The food was pretty good, and we loved the energy and the live band here... but what really set this place apart was how friendly the staff was! When we arrived, the main room was packed, and the few open tables were reserved. The host asked us if we'd be okay sitting in another room. I explained that we're visiting, and we wouldn't mind waiting for a table to open up where the live band section is. Upon hearing this, they were nice enough to accommodate us and make it happen. We only got 3 items of food: Longaniza, Bacalaitos and Octupus salad with Pulpo. Longaniza was deep friend with chimichurri sauce (was not the deep color I was expecting) tasted like pork chop chunks, octopus salad my hubby ate said it need more olive oil and the pieces were not consistent and chunky; there were pieces that were too small-he said it didn't taste bad but a traditional octopus salad. It was a last minute stop on our way back to hotel!it was almost closing time but the best decision and the staff was welcoming! Such delicious food! We had the calamari which was so good! We had the fried plantain stuffed spicy crab. And plantain stuff chicken breast wrapped in bacon and it was so good! My husband ate most of that but he loved it. Such good authentic food! When visiting Puerto Rico, you definitely need to go to the Kioscos in Luquillo. It's a very long row of nearly 60 family-owned businesses selling food, drinks, and souvenirs! Best part is right behind the row of kiosks is the beach! It's so pretty. While walking through, we could smell the Pinchios cooking at Terruño, so we had to get some! Tasted good but not the way I usually like them which is on the grill. Had an octopus salad that had a lot of octopus but not enough olive oil so it just tasted blah. The mojitos were ok. Couldn't understand the $8.00 mojito which was perfectly priced but $6.00 for grapefruit juice with no alcohol..... not cool. Visited Luquillo last week and had to leave a review! We stopped here because everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and when we walked in there was a guy playing live (and he was amazing). So the vibes were lively and relaxing. Then we ordered a few things to try among four of us, and we LOVED everything we ordered. Would highly recommend: (1) the tostones filled with spicy crab, (2) bacalaitos, (3) mofongo filled with shrimp, (4) piononitos. I will say, when we asked our server what is the one item we should try, she immediately suggested the Piononitos and she was right. This spot came recommended and since it's close to where we're staying in Luquillo, it felt like a perfect match- especially because my husband has been craving Chuleta (pork chop) Can Can, a Puerto Rican favorite. Terruño is one of the many restaurants along this popular strip- but it might be the only one with live music and this was a definite plus. We were greeted immediately and seated at a table right in front of the band that was playing familiar tunes with their own upbeat, "salsafied" twist. Unfortunately, most of my food and drinks didn't keep up with the vibe. We started with sorrullos (cornmeal fritters) and mini meat alcapurrias. The fritters were disappointing and tasted like they had been stretched with flour missing that rich cornmeal flavor. Hubs likes his meat alcapurrias though. My guava sangria missed the mark with barely any noticeable alcohol and my husband's two piña coladas were weak as well. I ended up switching to water. My mahi-mahi was way flavorful and garlicky- but that sucker was rock-hard. My husband was in heaven though, savoring his massive, well-seasoned chuleta can-can. I've been back a few more times and will continue to come back. Terruño has proven to be consistent. Over the weekend we returned with some colleagues after a fun office outing at Las Tinajas in Fajardo. This time I went with the grouper ceviche and my wife the coconut rice with grouper. The ceviche was prepared with some passion fruit which was a nice unique touch. I ordered it with mofongo but I think I would have preferred to get it with tostones so I could place the pieces of fish on the tostones. The coconut rice with grouper was excellent. I'd recommend both. I also recommend the arañitas. The order comes with three big crunchy arañitas than can be cut into smaller pieces and shared. Perfect as an appetizer or a side. I know I should try the other restaurants at the Luquillo Kioskos to compare, but it's hard when this place is so good. