I absolutely adore Michelle and her mom Rose! Michelle did a fabulous job on my shellac pedicure and manicure! They are fast, patience, caring, and so attentive! I will definitely be back and it's appointment based so no wait time! You arrive, offered a refreshment, and they quickly get to work! They have been in business for 30 years and their shop looks like it just open yesterday so refreshing and such peaceful place to be at while you pamper yourself!! I called and scheduled a pedicure which was quoted at $15, very reasonable. I enjoyed my pedicure which lasted a good 45 minutes. I wish my heels would have been scrubbed a little better, but for the most part, it was a great pedi. Rose warmed the lotion before putting it on my legs, which I thought was a really nice spa-like touch. Both Rose and her daughter were very friendly and hard working. I chatted with Rose for a few minutes, but she didn't attempt to pry in to my life or talk excessively with the other nail technician. I really hate it when the nail technicians are talking loudly amongst themselves when the customers come to relax. I also hate it when I am hounded with upsell propositions. Rose did not once say "lets add a manicure" or "you want to get your eyebrows done too?" and I could kiss her for that! I'm a lady that knows what she wants, and I don't like telling you no anymore than you want to hear it. I spent most of my pedicure reading my Kindle or watching the news on the TV, which was perfect. It would have been even more relaxing if the massage function on my chair worked, but it didn't. I wouldn't have even known that it was supposed to be a massage chair, but the lady next to me was using the massage settings on hers -- I was jealous. When it came time to pay, the receipt I signed said $18 when the pedicure price is said to be $15 -- so I am assuming they preauthorized gratuity? I was going to tip that $3 anyway, so I found it either shady or insulting that they feel they need to add gratuity. I ended up tipping another $2 up to $20 for the service, because I wasn't sure about the grat situation. I don't frequently get manis or pedis (as I am sure Rose could tell but politely didn't mention), and since it's fairly close to home, I'll probably be back to Modern Nails. read more

I called last minute for a pedi, was told to come in. It is in a quiet little plaza. It almost looks deserted, but when you get inside it's super nice! It smells good, temperature is perfect, very clean and the ladies are friendly. I'm not sure who did my pedi but she massaged my feet until I reached heaven, and maybe that's the real reason I'll go back lol. Just came back from a gel manicure for $20 and they look awesome. Salon has about 5 of those wheels of gel color options so they've got pretty much any color you'll need. Like the rest of the reviews say, if you want a fancy salon with wine and massagers (and no bars on the windows), go elsewhere. Not in the greatest location, but the quality of work makes up for the sketchy exterior. The interior is cute with the typical Asian decor and I have to say I love the funky light balls and crystal sculpture of romaine lettuce (maybe bok choy?). It's quiet and if you're just looking to watch some Ellen and relax, you're in a great spot. Loving my nails so far. But as a bartender, I abuse the hell out of my hands so we'll see how these last. They're supposed to go about 3 weeks with normal wear and tear but I'm thrilled if they can handle a week of the torment I put them through. Word to the wise so you don't look like an idiot like I did: they lock the door during open hours so if you're walking in, knock or stand there and wait. I have been going to Modern Nails for about a year. I was new to the area and tried some other nail salons in Oak Forest and wasn't pleased. I found this place and haven't missed a polish change. The salon is run by Rose and her daughter. Since there are only two employees, it is never busy and you never feel rushed. I can call and usually get an apt the same day if I need to. I have been pleased with the services they provide. I usually get a Shellac manicure, spa pedicure, and eye brow waxing. What sets Modern Nails apart from any other salon is the price. IT IS SO CHEAP. I can get all three services for $43. With that being said, you get what you pay for. If you want a fancy salon with all the bells and whistles this isn't it. They do a very decent job and are extremely friendly, but they don't give you wine or have massage chairs. I will continuing going here as long as I live in the area! read more

