I love this place for its freshness and variety. It doesn't give me a stomach ache like I get from other Indian buffet type style lunches. Everything feels clean and fresh and bright. Unfortunately, I do not like the Momos myself. At least not the chicken ones. There's some sort of seasoning in there that just didn't sit right with me and unfortunately I ended up tossing most of it. Clearly others like them so it may just be a personal preference. We don't order from Momo n Curry that often (maybe 3-4 times a year), but when we do the food is tasty. Especially their Butter chicken and Tikka Masala. There are many Indian restaurants in the area but when we decide to order Indian we usually order from here because it's the closest. I'm not sure if they changed management but we were very disappointed when we ordered this time around. They have changed their portion size and give you the food in the smallest of containers. There is hardly any protein that can fit into those containers. Just not a fan of restaurants being stingy with their protein. Will be going to another restaurant just a couple of minutes further down for our Indian food cravings next time around. read more

Clayton Road has been dying for some good food; it's finally here! I'd never heard of a Momo, but now I'm in love. The quality and taste of Sam's (the owner) food is absolutely unreal, not to mention his hospitality. The week they opened, we tried to go 4 times; however, we kept being told it would be an hour, even for take-out. We finally made it 10 minutes before opening last weekend, service was seamless. Here's a little insight: they make all their dishes "to order", meaning nothing is sitting around in batches. Every dish is literally crafted to perfection. So, please base your rating on quality and cleanliness, not the amount of time it takes. The Butter Chicken is, by far, my favorite. Next, the Saag Paneer. All entrees come with a side of rice, which is a nice portion. I've also had the Chicken Tikka Masala, Mutter Paneer, Steamed Chicken Momo, Deep-fried Veggie Momo, and plain naan. I think this is a new place that just opened up. I got the butter chicken (spicy), my friend got the chicken tikka masala (mild) and we got garlic naan. The food was really good but the butter chicken wasn't spicy. The service was really slow but there was only one person serving the food for all the tables. There was a woman folding napkins on the side, I thought she could have probably brought the food out. We had a wait for getting our menus and had to ask for our water to be refilled. I checked in on yelp and the offer was for a free ice cream. The server said that this shouldn't be valid anymore but honored it anyways. I think once they get more staff and the kinks worked out, this place will be amazing. *UPDATE* The owner was the one who had to step in to serve because his server called in sick. He took the time out of his day to message me and apologize for the delays. We need more restaurants like this! I will definitely be back to give this place another try. read more

Good to finally have an Indian restaurant in this vicinity. The highlight of the evening was pan fried momo which appeared to be deep fried rather than pan-fried. These were wrapped in very thin skin with very generous chicken filling and tasted very good. Prior to that, we tried samosa which had thin crispy skin and very fresh tasting. Naan was below average with rather thick and chewy texture (this may appeal to some who like them thick) and had some over-burnt bottoms but not really crisp on top. Tandoori leg quarters arrived in a huge serving but we found the meat slightly under seasoned (other than salt) and could have stayed in the oven a few minutes longer to char up more. Curry may be this restaurant's strong suit rather than tandoori so this is something we need to try in the future in lieu of tandoori. Service was good (they checked on us regularly) but our dinner lasted 2 hours (this was the restaurant's first week and the owner was gracious to offer complimentary drinks due to delay in serving). The food serving was sequential meaning that every table get served fifo including appetizers and entrees. Hopefully, they are able to figure out the kitchen logistics soon without compromising on quality. read more

