Tried an oat milk latte for the first time --- didn't quite taste anything (oats are a pretty mild flavor so Im not sure what I was expecting haha) so I will stick with soy/almond milk next time!! The espresso here was super delicious though, not too bitter but still very fragrant. and I really like the vibes in this very vancouver-esque coffeeshop. Nice, simple clean aesthetic. Their baristas were really nice. And the latte art was pretty too. the turn around for people was pretty good and there were a lot of chairs so it wasn't too hard to find a spot despite it being quite busy. After reading a couple of reviews, I had high hopes for this place. Lots of people complimented how good the coffee was; however, the flat white I order and the latte a friend ordered tasted and smelled like the beans were burnt pretty badly. Not too sure if it was just a bad batch that was roasted poorly, but otherwise, the environment is nice and cozy. read more

Came here with my bf during a Thursday afternoon. Location was very convenient because my bf just lived 5 mins away. Good thing we came here before before everyone got off work at around 130 PM because last time we came here, there were no seats so we left. We managed to find some seats left at the window by the door. The chairs were quite comfortable too because they weren't stools. I had a dark roast drip coffee while my bf had a mocha with soy milk. His mocha was absolutely delicious! It wasn't too sweet, and it had a very good balance of coffee and chocolate. Also, it didn't had that chocolate sauce taste that some other cafes had. It was soo tastey. Their artwork was just lovely too. They had some tasty selections of pastries like their chocolate pecan tarts and a variety of croissants but we ended up sharing their cherry turnover which was so yummy! It wasn't too sweet and the pastry was so flaky. My bf ate it so quickly because he really enjoyed it. He was so tempted to get another one and shove it into his face LOL but he knew he shouldn't. You may have to wait in a short social-distanced line to order, but that just shows you this place is great! Plus, the line moved along quickly and before I knew it I had my oatmilk latte and almond pistachio croissant. Both were delicious! And the service was friendly. I've been watching this space transform since it was a beat up, run down corner store, and it's truly emerged from its chrysalis as a beautiful butterfly! They've completely revamped the place with all new giant windows, an enormous coffee bar (and I mean ENORMOUS), and that typical minimalist, slightly hipster look that seems to be all the rage right now! Bestie and I were out and about on Canada Day, and prior to enjoying a delightful pitcher of joy we decided to grab an iced coffee. As we were walking by here it seemed as good a spot as any so we stopped in. The staff weren't too busy and were efficient and friendly enough. Our decaf iced Americano was quickly ready for us and we decided to just add a drizzle of honey to taste. The coffee was flavourful and did the job! My one point of confusion is why they made the bar quite so large. It takes up the majority of the centre of the shop and while it's eye catching I feel that the space could have been better utilised for more seating. Just my 2 cents on the matter. Please someone remind me to never come here again, because I forgot and came. While the pastries are good, there are never any when you want them (e.g. after 3pm they are sold out) so it's just frustrating. The coffee is good, service is decent. Here's my gripe: there is one particular employee that has made it her mission to drive away anyone "overstaying their welcome" i.e. working on a laptop. The last time I was here she literally came up FOUR times to grab my cup of coffee which was still full, and I had to tell her FOUR times I was "still working" on it. Today, she is literally pacing back and forth with an angry wet mop in her hands shifting chairs loudly and generally seeming to want to disrupt the work of anyone who's here to focus and work with their pastry and coffee. Here's the thing folks. And by "folks" I mean boutique urban cafe owners. I get that you want people to come in and out, jug their coffee, chitchat for 30 mins and clear out. But have you noticed that Commercial has a cafe on every corner? Do you HONESTLY think that you will have ANY customers at all if you made this place inhospitable to working professionals? Yes, people should endeavour to periodically purchase something for the privilege of sitting in your chair and sucking on your (shitty) wifi. BUT if they are already doing that could you please stop HARASSING US? We are who pays your bills folks. We are the bodies that make your establishment look full, cool and happening. Without us you'll be a dead space most of the day. Lord help me remember why I avoid cafes that think they are just better than everybody else. read more

They also bake some gluten free cookies daily and with out dairy, so, huzzah to Moja! *Customer service note, on the first visit we encountered a stuffy, no smile, control freak lady at the counter, but on our return we were greeted by a very friendly young man thus Moja is Redeemed! Great new coffee shop on the Drive. Spacious and bright. Fabulous pastries (by Thomas Haas) and good coffee. My favourite is the pistachio croissant with slivered almonds and a dusting of icing sugar. Definitely raises the bar for coffee shops on the Drive. Friendly staff. Designed to accommodate wheelchairs and pushchairs. You won't feel crowded out. No wifi but that's not a bad thing as it means people aren't hogging seats with their laptops for hours over one cup of coffee. read more

It's weird how I'm semi frequent on the Drive yet I never noticed this place before. Is this new? The place has a lot of seating. There is ample space to stand. Happened across this place googling "best coffee shops to get work done" and came across this place on Vancity Buzz. I don't consider myself a coffee aficionado, but prefer non-bitter, not overly roasted coffee that goes down easy. So, their coffee is flavourful, but less dark and heavy than say Parallel 49. I really like their plain and ginormous croissants. Don't know if they bake them onsite, but I think I read that they're made by Thomas Haas (?). The place has a good feng shui about it - somewhat minimalist and fairly easy to get a seat at the bar or window counter space. It's nice and modern and faces west so you can get decent afternoon natural lighting or sun. It's busy, but I prefer working with ambient noise, so it works for me. read more

