I don't know what it is about this place. I really want to like it, but it always misses the mark. I've had two good experiences out of five times I've been there. The food is pretty good, as is the green sauce, and now that they added a spicy red sauce the food is even better. The building itself is nice but different tables have different vibes. The manager does go around checking on people but the issues aren't something that make sense to bring up at the time because it's always something different that is lacking. This last visit on Saturday the 11th of April. The hostess, a young short blonde girl (I won't mention the name), was rude. No eye contact, barely acknowledging we are standing right in front of her, definitely no greeting, and no direct communication. Just whispers to the person showing us to our table with a blank expression on her face. This was almost enough for me to decide it was going to be a bad experience. Definitely a bad initial impression. I said hi to her, told her thank you, and everything trying to extend courtesy then I remembered SHE is the hostess not me. Ridiculous. Our waitress that day McKenzie was pretty good, but I felt bad for her. Our table was as far as you can get from the kitchen or wherever the wait staff goes to get water, chips, food etc. and she was having a hard time serving, especially cause she would bring out one thing at a time. For example, she would see we had an empty cup, so she would just leave and come back and drop off a cup without communicating, well if she asked we would have told her, we need chips, water, salsa, napkins. Instead she made a trip for each of these, one at a time. Really weird wait style and very inefficient. She was still good though, because even thought at times she wouldn't communicate at all, she was still observing what we needing and dealing with it. Must be a weird gen z lack of interpersonal skills. I really want to like this place, they're on the cusp of being great, but need to work on consistency. read more

Over the past several years, I've only ordered curbside orders from gringos. Hadn't stepped foot inside in years. But I recently went for lunch with a friend. I ordered my usual marisco bowl, substitute refried beans for black and added chicken. No complaints except service was a little slow at one point which is understandable as our server appeared to be distracted and busy. I like that we were able to pay by scanning a QR code. Makes the whole process of paying the bill so much easier and quicker. read more

I didn't realize they remodeled this place inside and out since we haven't been here in forever! Came here for lunch after I picked up my kid at COM. On 5/25/2025 my family got together at Gringos in Texas City,TX to plan the yearly family reunion. Two of the eight are special needs with severe autism. Because of her celiac disease, Marie is unable to eat Mexican food and she has special dietary needs, all her food is prepared by her mother. Everyone else ordered food, Marie had her sack lunch. The manager came to the table and informed my family they would not allow outside food. The manager said Gringos would not accommodate and they were told to leave. Marie is very upset because she doesn't understand what she did wrong. Needless to our family will never eat at Gringos ever again. read more

On 05/20/2025 we ordered on line for a pickup. When we got there they said they don't have our order, so my wife showed them the reciept on her phone. They took my wife's phone to the back to look for our order and finally found it. We have been famiy, and friends there for many years. Bottom line I'll never go back. They charged us $53. for 2 steak fajitas that had just a few pieces of meat about the size of a pea. We ordered 2 quesos that came in a 2 ounce container for $4. each, and an open bag of chips with a handful in it. It's sad to say, We lost our favoite restaurant. read more

No, don't take scheduled orders, call back at 11:15. 3) call back at 11:15 a sorry we are too busy, can't take phone orders. Place online. Fine, place order online, ready at 11:47. 4) arrive at 11:46, not ready until 12:00. No receipt, sorry no receipt for online order, no receipt in email, have to get out of car to demand receipt. This place doesn't even have that good of food! And the service sucks! I will tell customers from now on I don't order from that dump! read more

