I would advise against engaging the services of this particular company. They were referred to me by my home warranty provider to address issues with my AC unit. Initially, they diagnosed a minor problem and received approval to make the necessary repairs. However, during subsequent visits, they encountered additional issues. One visit took an unexpected turn when the service technician inadvertently fell into my uncovered septic tank as it was being serviced at the time while exploring my backyard without approval or guidance, leading to his departure due to injury. This incident was followed by a lack of communication as the technician left the AC running before completion of repairs, causing further complications. Upon returning and replacing a part, they identified a compressor failure, attributing it to alleged misuse and wrongly claiming to have advised against running the AC. These actions resulted in the denial of coverage by the home warranty company, revealing a lack of integrity and reliability on their part. I would caution against entrusting your AC repairs to this company and suggest seeking a more trustworthy alternative for such services. My attempts to address these issues with Modern Mechanical were met with unfulfilled promises of contact from the owner, adding to the frustration of the overall experience. Furthermore: There was a lack of communication regarding the use of the AC unit after the technician's visit. Neither I nor the tenant were informed about not using the AC, and to compound the issue, the technician left it running upon departure. No instructions or notifications were provided via call or message regarding the functioning of the AC post-service. This omission of guidance was not mentioned in the diagnosis report, leaving us unaware of any specific usage instructions for the AC. read more

I was recently selling my home in Raleigh and the Home Inspection found that the downstairs delta temp was off by a couple of degrees. No problem, I have a home warranty so they sent out WoodCrest Mech Services. The diagnosis was that I needed an ENTIRE new HVAC. The warranty co will cover the cost of the HVAC however, my 'out of pocket' expenses were going to be 2500.00. I found this out five days before the closing date so it looked the the sale would not go through. I wasn't putting another 2500.00 into this house!! I recalled that I had previously used Modern Mech for warranty work in the past so I called them to see if they could help. I had not communicated with Modern Mech in about 2 years but they REMEMBERED ME and immediately recalled all the work that had been previously done and questioned the need for a new HVAC. The person I spoke with, Diane, said she would do whatever she could to help me and definitely delivered. With one service call the very next day and a pound of free-on, my Delta T was within the set limits and I was good to go. The house closed and the total cost was 175.00 to Modern Mech. What a relief! Here is what I know, sometimes demand for services is high and you may have to wait (say during hot spells and cold spells). Sometimes this stuff gets expensive to fix - it is, what it is... but it is GOOD to know that you can TRUST a business not to try to rip you off - and Modern Mech is just that business! My wife and I recently decided that it was time to upgrade/replace our aging HVAC systems. We shopped various companies at the Raleigh home show and obtained estimates. We chose to contract with Modern Mechanical as a result of Jason L. coming out to do a full assessment of our heating/cooling needs upon which he came back to us with a very comprehensive, clearly laid out and professional proposal. We decided to replace all our systems: a 4-ton unit for upstairs, a 3-Ton unit for downstairs (with all new duct work) and a new Split system for our all season room addition. All the work was done exactly as agreed & scheduled, by a very professional crew who were very courteous and constantly cleaned up as the work progressed. At the end of the second day, we had all three systems completely installed and working perfectly. The new Trane systems are extremly quiet and it was reassuring to know that Jason was in regular communication with his crew on the progress of the job right through our complete satisfaction and final customer acceptance sign-off. Over the years, we have had various home projects, renovations and work done in and around our home and I have to say that Jason and the entire Modern Mechanical Team were the most respectful and dependable bunch of professionals we have dealt with in some time. We recently switched to Modern Mechanical for our quarterly HVAC service. The tech arrived early in the workday with plenty of time to complete the task. He was both professional and humble, indicating that he was willing and able to handle our unconventional system. He arrived with two indispensable tools--a good attitude and properly sized filters (our units are custom and filters have to be special-ordered). When I couldn't recall where a few of the units were, he started with the ones I'd identified, giving me time to track down the HVAC map. The tech went above and beyond, labeling each filter location and its corresponding thermostat with a label-maker so the units will be easily identifiable for future techs. This has been an issue for us in the past as frequently different techs will come and it takes extra time to walk a new person through the building. This simple solution will save us headaches in months to come. We are so glad to have Modern Mechanical servicing our units. The experience this month was a complete reversal from the antics of our former service company and it was truly a breath of fresh air. I couldn't understand why a company with such great service has such a poor star rating--but it turns out there are a dozen great reviews in the "not recommended" part of Yelp (that are more current than many of the disgruntled "recommended" ones too)! read more

Let's just say WOW! First class company and service. The install crew (Scott, Andrew, Darwin, Allen and Cody) was on time, professional, and organized. It was impressive to see the crew leader run a tight crew and everything was completed efficiently. These guys took the time to explain what they were doing and answered all of our questions along the way. After the install, the electrician (Todd) came to inspect the electrical and brought to our attention a completed unrelated electrical concern in the attic. He took the time to show us and explain the concern and fixed it so it's not a hazard any more. Thank you Todd! Then the service tech (Josh) came and inspected the unit and took the time to show us how to use the new thermostat. And of course the sales rep (Joe), he was professional and funny (he doesn't like air deflectors...we took them down). The new hvac unit is amazing and we are very pleased with everything. Our Goodman's broke down after 6 years, so we went searching for a new product and a HVAC installer. Scott came out to the house and was very professional. His presentation and knowledge had me convinced this was the right company for the job. From our appointment, I called him on his cell for additional questions. He answered them quickly. He worked around our schedule to get the new Train units installed. He had all the paperwork ready for Duke Energy rebates all neatly in a folder. Percy came out on both installations and did a wonderful job taking out the old equipment and in with the new. They laid out covering to protect the carpet, wore plastic boot covers when they came in the house, and was careful in moving furniture to seal the vents. Percy even gave my friendly dog a treat :-). Recently the compressor on my 2nd level HVAC system died and I decided to replace the entire unit. Before deciding on Modern Mechanical I secured proposals from 5 local vendors. Their proposal was delivered by Jason an experienced sales professional and addressed every detail of the implementation plan for my home. From the start they were head and shoulders above any of the competition. The installation was handled by Percy and Darwin who were also very professional and was very smooth and uneventful. They cleaned up thoroughly and followed through completely on the implementation. Financially the Trane system I selected was priced VERY competitively which made my decision much easier. I had an issue where my Trane HVAC just stopped running.. both thermostats indicated no signal... It was during off hours about 8PM. I called the 24 hour number and received a call back within 30 mins. A very polite and concerned technician (Ken) listened to my concerns and methodically walked me thru over the phone how to clean the obstruction from the drain-line... he stayed on the phone with me until he knew I was comfortable with the procedure. He correctly diagnosed the issue without even making a service call and because of Ken my A/C was functioning efficiently within an hour. I would recommend Modern Mechanical, Ken and all of their crew to anyone in need of a new HVAC system or service on an existing one... they could have easily insisted on a service call but were honest and forthright.. However, I was so impressed with the professionalism of Joe Anfuso, their comfort consultant, that I took the unusual step of going with the first company I called. His presentation was a soft sell, informative, and seemingly genuine concerned to met my specific needs. On the day of insulation two crews arrived.
