We had a group reservation for 24 people. This was the very worst experience we have ever had in 10 years as a group. The reservation was at 6pm and by 8pm no one had been served. The orders that eventually started coming in were often wrong, and one person even got FROZEN chicken in their enchilada. The manager was clueless and some of us had to walk out by 8:30 cause we had not received our orders yet. They may be good for individuals going in for service but we will never go back with a big group. They should have never agreed to take a large group to begin with since their service and kitchen are not well trained. They were not able to handle us along with their individual guests that evening! read more

We went here for dinner last night and the food was good but the service was awful. After being seated we received our menus and waited about ten minutes before we had a server. She took our drink order, went behind the bar, and started to get drinks out for the whole dining room, which was not full and they had about ten servers on shift. After another ten minutes we received our drinks and she ran off to go tend bar again. A large party who was sat after us was already eating their appetizers and we still did not even get a chance to place our order. I got the attention of a nearby server who kindly took our order, apologized, and then was never seen again. Another 30 minutes and we finally got our food. But we had no silverware and since we weren't raised in a barn, I kindly asked an older gentleman (who we were told was the owners father in law) and he brought us utensil sets but appeared to be very annoyed that he had to break away from his crossword puzzle he was working on at the next table over. After meeting and seeking out half the staff to get anything (food, drink, utensils, the bill) our original server (now bartender and ruder than before) shared that they were a person short and was "sorry we had to be helped by everyone else". But having a short attitude, sneer, and rolling eyes lead me to believe that she wasn't sorry at all and we should have never even been customers there. I have eaten here many times over the years but I feel like my wife and I were treated like their service, garbage. We weren't asking for anything other than what you would expect when you sit at a restaurant: menu, drinks, meal, a visit to ask if everything was good, maybe another drink, bill, and then leave. Everyone on the payroll there treated us like we were invisible and when we did kindly try to get some attention they were angry. Even the owners relative was rude, non caring, and didn't seem to be surprised that we were being ignored. I will never go here ever again and I would suggest everyone else to do the same, especially if you get a date night away from your kids and hectic work schedule finally. My Husband and I decided to get carry-out for Cinco de Mayo and the best place for that is Mojave Cantina in Clawson, MI! So, I called and a Very Friendly and helpful girl named, Crystal answered and told me that Mekayla would call me right back to take my order, and within two minutes, she did. Mekayla was also Very Friendly and even gave me a Great replacement suggestion when I was unable to order a certain food item. The Tofu Salad was Very Yummy!! When we pulled up, Zach came out immediately with our order and was wearing the proper protection gear, and he was Very Personable! We will be back for carry out again!!! read more

Modern mexican restaurant with lots of options for vegetarians. They have a lot of drink selections as well. We tried the guacamole and it was pretty good. The sofritas enchiladas and burrito were good but felt very dry especially from inside. The poblano enchiladas with peppers were very good. Called to make reservations for 7:30pm on a Saturday night. Got there at 7:32pm but had to wait 20 minutes for staff to clear the table when we got there. It was outdoor dining only due to covid. There were 2 servers and 1 bus boy with about 7 tables. Sat at our table next to a fire pit around 8pm. Waited 10 minutes to get our drink order. Our wine finally came about 15 minutes after sitting down. We ordered right away. Our orders came about 20 minutes later. We shared steak and chicken fajitas which were delicious. The server never came by until he came with the check and asked us to leave because we were over the one hour dining limit. They said they were short staffed juggling between Carryout and dining. Clearly there were other patrons who were there before us still at their tables. The table next to us ordered more drinks after finishing their dinner. We never had the opportunity to order more drinks or get dessert. It was rude to ask us to leave when we wanted to stay longer. No one was waiting for a table at 9:30pm. What started as a decent dining experience turned into a disrespectful and rude night. Not going back and will tell others about this experience. I still left a 20% tip nonetheless. Have visited Mojave four times now since they've opened and each trip gets to be more disappointing. It took quite awhile to get the chips and salsa we ordered and I had to ask 3 or 4 times for a side of jalapenos be brought to us. We had to go over and take silverware off another table and get napkins from a station. This is the first time I've ordered fajitas anywhere where the platter wasn't sizzling when it came out. Everything on the platter was wet. I don't see that I can attach a picture to my review but I photographed the puddle of (water?) that was filling up the bottom of the platter. If you like cheese with your fajita, not sure if you can order more but the amount of cheese given for a $16 steak and cheese fajita platter was in a 1.5 ounce ramekin at best. God awful! Michigan gringo Mex all the way. Don't waist your money on this place! Chipotle Mexican Grill has them beat on flavor and I'm not comparing this place to authentic Mexican cuisine that you would find at Mi Pueblos or in Mexico. If I did that... they would get half a star. Let me start with the salsas. Tired three of their salsas and there was really no difference between them none whatsoever with the exception of slight hotness and even then it wasn't anything to mmm about. But what was so gross is the tomato skin that was present in all three salsas. When making a fired roasted tomato salsa you always remove the skin after broiling or fire roasting the tomatoes. Simply score the tomatoes before broiling and the skin pretty much comes off, then discard the skin before blending the tomatoes into the salsa paste. The guacamole, don't bother it's just a mashed avocado with a sprinkler of tomato and cilantro on top. Yikes! On to the food... so I ordered the Tacos Mexicano dinner which wasn't really anything to rave about. The refried beans were obviously from a can, the rice almost tasted like Rice-A-Roni Spanish Rice but that was a hit. The grilled chicken on the tacos lacked the slightest taste of any mexican seasonings or seasoning period. The person that was with me... also from San Diego ordered the Enchiladas. After the first bite she looked at me and said "this tastes like lasagna or pizza", They must of put pizza sauce or some kind of marinara on it. She asked me to taste it and sure enough it was a heavy tomato sauce with lots of oregano which made it taste so much like pizza. To top it off they used mozzarella cheese in and out with a flour tortilla. I'm not going to give you the recipe on enchiladas but they really screwed this one up beyond belief. I would never recommend this place to anyone nor will I ever return. The only reason I'm giving this place a two star is because of the waitress was so nice and apologetic. read more

