I recently visited Mofongo in Little Havana for lunch, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. Drawn in by the positive Google reviews and the prospect of trying Puerto Rican cuisine for the first time, my husband and I eagerly decided to give this place a shot. We opted for the mixed sampler, enticed by the idea of sampling a variety of dishes, and at a cost of $33, we anticipated a fulfilling experience. Upon seeing the traditional dish, mofongo, being served at nearby tables, we were intrigued and decided to add it to our order. The waiter, although friendly, had limited English proficiency, which was not an issue in itself. However, the real problem arose when he failed to inform us about the portion sizes. Typically, restaurants advise patrons if their orders might be excessive, but unfortunately, this crucial information was omitted in our case. As the sampler platter arrived, we quickly realized its sheer enormity. With our Little Havana tour just around the corner, we hurriedly called the waiter over to cancel the mofongo order. Surprisingly, he explained, using Google Translate, that the kitchen had already begun preparing the short rib meat for the mofongo. This baffled us, as the sampler had taken a mere 20 minutes to arrive. Nevertheless, we assumed the mofongo would arrive shortly, giving us ample time to enjoy it without feeling rushed. To our astonishment, we found ourselves waiting an additional 20 minutes for the mofongo to finally make its appearance, despite repeatedly inquiring about its whereabouts. With the clock ticking and our tour looming, we were left with no choice but to take the mofongo as a takeaway. This experience was disappointing, as we felt misinformed and taken advantage of due to the language barrier. Adding to our dismay was the revelation of a mandatory 18% gratuity for bills exceeding $50, a detail that had not been disclosed upon entering or on the menus. This final blow left a sour taste in our mouths, overshadowing whatever merits the food might have held. In the end, while the food itself was enjoyable, the overall experience was marred by miscommunication, excessive waiting times, and undisclosed fees. Given the inconvenience and disappointment we encountered, I regrettably cannot recommend Mofongo as a dining choice in Little Havana. We found this place on Google and decided to stop by and we are super happy we chose it. From the minute we walked in, we were greeted by everyone's friendliness. Our waiter, Andres was the best! He was very helpful in helping us choose our meal, very knowledgeable of the menu and what sauces to pair with our Mofongo. We decided to try their Trifongo for the first time which we learned is, plátano maduro, plátano verde and yuca. It was DELICIOUS!! We also had Alcapurrias for an appetizer which was the first time we had it, it was perfectly paired with MayoKetchup. This place was by far better than what we had in Puerto Rico, I highly recommend this place and make sure you ask for Andres as your server !!!! Excellent, authentic Puerto Rican restaurant that was willing to accommodate 15 of us (with kids in tow) on Valentine's Day for dinner. They apologized for the wait and immediately upon seating us the manager came to let us know that the kitchen was taking a little longer than expected due to the crowds. We very much appreciated the heads up. They brought delicious plantain chips on the house while we waited and the wait was much shorter than anticipated. The staff was all working hard and working together. The skirt steak (and mojito) was to die for and the prices were right. At the end of the meal they brought a delicious shot for the four adults that was on the house. Amanda, our server was polite, informed, fun and communicated everything well with us. I finally made it to the restaurant after hearing all the wonderful reviews and I have to say I was truly impressed and felt homesick while being there. The atmosphere was welcoming, while I was at the restaurant I forgot I was in Miami and the food was out of this world. I got to drink my medalla and eat my alcapurrias and I truly was taken back to my beautiful island. The service was great, the waiter, his name is Franklin was courteous, friendly and attentive. Had a nice and big smile and the food was to die for. I LOVED, LOVED that the waiters and waitresses were wearing traditional outfits. My sister and I were taken back to our childhood and only wished our parents were there with us to enjoy that moment. I'm writing this as I'm still in the restaurant. My husband and I are celebrating our five year anniversary and we've searched for Puerto Rican restaurants all week and made reservations for this one. We were not disappointed. We had the classic mojito, parcha mojito, coconut mojito and Sangria to drink and they were all delicious. For dinner, I had the "plato tipico" which came with arroz con gandules, pastele and fried meat. My husband had the carne Frits mofongo... each plate was sooooooo good. It had that authentic taste. I felt like we were in Puerto Rico. