So when…read morewe were making plans to meet up before a night out, it seemed like a pretty obvious place to start. I showed up around 5:00 and people were still drinking coffee. (Side note: who are these folks that can drink coffee that late?? If I attempted that, I wouldn't fall asleep until the following morning.) Anyway, I sat down and eventually realized I was meant to go up to the counter to order a drink. So that's exactly what I did, and I wound up grabbing a tasty, refreshing pint of beer. The vibe in Loveless is so laid back and easygoing, too. It's a really cool little place.

I went around 5pm on a weekday. Had a $10 martini (HH price), half dozen oysters, endive salad, French onion soup, and their crème brûlée... ate everything. Would have licked the plates. 1) it was a strong martini. Lovely 2) BEAUTIFUL oysters and I eat a lot of oysters 3) sweet and nutty endive salad. Crunchy from the nuts, crispy from the endives, sweet dressing with some chili flakes to wrap it all together. Didn't lick my plate, but I did lick my fork all the way to my fingers 4) hearty French onion soup. Wasn't too salty. Good amount of bread and cheese. Fabulous. Comforting 5) ended it all with crème brûlée. Not the smoothest, but they had vanilla bean in it and a nice crust on top, so I'm not complaining.

We arrived shortly after they opened, the aesthetic is eclectic and simple. The seating arrangements are comfortable and available indoors and outdoors. We both got their classic breakfast with double smoked bacon; I opted for a beer ginger drink and my friend ordered a chai latte with oat milk. She really enjoyed her drink, and it was a decent size. Whereas my beer and ginger juice was delicious yet on the small side, especially since ice cubes took up a lot of space. As for the meal itself, the eggs with crème fraîche was out of this world! They were the most delicious eggs I've ever eaten. I wish the portion was slightly bigger. The double smoked bacon was perfectly cooked and not greasy. It was thick and not overly salty. They fill up the rest of the plate with 3-4 slices of sourdough and I appreciated that they butters the toast and offered us jam. Overall the plate was fresh and delicious. I' savoured each bite. The service was good, attentive and friendly. Towards the end of our meal, it was getting busy and the noise volume increased, so just a heads up to anyone who doesn't like loud spaces. The music was on point though and I can imagine on a warmer day, the patio would also be a cool vibe to experience. One note I feel is needed to mention is the bathroom. I almost missed the steps descending down to the bathroom because the area is poorly lit. This is a safety issue. Secondly, if you're tall like me, the stalls are very tight and claustrophobic. I barely had any room in the stall and it was very uncomfortable; be careful if you're bringing your purse/phone cause there's no space and I could easily see how things can drop in the toilet. I would highly recommend the business investing into this a little more.

I saw a power outlet by my sofa seat so I think they've planned for working in the cafe. Definitely recommended. They've made it into the Toronto cafe list.

They have plenty of seating, from tables and chairs to more lounge type couches and such. Wifi was also really solid, which we appreciated being in from the States (crazy data charges, you know!). Staff was beyond friendly and knowledgeable and we had a great time chatting with them. Great tunes played inside with plenty of fantastic vinyl to choose from to boot.

As for the drinks, expect the standard complement of espresso drinks, plus chai and matcha lattes and loose leaf teas. Beans are supplied by Toronto-based De Mello Coffee and baked goods are made locally, too. Although the shop is quiet, the service is friendlier than most coffee shops in the city, which I always appreciate. Those are the little things that make me want to return.

There are a few tables along the wall, as well as a back room with additional space for bigger parties. It is family owned, and their cute corgi wanders the place looking for crumbs. I always appreciate when a cafe's drink menu is not basic. We got the lime cream coffee and soursop jasmine iced tea. I liked the coffee more than I thought I would. A good refreshing twist on a traditional viet coffee. The iced tea was a lovely, not-too-sweet combo. My only experience with soursop in the past was with ice cream, so I was happy to see it again. We also got a roasted pork banh mi, which was freshly heated and delicious. With the quieter space and free wifi, we had a pretty productive visit. I can't wait to come back and try more items!

My friend got one of their banana bread drinks - if you like the taste of hojicha, this was particularly strong which I personally enjoyed! The prices are a little expensive (my refresher before tax was $7.5) but typical for what you'd pay in Toronto for a fun drink, from what I've seen.

Drinks I tried: Maple Goguma Latte - Slightly nutty, lightly sweet, and super comforting. I added a shot of espresso, which made it perfectly balanced and not too sweet. Dalgona Latte - A really fun drink with great texture. Just make sure to stir it well since the sweetness settles at the bottom. They're known for their creative, seasonal drink menu, and I'm already excited to come back to try what they release next season.