I have become quite fond of this place. It's bright, has lots of seating, friendly service, almond milk, quick turn around, and free coffee with a bag of beans. Why is the coffee dressing station so far from where you pick your coffee up though? Just seems like an accident waiting to happen for all of us klutzes out there. This place has become a new staple in my morning routine. I've only gotten their drip coffee so far but their Nicaraguan blend is my favorite. It's the nutty non-acidic type which I need in the mornings. I've also gotten their pistachio croissant which is like biting into a cloud of heaven. It's flaky, fresh, and not too sweet. Highly recommend this pastry. There's a lot of open space in the shop which makes it seem less crowded even though there's always people sitting at the tables working or chatting. They also have a bar area to sit at. My only gripe about this place is their flimsy cup lids. They use recycled materials which is awesome, but their lids aren't very sturdy and can pop right off. Then again, don't man handle your cup of coffee but it still makes me a little nervous so here's my super easy fix: take the lid off. read more

We were on a bike ride to the Commercial Drive area and wanted to stop for a coffee. Thanks, Yelpers, for recommending Moja! It's a big, bright and spacious café with lots of seating, both indoors and out. I ordered the latte and it was really good; reminded me of lattes I've had at Timbertain or Matchstick. My husband said that it was the best Americano he's tasted! High praise, Moja! Staff is friendly and service is efficient. We'll return when we're in the neighbourhood. read more

Moja Coffee's new location is a welcomed change from their original location in North Van. The place is warm and very open but because of that, it can also be very hard to hear the servers. Not sure if they still get their pastries from Thomas Haas or if they do in house (looks like they may just finish it at the location) but the pastries are very delicious. The coffee at Moja is great. They are better than most places in Vancouver, but still not my favorite for beans - toss up between Kafka's and Matchstick. One awesome thing about buying beans from Moja, you get a coffee of your choice...so i mean, if you need to buy beans, it's an awesome bonus! read more

Moja is my new favourite coffee shop. The interior is very hip and minimalistic and it's cool how they roast means right in front of customers.. although last time I went it smelt like they were burning. I love their lattes - the texture of milk is just so MMM. They also put an extra shot more than usual in each drink per size (ex. 8 oz has 2 shots) so I'm super perky after my drink. This is a shockingly beautiful store, light and airy, with the old brick walls and crazy amazing wood doors from the original 1930s build, intact (although moved and enhanced). I've admired Moja from across the street at Cherubim a few times now, and today decided to go in and grab a drink. I was a bit taken aback; it's more beautiful inside. Staff were quick yet took their time to make a truly beautiful drink; this is one of the best mochas I've ever had. The crema from the espresso was like roasted angel wings... Okay I'm getting a bit flowery here... You get the jist. It was really, really good. I can see why this place is busy, constantly sporting laptop hipsters, urban families and overall cool-sounding foreigners. This is the kind of place a writer like myself dreams of... I came here this morning with my boyfriend before he headed into the office. I have to say, this is a very comfortable feeling coffee place. There don't have a huge selection for pastries but the ones we tried this morning was very good. The coffee was really good too. I ordered a regular drip dark coffee and it tastes nice - it was the nice dark woody taste that I like in my dark roasts. Been coming here every Saturday around noon for months. They roast their coffee beans right here and their coffee is delicious. I'm hesitant to tell you how amazing their pastries are, because I don't want this spot to become busier. Tasty coffee (Americano Misto), friendly folks behind the counter, and easy parking at 9:45 am on a Wednesday. It was my first visit and I'll go back, as none of the issues mentioned in other reviews arose for me. I actually empathize with efforts to roust 'long-stayers', but perhaps not the passive aggressive method described by Jesse S. Since there are, as mentioned, many other coffeehouses in the area, maybe said working professionals could consider stretching their legs and moving on to the next corner every hour or so. It's a healthy choice, better for the cafe's bottom line, and pretty nice for those of us who do want a quick sup and sit. PS: I think most folks have caught on to the draw of free wifi, so connected bodies in chairs doesn't instantly imbue either "cool" or "happening". read more

Best coffee in the city! Moja roasts coffee beans to perfection, only roasting single origin beans. They have quite a track record roasting in North Vancouver since early 2000's. Commercial drive is the new location. I have tried all local roasters in greater Vancouver. Definitely my favourite. Friendly staff and well educated on coffee. Go see Nik and try the coffee. I passed by this beautiful coffee shop with a friend when we decided to go in and grab a drink. We let the lady behind us go first while we looked at the menu. Perhaps it's because we "only" ordered a regular coffee, but the cashier was very unpleasant. She didn't ask us what brew we wanted since they had 2 selections; she kept making obnoxious faces even after she dropped my friend's change on the counter; and left the coffee beside her on the counter to make me reach for it. The baristas and other staff were smiling and seemed nice. I don't know what that cashier's problem was. I just wanted to have my fresh coffee and leave but the coffee itself was sour and not the usual dark roast I prefer. read more

I was really looking forward to trying this place. Parking is terrible to find, good luck, I had to circle three times. The coffee is roasted in house and I was expecting excellence. The iced americano I had wasn't anything special, it quite honestly tasted a little strange to me. I don't like my coffee sweet and I wasn't very impressed. Service was poor. They don't have pour over coffee which was fine but the girl at the counter couldn't be bothered to give us the time of day when there was NO one else in line. She clearly didn't want to be there and made sure we felt the same. The actual place has a nice ambiance and the coffee was good.
