Mom Alone Mexican restaurant

My son and I LOVE this restaurant! He lives in California, and when he visits he has to eat at Mom Alone! We have been going for 20 years since he was a kid. Their food is always delicious. Salsa is on par. Complimentary queso is delicious. Everything we have ever ordered is delicious. Last time he ordered a pineapple margarita and it was so yummy! The waiter is always amazing. It is basically a Christmas tradition to eat here during the holidays.

Well, we felt pretty alone sitting at the restaurant during dinner time and not many ppl there... but it's a Monday, so that's probably why, right? Food was not great. This place needs kitchen nightmares help badly. My brotha got the el gigante burrito with ground beef lacking in flavor, and tasted almost like eating a sloppy Joe, so I guess tex mex? The side of rice was also lacking in flavor and probably the rice made for the lunch rush. My nachos were ok, but the plating could use some work. The huge space in the middle just made me feel like I wasn't getting much. The semantics of plating aside, our server wouldn't ask the kitchen to cut our burrito in half. A simple request to make, I believe but then again, it's not my restaurant. I really wanna promote businesses, but this place is a one and done

Excellent food and service. The building on the outside doesn't have the best appearance but the inside is very clean. I had the lunch beef fajitas and they were very good. The sides were a very small portion. Queso comes with your chips which was very good.

**This review is really a 3.5 star rating.** My bride surprised me by taking me here for lunch, as she knows I'm a Tex-Mex junkie. I'll just say, it was a great way to wrap up 2020. Don't let the exterior of this joint fool you. Though seemingly stuck in the 1970s, the interior is sparkly clean, pleasantly dark and deceivingly large. The servers wear black and white and treat guests like royalty. It's almost as if a Tex-Mex joint is locked in time in NYC, where it's more common to continue dancing with what got them there. As with most places during my initial visit, I ordered a variety platter -- enchilada, tamale, crispy taco and a bean chalupa. Everything tasted great, though the taco had more than its fair share of grease. Otherwise, the lettuce was cool and crunchy, beans were smooth and smoky, and the rice was al dente ... all delicious. The tamale, though the menu didn't mention it, was chicken. Normally, I prefer pork tamales, but this one was delicious and worthy of a repeat. My wife had a beef quesadilla and enjoyed it, despite that it was greasier than most. Crispy thin tortilla chips are served here with salsa and complimentary queso, which is far better than average. While the salsa seemed to contain all of the right ingredients, it's served at an almost-boiling temperature. If you read my reviews, you know that I believe warmed salsa is sacrilege, and most of the time I refuse to patronize a restaurant that ruins salsa by heating it. But this place is different. No, I was not a fan of the warmed salsa (though my wife loved it), but the level of service and the flavor of the food made me a fan. Back in the day, the idea of a greasy taco would have me chomping at the bit. But I'm older now, and such things aren't nearly as fun as they used to be. I'll order like the older dude that I am next time. And there will definitely be a next time.

Very cool "hole in the wall" spot in clear lake/Webster area. It's been around for 20+ years and the original Mom and Grandmom are still in house making sure things go accordingly. If you're looking for a papasitos/ chuys vibe this is not your spot. However if you randomly pull over to a beat up filled parking lot for Tex Mex- THIS IS IT!! A local icon and great food, extremely affordable and wholesome customer service

Cheese Enchiladas, I dug into them before remembering to take the photo lol.

We ate there and it was awesome!! Ordered Togo at 950, ten minutes before closing. The food was a good and fresh as if we ordered at 5pm during the dinner rush. I'm very impressed and am looking forward to returning for some sour cream chicken enchiladas. I had the cheese enchiladas and hubs had the fajita chicken enchiladas and both were AMAZING. QUESO WAS AWESOME TOO. VERY HAPPY!!!

While there's a 50% chance i got an upset stomach from this meal, I love the people at momalone, the food has a nostalgic feel to it since I've been coming here for years with family on a weekly "thursday taco night", and I think its a nice traditional Mexican restaurant. I ordered the Veracruz special which came with a beef taco, cheese enchilada, a tostada, and guacamole. The food is fresh and flavorful without being overpowering, its simple dishes like I would make at home, and I love the charm of the restaurant.

