Amazingly, good ice cream! I had a caramel ice cream, which was the best I've ever tasted. And the owner is incredibly friendly. Don't drive by without trying the ice cream.

Clean wonderful little local Ice Cream place. Lots of seating inside and outside

The food alone is worth the trip, the chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and seasoned just right. You can tell they pay attention to the details, from the freshness to the balance of flavors. Even the sides felt thoughtfully prepared and not like an afterthought. What really elevated the visit, though, was the staff. Everyone was genuinely warm and welcoming without being overbearing. They seemed to take real pride in what they were serving, and it showed in the care they put into everything. The vibe is relaxed, friendly, and unpretentious, the kind of place where you instantly feel comfortable. It has that small-town charm but with a level of quality that stands out. Hy's feels like a spot that truly cares about the full experience, not just the food. Definitely a place I'll be returning to.

Hy's Fried is an adorable cool place near Bash Bish falls. I stopped by around 3 and the place was…read morepretty empty so I hung out with James and Alex. They are hilarious. James is nerdy and quiet and Alex is loud and charming. Disarmingly good at getting you to share your life's story, then noticeably squirrely about sharing details of his own life. I got cauliflower and biscuits (so yummy) and I warmed up my freezing bones after spending a day in the mountains. Can't wait to come back with my kids this summer!

QUICK DISCLAIMER: This is not Bev's anymore. This is in fact, a SoCo creamery, which is apparently…read morea minor-ish New England chain. I like SoCo. I like the chalk board. I like the pseudo-rock and roll pictures on the walls. I like the fact that the teenaged staff really pays no attention whatsoever when I camp out at their tables and eat take-out Thai food. Oh, yeah, the ice cream. The key-lime pie ice cream I tried on special here was really exceptional. A subtle lime flavor and graham cracker pieces created a delicious combination. Too bad it's not a regular flavor. I also enjoy the pumpkin and ginger flavors, which seem to crop up regularly. The heath bar is exactly what it says it is, if you're into that sort of thing. (The scoops are expensive but large enough for me...of course, I'm a wuss.) They also have a lot of frozen coffee drinks and an interesting "frozen hot chocolate", which is basically an extremely rich chocolate milkshake. Brownie sundaes are tasty enough and are also bigger then your head, which is a plus when you're a college student. I usually just cave and get the soft-serve frozen yogurt, which is both fat free, tasty enough, and can be topped with gummy bears. (Try chocolate-vanilla swirl with gummy bears! Mmm, perverse!) It seems like they have sandwiches, which look both overpriced and slightly elderly whenever I see them. Exercise caution.

I wish I could give this review 3 & 1/2 stars, actually. I'm a BIG fan of the ice cream. Some of…read moretheir flavors are so extraordinary! Banana, Berry Mountain, Mexican Chocolate...*mmmmmmmm* Their pear sorbet is also a real treat. My complaints? Some of the inept teens that work there. Please note I said "some". Some are lazy, dismissive, and off their game. Some are completely on top of what they are doing. My prime example? The creation of a banana milkshake. I love ordering them to see what the reaction of the staff will be. Some scratch their heads and say something to the effect of "I don't think I can. We don't have banana ice cream". I tell them to mix one of the 20 bananas hanging from the glass partition to blend them with vanilla ice cream. Others say they aren't allowed to mix bananas and ice cream, which puzzles me seeing as bananas are a main ingredient of many of their smoothies. *hmmmmm* Haaaa. However, when I order a banana milkshake other times, what question do I get? "Okay. Do you want one or two bananas in it?" Those are the kids that get the extra tip. Ha! Lines can be long, but this place is popular solely on the product. The ice cream is fabulous. There is no denying that.
