Mogan's Oyster House was a great find by my wife as we were heading home from Virginia via the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel through the DelMarVa Peninsula instead of fighting traffic on I-95. The downtown area of Salisbury and the restaurant were quiet on a Tuesday afternoon when we stopped for lunch. I'm always up for some good seafood and Mogan's is perfect. The service is great and the menu has way more choices than I expected. They have a very substantial beer and wine selection, but we had to get back on the road, so I just had to settle for a sweet iced tea. Our server informed us that Tuesdays is BOGO Lobster Roll Day and who can refuse that? The Lobster Roll is served with fries, normally for $28, but then we get 2 for 1 just because we picked a nice day! The fresh lobster meat was tenderly poached, the roll was nicely buttered and the fries were hot and crispy. We were pretty hungry from being on the road, so we ordered the daily lunch special instead of an appetizer to share, which was a Fish Sandwich, a cup of Veggie Chili and a cookie. The tasty fish was crispy fried and topped with tartar sauce on a bun. The chili was pretty good with plenty of beans and corn in a tomato base. My regret is that we won't have more chances to try all the good things on the menu because this is so out of the way for us. I really want to have some oysters, both raw and cooked. But who knows in the future if we ever come back this way again. Maybe a trip to Ocean City?

Central downtown location in Salisbury, it offered fine seafood and a classic setting. Prices were comparable to similar restaurants. Service was courteous. I would come back again. We ordered: 4*Buffalo Fried Oysters: the oysters were served with some kind of Mexican spicy sauce. I loved it. 3.5*Grilled Oysters: they were kind of bland. 4.5*Lobster Roll: plenty of lobster meat. I switched french fries to Cesar salad: salad was also fine. Fresh and clean, better than most other restaurants.

Dill pickle cheese curds

Service was great and so was the food. I really liked both the fried cheese curds and the seafood Newburg.

We had Saturday lunch - not at all crowded, but the food was excellent, the service great, and the beer cold. We had the Rich Boys at our server's rec - the oysters were fresh breaded and fried and the shrimp jumbo and tasty. Seems like a hidden gem for a weekend meal, when parking is plentiful and free and there's no wait for a seat. We will be back!

They have a good selection of beer and I tried the Grapefruit Shine which I really enjoyed. I had the Ultimate Chicken Sandwich. It was a fried chicken breast on a roll with bacon, cheese and Old Bay aioli. Three of us ordered this and we all thought it was really tasty and my husband enjoyed his Hot Honey Chicken sandwich. But be warned it is messy. So yes food was good so why the four stars instead of five unfortunately it was our service. Even though we ordered our appetizer, a Bavarian pretzel ahead of time it did not come out until our meal. And yes this can be timing from the kitchen. But we hardly saw our server, her section for the evening was so spread out that she was not attentive to us. We will still go back just hoping our service will be better.

And because we are a Responsible Professional Company we were on-site 15 hours early. Imagine my delight when I saw that the receiving building shared a lot with a brewery teehee. Truck stop tacos for dinner? - I think not. Now in other reviews you know how I feel about breweries without food. Not the case here - pizzas, sandos, pretzels, salads, wings. And the beer list?? Multiple sours for me, hazy IPAs for he, and pumpkin flavored beer to usher in autumn. After that huge setup all we got were fries and beer lmao. The point is we COULD HAVE gotten more if we wanted it. Fries were hot and crispy. The pumpkin beer was incredible. And of note, the actual restaurant space was huge. With Rona numbers on the rise, we opted to sit outside on the huge patio. All in all, def worth a visit especially if you're in nearby Assateague or similar attractions and are tired of crabs lol.

Lets begin with the atmosphere because it was delightful. Its a small, intimate space where the spirit of a speakeasy shines through easily. The exposed ductwork, the classy yet eclectic decor, it is a delightful little space. Service was great. Fast, funny, and polite through the entire meal. We went for drinks and apps and I gotta say we will be coming back for dinner for sure me and my wife. How about the food and drink? Well, any of y'all who follow me know I'm not a huge drinker, but I did try the Oolong Hot Toddy and was extremely happy! Warm, the sochu and tea mix so well together, a nice garnish of candied ginger and lemon makes the presentation of this delightful little libation. (Ha, a pun!) Now, the food. Cheese board was great but, thats cheese anyone can assemble a cheese board. No, my credit goes to the crab dip and the calamari. Both dishes were done perfectly, not too greasy, beautifully crunchy calamari and supremely flavorful crab dip. Overall an easy 5, I'd rate 6 if I could.

