This place is lit and full of lights on their ceiling. They have lots of tables, a huge bar for the cheaply priced drinks downtown and great happy hour menu. They have an area for a band and a good selection on the juke box. The bathroom is pretty big towards the back of the bar. Great place to hangout after work with friends and catch up. read more

I was sad when this bar fell through because the Christmas decor looked so cute! They doubled cover at the door when our group approached. When asked why they doubled it when it was originally $5, they said it was because it was after 9:30 PM. It was 9:20 PM. When one of my friends pointed it out, the bouncer got rude & defensive. I've seen many reviews of the rude bouncers and it's sad they haven't at least tried to be nice to potential customers, especially when unprovoked. We ended up going to the Red Head Piano Bar a block or two away and the service was much more pleasant. Some of my friends like to go to Mom's Place during the week for happy hour, so I recommend going then instead of the weekend night! read more

What a Dump. We came here after eating at Tao. This place doesn't deserve to be on the same block as Tao. The service was terrible. We went there for the live music. We were sat in a back room with no live music. We were then forgot about back there. We stayed about 2 hours. We only got 1 drink and 1 app in that whole 2 hours. Plus the name is very offensive to any moms place. A real moms place is a place everyone wants to go to. To have a great meal, to have great service, and to have that homey vibe. um this place is just OK. It has that divy feel to it. Some of the people behind the bar were kind of moody. But I am a brave guy and I will be back for karaoke on the weekends. The food is good. Drinks were great and place was nice. A group of us, mostly BIPOC, went for karaoke night. There wasn't a standard for who was able to sing. Our group was mostly passed up by predominantly white patrons even after tipping the DJ generously. The result - it was a very white patronage. They really need to consider how they are or are not creating a welcoming space for more diverse clientele. read more

This place is awesome! Good vibes and a fun crowd! All the employees were awesome and encouraging to everyone who sang karaoke. JR was so great at tending to everyone and made the best drinks and was really easy to talk to! Plus the fries were bomb. read more

Always a Great time at mom's Place, located in River North right off the airborne street. This fun little festive bar has outdoor and indoor seating as of right now with Covid.. social distancing is enforced here, so the patio seating fills up pretty quick, especially during the daytime and starting early evenings. The food is amazing and I recommend some onion rings, quesadillas, and the burgers are made with love. The service here has always been pretty excellent every time I've been, and I had a great experience with a server the other day who had been there for seven years, to me that says a lot if she's been there that long. They used to have karaoke but I know right now entertainment is limited. read more

We were terriblly treated there. 1) there was a private party happening for which we were invited, but they seemed to not like to many noisy people and excited people, 2) they were never welcoming, almost felt like 20 people joininy on Monday was like bad for business instead of being welcoming for foreign latinos coming to the city; 3) dont go there, just not an welcoming place at all. Music guy was an absolute rude dude. He told us we were second in line, then we l waited another 45 min or so. After checking in, he said he made a mistake and we were 22nd in line and not 2nd... seemed pretty convenient. After waiting another hour, we checked in again and he told us we could move up one place in line for a $20 tip... talk about great customer service! We were told that there was karaoke when we arrived there was a live band, but no karaoke discussed with our group what we wanted to do and immediately an employee came up and was extremely rude demanding us to leave unless if we bought some thing mindfully, we had only been in the establishment for less than five minutes I wholeheartedly would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more

It's one of my favorite bars in the city. Sort of a New Orleans/ Southern paced bar in Chicago with live music up front on most days, but then karaoke in the back along with a bar downstairs with a pool table if open. So options abound. The Staff is friendly, sort of a family atmosphere labor of love between them. It's a relaxed place with a be who you are come as you are attitude. Under rated fries, I think they call them "Scooper" but they are non-uniform cut but not overly thick like steak fries so they get crispy and carry salt perfectly. Don't sleep on the top shelf whiskey either, it's not a huge collection but they have some harder to find bottles at better than most Chicago bar prices. read more