Came in on Super Bowl Sunday. Two Cadillac margaritas and a seafood enchilada later, I was as happy as could be! Manager kept stopping by to check on me. Service was top notch, fast and friendly. ZERO stars. I honestly can't even believe the lack of service I received last night a this location. I'm probably spoiled from growing up near/frequenting the Original Pearland location. The set the bar high for comparisons. I came here last night to support a baseball fundraiser and it just so happened to be my son's birthday. I'd say the issue started when a table of 6 of us were sat and no one ever came to take our drink orders. We had chips and salsa but no drinks. As more guests arrived to support the fundraiser, the hostess and waitstaff grew frustrated with true influx of supporters around the dinner rush. They were bickering while reviewing their table tablet. A little awkward. They relocated us to another side of the restaurant and transferred us to Juan. He was extremely unenthusiastic. Forgot multiple orders. Never refilled drinks. Added things to our tickets that we never ordered. Charged $9.99 per kids a la carte taco. He also said that singing happy birthday was disruptive to other guests...okay. Didn't honor our fundraising code and didn't apply my gringos rewards to my ticket. When asked why the fundraiser code wasn't applied for donations , he said because one person at our table had a military veterans discount. This was very confusing/upsetting. He was saying Gringos doesn't honor a military discount (for one of the four tickets) and a scheduled fundraiser at the same time? When asked to speak to the manager, he seemed too busy to be bothered and said he'd email our receipts to corporate. Not sure if that's actually been done, but needless to say, I personally wouldn't come back to this location and I wouldn't recommend this business for fundraising. The new mangonada margarita is super tasty, as is the chicken enchiladas suizas. Very flavorful sauce and I could just sit there and eat green sauce and chips all night. Our server was attentive but not overbearing and we were sat very quickly which was surprising for a Saturday night. I also love the entry way and bathroom upgrades. read more

It's 2024 and Gringos doesn't take Apple Pay, which is fine but don't claim otherwise it's confusing to everyone involved.

We get fajitas. They are amazing. We get enchiladas. Equally delicious. We get the fajita taco salad with queso as the dressing. To die for. We are older now, so we usually gar a Presidente and split it. It fills us both and we love it! Plus we always get queso dip. And LOVE IT! Top everything with Sopapillas with honey and butter! Ordered a water and it tasted like it came out of the kitchen sink, I couldn't drink it. Food was mediocre, literally got crunchy tortillas with my polo con Caso, which also had barely any cheese. We stopped here after visiting Galveston and we were very pleased with everything. The food was delicious (get the Pastor Bowl while it's still available!). The service was great and everyone we saw on the way to our table greeted us and seemed happy we were there. This was all on top of it being a crowded Sunday afternoon. Service was great other than seating. We were there just before 1pm on a week days and several parties were in waiting area to be checked in. Hostess seemed a bit frazzled. Seated a couple and was gone a long while while more people came in. Just odd why it was backed up as there were plenty of tables once we were seated. Anyway our server was great, efficient and attentive. Decorating is really nice and like the seating arrangements. Chips and dips tea i got fajitas pretty standard for a texmex. I got the magonada which they actually added the taramind straw this time -finally but the polo Tampico came without sauce & tortillas. WTF is wrong with the staff there?? I've never ER known any business to be so consistently incompetent in all the countries I've lived in, in my 43 yrs on this earth. Are y'all deliberately destroying Gringos on purpose because there's no possible way you can consistently mess up an order of 4 meals, 9/10 times, by accident. I'm not sure who does the hiring or training there but they need to be replaced. I'm absolutely flabbergasted that you guys consistently screw up our order & given our order arrived at 9pm & they're closed, there's nothing I can do but eat another screwed up meal. On my continued project of discovering places I enjoy in Friendswood TX I was missing the great Mexican food I loved in Bakersfield, CA. I will return to a place that has tasty refried beans. My son in law said the beans at Gringo's were very good. I ordered a pint of their refried beans and a dozen flour tortillas. I also ordered their green sauce with chips and a taco salad. The salad was great with a crispy shell that held the salad. The green sauce was delicious with just a slight burn that I love. The chips were crispy and yummy. I loved the refried beans as they were full of flavor. They will be the standard here in Texas to compare all others I try. The homemade flour tortillas were the best I have had. I will be a frequent customer and am so happy I have found an outstanding Mexican food restaurant. read more

Visited Gringo's for the first time on Friday September 27, 2024. Was not impressed. Food was on the saltier side, got hit in the head by a waitress and her tray and when the bill came, it already included the tip that was not earned. I came in with a party of six to celebrate our September birthdays...not once did our waiter come to remove any of our empties. They just stayed piled up on our table.
