Went to a Diwali party that had Moghul caterers. I was quite impressed by the quality of Indian food offered. This place already offers good quality based on being located on Oak Tree Road in Edison, Nj (which is a staple for the best Indian food in the NE). The catering here was next level, however. The servers were very professional. They had these amazing mini idli with sambar. The sambar was flavorful. They also had dosa making machines, servers to make chaat, etc. The back of our venue had a ton of indo-Asian options. Like there was Manchurian, green Thai curry, kimchi, and papaya salad. We worked with Kkunal at Moghul Caterers for our wedding dinner in October. We're so glad we went with Moghul to create a unique and delicious wedding menu for us. The appetizers definitely stole the show, it's been a few months and everyone is still talking about the black pepper baos and lamb seekh kebabs! The main courses were delicious too, with the lamb being a standout item. Working with Moghul catering was probably one of the most stressful parts of our wedding planning experience. Our venue had a limited list of Indian caterers that we were allowed to work with, (Moghul + one other), and since Moghul was the only one that did South Indian food catering, we did not have the option of pursuing another caterer for our wedding. We reached out to Moghul about 10 months out from our date, which is standard for vendor outreach in NYC. From the beginning, timely responses and communication were a struggle - we would have to constantly follow up via email, text and call to get questions answered and things like a tasting scheduled. In addition, costs were not outlined properly up front -- they provide you a few generic package fees, and our contact simply said that we had to pay a 2500 deposit to reserve the date regardless of final event fee, and we had to follow up many times to get a quote specific to our event with modifications to packages, which was only provided with a few days remaining to hold our date. When we received our final quote, it included fees that were not fully explained to us and our contact did not provide a breakdown for what each of these fees was pertaining to. Because of the time pressure mentioned above, we didn't have time to iron out these details and felt obligated to sign the contract so we can have food at our wedding. In addition, because we were booking them for a single meal (vs multiple events over the course of a weekend) they charged us a per person "single event fee" which is not an industry standard and frankly extremely unprofessional. If their standard is only to take multi-event weddings, that should be made clear upfront. We got a quote from another vendor for the same style of service in New Jersey that was a fraction of the cost, but continued to work with Moghul because we liked the food at our tasting, they promised the highest quality of service and were an exclusive caterer with our venue. They also did not provide an estimate on staffing needs, which they require you to contract from elsewhere, which is also not the industry standard for wedding catering When we and our coordination team followed up with them 5-6 months out from our wedding to begin finalizing details, it was impossible to get a hold of our contact, who was a head chef on their team. After contacting management, we were told that he was on vacation, when in fact we learned from his social media that he had left the company. There was no proactive outreach to us to provide a new contact and his departure from the company was never acknowledged to us, and this lack of transparency was extremely unprofessional. While we were assigned a new contact and they were slightly more responsive, it took months of back and forth to finalize the details of what we needed for our event, even though we were extremely clear in writing and over the phone about what option we wanted to pursue. They were constantly trying to have us switch the style of our service to one that would not work with the rest of the logistics for our day, and finally we and our coordination team had to explain to them exactly what needed to be done, which should not have been our responsibility. They were the last vendor to get us information for our rental order and delayed it getting placed. While we understand the wedding season is busy and Moghul caters many events, we were not able to finalize our proposal cost, menu and other details until about 2 weeks out from our event, which required us to take an in-person meeting on a weekday at their offices. No other vendor had not finalized things with us at that point, and we were waiting on required information from them to book staffing, which they do not provide. Their representative also arrived over 30 minutes late to our venue walkthrough and did not have the most up to date information about our event, and left within 15 minutes. Our contact also forgot that we had asked them to coordinate a disposable cutlery order from their wholesale vendor, which we had requested over 4 months prior and had followed up with them on over email in writing multiple times. We had to make it extremely clear after our final meeting that all costs were finalized, as we had heard from another couple at our venue that they requested last minute additional funding the night before their wedding that was not previously outlined in their contract. On our wedding day we were glad that our lunch service was executed properly and that the food was good. However, there were two items that were made differently than what we had requested, and guests meals that needed to be modified for dietary restrictions fell through the cracks, and while the food was still enjoyable, just spoke to a lack of attention to detail.. We went for a tasting this past Saturday and drove up from Virginia. Our decor vendor recommended Moghul to us. The tasting experience was phenomenal. This place knows how to run a restaurant business. Everyone was very sweet from the front end staff to the waiter, even the chef came out to speak with us and the owner. We are very impressed with the customer service. Now coming to the food the taste and presentation was amazing. We ate so many appetizers that we had to take a break for about an hour and a half and came back to eat the entrees and dessert. Everyone was understanding and accommodating. A shout out to the chef Vipul who explained the food in detail and gave us great suggestions. We look forward to hiring them for our wedding. read more