I have never used Yelp for a negative review before, but I was very disappointed in this place. The security/bouncers were extremely rude and got physically pushy with several of the patrons there. Listen, I'm not usually one to leave negative reviews because I know at the end of the day, people are just trying to run a business. But I draw the line when my friends are getting bullied in a bar and the staff jumps in and almost encourages it. There were at least two other patrons of this bar that commented on my male friend carrying a bag or "a purse" in a negative, dare I say, homophobic way . And when it was brought up again, the bartender chimed in. My male friend and some of my other friends got kicked out. I'll admit that they were not reacting with a level head, but what did you expect them to do when they were getting harassed over a bag???? The ambiance was not very welcoming and neither was the staff. I just hope that after tonight, the people that run this place will learn that this is a CHICAGO BAR and everyone should be welcome, despite sex, gender, sexuality, race, etc. I shouldn't have to drag my friends out because they need to defend each other against a bartender who is close minded. I am unsure what to think of this place. The inside is fine, I had been inside when it was one of Stan Wozniak's places. They didn't have karaoke going on when I was inside. It was probably a Wednesday night after happy hour. It was pretty empty. On special they had an old fashioned. Well, it was awful. I should have known better that to order an old fashioned from a place like this. They put too much ice, it tasted very weak and watered down. I could barely finish it. Bouncer was an asshole to my friend for no reason. Terrible service I would not recommend.

I went in and had a good time at first, I hit my vape and got bitched out. Was totally understandable about it and instamatly apologized about it and said it won't happen again bc I'm from an area where it's normalized. I went up to the security that said something to me and apologized again for doing it and that I didn't know and he continued to yell at me even tho I went out of my way to apologize. I've been to mom's place before and have had good experiences. Typically this is my go-to in River North. This time the person in charge of taking requests for karaoke songs on (12/1/22) particularly put a bad taste in my mouth which will lead me to avoiding the bar in the future. The song I requested wasn't available on their library which I totally get but when we went on stage (waited for an hour... was so looking forward to sing ONE SONG) it was a the wrong song and when questioned she became very defensive, rude and ruined my night :(. Enough to place this review. I know this won't stop people from coming but perhaps you can let staff know to be a little nicer to people who are nice too read more

Was out of town and went here with coworkers on a Thursday night. It was super fun, lit, and Karaoke makes it a great time. FYI come no earlier than 11pm if you like it a crowded scene - and if you don't then come whenever but also there's a karaoke + bar area in the back and bar + stage for live performers when you first walk in. If I could give a lower rating I would. The bouncer in front was great but the one with the ball cap stopped my friend from dancing on the dance floor. Asked if he'd had enough to drink (which he had one in the back). The bouncer seemed to not like a male that could just shake it. the bartender in the back confused his card for another and then proceeded to ignore him for 20 minutes because he tried to tell her she was giving his card to someone else. Awful service The owner replied that it was a busy room but didn't take the time to talk to the bartender. He literally told her that she was giving his card to someone else and she took it as an insult so to be petty she kept his card for 20 minutes because she was petty. As for the getting complaints for bumping, that was the first time he started dancing and the girls next to us kept bumping us. Absolutely wrong and the owner doesn't know how to own up to mistakes. read more

Mom's Place is my place. It should be your place too (even though I'm starting to get territorial about it haha). But seriously, I love this place. Happy Hour specials run from 4-7pm. The best-kept secret in Chicago is their Monday $5 burger and fries deal. It's amazing. So good in fact, it feels a little wrong to only pay $5 but we'll keep that between us. On top of all their great specials, they've also got a good rotation of live music coming through, Bingo, board games, and a friendly staff. You know that old saying "mom knows best?" Place was cool but we went on karaoke night and put our name down for a song and waited for 3 hours and never got called up. The lady running karaoke openly says you have to bribe her to get a song played the tip jar actually says "bribes". If you're hoping to have a good karaoke night I wouldn't go to this place if you're looking to sing. read more
