I was 28 years old, had finished dental school and was running my own office. The stress had built up and my body was beginning to feel it. My doctor told me I had 6 months to get my blood pressure down or else I was looking at medications to control. Being 28 yrs old, I was discouraged I had the body of a 60 yr old. A patient of mine referred me to Fitness Together and within 2 months my back pain was gone. They adjusted my workout to build my core and counter the work related trauma I was causing by repetitive stress injuries related to dentistry. Moreover, by my 6 month appointment with my physician to check my blood pressure, I was back to 124/80. My doctor was shocked, as was I. I told her I was going to Fitness Together, but I wasn't sure how long I was going to continue. She put it to me this way, either you continue with Fitness Together or you end up on medication. But I was healthier, felt better, and more fit. I've been with them now for over a year, and highly recommend them. This note is over due, but last week I developed tendonitis in my right hand, and strained my right shoulder. John from Fitness Together again readjusted my workout and within a few days my shoulder was back to normal. I don't know how to thank them enough for all their help. Mina Joseph Kaddis, DMD

As a runner I was looking for a workout that would help me strengthen my running not only thru…read morerunning drills but also an all body workout. Plus coaches who were knowledgeable enough to help improve form and be supportive without trying to control very last thing. And I was looking for a gym/program/studio that had a community and actively fostered it. OTF Natick has been the perfect location and has the ideal team to give me what I need when I need it. It says something that members themselves have evolved into coaches who know the ins and outs of working thru a 60-minute workout. While the running drills on the treadmills are my 'bread and butter', it's the rower and the floor where I get the biggest benefit. The routines are varied day to day. Different focus and different personal challenges. You're never trying to keep up with the person next to you (although everyone I workout next to inspires me to go a little harder). The strength and endurance workout on floor and rower push me and improve me every time. By the time I get on a tread (I do this last to practice running fatigued), I'm warmed up and able to push myself that bit harder. Recent results? I've decreased my road miles from 20 to about 12 a week to do the OTF Transformation Challenge at the moment. So most runs are 1.5-2 miles in the 3G classes I typically do. Last Sunday participated in a 5M race I've done for the last 6 years. Beat my best time on the course by 15 seconds. That's the results from OTF Natick But what makes the studio hum is the energy that the coaches bring into every class. They have built (I've been a member there for 3 years and workout among many who've been regulars since the studio opened) a real community feel to every workout. There is the mingling pre-class, the class outline with what to watch for and highlights (and possible lowlights). In class warm up, station by station walk thrus and in-block encouragement. But what always amazes me is the way the coach spreads their attention to the details of every participants workout. Not by crowding in on an individual or calling people out from across the room. Just the subtle, quiet hint or tip on how to fix form or increase a challenge. Always encouraging. Always celebrating. The studio under Jam has elevated an already great atmosphere and community feeling to new levels - creating a communal atmosphere thru social channels (the recent Transformation Challenge Miles Logged week had people logging miles at all hours of the day in an effort to boost their team score) & notes of gratitude for staff and members alike in the studio lobby. If you're like me, you want a gym or workout that doesn't intimidate. That challenges you to your next best level. And that lifts you when you need it, celebrates when you win the smallest of achievements, and embraces you for who you are and what you bring to each class. That is what I've found at OTF Natick and with their top team of coaching and support staff.

First, you need to schedule your initial session with them and put your credit card on hold, and they will explain how everything works as well as provide you with a heart rate monitor. Orangetheory Fitness classes aren't walk in - you need to schedule them in advance. So if a class fills up when you're available, you're out of luck! They emphasize on workouts that are constantly changing, so no day is the same. (Although most group classes are usually that case). The day I went was a mix of rowing, weights and sprinting. During your workout, there's a screen up top that shows how your heart rate is doing compared to the rest of your class. The goal of the hour-long session is to have your heart rate reach the "Orange Zone", which maximizes your calorie burn. It was a good workout, but I think a little too expensive for me to continue. Even with the corporate rate, it was $99 for 8 workouts in a span of a month. Plus, you'd need to book it ahead of time. If you do book a session but is unable to make it/cancel in less than 24 hours, you'd still be charged with that session. I'd rather have the flexibility of walking into a session whenever I please. After the session, the sales team pushing for me to sign up. After I didn't, and left, I was bombared with voice messages and calls on trying to rope me into signing up again.. a little put-off by the aggressive sales. I can see why it's a popular activity and the whole competitive group feel of it, but I didn't quite enjoy OTF.

