Incredibly disappointing experience. My fiancé and I had gotten to the point of finalizing a contract with Madison at Pearl Events for them to only tell us at the point of signing they could not take us on a client because they booked another client the night before. They waited until the meeting to tell us, meaning my fiancé and I both took time out of our work day for something that could have been an e-mail. They offered to provide recommendations, they were unable to confirm any availability. All in all a disappointing experience and poor business etiquette. read more

Katie Fingerhut was the real MVP of our wedding, and answered multiple questions from me and my mother. She gave me a list of recommended vendors and actually made the whole wedding planning process fun! When we met with the vendors, it was so obvious that each one of them respected Pearl Events, and even knew and respected Katie. There were a ton of moving parts for our wedding, we have a big family with complicated dynamics, and to top that off, I have a ton of crazy health issues, but with Katie + the Pearl team, the day went off without a hitch. If anything went wrong, I would've had zero idea, and I still would have no idea! Katie is friendly, approachable, but also is laid-back and brings a peace to the whole planning process. There really are no words to describe how amazing Lexie Perez is. I always thought I would love planning my wedding but shortly after getting engaged realized I am in fact, not a planner. My (now) husband thought it was a waste of money to hire a planner but I ended up biting the bullet and scheduled a meeting with Lexie about 1 year prior to our wedding. I kid you not - this was the BEST money I spent out of all the vendors, decor, food, music, etc etc. Lexie is friendly, smart, kind, intuitive, and has an incredibly calming presence. Unfortunately, my experience with Jennifer Seals at Pearl Events was the complete opposite of other reviews. Our original meeting was fantastic - she was on point, sent me a follow up immediately and I felt she was exactly what I was looking for, especially after interviewing nearly a dozen planners! I told her "I am a very processed oriented, anal person and need a wedding planner that is even more anal than me" and she completely understood the sentiment. Or so I thought. However from the time I hired her through the next 9 months before my wedding, the communication deteriorated and many mistakes ensued. I almost paid $800 to rent heaters that were not approved for the venue we booked even though Jen said she already had checked they were compliant. When I connected with musicians 6 days before the event, they explained they didn't have the day of timeline yet. These are just a few examples of a myriad of problems I had during the planning process. I had to check and double check every single detail. The evening of the actual wedding was more disappointing and personally, embarrassing. Our music turned off twice -- literally the whole venue went silent -- due to the setup of the DJ (this could have been easily avoided by shifting tables and/or reinforcing the wires with tape like other vendors did), the table runners we rented ended up tied on the base of the cocktail tables instead of running over the top, the lighting she was selected (that I asked to review multiple times) was not acceptable. And the fact that it was 40 degrees and there were only 2 heat lamps on the veranda full of guests who were clearly cold, shocked me. I felt I was running around the whole evening making sure things were on track and I felt such frustration and disappointment the whole event. A 15 month engagement with a Bride and Groom that are workaholics and live 1,000 miles away...the ONLY person who can handle that is JEN SEALS of Pearl Events. After a disastrous phone interview with another coordinator in the Austin area fate brought Jen in to our lives and we could not have been more thrilled. The initial conversation left me feeling all warm and fuzzy and pretty much ready to leave my fiancé to marry Jen because anyone who can stay that organized is basically my soulmate (I'd live in a Container Store if it were socially acceptable). I hired Pearl Events at the recommendation of my friend Brittany, who had the pleasure of working with Becky Navarro for her own wedding at Vintage Villas 5 years prior. I decided to go with the "junior" level wedding-day coordinator who was available, Megan Metzger, based solely on price (that is probably not the right job description and I am probably butchering poor Megan's title, just meant to say that there are different pricing tiers and I went with the lower one). At first, it seemed like a lot of money, like a totally frivolous expense. I mean, I knew what I wanted for my decorations, ceremony, etc. Why was I paying someone so much money for just one day? I tried to find a reason to knock an hour off one place or another to save $100. As the day approached, I started working with Megan more heavily. And I stopped all that nonsense worrying about the cost. Megan was worth