Best then your normal resort restaurant. Fairly priced. Staff was friendly but hands off, slight language barrier perhaps. Maybe a little shy at the table. Nice place to eat but nothing spectacular like the breakfast spot at the resort. Food was very good. Different dishes with a puerto Rican base.

We had some friends staying at the resort the weekend before Easter. They invited us to spend the day at the pool. Our plan was to have dinner somewhere in Río Grande or Luquillo, but our friends invited us to join them for dinner at Roots. We were a group of 6 adults and 4 kids. I'm glad we accepted. Roots is a collaboration between local Chef Ramón Carrillo and Chefs Janice Booth and Jeff McInnis, both Top Chef finalists ( Chef McInnis is also a James Beard nominee). Our experience lived up to our expectations. The food was incredible. We ordered the conch fritters and Brussels sprouts to start off. We then ordered several main dishes to share, such as the basked of fried chicken, slow roasted spare ribs, lobster mac and cheese, wedge salad, and buttermilk biscuits. I'd recommend everything, except for the biscuits. I prefer flaky and moist biscuits. These were too dry. It seems they were left for too long. Other than that, everything else was a unanimous hit, especially the fried chicken. We all agreed that was the star. The kids had pizza and were happy. I was too full for dessert, but those who went for it ordered their homemade ice cream. We returned to the resort the next day and tried the oatmeal ice cream, which was good. I'd love to come back. I'm told they sometimes have a whole fried red snapper (chillo frito) and it's worth ordering.

I absolutely loved this restaurant. The food was amazing. We went with some friends and ordered several dishes to share. The buttermilk biscuits were the weakest thing we ordered. I thought they were too hard. Aside from that everything else was delicious. The fried chicken was the best. It was crispy and perfectly seasoned. The ribs, lobster mac and cheese, brussel sprouts, conch croquettes, and wedge salad were all tasty and I'd recommend all. I was too full for dessert but the next day we stopped at the to go counter and I got the oatmeal flavored ice cream. Wow. I was not expecting to love it. I want to return for more.

Wifey & I split: LAYERED WEDGE SALAD (4 - blue cheesy and very good, maybe a tad wet) SWEET POTATO FRIES (4 - you get a lot, that's good. they don't stay crunchy, that's meh) GRILLED SWORDFISH (5 - nailed it. the coconut rice was outrageous, and the fish was rockin' fresh) I started the night with THE ISLAND OLD FASHIONED. (5 - If you like the original, you need to try this.)

Roots costal kitchen is located in the margaritaville by Wyndham PR hotel. The restaurant itself is very beautiful and tasteful decor. When you arrive you park in the parking garage, they do not validate parking. Overall we were very pleased with our meal at roots coastal kitchen. The service was amazing - our drinks were never empty and our food came out quickly. The menu doesn't necessarily say this but it seems that their style is family/sharing style. Highlights definitely included the ribs and the chicken empanadas. I would pass on the Mac and cheese and the dessert. The mac and cheese wasn't the most flavorful and for the price point the portion and quality wasn't thee for me. Dessert was a pass for me as well. The strawberry "angel cake" was not angel food cake at all, it had a chemical taste in the strawberries and topping. The carrot cake also had a chemical taste that I could t quite place. The virgin pina colada was a must get at only $6 and very delicious. Overall we said we would be back to try some more of their offerings :)

Roots Coastal Kitchen was a great choice for dinner one night during our stay in Puerto Rico. The restaurant is located in the Wyndham resort, but you can still eat here even if you aren't staying at the resort. We arrived early and were seated pretty quickly, but I'd recommend making reservations since tables did seem to fill up pretty quickly. The staff was kind, very knowledgeable, and flexible. Our food didn't take too long to arrive. I had the swordfish with coconut rice, curry sauce, and shrimp. The swordfish was tender and cooked better than most restaurants I've been to. I generally avoid seafood when eating out, but this was great. My favorite side was the grits with corn and cheese. It was very rich, creamy, and cheesy which I loved. The watermelon mango tomato salad added a nice bit of freshness to the meal. I liked that it had a hint of chili pepper heat and flavor in the dressing. This place is quite a bit less traditional than a lot of the restaurants in Puerto Rico, but I'd still definitely recommend it to anyone staying on the resort or even nearby in Luquillo.