I met a friend for dinner at 5:00 on a Tuesday. (Nondescript) chips and salsa arrived quickly while I waited for my friend. The server came promptly once my friend arrived....and he kept coming back at short intervals and before we were ready. Keep in mind this was a TUESDAY and the restaurant was not particularly crowded. When we were ready, we both ordered the combination with an enchilada, chimichanga and taco. It came with Spanish rice and beans. To me, all of the food was too salty. The rice was on the mushy side. And I found it odd that a Mexican restaurant would use ground beef; most Mexican restaurants routinely use shredded beef. The portion size was pretty good, and I did take home some leftovers -- which I augmented by making my own non-salty tostadas. The waiter seemed very anxious to be rid of us; he put down the bill before we were actually done eating and came back several times to ask if we were ready for him to take it. In the meantime, we'd seen that they offered fried ice cream, which has always been one of my favorites, so when another person came by to ask how things were (we thought he might be a manager), we asked for the menu back so we could see the dessert choices. The server came back AGAIN (this was easily the 3rd or 4th time) to ask if the bill was ready, and we said that, actually, we wanted to order dessert. He seemed surprised and even a little disgruntled that he'd have to redo the bill. It wasn't like any fried ice cream I've had before. There wasn't much of a crust around the ice cream and thus, it was starting to melt. It was served in a tortilla-type shell, with not much -- if any -- kind of sauce on it. But, there were little mounds of whipped cream with some chocolate around it on the place. All in all, I was rather unimpressed. read more