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good, wholesome food. The environment, the music, the decor was amazing as well. My family and I had such a great experience at mofongos! The food was spectacular!! And not only was it pleasing to the eye, it came out in a timely fashion and was DELICIOUS. Our server Andres was very accommodating, friendly, attentive, and welcoming. He made sure to check up on us and gave us amazing recommendations. Although part of the table only spoke English, Andres went out of his way to make sure he was able to help and serve them as best as possible. The language barrier wasn't an issue at all (for anyone). All the workers were kind and charismatic. English and Spanish reviews for everybody: Mofongo's at Calle 8 has that Puerto Rican flavor you can find in all of the top-rated restaurants in Puerto Rico. The mofongos are (obviously) exquisite, their fried fish is at the top of their game, and their hefty portions will fill you up for days. Every time I've been there I've been treated with warmth and kindness. Special shout out to Franklin, I ordered a Rubia and he brought me two! Im not Puerto Rican and not an expert on this food, but my group of family and finicky friends really enjoyed the food. It was freshly made, reasonably priced and generous portions. The kitchen was a little slow, probably due to the rush around Christmas when I was there, but the servers were very friendly and helpful, our main server Yoselin was great. Its a loud, fun, cozy family restaurant with great atmosphere. We were almost full after some good tropical drinks and several appetizers, so we shared a large family style dinner and could not eat it all. I would recommend it to people searching for a new place and get out of the same old food routine, try this fun place with reasonable prices. From the second we walked up to dine in, we were welcomed. The hostess ensured us a seat/table in 15-20 minutes flat on a busy Friday evening. While we waited we were ushered to the bar to view their menu to enjoy a drink while we wait. While we chose a drink of our choice we were given a sample of their very own "coquito." We ordered two pina colada's- DELICIOUS! We were seated, as promised in 20 minutes, tops. Amanda was our server, she was very friendly, aware of the menu and gave us great suggestions, and steadily prompt with our service while dining. I loved loved loved this place!! I'm from Puerto Rico and live in Miami. Been wanting to visit and finally came on Good Friday. The service was awesome and super attentive. There's literally at least four or five waiters waiting to assist you. From the water to appetizers to the jugo de parcha and the piña colada inside the pineapple, super gooood!! The service was on point. The waiters were extremely attentive and constantly checked on our table to see if we needed anything. The waiters wore masks the whole time and disinfected the tables after every customer stood up. Our main waiter Yasmany made sure that we had everything we needed and was an amazing part of our experience. The food was also off the chain. The chicken tostones were probably our favorite appetizer. My family got the mofongo that comes out in a huge portion and they loved the meal. Definitely an amazing place to eat at and the live music from next door was also a nice touch. We will for sure be going back. This was our first time in Miami and of course at Little Havana. We tried some Cuban food here and there but we were looking for something different and to our surprise this place was awesome. Tasty food and friendly staff (Great customer service by all staff) We were greeted immediately upon arrival by this Cuban guy ( forgot his name but great guy). Yoana was our server and she's the best... we weren't familiar with Puerto Rican cuisine and she recommended a sampler plate which we love. We went here for the first time on Saturday and the food and service was outstanding. Our server was Dainisha and she was great and made sure we always had what we need and offered us some suggestions since it was our first time. We ordered the stuffed tostones for an appetizer which were delicious. I had the skirt steak and my wife had the plato tipico. The rice and meat on both plates were cooked and season perfectly. We also shared a mofongo with chicharron. If you get a mofongo you have to try the garlic butter. At the end we had some coquito which is one of the best I've had. So delicious!!! Yoana was our server she was very attentive. It was my first time in Mofongos and wow!! Never had puertorican food before and all I can say is that I love it now!! Mofongo is so fire!!! I had the shrimp Trifongo which has maduro, platano verde and yuca with a garlic sauce 20/10!!! They serve a lot is very tasty!! Definitely coming back. They also had live music!! Service was amazing. Very clean! Spacious everyone had their mask one! Something I noticed is that in each table they put a paper mat on top of the table which they replace with each customer! First I would like to start off saying the staff at Mofongo were very professional, courteous and amazing. We had a party of six and our waiter Dairon was very helpful with helping us choose our meals and very friendly with our grandson. The food and sangria were delicious. My grandson had the non alcoholic pina colada which he couldn't stop drinking. He said it was delicious. My family and I were there for a birthday dinner. Darion and the staff sang happy birthday to my husband. The ambiance was great and lively from the minute we entered the restaurant and when they started singing happy birthday.
