtown Austin TX pumping out the Indian food of my dreams. Confession Session: I have never personally visited said food truck or been to this location. But every single visit to ATX includes me ordering Madras Dhaba delivery to my hotel. Turn around time has always been rather quick and accurate. So what are my go-to orders? They are their delish and slightly spicy two piece samosa, their paratha, and saag paneer. This place has odd hours, apparently closed on Wed, and I typically will order on Thurs nights. I have found that their menu offerings can vary depending on when you're ordering. On a Tues they didn't have Saag Panner on the menu so I opted for Panner Tiki Masala, still delish but not as good as that Saag Panner. Also their rice is S O good! I've recently found myself also ordering their Panner Tikka Tacos and yes...those have now become an absolute staple that I feel inclined to include in every order. Don't you judge me. I have also had their Veg Biriyani and was satisfied with that as well. TBH I have legit never been disappointed with anything I have had from Madras Dhaba. The flavors, the portions, the price. They all come together and create what I have previously described as my fav Indian joint. Will I end up visiting in person, I would hazard a guess and say yes, some day I will actually eat at the food truck. But until then, you can find me ordering delivery from them and having way too much food that is way too good to be as cheap as it is at my hotel. That's it. That's the review.

My second favorite might now be the one at Pav Bhaji Express, an unassuming food truck right along I-35. They offer a thecha Vada pav, which uses thecha in lieu of classic pudina hari chutney. Thecha is a classic Maharashtran condiment made from pulverising hari mirchi and spices. I've seen it more commonly as a side dish with other sabzis in Maharashtran ghar ka khana, but it's an excellent topping for Vada pav! I love the slight bitterness that the thecha adds to the sandwich. The only cure for an afternoon this hot was a cup of masala chai on the side. I didn't love the chai patti they used, but otherwise the ratio of milk was good.

They have seating option in front of food truck but it was so cold that mostly everyone was just picking up food and eating it in their car or taking it as to-go. We got rosemary chai and orange pistachio chai. For the quantity, the $4 price is decent for a full cup of tea. Both flavors were good, I personally liked the Rosemary a little bit more but my husband preferred orange as that was very unique. Vada pav was SUPER fresh. Not oily at all and not made on burger bun. Overall very good hangout place. Couple of parking spots near by. Dog park right next to it. I may try other snacks items next time

There were no clear indication on the prices and spice level nor were we informed or asked about the spice level My order: Veg Momo Chilli Momo The Chilli Momo (as the name suggested) was extremely spicy , at the dangerous level, so they should have let us know. I did love the dish other than the spice levels! the side sauces were spicy too. Having a veg momo on the other hand was making me feel better. I might have to go prepared the next time and ask more probing questions. It is not nice to not display the price along with the menu. You will be only loosing customers with this kind of experience!

Small, soggy exterior, mushy filling with subpar flavor. Didn't taste any turmeric or cumin, no potato, just not good. We love samosas and we hate wasting food, but we had to throw the rest away. I had the malai kofta, my regular dish, and the gravy was delicious and the dumplings were well seasoned and balanced with the sauce. The naan was outstanding, thin and perfect balance between chewy and crispy. My partner had the special chicken curry and they loved it. The portions are a bit smaller than other places, but they do charge less too, so that may be why. Overall the flavors are good and I'd recommend giving them a try if you're nearby.