Make reservations as this is a small space. Very comfortable seating. Lots of decor that again fits the space. Great music playing as well. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and then escorted back into the speakeasy which has its own door. Once inside, we were greeted and introduced to the two servers who worked together all evening. They were very attentive and friendly. They made the visit enjoyable. The menu lights up... literally. Super fun to pick from the numerous drink and food options. For a speakeasy, you will be surprised at how many different options there are. The prices are beyond reasonable for the craft cocktails and amazing food. Started off with cocktails (first round) - Veruca Salt (highly recommend due to its spicy foam & deliciousness), Purple Butterfly (yum), The Ultimate Dirty Martini (very pungent), and The Smoked Cherry (nice presentation/event - also tasty). All of these were delicious and made well. Second round was The Night Shift and a Brown Butter Old Fashioned and again, both delightful. Dessert round was Creme Brûlée Espresso Martini (highly recommend - great presentation with a small mallet that cracks the brûlée on top & absolutely amazing - this is a sweet drink so loom as a dessert option), Espresso Martini (hazelnut flavor and good), and a Carijilo. All items from the bar were super tasty and well made. This is a craft drink place and the quality and attention to details are spot on for the speakeasy vibe. Not only are the drinks superb, but the food is also very well made and very affordable. We started with the cheese tower which is a great option for a group to enjoy. We also ordered the calamari which came with the most delicious horseradish dipping sauce, and lamb lollipops (4 per order). All of this was delicious. Then, tried the seafood bisque, French onion soup, Pumpkin/Crab/Mushroom Soup, and Seared Sea Scallops. The soups were super filling and all had a terrific flavor profile. The scallops were served on risotto and this was great. Seriously, the food is amazing. Not what you normally would find in a speakeasy. They even had dessert options (we had drinks instead). This was a lovely experience. Just overall fantastic and a great surprise hidden in a beach town. For sure make reservations. If visiting for the week, just go ahead and pick two nights to visit so you can try all of the things. Well done. Looking forward to another visit.

As you can see from my more than ten past reviews over 4 years and my last review in August 2025…read morethis is now one of my top three happy hour restaurants during the off season. I will summarize my four most recent happy hour off season visits. We were first here at the bar with my six family and friends. Well finally the off season happy hour half price dinner entrees have finally returned here starting around mid October with pretty much the same entrees and menu as last year. They subsequently updated the half price entrees in early November. All items have pretty much returned here except for some new entrees. The good news is that at least two new half price happy hour dinner entrees were added including the surf and turf with espresso encrusted 4 ounce demi filet mignon with two skewered shrimps, yukon mash, tomato garnash with blue cheese in the middle of the tomato for $40 or half price for only $20. I never had espresso encrusted filet mignon, therefore I ordered and enjoyed mine medium rare. I could barely taste the encrusted espresso. I ended my dinner with my favorite Fiddlehead's draft honey porter for $6. My total bill was $111 with half price discount of $36.50 so my final bill was $77. On my second return I enjoyed my ahi tuna rice bowl with broccoli, ginger fried house rice, sprouts and ginger vinaigrette for $36 or half price for $18. My total bill was $72 excluding gratuity. On my third return I again enjoyed the espresso encrusted 4 ounce demi filet mignon, which I had ordered medium rare, but was over cooked to medium. I did not complain about returning my filet for a replacement, however I did show it to bartender Dennis. Next time I will order my filet rare. On my fourth return I enjoyed my usual cosmos and my ahi tuna rice bowl which was always properly cooked ahi style. Bartender Dennis always remembers I prefer a little extra spice, without me even asking for my Sriracha. Dennis recommended both of the above entrees. See my most recent pic of the new menu. Chef Cowan waved to me at the bar. Bartender Dennis served us very well supported by our usual excellent recommendations and conversations. Chandra and Cameron also said hello. The staff here are very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. On Black Friday I purchased another $1k in gift cards for the off season from Off The Hook and Hooked in OC. Needless to say we will continue to return here for happy hour to spend our $1k.

Now we know why it's tough to get a seat; this is quality dining that brings customers back again and again. Ben and Diane (mixologist/hostess respectively) have been the owners for two years. I can't make any judgement about the prior ownership but I can say the current owners have nailed it. It was one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time. We sat at the bar and from the outset Ben made us feel comfortable and he obviously appreciated us as customers. The cocktails were exceptionally prepared. It's obvious he is not merely a bartender and is proud of the special attention and customized twists given to some very traditional cocktails--Sazerac, Manhattan, cosmo. The cream based crab soup was hearty and the seasoning was well balanced. It was a great start. My partner had the fish special and I had the short ribs as entrees. Both were spectacular. Ben had told us that "if this were going to be your last meal, have the short ribs." It wasn't our last meal but his assessment was accurate. I can't recall having short ribs that just seem to melt in your mouth. We were going to defer on dessert but opted for a variation of a flourless chocolate cake with caramel topping. Served warm it was the perfect end to a perfect meal. It's obvious that Ben and Diane have assembled a team that is as committed to excellence as are the owners. We've already made reservations or our next visit. Can't wait!
