We were left our hotel in search of breakfast and saw this little place, moms. We decided to try it out and we are so glad we did. We went in and there are several small tables and one table right in the front window with a bar top if you so choose. The service was great. They took our order and before we knew it we had a hot breakfast delivered. The eggs were perfect. Great potatoes and sausage. Wheat toast. What more could you ask for. Everything was great. The 2 person staff worked well together and made the experience great. I would recommend Moms to everyone looking for a great breakfast. On a recent visit to Mom's Kitchen I experienced a wonderful meal. Let me explaine. We started with a hand crafted, home made, cinnamon roll. It was big enough to share with my companion and was a delight for my taste buds. I followed it with a veggie three egg omelet which I couldn't finish. It was a lot of food for the price and really did taste like my sweet Momma had made it. All the weight staff were good but our waitress, Amy, kept our drinks refilled, gave us updates on our meal,and charmed us with her friend personality. Terrible. Sorry Mom; not sorry. Really not good. They should rename it: "Mom's Dysfunctional Dump". Two thumbs, 8 fingers, 10 toes down. Location, across from our hotel seemed ok until the dead fish smell hits you in the face. We waited 45 minutes to sit outside/outback. Only to find it looked like a homeless shelter so we waited another 10 for indoor. Then another 45+ for 'not good' food. How do you struggle that badly with eggs? Juice was room temp. We got 4-5 potatoes on our plates, (weird and cheap). No A/C? Huh? The cooks barked at each other, (and the help), incessantly. Topping it off, my husband noticed our goofy, anxious & awkward waitress, (Amy?), overcharged us. We had breakfast at Zeke's and Charlie's during our stay - better options to say the least. The waitstaff were super kind and liked to joke around and the food was really good. We had the grilled coffee roll (basically a cinnamon bun) which was delicious but will give you a sugar coma. Eleanor,David and staff serve up THE BEST scratch made buttered Griddled Blueberry Muffin especially when paired with their overly generous heaping Haddock Fish Chowder in what can only be described as a "bowl of goodness". This is the ultimate breakfast. Everything is cooked fresh and the ingredients are top notch. Cinnamon rolls are to die for. Corn muffins are amazing. We went back the second day of our visit because it was so delicious. The staff is the friendliest and nicest. If you're returning there hoping to find a reboot of Tuckers Farm, you might be disappointed. You won't find huge portions or pancakes the size of your plate here and the price is on the higher side. The place is VERY small. However, the food was good. There was nothing wrong with it. It just wasn't crazy special and there's no shortage of amazing local breakfast places in Gloucester. I might return to try the sausage gravy at some point. It was very busy, even during the week. I couldn't imagine it on the weekends. I'm sure it'll do very well with the hotel being so close. Every time I come to Gloucester, we find something new. This is a good one. Located in what used to be a very quiet corner (on a road that I hadn't been on in forty years of visiting Gloucester), it is now well-situated near the Beauport. I perfect little mom and pop place for the locals, as the name suggests, you'll find a menu full of delicious and filling crowd-pleasers to enjoy before your Whale Watch or walk around beautiful downtown Gloucester. Went there as a "plan b" when getting to our usual breakfast spots was impossible due to beach traffic (side note: not hating on beach goers - it was a beautiful day and I don't blame any of you). Two breakfasts - 2 eggs, home fries, toast, coffee for both of us, with one side of bacon - was wicked reasonable - $14. Orders taken and food/coffee delivered in less time than it took to park. Eggs were perfect, coffee was decent, atmosphere was casual and easy-going. My only complaint was they seemed kinda stingy with the home fries....literally we each had less than one potato's worth on our plate. The only reason we went out for late breakfast instead of early lunch was because I wanted home fries, and I feel like we got gipped (jipped? gypped? I have no idea how to spell that word). I would recommend Mom's Kitchen, with the caveat that if you want the amount of delicious, salty fried potatoes you would get if you were actually in your mom's kitchen, order them as a separate side dish. read more
