August 6, 2026 Forgot to check in on Yelp; dang it Live in Galveston but was in the area so I stopped for a to-go order I got the summer special and cheese enchiladas with onions ALWAYS check your order BEFORE leaving; given ground beef enchiladas not cheese. They were ok, ground beef not seasoned too much but good Summer special good as usual. Could have given be a larger amount of free sauces and chips read more

A group of us decided to come to this place on a whim. Service was great quick, attentive and kind, several of us ordered off the 2 for $30.00 menu. You get a shared appetizer and 2 entrees for $30.00, we ordered queso for our shared and shredded chicken enchiladas, and chicken fajita plate. I had a skinny margarita which was tasty. Chips and hot sauce were on point, the green sauce was "hot" but delish! We had a great time! Unfortunately we were having "a no phones" at dinner party so I didn't get pics! The food is consistently good from our last visit!! Will be back! read more

Good size place that can accommodate large groups. We came here for a surprise birthday party of about 20 people and notice in other areas of the restaurant were other large party groups. Wait staff was friendly and quick. Ordered Chile Relleno with picadillo and the rice and beans were flavorful, but the Relleno not so much, no flavor at all. Good thing for the salsa and the table salt. Many others at the table felt the same way about there dishes, a lack of flavor. The birthday was a hit so all in all a good experience. read more

Located in the La Marque Outlet Mall, Barcena's is a consistent yummy, good-quality Mexican restaurant! They can handle large groups with great service! If we can, we call ahead to try to reserve an area for our group. If you order fajitas for one, either take some home or share with another! read more

Pleasantly surprised by this lovely restaurant. The entire staff was so welcoming! Food was excellent- hubby had fish tacos, actual fish!! I have chicken flautas which can be hard to find and they were delicious. The menu had so much to choose from. Refreshing and beautiful interior. We will be visiting again! read more

Unexpected lunch/dinner.... Very Surprised by this restaurant. I didn't expect it to be this good!! The beef was Tender and Juicy inside my Burrito . The salsa around the Burrito was tasty and delicious too.... Beans and rice well done Good vibrant Mexican music in the background playing. Kinda pricey but I guess with Inflation and ALL the crap going up ,up, up from the current crappy Administration....it's typical. I really enjoyed the comida and atmosphere too.... Lotsa people coming in and out with regulars and more. Fast and friendly waitress with quick turnaround of filling beverage and making sure that I was happy as well. Nice touch..... read more

The quality of the food and atmosphere as well as service was excellent! Yazmin was our server and she kept checking on us with a beautiful smile. The menu is pricey but worth it. We ordered fajita - beef, chicken & shrimp for two, and were charged as a parillada which cost $60. We also ordered two El Jimador telquilla shots which brought our total to $85.00. read more

Wednesday evening, my sister's 70th Bday was great at first....then the food came followed by the bill. I've not been there in awhile and it has changed a lot! Food and service not like it used to be. My Mel's enchiladas weren't as good as used to be. (tortillas weren't chewy on the ends) and skimpy on the sauce. Server placed my dinner on my sister and her husband's bill. I had to have her redo the bill and put my order separate. She did not care for that request. She should have asked before doing that. Tip was auto 20%. I decide the tip not Barcenas. I won't be back. From what others stated, they won't either. Disappointed. read more

All the prices are high and I just feel there are a ton of Mexican food places that are good. This place has never made me say see you tomorrow. Food ok . But not like my favorite place San Lorenzo s on 646 north of 517. People will drive a little ways if food is good.. read more

I got caught in a rainstorm on the way back from Houston, so I stopped here to let some of the rain pass. I had no idea if it was any good. After seating, I received chips and salsa. Very tasty. I like the texture of the chips (thick) and the medium heat on the salsa. Then, I ordered Chalupas- one chicken and one beef. They came with beans, rice, avocado, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and sour cream. I had never had chalupas before, but it won't be my last time! I loved it all! The lettuce was crisp, the Chalupas were perfect - both the beef and chicken, and all the trimmings were fresh and tasty. I'm glad I found another place to dine! read more

Very good food! I love their fajita nachos!!! Their queso is a favorite. I highly recommend. Lots of parking since it's on the corner of a strip center. Ps. Ask for the green salsa if they only bring out the red salsa. SO DELICIOUS read more

Very tasty enchiladas! Chicken quesadillas were also really good. It's a great comfort food place.

The service was exceptional! The food is authentically delicious! My beer was served in a frosted mug with a choice of a salted rim. You must stop in and try it. I went for lunch and it was clean, quiet enough for table conversation. The menu is plentiful and the prices are great for the large portions that you get. Looking forward to my next visit! read more

Always great service and friendly staff. That alone makes it a great place and the food is a bonus. LOL.... Great place!!

First the server Daniel A was wonderful we love him great service from him. The food was good my girlfriend really liked the chili relleno. My problem was when they tell you cheese and sour cream would be extra ok cool then get the bill. The small side of cheese was 3.99 the small bowl of sour cream was 2.50 and then to get 3 extra tortillas was 1.75. Blown away by this. I get charging extra but really that much? Not ok. read more

Say it with me. Emma! Emma! Emma! Thank god for managers who care. Came on Cinco De Mayo and you know it was busy. But Emma cares and made sure her waitstaff had back up because she pulled up her sleeves, jumped in to help her team and that made all the difference for me. I will be back plus our food was amazing. Thank you Emma for caring about your customers and waitstaff. 5 stars for Emma! read more

Excellent friendly service ! Food is always on point! Homeros enchiladas be sure to them if you want mild sauce!

Pardon this belated review. The last time I was here was two weeks ago, but this jewel of a Mexican restaurant has been a part of my life for about a decade. My neighbors and I don't know how -- and I don't use the word quite frequently -- blessed we are to be mere minutes from a Barcena's. While not nearly what could be considered authentic South of the Border cuisine, it still makes the estomago (Spanish: stomach) sing with delight. Whenever I dine here, I usually get some sort of enchilada plate, which I highly recommend. During my most recent visit, I got real acquainted with the Burrito Texano. The dish was a fiesta of cheesy and meaty goodness. It was big and piping hot to the point I was eating it with a fork and knife. I should also mention that Barcena's chips and salsa game is truly excellent. read more

Will be back for the split chicken alone. It is something I will now crave forever. Service was fine nothing to scream about. You can tell this place has been here for a long time because it is among a huge dying mall type complex. Hidden gem. read more

Great food and excellent wait staff white cheese queso is delicious so far we've tried fajitas and charro beans.

Always a filling delicious meal here. When we decided to come here for lunch today I could not resist on getting the Homero's Favorite enchilada from the lunch menu. I decided to ask for it medium spicy this time with spicy salsa on the side. It wasn't too spicy and I actually added quite a bit of the spicy salsa to it. Service was great and our drinks stayed filled. They were pretty busy with the lunch crowd today and the service was on top of it. I love the atmosphere and the women's restroom handicap stall has a changing table inside so that is a nice addition. read more

Ordinary. Chips and salsa are good but comes cold. Coffee was ok but got cold really fast. I ordered two tacos de chorizo with egg and bacon on tortillas de maíz because it's hard to go wrong with that but something was missing. They were well filled huge portions but lacking in flavor. Amazing food but don't order tacos. I was charged $16 for two carne guisada tacos. Two! And paid almost $4 a taco for what should be the most inexpensive taco to make...bean and cheese. Just disrespectful and because of this price gouging I will never come back here. read more