Their manager Rajeev sachdeva takes special pains to make sure that every aspect of the party is taken care of so you dont have any stress. We used Moghul for our Friday night event and appetizers at our wedding on Saturday, and the food and service were absolutely fantastic! We worked with Dimpy and Neeraj to prepare the menu, and they both were professional and easy to work with. As our wedding was not in NJ, Neeraj flew down to Ky to see the venues and plan the equipment, servers they would need. On the day, everything went very smoothly and the food was AMAZING. The guests raved about the food both nights, and it was certainly one of the highlights of the whole wedding. Items that stand out were the biriyani station, lacha paratha made to order, tandoori mushrooms, jalapeno shrimp, and the idli fries were unique and delicious. Highly recommend!!! read more

Our wedding reception was on dec 2, 2018. We had used Moghul previously for my sister's wedding and they did not disappoint. Moghul was amazing every step of the way. Dimpy was our point person and was very kind, patient and thorough. When telling our venue who our caterer was, they were thrilled to know it was moghul. It was clear they had a respected name in this industry. They arrived at a timely manner on the day of the event and were very well organized throughout the event. All my guests raved about the food and service. Many who usually just drink during the reception ate plenty:) our families and guests were more than pleased. After eating at one of Moghul's affiliated restaurants (Mithaas in Hicksville), we decided to stretch our budget to fit Moghul in for our wedding this spring. It was one of the best decisions we made in the entirety of our wedding planning. We worked with Rajeev to work out the details of what we wanted (from Moghul's broad array of menu choices) and took a bit of a chance, as we were so busy that we couldn't even make it out to NJ for a tasting beforehand. But the results were incredible. Our guests were so happy with the food that they couldn't stop eating -- from our baraat breakfast snacks to the South Indian lunch and then the exquisite cocktail hour snacks and reception dinner (with more Punjabi style dishes). We received rave reviews from every single person we spoke to (we served all vegetarian food, yet didn't get any complaints from the carnivores!). Some attendees who flew in from abroad said our wedding had the best food they'd eaten anywhere in the world! The presentation of the food was as good as the taste, and Moghul was generous with the quantity of food as well (all our guests were able to eat to their heart's content). Rajeev and his staff managed everything impeccably (and likely starred in many an Instagram story!). Their interactions with the venue management were flawless, from providing the necessary insurance to coordinating on the necessary equipment and facilities, timely setup and breakdown, and thorough cleanup. Our one regret is that (like many brides and grooms!), my now-wife and I didn't get a chance to eat as much as we'd have liked to (given the hectic schedule and needing to meet people and take photos). But the things we did get to eat were, universally, incredible. If you can get Moghul to cater your wedding, there is no better option out there. read more

We worked with Dimpy and Manan for our wedding and they completely blew us away. They were so easy to work with and had the best suggestions. The day of our wedding, they did an incredible job of setting everything up. If you are planning a wedding or event DO NOT use this caterer. My wedding was cancelled due to hurricane irene and they refused to refund a large portion of the money I prepaid them even though they will file a claim and be reimbursed for said expenses and loss of business through their insurance company. This was the worst catering service we have ever experienced. While they were responsive over email, the day of the event was a total disaster. We specified in our contract that we would like the food delivered by 6 PM. However, the caterers arrived at 3 PM. The two people who came to deliver the food told us they were instructed the wrong time. Given that it was nearly 90 degrees outside, we advised them to return back so the food does not get spoiled. From what we gathered, the drivers did not go back and may have stayed in another parking lot, while the food rotted in the back. When it was time for the delivery, the event had already started. They then asked for hot water to place underneath their trays. Because of this, a few of our guests were forced to help out and not enjoy the event. Additionally, when they were done placing the food on their respective trays, they simply left. They had not taken off the aluminum covering and they kept the plastic shrink wrap on the food. By the time it was dinner, we came to see how it was left. As a result, we had to unwrap the food and a few people cut themselves from the sharp aluminum and burned their fingers taking off the shrink wrap. This was THE WORST catering experience we have ever experienced. Do yourself a favor and look somewhere else. My advice would be to stay away from these large restaurant groups as they are driven more by profit than a satisfied customer experience. read more

The most professional caterers I have ever experienced. They saved my big day. I had to find a last minute caterer for my wedding reception two weeks prior to my event. They were thankfully available but even more than that they were absolutely easy to work with. They gave me everything thing I wanted and more. My event had 600 very happy and full guests. If they recommend something listen to them. They know food. They are number 1 in the industry for a reason and if you choose them as your caterer you will never be disappointed. Moghul catered my daughter's sangeet. The food was excellent -- the North Indian as well as the Indo-Chinese. The food appealed to everyone, Indians as well as non-Indians. Everyone commented on the distinctive flavors of the various dishes. Also worth mentioning is the high level of professionalism. It was a large group (200+) and everything was managed flawlessly. The manager Mr. Vig was knowledgeable and caring. From our very first meeting we felt comfortable knowing he was in charge.