Hands Down the Best Workout in MetroWest…read more F45 Natick is exceptional. Every workout is expertly planned and easy to follow. Two motivating coaches really coach you during the workout, giving personalized, quality attention. And their positive attitude is incredible! Each coach knows your name. They greet you. They treat you like they're actually happy to see you because....they sincerely are. This attitude is contagious: people who train here actually high five each other. In the last 3 months, I've worked out here 30 times. While the workouts are intense, you're encouraged to do them at your own pace. And since the atmosphere is collaborative -- not aggressive or competitive -- all skill levels are welcome. You'll never feel judged. I've tried Orange Theory, Barry's and about 10 other gyms: the big difference is the skill of the coaches, and the fun HIIT workouts. They'll never put you on a treadmill for 30 minutes staring at a wall. Instead, you'll get dynamic, fun exercises fit to your skill level. The most important part of any gym or class is whether you will actually go. And training at F45 makes me want to go. These are very nice people and very good coaches. Highly recommend!

No real complaints about the gym other than the number of people sitting at machines scrolling…read moretheir phones "in between reps" I don't think the problem is over crowding as many people have complained about. Waiting for a machine while someone is literally sitting there watching videos is a problem. The problem has increased with teenagers there free for the summer. I asked if there could be a sign put up asking people to refrain from using their phones while sitting at a machine but was told they couldn't do that.

Obviously, this isn't working because it seems as if nothing has changed there in a long time. I get the fact that PF Natick is a franchise operation but why isn't PF Corporate getting involved to help??? The place is a mess and disorganized. Someone should take it seriously. Here's my updated review: I reviewed PF Natick about a year ago but since then, it's gone downhill. My main complaint has to do with the cleaning stations. Someone decided to remove some of them and reconfigure the whole setup. As a result, there is one paper towel dispenser and one bottle of cleaning solution for the entire weight machine area in the front. Then, to discard the paper towel, you have to walk to a waste basket in a different location. It makes no sense and in fact, it's leading to people to avoid cleaning the machines because it's too disorganized. Secondly, they installed some sort of small computer screens in the men's bathroom which are attached to each of the 3 faucets. These apparently are there to show ads, kind of like the screens you see at gas pumps. The only problem is that the screens interfere with hand washing. I go to PF Natick because it's closer to my house but I'm going to consider going somewhere else.

There are plenty of cardio options, classes, a spin studio, free weights, and a large selection of Hoist weight machines. It's actually the only fitness center I've been to in the area that has Hoist equipment. I'm still getting used to the machines, but so far, I like them. There's also a decent-sized stretching area and about 10 TV screens throughout the gym. I believe you can tune into the TV audio, although I haven't ventured down that path yet--I'm usually watching something on my phone or listening to music. The front desk staff is always friendly, and check-in is quick and easy. There are water fountains as well as bottled water available for purchase. The locker room is clean. While it's on the smaller side, they do have either a steam room or sauna--I'm honestly not sure which! There are a couple of showers and all the standard locker room amenities. One thing I like is that every locker has its own key attached to a stretchy wrist cord, so there's no need to bring a lock. In fact, you can't use your own. Crowds have been minimal during the summer, which has been great. I'm curious to see how busy it gets once summer ends and school is back in session. So far, Beacon Hill Athletic Club gets a 10/10 from me. Great atmosphere, solid equipment, friendly staff, and an easygoing feel. Highly recommend!