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped by on our way to Las Croabas, and overall we enjoyed our meal. The place was pretty catered to tourists as it is off a big beach in Luquillo, and had many Puerto Rican classics. We shared a fish dish and the chicken mofongo. The fish was okay, but the highlight was the chicken smothered in garlic sauce. I personally found the mofongo to be a little tougher than preferred, but the chicken was so tender and the sauce super flavorful. Everything was pretty pricey, but you did get a large portion. We were seated in pleasant half-outdoor type of area where a performer was playing guitar and other instruments. Drinks/apps: We of course got a pina colada and a mojito, which hit the spot. I did ask for some waters which the waiter forgot about, but we eventually got them. We ordered some fried queso with guava sauce because we were intrigued by the combination. It was very delicious! The vibe here was perfect for a meal after a long day at the beach. The live music made it enjoyable for all. The service is slow indeed but I wouldn't say it is a con here since that's how it is in almost every restaurant in Puerto Rico that I have been to. I couldn't stop thinking about the Cheluta Kan Kan since we had dinner there the first night we arrived, therefore, had it again. I can't say enough about the pork chops. They had a singer and she was good. I guess they had a famous singer there too. She performed as well. She was really good. Too bad I didn't understand Spanish. Our waitress was ok. We split the bill and she under charged us. So she asked another waitress to help her flag us down so they can ask us to pay an additional $10. She apologized and we were fine paying. So no big deal. It's just that she was the one who split the bill and told us how much we owed. Tried Terruño today and had a mixed experience overall. We ordered the langosta (lobster) in both medium and small sizes--flavor was good, but it felt a bit overcooked for my taste (7.5/10). Served with fries and the fries were a little cold. On the other hand, the mofongo con camarones en salsa blanca was absolutely delicious--great flavor and perfectly done (9/10). Definitely a highlight. For appetizers, the queso frito with guava sauce was amazing--crispy, flavorful, and the sauce paired really well. We also had the stuffed fried sweet plantain with churrasco, which was another winner. It was well prepared and topped with a creamy white sauce that brought everything together nicely. Drinks were the downside. The sangria wasn't very good, and the mango juice tasted watered down and not natural. I wish I could give a better overall review, but that was my experience today. I am originally from Puerto Rico so I knew what I was walking in, we went on December 30 around 7pm and every place was packed with long wait times for table and food. So if you during holidays or popular vacation times , I recommend that you go earlier in the day. We had the sampler and it was delicious , everything item was freshly fried and tasty. We each ordered a stuffed mofongo , we selected the red snapper one , the octopus one, chicken one and steak one. They were fresh , flavorful and all the proteins were tender. 1 star. hard no. there's no way these aren't mostly fake reviews. went to Terruño with my family for lunch and deeply regret it. our server was completely disengaged from start to finish. no warmth, no urgency, no apparent interest in whether we were having any kind of experience at all. the food took over an hour. for lunch. when it finally showed up, it was cold. not slightly, genuinely cold. and tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp that wasn't on. the drinks listed as cocktails were effectively mocktails. if alcohol was involved, it had long since left the building. then came the bill. our server stood over us and asked how much we wanted to tip. i said i'd enter it myself. he told us his machine "doesn't work like that." it works like that everywhere. we selected the minimum and left. nothing about this experience was worth the time or money. caribbean food in this city has a high bar. Terruño clears none of it. skip it entirely. Reply to Owner: Since the owner replied to essentially call me a liar, let me just say that is absolutely ridiculous. The table next to us also complained about the cold food and we talked about it with them. There was also a table of 4 guys on the other side of us who had been waiting for their food almost as long as us. They complained, too. The rice with crab wasn't terrific, but it had some good flavor, just not much crab. The service, well, there are some very attentive waiters here. We just didn't have one of them. There are guys working here, hustling, back and forth between the bar, the kitchen and their tables. Unfortunately, our waitress seemed disinterested. I understand busy kitchens and staff, but simple requests like salt and pepper or garlic sauce took 10-15 minutes to deliver. Amazing Puerto Rican, food, great ambience, and a overall good feel of what Puerto Rico it's all about. I came here twice and had to have the same Mofongo dish. The texture is immaculate, and the flavor is intense, but not overpowering. On the downside, I didn't put five stars because I ordered a passionfruit juice and it was anything but homemade or passionfruit flavor. I opted for water, but everyone else that ordered piña colada and drinks say they were good. Whether your tourist or a local, please make sure to get this place a try.
