food is great and service is quick and fast. the ambience is great and what you would think of a hole in the wall.

I am very hesitant on getting food from any restaurant that's next to a truck stop but I am glad I decided to see what Moes was about because as soon as I opened the door I knew I was gonna love it. The staff was friendly and informative I went in on a Tuesday which is the only day they do brisket and let me tell you brisket is my favorite item to order at bbq places and not all briskets have been good but Moes is definitely my favorite brisket it had some good smoke flavor great bark and the sauce is nice and tangy if I'm being honest the brisket is a 10 but the sauce is a 9 and it just comes down to preference. I can't even choose one star of the show though because the jalapeño toasted cornbread was a knockout the cheese grits were good the Mississippi mud pie was great overall I hope I'm passing through again because that kind of bbq that executes well at every level does not happen everywhere!

First time eating at this location. I've ate at the one in Huntsville. I enjoyed it. I had the smoked wings platter(buffalo). It comes with two sides. I got baked beans and mac n cheese. My meal was very good. Good flavor on the wings and the sides were very good. Only negative which really isn't a knock on this place, just my issue is they don't have a kids menu. My 7 year old is picky about what he eats and there wasn't anything here that he eats. Like I said, that's not a knock on the restaurant, I enjoyed the food very much. Would definitely recommend and I'll eat here again

Decent food, but better BBQ in town. The atmosphere is not bad, but not into their BBQ.

Also came with the slaw on the top - good. The pork was tender and well-trimed, but I didn't catch much smoke. We had a side of fries, they were nice and fat, but not super warm. We had a side of green beans. They were a little overcooked but had a nice flavor, with a slight bit of a pickled flavor. Good value for the price.

This place has been holding it down since 1963, and they've got the plaque to prove it, proudly posted as a member of the Alabama Barbeque Hall of Fame. When you walk in, it feels like you just stepped into a time capsule where calories do not count and everybody knows how to properly pronounce "slaw." The ambience absolutely screams old school BBQ joint. Wood paneling. No nonsense tables. The kind of place where you half expect your uncle to be in the corner arguing about college football. Now let's talk food, because that is why we're here. The pulled chicken? Outstanding. Tender, juicy, packed with flavor. It showed up ready to win. If it ran for office, I would vote for it. That chicken understood the assignment. The BBQ chicken had that beautiful crisped skin that makes you lean in like, "Oh yeah, this is about to be serious." But then it hit the plate a little under seasoned. The sauce was on the thinner side too. Not bad, just more "light drizzle at a picnic" than "bold backyard pitmaster energy." And let me take a moment to publicly thank the potato salad. Special shout out. Creamy, balanced, and clearly made by somebody's grandmother who does not measure anything and does not need to. All in all, Johnny's is a solid four stars. Historic, nostalgic, and when they hit, they really hit. I'll be back, mostly for that pulled chicken and potato salad combo that had me considering a second plate and a nap.