I've been a member of Beacon Hill Athletic Club (Wellesley) for three years, and the only reason I…read morecontinue to go is because it's convenient and there aren't many easy alternatives nearby. The biggest issue is that the equipment is badly outdated. Walking into the gym feels like stepping into the 1980s. The machines are old, the overall facility feels tired, and it is long overdue for a serious investment and refresh. The locker rooms are in a similar state, very dated and in clear need of renovation. To be fair, the club is clean. Extremely clean. In fact, the staff often seem more concerned with cleaning equipment than allowing members to use it. The constant wiping down and fussing over machines can feel excessive and, at times, genuinely strange. The atmosphere is also disappointing. Peter appears to have a group of favorite members and regularly has loud, bro-style conversations with them across the gym. These conversations often include inappropriate language that feels unprofessional in a fitness club setting. Another staff member, a younger guy, is consistently rude and seems to think the gym's sound system exists solely for his benefit. When he's working, members are subjected to some truly awful reggae playlists. Peter's music choices aren't much better, with a steady diet of jazz and 70s music that feels completely disconnected from what most people would expect in a modern gym. The overall impression is that the gym is run around the preferences of the staff rather than the members. Whether it's the music, the conversations, or the way the floor is managed, there seems to be very little thought given to creating an environment that is motivating and enjoyable for the people actually paying to work out there. The one saving grace is the woman who works at the front desk. She is consistently friendly, welcoming, professional, and genuinely customer-focused. She treats members with respect and clearly understands what good customer service looks like. Ironically, she also seems to have the best taste in music. Unfortunately, it's uncomfortable to watch how some of the other staff, particularly Peter, treat her. She deserves far better than the dismissive attitude she often appears to receive. For a club that charges premium membership fees, the facilities, atmosphere, and management approach simply don't measure up.

I have been coming to Hometown Sweat since they were in their old location on Huron Drive…read more Honestly, the vibe has changed since reopening in the new space. Not only is the heated room smaller, it smells ripe all the time, the staff are forgetful and sometimes moody, some of the patrons are rude, the continuous waitlists are annoying, and the "feeling of community" is all a farce. I enjoyed the Sculpt classes taught by Sami on Thursday mornings but due to my schedule, I had to resort to the noontime class taught by an instructor who is consistently forgetful. It has become a running joke among her students whether she's going to remember the right side plank or hydrant after completing the left side or vice versa. The biggest issue I take with this studio is this idea of community and their so-called studio rules. They are unwritten (but apparently are stated rules). If you ask an instructor about these unwritten rules, beware... you could be considered aggressive for asking...and have your membership canceled without even a conversation. What are these unwritten rules you might ask? Surprisingly, these unwritten but stated rules that everyone should know or be able to hear in a crowded room with blasting music and loud conversation is about the positioning of students in the studio when it gets crowded. Of course, this might seem obvious that one would stagger with their neighbor if they felt like there was any danger to oneself or the neighbor. But no...these unwritten rules state that the staggering is led by the person on the complete opposite side of the room. For example, if you have placed your mat in the farthest right corner of the room by the mirror, it is your job to follow the lead of a person on the complete opposite side of the room, someone you cannot see, especially given how crowded the studio is which is why there is staggering in the first place. This happened to me. Another class member came up to my mat at the end of class and confronted me because I did not follow the "rules" to give her daughter enough space. She yelled at me in the class and was very aggressive to me, telling me that she was going to have the instructor explain to me these "rules". After I cooled off on my mat, I found the instructor and asked her about these "rules". She informed me that these "rules" were unwritten but stated at the beginning of each class. I cannot remember ever hearing that these "rules"even existed, maybe because she might have forgotten to say them that day, maybe because I couldn't hear her over the music and the conversations that were happening, or maybe something else. But my asking clarification on these rules became an issue and rather than understanding the facts about the situation, the owner (who was not even present) left a voicemail that my membership was cancelled. I sent an email explaining my side and to express my disappointment about her lack of a thorough review of what happened from all parties , and asked her to provide a written explanation of the cancellation without a review. I also asked that "rules" should be written and not just stated. Not only was I the one who was treated aggressively by another member, but the owner's complete dismissal of their own community member without a thorough review negates the whole "community" that she sold us on, and to do it all over voicemail. She has yet to respond to my email, but left another voicemail. Who does that?
