Clean and well-kept salon with friendly staff and great color selection for regular polish, gel, and powder. Just had a French tip SNS powder manicure yesterday and it was a good experience. This is actually the first nail salon to ever tell me the price before starting and asked if it was okay-- very impressed. Nails were great, one was filed down a little bit misshapen on the other hand but otherwise very clean and well done. As for anyone who hasn't had a powder dip before, to me it feels just like acrylic nails-- I will probably go back to gel after this despite the fact it's supposed to last much longer. I don't like how thick it feels and it's very hard. Does not resemble real nails at all in my opinion. Maybe I would try a color as well instead of French tips but that's just personal preference. read more

First time here, and my daughter had an excellent experience with Ly (Lee) but my experience with my tech, Man Chau, was very disappointing. Myself and my two daughters received manicures here. Ly helped my 6-year-old and really took her time with her and talked to her and even painted cute designs on her fingernails. Mr. Chau painted my nails and filed the side of my finger causing me to bleed! It hurt like a paper cut (ouch!). He also did a rush paint job on my teenage daughter it wasn't as clean as Ly's work. After he painted my teenaged daughter's nails he did mine and whilst I was getting mine done Ly painted cute smiley faces on my teenaged daughter's nails. Mr. Chau gave me $3 dollars off my service and apologized but I just feel like if he paid better attention to details he wouldn't have filed my finger causing a cut. I came here because my neighbor recommended this place, and I plan to come again but I will would not recommend Man Chau as your technician. read more

Came to Modern Nails when I saw the nail art they had on their yelp page - I was looking for something called tortoise shell nails I had seen on Pinterest and seeing their other clients pictures I was more than confident they could do it. Not so much - my technician tried very hard to meet my request but I left with patchy results. The polish on my other nails is quite streaky and one of my gemstones is off center. I have polish all over my cuticles. I also asked for a manicure and got a polish change. Oh well. I will say the shape is very nice and he tried his very best but I think I will be going back to my usual salon. I wish that it had been communicated to me that what I was requested was not able to be done so I could've found somewhere Update: it got even worse. The gel color has somehow started to rub off where I had identified the streaks which I didn't even know was possible. One gem fell off. I'm so disappointed in this outcome because this place is so highly reviewed. read more

I've been here visiting family for the week and decided to take my niece out for a girls day before I leave. I checked Yelp for reviews and settled on Modern Day. I am so thankful we did. The staff was so kind and the facility was very, very clean. I'm definitely referring the family over there! We both got gel paint and it was $60 for both of us. read more

It saddens me to write this review, but not enough to stop me from it. I have been getting my nails done at Modern Nails since the start of the summer. Danny, has done an ok job. I say ok because only twice have I walked out where something wasn't messed up, and even when you make an appointment you will wait. Understanding that they were short staffed, and that Danny had been working to fix that. I am not hard to please, nor am I fussy, and certainly I am understanding. My nails were in need of a visit to Danny during the hurricane evacuation, but the family went to Columbia, SC and I did not want to 'cheat' on my nail guy. I liked that Danny was friendly and he does a better job than some of the other salons. I waited till we made it back. Sadly, one nail did not survive the evacuation. The dip powder (Kiara Sky) had cracked across my nail. When Danny took the powder off (a process called wrapping) my nail did look damaged. Nothing was done to fix it even though I thought it should have been glued, or cut down and a new tip put on. (I had damaged a thumb nail before and Danny had done the ladder) Two days later that nail, and one other one, had cracked. I went in first thing in the morning to get the two fixed. Danny was not there, so Diane helped. (I have one other experience with Diane, she did my nails while Danny was on vacation. Actually, the one where the dip powder split. I had asked for a matte finish. She messed up and gave me the gloss. My daughter (9) was with me as a mother daughter treat, said, "Mom, that's not what you asked for." I knew, and I wasn't going to say anything. I wanted no negative vibes on my mom & daughter outing. Diane, heard, and tried to fix them with a top coat of the liquid gel coat. So, I had to stay even longer under the UV light. Also, the nails looked like shit because the top coat peeled back on all the nails.) I explained that the nails needed to be fixed. Diane told me that one nail wasn't split. She tried to argue with me. I told her I just wanted the two nails wrapped to remove the gel dip. That way I could see what was going on, because one nail hurt very badly at this point. She calls me to chair number two. I wait.... and she pulls out this very small glass, wipes it with a paper towel, and tells me to put my thumb nail, the second cracked one) in and soak it. At this point, I'm very agitated. Maybe I felt some right as a regular customer to be listened to. Silly. So, I'm soaking my thumb, decide I should leave and wrap my own nails. I knew right then and there I would never let them touch my nails again. I still wanted to talk to Danny face to face, and let him know why I would not be back. I headed to Savannah on an errand and decided to try a nail salon out there. While on my errand, my nail ripped completely off half my nail bed. I had dropped my phone and reflexes kicked in. When I grabbed my phone it snapped, and the pain was excruciating. I tried to compose myself, And finished my errand. Drove home shivering, in unbelievable pain, and part of the top half of the nail still hanging by a thread of my bloodied nail bed. See attached picture. I went in again to Modern Nails to see Danny and instead was faced with Diane again. I tried to talk to her. I didn't want my money back. I wasn't mean, or cussing, or even rude. She again told me that the nail break was my fault. It is so disappointing to realize that a place you give your money and time, and understanding to... has no respect for you. This was my little place that I could take time for myself. My nails are actually the only treat I do give myself. No, I will not be back. Ever. read more