Oh my God. Some of…read moreyou may know that I am a phenom in the smoke pit, and also if you go through my reviews you see that I frequent barbecue places all over the country. Probably one out of every four or five actually make the cut. This is one of them. Place was packed, and they close at 3:00 so you need to get your butt in there or you'll miss out. They had a separate dining room that had a private event, and then the main dining room for all of us hungry little festerlings. They've won top barbecue awards 4 years in a row, the decorations are nice, everything about the inside is nice and warm. I walked in, and was immediately greeted and told us just sit wherever I'd like to so I grabbed the first table I was next to. They say everything's bigger in texas, and I've been to plenty Texas barbecue joints, but they ain't bigger than THIS 'Bama spot. Ho-ly cow. The waitress got my drink and took my order. I ordered fried pickles as an appetizer, which I absolutely did not need. I also ordered the five meat plate with three sides. I walked in there, not have eaten all day, so I was pretty damn hungry. I got so full, I was considering calling a cab to drive me back across the street where I'm staying. I digress.... Shortly after ordering she came to my table with homemade chips. Literally some of the best I've ever had anywhere. Then my sides came, then my plate came. My GAWD what did I just order!? The amount of food that you get for the price is just amazing. My fried pickles were eight bucks, and my platter was only 26 bucks but seriously, it can feed two people and still have leftovers to take home. I left with two boxes of leftovers that I'll be able to eat on for the next 2 days easy. I ordered smoked ham, smoked turkey, pulled pork, SLICED brisket (the way it is SUPPOSED TO BE made, none of that chopped crap) and REAL pork ribs. None of that "fall off the bone" nonsense that these low budget wannabe BBQ places advertise, that always end up just being steamed and then tossed in an oven or electric smoker. All my meats were outstanding. The brisket was tender, the ribs were on point, the turkey was outstanding. Okra was normal, I wasn't too big of a fan of the turnip greens, but my sweet baked potato was ridiculous! In a good way! My server was super nice, they were super slammed and she still managed to chit chat a bit with me. All in all, my meal came to 40 bucks. And like I said, I have two PACKED styrofoam to go containers. I'm really glad I walked over here. And I'm really glad that this place knows what barbecue SHOULD be. There's a lot of restaurants I've been to, that could take notes from this place. This is only my second time in Dodge City, but when I come back here, I'll definitely be coming back for more Chow! Jim 'N Nick's provides complimentary, wonderful cheddar biscuits with sweet butter to start and they are delicious! I ordered the smoked turkey sandwich with white sauce and it was excellent. The white sauce is tangy and complements the turkey nicely. The sides: the mac and cheese was expect. Absolutely recommend it. I added a loaded baked potato (sans bacon) and it was loaded nicely with cheddar, green onions and sour cream, but the potato itself was cold. If delivered hot I'd likely recommend it. I decided to make the best of it despite the lack of heating. The service was friendly and excellent, and because of that I didn't stress about the cold potato. And I was plenty full anyway. Jim 'N Nick's provides a lot of seating options, the interior has sit down tables and booths with high ceilings. It's pretty roomy for a larger groups. There's also a patio with coverage from the sun so you can eat outside if you'd like. Highly recommended.

Hot and fresh cheese muffins with butter were waiting for us when we arrived! The crunchy ice is my FAV with unsweeet tea. It was tasty but the portion was pretty small for a grown man. He helped finish my meal (as always) and ate a few extra cheese muffins to tie him over. Waitress was super sweet and Eve got us some tea and waters for the road trip! Clean bathrooms and friendly staff. Will definitely be back!

There were only three cars in the parking lot and three occupied tables, yet there was no hostess, no one at the register, and no employee acknowledging customers as they entered. My wife, granddaughter and I stood waiting at the front for what felt like forever. Eventually, I noticed a server stand up from a booth, grab her apron, and disappear into the back. I assumed she was putting away her meal and would be right back to seat us. She never returned. After standing there another three or four minutes without so much as a "We'll be right with you," we walked out. As we left, I told my wife, "No wonder there are only three cars in the parking lot." Good barbecue may bring people in the door, but terrible customer service sends them right back out. If the owners are wondering why business is slow, they might start by making sure customers are acknowledged when they walk through the front door. It costs nothing to say, "We'll be with you in just a minute." Based on this experience, Williams BBQ lost two customers before we ever had the chance to taste the food.

Not wanting to wait until we got back to Birmingham to get some grub, we pulled off in Dodge City looking for a spot that had a few solid reviews. Alas, the place we sought was no longer around, and Jim B's BBQ was the only thing around that looked acceptable. We decided to take a chance on the place (even though the sign reads Jim B's BBQ, Steak and Seafood, and I typically steer clear of anyplace that claims multiple specialties that includes seafood). We might have skipped the place over, but I was hungry and as we pulled up, you could smell the BBQ in the parking lot. Being first-timers, the friendly waitress steered us to the Loaded Mushrooms (think loaded baked potato, but instead of a potato under all of that cheese and ranch and bacon, its fried mushrooms). They were as good as they sound. The prices were so cheap and the BBQ smelled so good, I decided to go all-in and got the BBQ sampler platter. My wife picked the pulled pork sandwich. Everything was great. The baked beans were even awesome (sweet and bacony), and I'm really not a huge bean fan. The BBQ pork had a good smoke flavor. The chicken was juicy. The smoked sausage was good and seemed to be very fresh. The ribs were a little dry, but they were very tender. To top it all off, with as much food as we ordered, our bill was just over $30 including tip. The dry ribs are the only thing keeping them from five stars on this visit. I'm probably spoiled by all of the good BBQ in the South, but I just can't give five stars to a BBQ joint unless all of the que is top notch.
