We just finished having our wedding in Austin and worked closely with Mandy on day of wedding coordination. From the first moment we got on the phone, we knew she would be great. First off, Mandy's experience means she thinks of all the small details you might forget. In the weeks leading up to our event, she came to us with small questions that had a big impact. She also did all the background work to organize details like flower delivery, scheduling conflicts and floor plans for the caterer. She was also able to help with a few etiquette questions that we had - always a plus. For the rehearsal, that attention to detail had her even pointing out small details like moving a microphone so people could see us kiss. She came to the hotel to drop off and pick things up in advance. She made herself available during the process via email, phone and text - all the ways we like to communicate! My daughter selected Mandy MIllican as her wedding coordinator to help corral her wedding arrangements from Chicago on 10/6/12. Cost: Approx $1000, and I have to say it was the best $1000 we could have spent. Her services included coordination and timing of all of a moderate-sized wedding at a top-of-the-line venue, photographers, caterers, wine, etc. as well as keeping everything moving on the day. She was knowledgeable, reassuring and cheerful during the rehearsal and Day. Let me start by just saying Mandy is amazing - as a wedding coordinator & as a person. It was a genuine pleasure to work with her on my wedding in May. I never thought I would hire a wedding planner but I got married at a relative's home & figured I might need an extra set of hand. I can't emphasize enough how happy I am that I hired Mandy. I thought working with a wedding planner would be stressful & honestly figured it would add a lot of steps to the small friends & family wedding I had pictured in my head. Oh man, where do I even begin? When I got engaged, I knew it was essential for me to get a wedding planner because I was having a 400 person crazy Bollywood Indian wedding! And trust me, I'm an event planner myself with very knowledgeable and capable skills, but thank goodness we didn't try to cut corners and attempt to handle everything on our own. I am so incredibly thankful I hired Modern Whimsy for our wedding. Up to a couple months before the wedding, I wasn't planning to use a coordinator, because I am organized and felt I had things well under control, and didn't really want help from someone who might not understand us as a couple. Also, I was skeptical of it being worth the money. I was planning to have my mom take care of a lot day-of, but she ended up needing major surgery with recovery until the week of the wedding, so I needed to find assistance elsewhere. After selecting Modern Whimsy due to the great reviews, I met with Mandy and was immediately so relieved to have her help. She suggested improvements to our timeline that made so much sense but I never would have thought of, and she created a layout and rain plan with very helpful details I would have missed. Leading up to the wedding, knowing she was checking in with our vendors was such a relief, and looking back I have no idea how I would have pulled off a successful rehearsal without her help. During the rehearsal so many people started asking me questions and it was so great to just be able to say "Ask Mandy". Then the day of the wedding arrived, and Mandy's rain plan proved its worth. I had planned for the reception to be outdoors but crazy storms that day weren't going to cooperate. She set up the reception décor beautifully in our backup indoor space, and to my surprise it looked even better than I had pictured in my head for the original outdoor plan. Then right before we were supposed to cut the cake, we received alerts that we needed to take cover immediately due to tornados in the area. Again Mandy took command of the situation and calmly but swiftly guided our 100 guests to a safe space at the venue with no windows, and we ate cake and drank champagne in the basement. Of all the things to plan for tornados were not on my radar, and without Mandy, I am sure there would have been disorganization and stress and panic. Instead with Mandy's help, it was just another memorable part of an amazing day. She pulled everything together flawlessly for the best wedding I could have imagined. I hired Modern Whimsey for day-of wedding coordination back in October, and I couldn't be happier with the way things turned out. Mandy was super responsive from the day I signed on with them, always available to answer my questions and talk to me on the phone about my plans (I planned the wedding from out of state). Cara was the person on the ground on the day of the event. She also helped out with a lot of the planning process, including finding me a cheap DJ last minute and haggling with the venue to bring down the price of an unforeseen expense. We had a huge wedding party, and she was excellent during the rehearsal. She wrangled my friends and family and got us through the practice run quickly and efficiently. We didn't have a clue how that sort of thing was supposed to work, but everything went smoothly. On the day of, there were no hitches. She and her assistant must have been running around like crazy, but I couldn't tell. She came and grabbed me whenever I needed to be present for a toast or a dance or whatever, and everything went as planned. Also, Modern Whimsy's prices are very reasonable, more so than anyone else I looked at in the Austin wedding scene. I think you get a lot of value for your money when you book with them.