every penny I paid and then some. She helped me think through things well before the big day that would not even have occurred to me until the last minute, and probably would have made me lose all sense of sanity. Like, if your mom and dad aren't together, and your dad isn't walking you down the aisle, how are your mom and dad getting to their seats but separately? Mind blown, right? Yeah, better to think about that weeks beforehand when you're calm than in the moment, standing in your dress, waiting for the wedding party to walk down the aisle in front of you. Trust me. During the ceremony, Megan and her assistant Jackie kept everything moving, on schedule, and was my advocate when I was elsewhere (taking photos, eating, on the dance floor). We got so many compliments from our guests on how well everything flowed together, how well everything ran. She was a lifesaver. I'd give her more stars if Yelp would let me. I know she was the reason I got to be mentally present at the wedding, rather than worrying about everything else. Having now completed the event, I can't imagine NOT hiring Pearl Events or Megan Metzger as an event coordinator. They are worth every penny. read more

Pearl Events was recommended by my wedding venue, Vintage Villas, for their coordination services. After doing a bit of research, Pearl Events was the best option in terms of affordability and experience working at Vintage Villas. I ended up going with Jessica for day-of coordination services. Since I was planning my Austin wedding from Dallas, I did the majority of my coordination with Jessica over the phone! We had a few phone calls to get all of the details up front, and I was able to email her anytime with whatever random questions I had - from how many lanterns would I need in this room to is this reasonable in terms of pricing for florals? She always had a cheerful disposition and was super prompt in her responses. She also informed me of any rental specials or deals whenever they were going on! Jessica confirmed all of my vendors two weeks before my wedding and kept them up to date with any type of last minute changes. On the day of, she was so calm and professional - and set up all (and there were a lot) of my decorations beautifully. She made sure we had a plate of food - which we actually got to eat! - and always checked if I needed another drink. The entire night ran so smoothly and I know a big chunk of that has to do with Jessica! Even though we initially didn't budget for coordination services, having a day-of coordinator was well worth it. I highly recommend using Pearl Events if you are getting married at Vintage Villas - it helps so much in terms of figuring out how to decorate and set up the venue! I was so lucky and blessed to get Kailee as my coordinator. From the beginning she was a Godsend. She went through every checklist possible with me to make sure I had everything in order. She checked in on me every couple of months (I booked her a many months before the wedding). She gave me invaluable insight, advice, and helped me stay organize with all the vendors, payments, and tips later. She knew every answer to every question. The day of- she knew every detail of my wedding from beginning to end by heart. (at least it felt that way). She made sure everything we talked about happened. She knew all my OCD tendencies and made sure there were no freak out moments. Before I walked down the aisle, she was the one standing behind me, fluffing my train out, making sure my dress was perfect.... and at the end of the night, she was the one who pulled my crazy hair back together after an extremely fun night of dancing to make sure I was picture perfect for my sparkler send off. Initially I thought that I could plan my wedding myself. However, as I locked down details and suppliers, it became very clear that there would be A LOT of details I'd have to attend to myself the day of the wedding. It was important to me that I enjoy the day and have fun, so I was grateful when our wedding venue, Vintage Villas, recommended Pearl Events. We worked with Jessica and met with her a few months before our wedding. She asked questions to get an understanding of what we were looking for and shared options of what Pearl Events could offer. I thought there rates were very fair. After we made our selection, Jessica attended our details meeting with Vintage Villas about a month before our wedding date. She had worked on weddings in the past at Vintage Villas and knew all of the right specifics to nail down. Jessica was always very helpful and responsive through e-mail leading up to the event. She confirmed all of our vendors 1-2 weeks before our wedding date. She also attended our rehearsal the day before the wedding. On our special day, Pearl Events took care of everything for us. They met with our vendors, set up the decorations, and helped "flip" our ceremony room to the reception room while we and our guests were eating in another room. I was all smiles the day of our event because I could enjoy myself and the moment and not have to worry about any details. I'm