Molten java has been a favorite place of mine for a long time. They do their own custom coffee roasting. A homey place and there is even live music at times. I created an account just to post this review. I see that the owner often reads them and I truly hope she will read this one. I do not want to discuss the coffee, the food, or the cute little gifts. I need to discuss the bathroom. I have been to your shop for years and find it an easy stop to grab a cup of coffee. Each time, I'm not impressed with the bathroom and tried to avoid it but this weekend, it crossed a line. A dirty, disgusting line. First, the toilet was gross. Brown ring around the bowl (not a water stain). There is absolutely no excuse for that anywhere, especially a food establishment. It is an old toilet, I get it, but this was just foul. Next, the sink. The grime was also not acceptable. Before anyone blames the customers or that it was "busy" (it was busy), you need to know that neither the brown ring or the grime on the sink were "new". Both had been there a while and it was going to take a lot of scrubbing to get it off of there. The entire bathroom needs to be decontaminated. I walked in, assessed the situation and left. Also, a big rack full of toilet paper and towels as well as items on the floor that had fallen off the storage shelves gave the foul bathroom even more of a disheveled look. I get that it was busy and your baristas are not there to scrub the bathrooms, but I really do suggest you look into this. If this is what your bathroom looks like, I cringe to thing about the conditions of your establishment than no one else can see. Trendy and hip does not have to equal gross and dirty. In my 90 min at the shop, no one went in there to clean. On a positive note, the baristas were very nice and had it not been very busy, I would have spoken to them directly. read more

This is my all time favorite place for coffee and coffee beans. The micro roast process they use produces some very flavorful beans. I have tried other artisan coffee bean places in Brooklyn but nothing has compared to this place. The beans retain a good amount of oil and are not dried out like other places. The variety is very extensive. read more

I've been going to Molten Java for a few years and it always makes great snacks and great drinks! I recommend the crackatoa, it's absolutely wonderful! I can understand how the workers would be rude, but they've always been perfectly polite to me. read more

Great coffee, which they roast on site. The food is vegetarian and vegan friendly, and tasty. It never disappoints! For people-watching, it is the closest thing to a sidewalk cafe in the Village that this transplanted City girl has seen in the 19 years since I moved to CT. read more

This is the artsy independent coffeeshop to go to in the area. I've been coming here regularly for over 2 years now, and I couldn't recommend it more. The vibe is warm, the baristas consistently friendly, and the regulars welcoming. If you're looking for a hole-in-the-wall spot to meet some friends over a cup of coffee, I highly recommend Molten. To me, they offer something very unique and personalized to the community that a big coffeehouse chain could never provide, and I think they deserve all the support possible from Bethel. read more

I go to M.J. about once a week, decent coffee place (being that it's the only sit down cafe in bethel) Some Of h staff is very pleasant while others not so much. Also, it is often dirty (IE. table tops) The biggest pet peeve that I have is that employees smoke right outside of the entrance and don't bother to wash their hands after coming back from their smoking break (which seems to be every five minutes) IT'S NASTY! Could be a decent place if they cleaned up their act and followed proper hygiene routines!!!! read more

Ive been here three times over the past 6 months. Overall, okay place to grab a snack and.a quick drink. I LOVE that they are working to showcase artists and.local vendors but other than that, I'm not thrilled. My biggest issue is the coffee. If you are coming to support a local establishment or the atmosphere, then you will.be fine. Expect a quality cup of coffee and you will sorely disappointed. After all the hype about their "molton java beans" and "calico roast", I thought I was going to be wow'd. Each time, the coffe tasted burnt. Not sure if calico is the best option. They seem to be better suited for the frozen drinks and teas. Overall, an okay experience. Staff were kind. Confusing/overwhelming to figure out what to get - there were menus everywhere. I love this place, the staff, and the owner. The coffee,specialty drinks, tea (and selection of tea) and treats are REALLY good. The food items are touch and go.. the breakfast chroizo wrap is yummy, but I wish there was more fresh ingredients, like salads, and fresh veggies for the sandwiches. There's a true sense of community there, and it is a REAL town coffee shop, which is for REAL people, and it's not elitist, like Starbucks. I think it's a great place to hangout, I love the energy in there. But, honestly, to eat a meal there, hasn't been the highpoint of my experience. read more

I like to go to Molten Java for my daily coffee when I can. I usually only get drinks.. which I ALWAYS enjoy. In the winter, try the Turkish latte... delicious (but not so good iced, in my opinion!). I love the relaxed vibe inside (they always have great music playing) and the outdoor seating in the summer. In their new location, they have a lot more space, and there is a book store right up the stairs! They also have free wifi, and as long as you've ordered something they don't bug you to leave, unlike other places. This place was a lifesaver during Snowtober when I needed to do schoolwork but had no power or cable!!! The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 is because sometimes, and only sometimes, the food is eh (i.e. a rock hard bagel or a too-greasy muffin). But hey, its known for its coffee and that's why I go :) read more

Sadly I just spent 20 minutes writing a review for this place and it disappeared. SO, i'll just say the Mochas are good. Dark Chocolate covered espresso beans are the best. big comfy chairs need replacing. menu boards needs to be a bit more organized. Love the porch seating. Can reserve a room upstairs for your 'get together'. Some of the employees are on the 'rude' side but one young man was very nice and helpful. Don't like the idea you have to spend $8 if you use a debit/credit card. Artsy and fair trade a plus. read more

As great as the coffee and food is at Molten Java, it's the soul of this place I love so much. What a great vibe. It first opened when my children were babies, and was a great escape for mommy coffee time with other friends who had little ones. As they grew, we would go all together and the kids would play board games for hours. They are now old enough to go in alone with friends, to fetch a cup of hot chocolate. And this is where I go to meet friends and clients. I also buy many of my gifts from MJ -- fair trade, organic, exotic little trinkets. Just a nice added touch. read more

The baristas were friendly, went out of their way to be helpful, and the food and drinks were fantastic. LOVE the artwork (unicorns rule!) and the kids corner is great. Only thing holding it back from 5 stars for me are the stinky armchairs -- so, go there, sit at a table, and enjoy some fab food!! read more

Great space, friendly staff, fair prices. MUCH better than the old location. I specifically recommend the Turkish Latte, yummm. Very little to complain about except ... the last two times I've been in (weekend mornings) the same small child was using fully half of one of the rooms as his personal playspace. Loud and barefoot, doing whatever he wanted. His father couldn't be bothered for any attention, let alone supervision. Kind of killed the normally chill MJ atmosphere. Oh well. read more