The sauce that comes with the samosa is a slighty fruity sweet sauce and goes well with the samosa. Butter chicken was good but definitely helps to eat with rice or naan or the tandoori chicken for just a little more balance. Might not order the tandoori. Cooked well and not dry but not a whole lot of flavor. Definitely good if you want more protein to go along with some of the other dishes. Chai was well made. Loved the Shrimp Tikki Masala but the shrimp were a bit undercooked. Theycould have used 1-2 more minute of cooking. The Chicken Bhuna was excellent. I didn't like the Malai Kofta at all. The Naa was a tad dry. The Mango Lassi was delicious. I didn't like that when it was time to pay, the waitress stuck a machine in my face asking if and how much I'd like to tip. No itemized receipt. No final bill amount. No kidding. The tips are based on percentage so you have no idea of your bill or even your tip amount. This is my all-time favorite restaurant, truly. First of all, the samosas are the best I have ever had. While I am stuck on my favorites rotation (tarka dal, vegetable korma, onion kulcha, steamed vegetable momo), I can easily say I have absolutely loved everything I have tried from the menu so far. My daughter and I enjoy Indian food and since she has never been to Momo N Curry, I took her here during her Thanksgiving break. Momo N Curry is located on Clayton Road near Dunkin' and Shop Heroic. We were their first customers of the afternoon. The music was pretty loud and it didn't seem appropriate. Who wants to hear rave-like music while eating? Perhaps it would be more suited for a cocktail lounge or a bar. It just seemed a little strange for this restaurant. Anyway... Glasses of water and a basket of papadum was immediately brought to our table which was great. The papadum was nice and crunchy. They're very addicting! We opted for the lunch specials and shared a plate of chicken momos (steamed dumplings). I ordered the butter chicken and my daughter wanted the chicken tikka masala. Entrees include a side of rice. You are able to request whatever level of spice you'd like for your entree. The medium spice was perfect. Just the right amount of kick. The chicken momos are delicious, but this time around, they didn't seem fresh. They were less than warm in my opinion and the wrappers were on the chewy side like they were reheated. On other occasions, the momos were brought out hot. I could be wrong but I remember them tasting better the other times I ate here. When it was time to pay for our bill, the lady carried her little Square Reader or something similar to our table. It's weird that she just stood there waiting for me to pay. Stumbled upon this place on yelp when I tried to find an interesting place to eat in the Walnut Creek/Concord area. We tried the steamed momos and the Chilli momos! For the steamed ones, we asked if we could do a combo of vegetarian and chicken momos and they were happy to do it, which I thought was a very nice! The chicken momos were excellent in terms of taste. However, when it came to the vegetarian ones, I thought the texture and taste was slightly weird. I also got a chance to ask them what it was made of and they said it was a combination of soy and paneer. Interiors are clean and bright and the staff was very friendly. Overall, a decent experience. Our visit to Momo N Curry was A-OK, but I am a bit sad to give only three stars. Based on other reviews, we were expecting a five-star meal or no lower than a four-star. Service was friendly, but very slow and uneven on the weeknight that we dined in. DH's lamb entree arrived before either my entree or our chicken momos. When we asked about the momos, we were told our "steamed" momos were on their way. We pointed out that we had ordered them fried, so the order took even longer. But they were quite tasty. We had expected the momos as an appetizer. Perhaps that is our error. Are they are served as part of the meal and not as an appetizer? The naan was doughy -- a big disappointment. We did not finish it. The best part of the meal was my mixed grill: chicken tandori, chicken tikka, lamb roti, and tandori shrimp. Emphasis was on the chicken. Generous portion. I would have enjoyed more of the lamb and shrimp -- and more of the veggies, too. All in all a very flavorful dish. We both had a Taj Mahal lager which suited the food just fine. Wine is also available, but to our palates beer is a better choice with spicy food. The table setting made a good first impression with a colorful tablecloth and bright red cloth napkins. The cloth-covered menu was attractive, too. However, the lunch special menu which was on the table was dirty and worn. A few odd things: A few Christmas decorations were still on display in early June. With my back to the door, my view was less than desirable. I could see the set-up stations with water and tableware, required labor law posters, and the refrigerator/freezer that had many visits from kitchen staff. Too bad that area of the restaurant could not be blocked off by a screen or even a partial wall. To sum up: The food was good, but not what we consider outstanding. DH and I are still looking for an Indian restaurant in the Concord/Walnut Creek area that can become our "go to" place. (Our current favorite is in Carmel, so we only go there a couple of times a year.) We will give Momo N Curry another chance -- and hope the second time improves upon our first visit. read more