so happy that I used Pearl Events because it really made it a stress free, enjoyable day! Two really nice touches on the day of our wedding I also wanted to mention is that - 1) one of the Pearl Events staff members had champagne poured for us (with a cherry at the bottom) as soon as we were married and walked back down the aisle - so awesome! I had the best day of my life thanks to Katie Fingerhut. Planning a wedding in Austin while living in San Diego, I knew I needed a planner, especially since I don't like to plan parties and didn't have a "vision" for my wedding. Initially, I just wanted a fun wedding with good food and music and somehow, Katie managed to create my dream wedding without me realizing it until I walked down the aisle. Katie is so special and from the beginning, both my husband and I knew she was the perfect match for us. She is a yes person and has a solution to every problem!! Having to pay for the wedding ourselves, we were on a budget and tried to lower the cost by renting linen on line and even considered having my family take care of florals. Despite the crazy and somewhat idiotic plan, Katie never said no!! She voiced her concerns but tried to work with us to see how we could make it happen. Fortunately, we found an affordable florist and avoided a potential disaster but we are so appreciative of Katie's willingness to work with our budget. I can go on and on about how wonderful Katie is but it wasn't until the day of our wedding when I realized that she was the best decision I made (other than marrying my husband of course;) for my wedding. There was a 50% chance of rain on my wedding and while it was drizzling at 3 pm, Katie called me to ask if we should move the wedding inside. Since I was really hoping to have the ceremony outside in the beautiful courtyard at the Mansion, I asked Katie if it would be ok to continue setting up for an outdoor wedding since it was "only drizzling" and after a short pause, Katie said, "of course! and if it starts pouring, we'll just move everything inside and move the ceremony time back a little bit." Once again, she could've said no but she didn't and we ended up with a beautiful outdoor ceremony with perfect weather. One of my bridesmaids described her as a swan above the chaos. Chaos that I did not have to deal with or witness b/c Katie took care of everything with such grace and patience. My crazy asian family was all over the place but Katie handled everything with a genuine smile and exuded a sense of calm that was much needed by all. Because of Katie, I was able to work out the day of my wedding, spend quality time with my best friends, and then partied my pants off with all the people I love without a worry in the world. Along the process, Katie has become a dear friend and the only thing I regret about having Katie as my planner is that she lives in Austin and I won't be able to see her as much as I'd like. I've used the Pearl team for two corporate events previously with fantastic results, so of course I called them for my wedding. I can't begin to tell you how phenomenal they are at making sure every last detail is covered. I truly enjoyed my wedding day and didn't worry about a thing. Even my family were able to enjoy themselves; everything was taken care of. She helped us secure a venue and vendors quickly. Becky was my coordinator at Vintage Villas in 2009 (I reviewed Becky and Vintage Villas on the VV page a while back). Since I got married, she's started her own planning company, Pearl Events, and is now a full-service wedding planner--LUCKY for brides! Working with Becky, even in a more limited capacity than she is now able to offer, was a wonderful experience. She handled my many questions, which were likely the same questions she answered all day long from the other VV brides, in a very timely and specific way and was ALWAYS friendly and professional, clearing up any doubts or lingering questions I had about anything wedding-related. She was there from the day I set my date through the nitty-gritty decision making process, right up through the rehearsal and day-of. She truly helped me pull loose ends together when even I, a very proactive and organized bride, was losing my way toward the end-and remember, this was when she was not even my full-time planner. I can only imagine how helpful she would have been had she had a larger role in my planning. Even still, she was full of helpful suggestions and ideas that were, most importantly, within my budget. I really want to stress again how professional she is and how strong her work ethic is. At friends' weddings, I have seen other wedding planners chit chatting about personal matters with staff in the corner and not tending to key details. Things were left undone, and bridal parties were left high and dry without direction at various points in the day and without champagne when the toasts began (!!!!). I can confidently tell you that that would not happen at a wedding of Becky's. Not only is she a lovely lady who is fun to be around and work with, she is the consummate professional, and I think