When I first went to Modern Touch I had an amazing experience. Vali was the one that greeted me and cut my hair. It was great. As Vali has been busy outside the business I have been going to Bob. Well that has not been going well. Feel like I am not important because I do not come in every 6 weeks (don't need colour) . Last appt was for 11:30, received a call asking me to come in at 11:45 as he was busy, then got another call saying to come in at 12:00. When I got there I did not get an apology or reason for delay. Last cut (2 weeks ago) is horrible, did not listen to what I wanted and was done in about 15 mins. Will not be going back there anytime soon. read more

I recently relocated to Pickering and Google listed Modern Touch in the top three in Pickering. I called and received an appointment for a consultation and was able to book an appointment later that day. Vali, the owner was very knowledgeable and advised me based on the questions I posed to him. I gave him a general idea of what I wanted and he set to work to color, highlight and cut my hair. I also gave him the option to use his professional expertise in making the decisions. I was quite pleased with the results and the interesting conversation we had while he was busy working on my hair. Very expensive..Takes too long because Vallee is always answering phone calls. Always wanting to sell sell sell products. Bob is no better. He gave me 1 haircut and did the opposite of what I wanted. No way would I recommend them. Just too expensive. read more

I visited the Modern Touch salon for the first time this past week. I have very thick hair and not every hairstylist has the talent nor the training to cut very thick hair well. Vali did a wonderful job at cutting my hair. My new hair colour is rich and the high and lowlights give my style the perfect definition. This place is amazing... Vali is so nice. I am from NY and I am getting marry in Toronto so I decided to come in here for make up and hair trial and vali and his team took good care of me. I would highly recommend this salon. Also, did I mention his prices are extremely reasonable? I was so shocked especially coming from NY where hair and makeup trials can cost over $200. Had a wash, cut and style and asked for layers all around including the front. The stylist took her time to do my hair and gave me a good blow dry however after washing it and styling it on my own did I notice that the layers were very choppy and didn't flow nicely. She didn't put in too many layers like I asked and the front layers to frame my face weren't even. Pretty disappointed with the cut. They provided great customer service and were very nice but I won't be going back to my hair done. read more

VERY rude and unprofessional treatment!! I went in for a haircut and color after booking an appointment a week in advance and finalizing on the pricing. Upon arrival, I was asked to wait for 15 minutes, after which the owner, Vali, who was also the stylist, came in to speak with me. When I was asked why I was there, and I repeated what I had discussed over the phone with the receptionist. During that phone conversation, the receptionist had consulted with Vali, that the price for a haircut, balayage, and colouring her roots would be no more than $250. I was clear with the receptionist that I have long and very thick and damaged hair. Despite all this, the receptionist confirmed that the price would be not more than $250, and also confirmed that I would get an additional 20% off because it's my first visit, and taxes would be waived if I paid in cash. When speaking to the owner, Vali, he straight away dismissed the price by saying the colouring of the roots and balayage and a hair cut would be much more than the stated $250. He didn't apologize for the misinformation provided over the phone. I stated that my maximum budget was $250 for the appointment as I had discussed over the phone with the receptionist. He then continued to tell me to open ny hair so that he could do a formal consultation and when saw that it was very tangled (which is not a crime!), he berated me for the state of my hair, got me a detangler and asked me to detangle and brush out my hair as he went about and attended calls and other customers! He then returned and started to detangle my hair in such an aggressive manner that when I returned from the appointment I was in tears due to the pain and the mistreatment I experienced. My hair, which was already damaged was aggressively pulled and there was a lot of hair loss that I experienced during the detangling and after. Not to mention, I got a migraine right after leaving this horrible salon! The entire time, he was condescending to me when asking about what kind of colour and treatment I would want, asking me to be specific about warm and cool tones and how much lighter or darker I would want to go, as if I should have been experienced in knowing everything there is to know about hair colouring and balayages. I verbally kept complaining about how aggressively Vali was pulling my hair when detangling it, while he dismissed the pain by apologizing and continuing to pull my hair out in such a violent manner. There is no need or reason for anyone to treat a person like that, specially one who is going to be paying you money and moreover, called and booked an appointment, and took their precious time to commute to the appointment, and be there on time!! After this horrendous experience, he proceeded to leave me for long periods of time again to attend customers who had booked appointments but were early for their appointments! He then sat down and wrote down some figures on a notepad and after adding them up, quoted me a bill of $400!!! Ofcourse, when I turned this outrageous quote down, Vali proceeded to explain that in $250 he would be able to cut my hair, cover my grey roots, and then use what is available ($70 to be precise) on toner and other materials to do a sub-par balayage or colour correction for my hair. He directly said to me that in this budget of $250 I wouldn't get what I was looking for, and even if I did, he would not be able to give me satisfactory results. He also said that he would not be willing to go through with that appointment today, even if I opted for the $400 hair services that he quoted. He mentioned that doing the entire job as was promised over the phone would not be worth his time for the $250 which he himself that confirmed with the receptionist over the phone! Not only this, he proceeded to ask me to pay a deposit of $50 if I wanted to re-book the appointment for a later date. There was nothing available right away and he continued to tell me there wouldn't be anything available until Friday! I was in today to make sure my hair looked presentable for my first day of work on the day after and when I called other salons to book for appointments there was ofcourse nothing available on such short notice!! He not only physically made this the WORST experience I have had with a salon but also made sure that my plans to look presentable for my first day of work were all ruined!! This was by far the WORST hair salon experience for me and I'm shocked at how many people actually gave this place a good review!! Please save your time and money and take your business elsewhere because of this is the owner of the store I feel empathetic for all those who even work for him!! read more