Walked in and the restaurant smelled moldy. I ordered an order to go and the chips were stale.

This review has great energy--you just need it tightened and cleaned 1000 dé cinco estrellas!…read more We visited El Jefe Pollo Asados (620 Nassau Rd in Webster) after a long day of touristy activities, exhausted, with a group of seven--including picky kids. We had so many restaurant options but chose this place because of the high ratings... and I'm so glad we did. I'll be honest--when we first arrived, I wasn't impressed with the outside or the area. I was a little hesitant going in. But the moment we walked through the doors, everything changed. The place felt welcoming, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere--yes, a little loud--but in a good way. It's that lively Mexican vibe: music, micheladas, carne asada... all of it. We were just tired, so I think I noticed it more. Now let's talk about the food... I ordered the Maestro Plate but swapped the meat for short rib costillas--and OH. MY. GOSH. These were hands down some of the best costillas I've ever had. Juicy, tender, packed with flavor. I cleaned those bones completely--every single bite. The dish was served with perfectly grilled "nopales" and queso panela, que ricura! Ahhh, and of course the charro beans and rice that I barely made a dent in. The portions? HUGE. Two of us shared one plate and still had leftovers--and we can eat! Now this part says everything: my grandson, who is on the spectrum and very picky, ordered pollo asado... and he tore into it. No complaints, no hesitation--he finished his entire plate. That alone speaks volumes. My daughter had the birria (and she's a birria critic), and even she couldn't finish her plate because of how generous the portion was--but she said it was full of flavor and really good. My older grandson (big growing boy with an equally big appetite) had a birria quesadilla--again, huge portion--and even he couldn't finish it, which never happens. To top it all off, the owner surprised us with a complimentary dessert--warm, soft, pillowy sopapillas with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. The kids were FULL... and still devoured every last bite. Not a crumb left. And let's talk about pricing... honey. Compared to Austin? This was a steal. I was honestly shocked at how affordable it was for the quality and portion sizes. Amazing food, generous portions, great service, and a place that turned my hesitation into loyalty. They've earned our business--100%. We will absolutely be back next time we're in town.

The place we were going to eat in Galveston was too close to the cruise ship loading zone and…read moretraffic was bumper-to-bumper, so Google recommended this as a place on our way back to the airport. Glad it did! First, the wait time - we showed up on a Sunday morning, right after some kind of race in the area. They told us the wait would be about 45 minutes to an hour, and we waited 55 minutes. No big deal - at least their estimate was accurate. But beware if you're on a time crunch on a weekend at brunch time :) Great hash! I had CHRISTINA'S TAMALE CAKES (Benedict), and loved it. It was top two of my meals in this visit to Texas. The carnitas were flavorful, the poached eggs were perfect, the corn bread base on the tamale wrapper was awesome. If I could improve the dish - and that would be hard to do - I would ask for a bit more of that delicious green chile Hollandaise sauce on top, which I would buy by the jug if I could. The smashed potatoes were excellent - very well seasoned and oiled and salty to go with the sweet from my main dish. My companion loved her hash dish and I scooped up some of her sauce to eat the last few bites of my cornbread. Loudness - This place was LOUD. They had a DJ spinning some great music choices - but I couldn't really converse with my wife during breakfast. I am well aware that I sound old and crotchety. I love the clubs - but this was like being in a club during brunch. Hygiene - The hostess at the front desk station was on her phone the entire 55 minutes we were waiting. When I asked her if I could get a Bloody Mary to save me from boredom during the wait - she told me to hang on. Then she sat on her phone and talked and texted for another 5 minutes or so. My wife dropped a pair of tongs on the floor from the Bloody Mary bar. Another lady picked them up, and told the lady behind the station that it had fallen on the floor. She didn't wash it - she just stuck them back in the jar where people are grabbing the food for their Bloody Marys. In hindsight - I don't know if I would have taken advantage of the endless toppings on the bloody Mary bar.