My friend and I went Monday night, and there was no wait at all, not even for parking.. I ordered the Blackberry margarita, and my friend had the blood orange version. Both were just delightful, especially after a long, hard Monday. Waitress was very friendly and helpful! I had the chimichangas, and it was no problem to ask for one of each chicken and beef. I was thoroughly impressed with them! Nice and crisp and I LOVE that they use the muenster/cheddar blend! so yummy! The rice and beans are just that, rice and beans. We often want cheap food and a buzz, so we go to Grand Azteca on 14 and John R. Open this week, Mojave Cantina has better flavor with less "make your stomach hurt crap"! They make their own beans and rice full of flavor and without the use of animal fats. Five stars. Street tacos had carmalized onions. Delicious and half the price of similar places in Royal Oak. One of the best places in Royal Oak/ Clawson area to have dinner and watch the sunset, but some shades might be a good idea. This is a new favorite. I look forward to summer and hopefully a patio. Huge space and full bar featuring Michigan made products. They are figuring it out wonderfully. Please support small business and Michigan made, dine here. WORST RESTAURANT AND EVEN WORSE MANAGEMENT. I wish there was a "Minus Star" category, as this place doesn't even deserve a single star. Party of 4, and not one of us had 1 good thing to leave with. Began with ordering their top of the line $11, Cadillac margarita's. However, when they were delivered, there was not a hint of the color gold in the drinks, (it was supposed to be made with fresh lime, golden tequila, and Grand Marnier). Throughout my life, I have had hundreds of margarita's, and this was by far the worst, watered down version of a margarita that I have ever encountered. After a single sip, there was a consensus that this drink did not align with the description in the menu, (we thought perhaps that they delivered their low end house margarita in error. We asked our server if we had the right drinks and she sent the Manager over, who was 100% clueless and the only thing worse than the margarita's. He confirmed unapologetically that what we got, was there top of the line margarita, following there process and "people love em'". The server later told us that at 10AM each morning, they make up a mass quantity of a base margarita and then they as the day and night progresses, they just add to that. WOW, really??? If that is the case, then please change the description to align to that cost saving, watered down, no taste process. If you like fruit flies, this is the place you need to be. It's not all that uncommon to occasionally see 1 or 2 fruit flies within a visit, but there were 5-8 of those little bothersome insects throughout 1 & 1/2 hour horrific experience. I took over an hour to get our food after we ordered, and upon arrival, we discovered the food was BLAND... How is it possible for Mexican food to be bland?? We left with a $85.00 bill and were filled with the taste of disgust. I had a positive experience here last night! Stopped up for a friends birthday, by the time I got there from school, the place was empty, and our group of 10 were pretty much the only people in there, so our service was excellent. Alberto (I think) took care of us cheerfully, and I had a Cerveza-Rita...which was great! I also had a queso dip and chips, it was different from what I was expecting..but not bad. I was there with authentic & certified Mexican and Mexican American friends... MA's love this new dive, but the M's thought it was okay, not the most authentic, but they are literally straight from the heart of Mexico, so they gave them their good graces, as nothing is going to be just like home. I did notice things were salty...salty chips, and I did try a bite of the beans, which one of the MA's stated to her cousin the (other MA) that these beans were not like their Grandmas....too salty. The second time I ordered a fajita bowl and was given a rotten avocado.... When I called they offered to fix my problem by having me come back to the restaurant to get a new avocado. This review is meant to be more of a 2.5 stars, but I couldn't bring myself to give it an A-OK rating. We arrived around 5:30-ish on a Sunday evening, and although we were seated promptly, I was doubting our dining choice before I even sat down. First, it was LOUD, not just "people dodging the 90-degree heat and enjoying their margaritas" loud, but "frat boy sports bar with the Tigers in town" loud. Second, our table was crammed so close to the adjacent one, I LITERALLY could not squeeze into my seat until my husband moved the other table's chairs (thankfully uninhabited) without any assistance or apology from the hostess. Normally I wouldn't complain about tables being tight but...when I say "literally," I mean I LITERALLY was unable to squeeze into the two inches of space allowed between the seat back and the table. Thank goodness for my husband's maneuvering, because when that table was seated shortly thereafter, I'm sure I would have been accidentally bashing skulls with our fellow diners. Then we sat and waited for quite a while before a waitress (who was very friendly) approached our table. We both ordered margaritas, and my husband's came out wrong. He gamely told the server that it was fine...at some point, a margarita is just a margarita, and those weren't what we were there for (good thing, since I think the booze was measured out with teaspoons). The chips were good, the complimentary salsa was decent, but luckily we ordered the small guacamole and it was DELICIOUS. The flavor was absolutely excellent, and I'd highly recommend it. I ordered chicken fajitas and I can definitely say they bring you plenty of food, although only three small tortillas. I'm sure they would have brought more if I'd asked, but I was thinking "to-go" at that point. The amount of filling for your fajita vastly outweighs the wrappers they initially provide. My husband ordered a burrito, and said that although it was good, it was nothing to write home about. Two margaritas, small guac, chicken fajitas, and a burrito came to just over $47 before tip. A bit pricey and I doubt we'll be back. I'd recommend it for a happy-hour after-work drinky and guac snack, though. read more