Sadly, like many mani/pedi salons, employee turnover is common. The staff here was always pleasant and focused. My last powder dip nail application there will be my last permanently. The technician seemed hurried, made a complete mess while removing my old polish and applying the new. Dust everywhere on my shirt, my hands, my arms. I felt dirty and just couldn't wait to get out of there to change my clothes and wash my hands. All this for $40? You should be paying me for this experience. read more

I went there at 6pm because online it says they close at 7pm. I drove from Ladys Island passing other nail shops on the way because they typically have the best nails. But once I got there even though their sign outside said "OPEN", they said they were closed because of an emergency and gave me an appointment at 10:00am the next day. It's hard for me to get away at that time because of work but I was determined to get there because I needed to get my nails done. My appointment was at 1000, I didn't get seen until almost 11:00. I got the usual dip. The guy that I got did such a terrible job that I am no longer going there. It's under new management and they have new people that need to go back to learning about nails. The nails did not have the shine that I am use to having, they actually look dull. He scrubbed my skin so hard that it made me bleed and it took the manager to notice when I was on the way out to pay and applied some treatment. I had to ask for lotion in the end because my hands were so ashy. Even after he applied lotion after I asked him, I had to get more lotion to get rid of all the dry skin from when he was scrubbing so hard. I'm am terribly disappointed I paid $130 for a crappy mani pedi and a manicure for my daughter we both got tips with white dip nails and I asked for matte they convinced me not to. My daughters nail person was extremely rude and didn't even speak English he had to have everything translated. Very nice place. The location is convenient and easy to find. Huge parking lot and next to other business. I was greeted properly once I walked in and told to pick a color. It was my first time at this place and I noticed that they do have a lot of long term customers that were there while I visited. The owner did my nails and it was a splendid experience. He was very thorough and exact. Their prices are very low for the quality of work they perform so I am very pleased. I got there around 5:30 pm and they closed at 7 but I didn't leave until 7:20 and was the last customer. Considering the closing time frame, my nails came our perfect and I never felt rushed! I was there during the closing so I got to see the employees cleaning and shutting down. They cleaned every chair and swept the floors throughout the entire salon. Highly recommend! This place is horrible!! I have never had such a horrible experience! After 10 minutes of telling the owner I just wanted plain nail polish, he had convinced me to get dip polish instead. While he was doing my nails he cut my finger TWICE! He just laughed it off and keepers going. Once he was finished I noticed a lot of a type of glue on all my nails. I left very unhappy. I ended up going back within an hour to have the nail be taken off because I was in physical pain! He ruined my nail beds, my cuticles are horrible. I asked for my money back he's words " Service is service" I will never be back!! And I will be warning everyone about this place read more

I've been to almost every nail shop in Beaufort and this place is my favorite. When you walk in you aren't knocked out with the smell of strong chemicals. They always greet me with a warm welcome and smile. It's clean and most times I have come in and sat right down in a pedicure chair--hardly ever a wait. So awesome for me as I occasionally have my daughter with me and I'm trying to get in and out. Any nail tech I've had has taken their time and I've never found myself asking for basic techniques to be completed like I've had to at other nail shops in town. Today was the last day I attempted to get a pedicure at my previous favorite place because there has been an hour wait the past 3 times I tried to get one done. I don't know what I was thinking because Modern Nails pedicures last a long time--longer than any other place I've been to. I remember last year we went on a cruise and through swimming, walks on the beach, and walking around everywhere at our ports, my pedicure was still looking fresh when we got back lol.