I don't care if you're going for breakfast, brunch, or lunch... it's brunch and you're enjoying yourself. The atmosphere is fun. I don't know what it is, maybe the nostalgic music that was playing or just that brunch is a whole entire vibe. Could've been that I was just excited to celebrate our anniversary... whatever it is, I liked it. Our waitress was great. Unfortunately, I cannot remember her name, but it started with a V. The menu options sounded so good that I struggled to decide what I wanted. I ultimately decided to go with the Croque Madam with over-easy eggs, and let me tell you, I was so happy with my choice... and the fact that I had leftovers. We had reservations at a fancy restaurant that night that I was excited to try, but I was seriously tempted to cancel my reservations for the chance to eat my leftovers. I thoroughly enjoyed it the next day though. My husband got Huevos Rancheros which is one of his favorite things to get when we go on a cruise. He said this one far surpassed his sea day brunch favorite. It's been a week since our visit and I've already made brunch plans with the girls so I can go back. Ü

The sauce was mild, aromatic, salted enough and not too dense. The enchiladas were full cooked and tender. The cheese amount was enough to get some richness without being too cheesy or greasy. The chicken was plentiful and soft in feel adding nice bite and some protein vibes. The rice was subtle, fluffy and comforting. The refried beans were thankfully chunky with a touch of pudding feel, not too smooth. They also had a very unique spice in them too, which was good. The service was very welcoming, friendly and efficient. I also plan to try their chipotle and spinach chicken enchiladas on future visits when in the area. Chips and salsa were pretty standard, but still good. The place feels authentically Mexican, which is a nice change-up from all of the Tex-Mex places that are so common. The music and decor is all on point! Service was above and beyond as well. Even for a Sunday at lunch time, the waiters were constantly checking on us to make sure our drinks were topped off and to make sure we didn't need anything. 9/10 would definitely go back !…read more I ordered the chicken and steak fajitas, and both were really good. Personally, I enjoyed the chicken more. It had amazing flavor and was perfectly cooked. The steak was good too, but it had more of a barbecue taste, which just isn't my personal preference I also heard the table next to me. Tell the waiter that they preferred the chicken over the filet mignon, which just goes to show that their chicken is superior. Next time, I'd probably stick with just the chicken fajitas. Let's talk about the sauces because they deserve their own moment. The green sauce that came with the chips was AMAZING. So fresh and flavorful. The red sauce was also really good -- both paired perfectly with the chips. For rice, I tried both the cilantro rice and the Mexican rice. They were both solid, but I liked the Mexican rice just a little more. One thing to keep in mind: toppings for fajitas are an extra charge. I got the garlic, onion, and Serrano topping with cheese -- and they do not play when they say it's spicy! It was delicious but very spicy. Also, it's a $5.99 upcharge, which is easy to miss. And heads up: they mix the Serranos into the cheese, so you can't really remove them once it's served. If you're sensitive to heat, I'd recommend asking for the Serrano peppers on the side. The service was extraordinary -- super attentive and welcoming. The place was packed, but there was still plenty of parking, which was a plus. I didn't order drinks this time, but they looked really good. I'll definitely be back, especially for Margarita Monday -- $5 margaritas all day sounds like a deal I can't pass up. Overall, amazing food, great service, and a fun vibe. I'll absolutely be coming back!

The red salsa here is served hot. I prefer cold salsa but it was good. The avocado green salsa was cold and delish. Chips were fresh and crispy. I had the 2 crispy brisket tacos plate. The brisket was so tender and had just the right amount of sweet bbq sauce. The tacos also have cheese and there's lettuce on the side you can also add to the tacos. They give u the choice of 1,2, or 3 tacos and the tacos are huge. I would've been fine with one but they were so delicious that I have no regrets about ordering 2. The refried black beans were tasty. They give you the choice between those, charro beans and your standard refried beans. They also give you the choice between their house rice which is your typical Mexican rice or a cilantro greenish rice that I believe has a few bits of pork or ham in it. I chose the cilantro rice and it was perfectly cooked, seasoned and delicious. My cousin had 1 grilled fish taco plate and the same bean and rice sides I had and she also loved her food. The ambience, food, and great service make this the perfect dinner spot before a movie and a great start to the weekend!