Save your money, $16 for the drink, $32 for 2 small scallops and 2 tiny pieces of pork belly. The chicken $23 and you get the smallest worst cut of chicken. The employees where very nice and they where ashamed of the over priced meals they where selling. I should have sent it back right away and found another place to eat at.

Fantastic place within the Wyndham resort property! We had dinner here our first night and were quite impressed that we came back another time during our weeklong stay. We sat outside on our first night, enjoyed a couple of cocktails (mojito) while listening to the sounds of the waves. We shared the empanada for our appetizer. We weren't really super impressed with them but we decided to hold off on our thoughts. I had the octopus for my entree and I was not at all disappointed. The octopus was tender and super flavorful! My husband had the shrimp pizza and shared a slice with me. I found it light on the flavor but still tasty. On our second visit, I had the shrimp and grits and loved it as well. I did not finish it during our dinner so I took it back up to my room and had the leftovers for lunch the following day. Heated up well, too! If you're staying at Wyndham Rio Mar Grand resort, this restaurant is one I would recommend trying out!

Amazing ambiance just an absolutely beautiful Island restaurant with great waiters/waitresses providing service. The food was amazing the New York strip was extremely tender and flavorful. The island old fashion was a change of pace from what I am accustomed to to down in Texas, but was super tasty. Overall my experience was great and I will definitely come back here when in Puerto Rico

Not worth the price. Food was mediocre at best and if you are not staying on property, you have to pay additional for parking.

The restaurant is located in the cute Miramar area -- also home to my favorite coffee shop, Gustos! Finding parking on Ave. Juan Ponce de León is not easy, but there are many side streets that had open parking spots. The restaurant was busy the whole time we were there, but there always seemed to be an open table. Our waiter was excellent and all the waiters we saw were bilingual. The garlic bread was ok -- tasted like garlic powder on a fluffy, lighted toasted sourdough. I had the "regular" grilled pork chops and they were the best pork chops I've ever eaten. The taste of the grill was so good and the chops were still pretty moist. My wife and kids had the churrasco skirt streak. My son said the steak at Bebo's was better, but I the steak at Los Pinos was super tender and buttery. The mofongo was so bland we didn't eat it and the amarillos (sweet plantains) were dry and lacked any caramelization on the exterior. French fries were good. As a bonus, I finally got my tres leches and it was good. I've never seen a cake oozing so much "milk" from the top of the cake when it was cut. Overall, a solid place, but Bebo's gets the win for our favorite Puerto Rican food. Regardless, I would easily return here for a meal.

This is right next to another 24-hour restaurant which I also visited, and which is visibly less popular. The air conditioning wasn't working this entire evening, and for most of our visit the power was out. I do realize that's more of a Puerto Rico thing than anything related to this restaurant though, and they were able to keep the food coming (albeit very slowly). My food was a very average pasta of the sort that I could get at a small town restaurant anywhere else in the US. But my friend who is NOT easy to please, absolutely loved that seafood soup. If good seafood soup is a draw for you, you probably should come here and get that. I should also mention that the servers were appropriately contrite about the lack of A/C and power and the overall slowness. Although, as with blackouts, I think servers being genuinely nice is a Puerto Rico thing. Also I thought I remembered seeing it was 24-hours, but maybe it's more like almost-24? Check and make sure maybe.

There is plenty of seating inside the space, including a patio area that is still covered in fenced in. Restrooms available and clean. We were able to get seated immediately, and ordered waters and mojitos. They were AWESOME. My coconut one was super rich and heavy, yet delicious and my dad's fruity one went down too easy. We started with the corn fritters (sorullitos de maíz), served with a ketchup and mayo dip, which were yummy. My dad had the Edelweiss Burger, which was good but the fries were standout! I decided to try their mofongo, and noticed you could get multiple fillings and have it either a bi or trifongo, so I decided on a bifongo with plantain and yuca. I'd never had mofongo before and now I'm a believer. I've thought about it nearly every day since I've been here. I would have loved desert but we were so stuffed we had to call it quits, get a drink to go in a foam cup, and walk along the kiosks' beach. More sit down than some of the other kiosks, but this could be exactly what you need.