This salon is great. I got a shellac pedicure and a full set and I'm very happy with both. Their prices are also very competitive. They offered me a soda which is always a nice touch. I had two different gals work on me and they were both very sweet and careful. I noticed that if they messed up even a little bit they would correct it immediately. I don't often experience that so I really valued their scrupulousness. One weird thing though--they told me they make home made yogurt and offered me a sample. Then told me that they sell it. Yes the yogurt was good so yes I bought some (haha) but it just threw me off a tad. Bottom line: the service is great and the price is right. I will return. read more

Calm, peaceful, clean environment ... with nice décor. They use the plastic liner in the foot tub. and the massage chair is very nic I will be going back - Highly recommended! read more

Hate to give two starts because they were so nice! And the prices are very cheap too! However... I got a set of solar nails, which came out *alright* for what you're paying for. It's been three days, and three of my nails have fallen off :'( I got a pedicure as well. The nails came out OK, which is why I'm giving this place two stars. However, it wasn't the best pedicure experience. They didn't scrub my heels or give much of a message like I am used to. Then again, I am certainly willing to pay $15 to just have my toes painted. While the outside looks rather sketchy, it's a well kept establishment. It is clean and smells nice inside. I have only ever gotten my eyebrows done there, but I'm happy to say, I've found my new go- to eyebrow spot. I like that visits are by appointment only. Stopped by this place for a mani/pedi and the door was locked. There was obviously people inside, as I could see them. Instead of coming to the door to inform me that they are appointment only, a lady literally waved me away as if she was trying to get rid of a bug that was flying. I returned to my car and called them and that is when I was told it was "Appointment Only". There is no sign that indicates this or anything of that nature. Bad first impression for this guy. I just moved to the neighborhood, and I used the one review on here to decide to try this place, and I was not disappointed! The prices were excellent, and the service was awesome. I paid less than I have paid in the past, half of what I have paid at some places, and I got one of the best pedicures I have ever had. Also, they offer facials and waxing. I only got a brow wax this time, but I will be back. Rose and her daughter were amazing. They were all booked up on the day I called to make an appointment, but they saw me the next morning, and I am already planning a return visit for more services. I made an appointment the other day and as Michelle helped me into the spa chair, I tried remembering why I ever stopped coming here. Don't get me wrong, these ladies are sweet, they know my name and remember little things about me. Price point is awesome as well. It's a very homey environment. This time around I came getting some pampering before my vacation. I wasn't looking for anything crazy, just a plain mani/pedi. A lot of things bothered me and nothing was said: 1. Michelle cut me and there was blood. She didn't mention anything to me. 2. Rose was a little aggressive going back and fourth between my hands during my manicure. 3. There was a dent in my toe that was noticeable and Michelle "didn't see it" 4. I told Rose the color wasn't even and maybe another coat would help, there was also air bubbles. I was told the "frost" in the polish made it look like that. No, I can see my nail. 5. Michelle literally touched my heel twice, my feet were even more dry after! Service is really lacking, and I don't care how cheap it is, I'm not walking around with ugly nails that I paid for. I'm going elsewhere from now on, I just can't go somewhere where you're willing to argue with me about my own nails. It would have taken a minute to get an extra cost on there. Took that shit off and don't have time to get my nails done. Really disappointed. Never going back. read more

My daughter and I have been going to this salon for 12+ years, and have never had a bad experience. I am shocked to read the negative comments. The ladies work hard, are always polite and kind, and have a very wide range of customers. They know their customers well, and have several ladies that are older who need some extra care, and they have always received it. Again, great ladies, and they do a great job. One thing that was mentioned is their great prices. That happens because they do everything. There is not a receptionist etc... As to the locked door, that makes me, as a customer, feel safer. They can see when someone comes to the door and they unlock it immediately. As to not wanting someone's business, as was mentioned in one review, my assumption would be that their priority at that moment was to take care of the customers they had sitting in chairs, who had taken the time to make an appointment. They are usually booked and there is a reason... I have never witnessed them treating anyone with anything other than kindness. I highly recommend Modern Nails by Rose. This is a very relaxing, little salon, operated by a mother and daughter team. Ms. Rose and her daughter are super polite, and they mostly see customers by appointments so the salon is never over-crowded and noisy. The prices are EXCELLENT ($20 for a GREAT shellac manicure).
