My family's favorite restaurant at St. Regis! We have visited twice for dinner, both meals were delicious. Molasses offers local specialties as well as entrees that will work for picky eaters. They serve complimentary rolls and guava butter which was amazing. We always got a second serving. Appetizers we loved were the calamari with a sweet and spicy sauce and the crab cake. Notable entrees were the pollo con arroz (chicken on flavorful rice served with tostones), sautéed shrimp with garlic and herb served with rice and an avocado sauce, the ribeye was also good. If you want a good side, get the mamposteao. It is a seasoned rice with beans with the best flavor. For dessert, the key lime cream was nice and refreshing but you MUST get the chocolate chip bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. Absolutely delicious. I got it both times I came, and my sisters did the same. Great restaurant with wonderful staff. Will definitely come again before we leave. read more

It's the end of a 5 night vacation in Puerto Rico and honestly, I'm exhausted over the indifferent, uninvested and painfully slow service that we've had during our entire trip. We encountered this not just at Molasses, but everywhere. Getting past the service, the food was absolutely yummy. Our party of six dined on chicken, short rib, grouper (both crispy and grilled) and salmon. Everything was delicious--everything! It makes me sad to take a star off for service because conceptually, it's such an easy thing to fix--especially at a restaurant within the St Regis. Came back to try Molasses again since there are only three dining options at the Regis and this is one of them. Molasses has a great vibe overlooking the pool. The Mofungo is a great traditional dish worth trying once but not something I'll chase down again. My wife's chicken was a bit dry. Overall, the highlight from a food standpoint was the ceviche. Great food, nice service and atmosphere. Absolutely worth the visit if you're already staying at the St Regis. If you're not staying at St Regis and you're making a special trip for just one meal, then I'd suggest going to Fern instead (not a knock on Molasses, we just thought Fern was better). We shared an arugula salad w/ papaya + avocado and it was truly, truly fantastic (5 stars out of 5). Portion size was surprisingly large and perfect to split into two. For our main course, we shared the shrimp mofongo. With the intensely rich tomato sauce over top, it was quite robust and delicious (4 stars). The only downside was that we each only got 1 shrimp in our split portion ... the shrimp were giant but 2 apiece would have been better. Finally, we got the double chocolate cake and were blown away by the decadence (5 stars). You absolutely *have* to try it if you love over-the-top chocolate desserts! Prices were a bit high but portions were large enough to share, so it ended up not being that expensive. All in all, we liked Molasses quite a bit and were glad we visited. read more

For a 7 star resort this was a complete let down. They did not carry many options and food took a long time. By the time we got the food it was cold. It was practically flavor less and small overpriced portions. This is uncommon but I saw other ppl sending their plates back. I ordered a glass of Pilot and the wine was spoilt. Like the steak better because the crab cakes (appetizer size came with 4 cakes for $16) was made with shredded vs lump crab meat. Condensed version: Stay away from the restaurant if you value your time and money. Contrary to prior reviews, this place needs to be avoided like the plague. This restaurant is now named Beach Club but a new name doesn't make it better. After an abnormally long wait time for a half empty restaurant, we were seated in a poorly lit area. It required cell phone light to read the menus. We placed our drink orders and it took nearly 15 minutes to receive three beers and two cocktails; cocktails were poorly made and the requested beers were incorrect. Afterward, we didn't see our waiter for another 15 minutes. When he did arrive, we were quick to order our entrees but the wait continued. Once the entrees arrived, they looked fabulous but that is the end of its positive qualities. Nearly everything was tasteless. The skirt steak was lukewarm at best along with the rice and beans. The tuna was over cooked and the plantains did not taste like anything. This dinner lasted two and a half hours despite the restaurant never filling up with patrons. You are better off literally eating your money because it would be more flavorful and satisfying than this wretched place. read more

Once we were seated, it took awhile for the waiter to come by. He got our drinks orders wrong and it took awhile to bring the correct ones out. The staff did not know how to correctly pour a beer. There was 75% foam on the top of the beer that they poured into our glasses. I ordered a mixed drink that was very watered down. Our main courses were all flavorless. I ordered the tuna which had barely any pink in it. The tuna was bland. My husband got the skirt steak, which was luke warm at best. I will never return to this restaurant to eat. I would never recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Puerto Rico. Management needs to change things ASAP. read more

We ate there twice during our stay at the resort. First night we didn't getting a choice of indoor/outdoor seating and were seated inside (air conditioning made it too cold, I recommend outside!). Our server Minerva was wonderful~very friendly & knowledgable and took great care of us. The crabcakes, short rib mini sliders and churrasco were delicious. No desserts and with 2 drinks total came to $125. Pricey but delicious. Second night we ate outside...I got the arroz con pollo (delicious flavor) with a side of spinach and hubby got the beef mofongo. Dessert: Chocolate Trés Leches with coconut ice cream...best dessert on the island during our trip. Overall, expensive but delicious & nice representation. read more

It was night time do I could hear the ocean couldn't see it but but deducting any points for that it course. The calamari appetizer was very good and can't out quick but the ref snapper was waay waay over cooked like almost to a degree of mummification. Mofongo was just ok but at $32 it should have left me crying when I was done with it because of the wonderful experience. I was just left wondering where the flavor was. Horrendous food - seriously the worst meal we've eaten in years. I'm not sure if it was an off night. But my risotto did not taste right - it had a strange flavor like the chef got the recipe way wrong. My daughters spinach was so salty it was not edible. My wife's chicken dish was flavorless. The ceviche was too sweet. And the food was outrageously expensive for the terrible quality. I don't understand how a hotel as nice as the St. Regis gets away with serving food so awful. read more

Probably the best of the three restaurants at this resort. This was our second visit, first being 4 years ago during its inaugural year. We really enjoyed the restaurant then. This time we ordered chicken mofongo (which was a bit dry and salty for our taste - so we docked them a star), and the pastelon de alva, which was excellent - pulled pork topped with cheese on a bed of plantain mash. We sat outside for our dinner, but since the sun had long set and there was no view (only a strong ocean breeze), we may sit inside next time. The interior is very pretty. read more

FOOD: 4.5 stars - i had the AL PLATO SALMON 3 times (they have al plato choices where they offer a protein and cook it simply and you order a side of your choice, rather than having a fixed side and having sauces all over the protein). had it cooked 'pink in the center'. the skin is super crispy. amazing. the side i got each time was sauteed spinach and i asked for it to be cooked in salt/pepper/olive oil/garlic. simple. perfectly delicious - had the SALMON with fixed side of beans/spinach something or other. salmon was still cooked to my liking. just didn't like the bean stuff - WHOLE FRIED SNAPPER with rice and beans: ok. not as good as the salmon. salsa crudo is really good - BRAISED SHORT RIB SLIDERS: friend and husband loved - BRAISED SHORT RIB on top of truffled risotto: amazing - ARROZ CON POLLO: friend loved - MOLASSES MOFONGO with chicken: super yummy but heavy - PLANTAIN NACHOS with rope vieja: husband loved - CRAB CAKES: chock full of crab. really good - CALAMARI APP: tasty breading. not chewy DESSERT: 2 stars - KEY LIME TART: not sure how to fix - CHOCOLATE MOUSSE WITH ALMOND 'TART': just so-so so much more i want to try on menu. would def get el plato salmon again! read more