when choosing a planner you have to be EXTREMELY careful about that. There aren't any do-overs or returns, so be sure yours is there to do her job well and not just collect her check! The day of my wedding was seamless because of Becky. I was trying to stick to a budget and I don't know if I would have hired a day-of coordinator had I not already been hooked up with Becky's services through the venue. But because of Becky, I am now the biggest advocate of (at a minimum) having a day-of coordinator for your wedding. Seriously, if you are on the fence about whether or not it is worth the money, let me tell you, unequivocally, IT IS! There were never any questions of if vendors were there yet, who would meet them, were things getting set up on time and in the right place, are the groom and groomsmen on time and in the right place, when to start walking down the aisle, where my groom and I should go immediately after the ceremony, I could go on and on. Without Becky, these questions and stresses would have been placed on my mom and mother-in-law's shoulders (or even worse, mine), and I am so grateful that we never had to worry about anything! I truly floated through my wedding day, and I doubt I could say the same had Becky not been there. We decided to work with Jessica Brightwell and she was absolutely amazing! She did not take the title "day of" too literally, and was a huge help for weeks leading up to the big day. My daughter was married June 9 at Austin's Umlauf Sculpture Garden. She's my first child to be married (the same was true for the groom's family), so planning a wedding was a new challenge for us all! Becky Navarro and her assistants at Pearl Events were the essential key to a day everyone agreed was magical--and flawlessly executed. I am thrilled to recommend Becky whole-heartedly. I live in California; the bride and groom, in New York City. So we needed someone who could reliably recommend all our Austin vendors; coordinate their services; and save us time in making arrangements. Becky did all this--and more. She was recommended to us by Umlauf for having arranged many successful events there. (It has very stringent time requirements about on-schedule set-ups and break-downs, so this was critical.) From our first conversations in January, Becky focused on the mood and tone of the event the couple wanted; their style and preferences; and our budget. Immediately, I knew she'd be guiding us wisely because she was such a good listener. And that she would save us time and money, since she was direct and knowledgeable in describing our choices without ever imposing herself. We met for the first time in February; she helped us arrange a whirlwind of meetings with prospective vendors; and we left Austin completely confident all would go well and within budget. Becky was absolutely responsive to every email along the way (there were literally hundreds as we worked out details). The vendors she endorsed were top-notch and within our price range. It was clear that she had a great virtual team in Austin familiar with working with her and with a strong incentive to perform well for her and us. This was a great advantage to us as out-of-towners. One great help really stands out: when we were trying to work out the timeline of the reception, Becky gave us expert advice that took into account the number of people, the layout of the venue, the weather, the DJ, the band . . . the number of times you can move people from one spot to another. The flow of the day was really in her hands . . . and it was a smooth and great success! When it got close to the Big Day, Becky received and organized all our guest/decorative items to bring to the outdoor site and gave us great assurance that all would go well. There was a late-breaking chance of rain. Becky had it all under control: advising us about our options for tents and a different set-up if necessary, making sure we were informed and calm! I knew whatever happened, Becky would work it out for us! And she did. No rain, but absolute peace of mind. She and her staff kept everything running smoothly: I never had one moment of distraction or concern throughout the ceremony and reception. I could simply focus on the couple, our family and friends. They all had a fantastic time! Becky quietly, competently, and calmly had everything displayed, arranged, coordinated, flowing perfectly. Her two staff members were equally friendly and focused. At the end of the night, they had everything packed up magically and easily, and left us with a feeling of happiness, not exhaustion. What a relief! I could never have managed this event without Becky. As I reflect back on the day, the pictures, the memories, I appreciate her expertise more and more. It truly was one of the best decisions I could have made. Clients say they would give 10 stars, and in my opinion there aren't even enough stars to give them. We worked with Jenn Seals, and her service was invaluable. She was so calming through the process, reminded me of the small items I needed to stay on top of, and came up with some brilliant ideas.