Pass... We eat out a lot and have tried a lot of Mexican restaurants in the area. This one was disappointing. My bf wanted to check this new place out. Nice restaurant/bar area/outdoor seating. Cute decor, large TVs around the restaurant. Location is great. Ample parking. To start off with, we ordered the special bacon guacamole- it wasn't anything special. Tasted better mixed with the salsa. Chips were good. BF ordered the $18.50 steak tampiquena- it was too chewy and his meal was disappointing. The chicken enchilada on the plate was good though. The regular guacamole had too much lemon/lime juice. My BF had to scrape it off his plate so it wouldn't touch anything else. That's how much he didn't like it. (And we both usually LOVE guacamole.) Refried beans were too salty. The rice tasted like it came out of a box. Lucky me, I got the carnitas special for $12. The pineapple mango salsa made it was sooooo good! If we ever came back, it would only be for that dish. And that's why they got a 2 star and not a 1. Waitress- didn't know the tequilas, didn't know the specials, I had to wait 2x for over 5min for drink refills (ps- other waitresses saw my empty cup but didn't do anything about it), forgot a set of tortillas (waitress said they were still cooking them, LOL) and my veggies (which came way late during my meal), and then forgot to bring the bag we asked for for our to go containers. BF wants me to add that the steak knife had to be asked for to go with his steak. We have both waited tables, we think she needs some training. :) read more

I ordered delivery. I'm used to Mexican Village food quality (taste, and overall quality of the purchased foods to make the meals), but I'm also not a person that is overly critical. My sisters would typically get on me for still eating food they deemed nasty, but this was a whole other level. I don't think I've ever given a 1-star review, but this needs to be said. I ordered 2 things, the Mexican Cobb salad with beef ($4 extra), and the Chicken Chorizo Enchiladas, with sour cream on the side (only ordered that to hit the required $30 amount for the promo Uber Eats sent me). All of the Food was NASTY, EVERYTHING was COLD. Very little cheese on the salad (and they used the CHEAPEST cheese, not Mexican quality at all, it was cheap stringy cheese), no seasoning on the beef (Which tasted like tofu, unseasoned TOFU, HOW?!) for my Mexican Cobb Salad. Raw peppers in salad, thought they would've at least sautéed it. I know it wasn't the driver's fault for the food being cold because I was communicating with them throughout the process, and saw when they made it to the restaurant via the app. The Mexican Cobb salad also said it was supposed to come with Muenster cheese as well as cheddar cheese, I did not see or taste Muenster cheese at all. I'm not sure if the roasted poblano pepper sauce for the Enchiladas was supposed to be warm or cold, but it was like a thick dressing, I thought it would be like the texture of a barbecue sauce or something. and that didn't taste good either. NASTY. Imagine having cold cheese on 3 enchiladas, and the cheese doesn't taste like anything. The whole meal was basically empty calories, and a waste of a cheat meal/day. Mojave Cantina is the perfect Mexican restaurant in the area. It's chill enough to get away from the hussle bussle of life. The decor is simple enough to encourage conversations with your party. Their salsa served with warm tortilla chips has a smokey flavor (similar to Miguel's Cantina). It is not spicy, and has just the right amount of heat. They have the perfect size menu, with everyone's favorite Mexican dish. When you order a dish, you also have the option of ordering a side of one of 5 (or 6?) salsas - these vary in heat from mild, to extra hot (pico de gallo, verde, caliente, etc). The guacamole is perfectly balanced, the margaritas are wonderfully tart, and the service is exceptional. read more

My first meal in public, post-quarantine! My friend and I chose this place out of the pure convenience of location. We had no idea how cute of a place we were going to! We were able to sit outside on the back patio under charming string lights. The service was slow due to being understaffed, but they let us know that ahead of time and were very apologetic about it. It's hard to accurately rate a place based on service right now with all of the quick changes that have been necessary to operate. The people who were there working, were running around like crazy. I ordered a frozen blackberry margarita (AMAZING) and enchiladas rojas (also amazing). My friend ordered the buffalo chicken tacos which she really enjoyed. The great food and drinks made up for the long wait and slow service. I would love to try this place again and bring some more of my friends back! It's Saturday night so I called ahead to make reservations for the fam and was told there wouldn't be a wait so we gladly skipped over and were welcomed by the ever-so-friendly staff! We were promptly seated and I couldn't help but fall in love with the whole ambiance of the place. The place was packed and that could only mean one thing- great food! But before I get to that , we have to talk about the amazing service! Our waitress, Cynthia was fantastic! She constantly kept our waters full and was very knowledgeable about their menu. The owners came out and asked how everything was and were actually roaming around and talking to their guest which I love! Like I said, super friendly! They also give you chips and home made salsa which were great! Now about the food- I actually let her pick out my meal for me since I'm not a picky eater and was surprised on the quality of food. I had the enchiladas poblanos with beef and they were superb! Everything from the sauce on top to the side of beans was a great price and great meal. The fam all loved their meals as well.
