Great customer service when looking for a replacement shade. There lady looked up the item and the part number and had to do a special order. we will return read more

Highly recommend this store for their lighting expertise and excellent service. I have two table lamps with dimmable sockets that were built for incandescent lightbulbs; but since you can't buy those anymore, I wanted to see if it was possible to convert them for dimmable LED bulbs by simply replacing the sockets. No place I called could give me a straight answer, but one of them recommended I reach out to Modern Lighting. They actually trialled my question on a lamp they had in house, so that I didn't have to drive to them until there was reasonable certainty they could do what I needed. They quoted me a price, and I went in the next day. Not only did they get the job done, it ended up costing less than their estimate. Very grateful to Jeff and the rest of the team that, in this day where there are few specialty experts anymore, they still exist and were super nice to boot! read more

Great store with extremely knowledgeable sales staff. Don was such a great help; he was extremely knowledgeable & helpful. Large selection of lighting fixtures, fans, mirrors etc. They have been in business for many decades. read more

My husband and I were looking to update some light fixtures in our home and after spending many weekends searching and coming up empty handed, we were ready to settle for something we weren't crazy about. Our contractor recommended Modern Lightening and we are so glad he did. We literally walked in and immediately saw "the one." haha Just as other reviews mentioned, it can be very overwhelming because of the amount of inventory they carry. Make sure you have plenty of time to walk around because there are TONS of options. We worked with Debbie who was very helpful and even brought out catalogues to show us the piece we were interested in came in different sizes. I would definitely recommend Modern Lighting and will be a returning customer. read more

Great service. We brought in our lamp where the bulb holder had fallen off. Staff took it in and fixed it in less than 15 minutes. They have beautiful sconces, chandeliers, and bathroom lighting. I highly recommend Modern Lighting. read more

love modern lighting and their fair prices! I told my dad about this place and asked if he has ever used them, and his answer was "only for the past 25 years!" love that they live up to their reputation, ill continue to spread the word read more

I've been on the hunt for an elusive fluorescent replacement bulb (they're phasing them out) and have searched high, low, and every online site in between. A quick call to Modern Lighting and an engaging and thorough call with Don proved to be just what I needed! While not found immediately, Don took my info and intended to create an order for me (no one else I've spoken to elsewhere offered this up). A mere 5-10 minutes later, Don called me back to indicate that he found the great (cool) "white whale" in stock at the store and he put a couple aside for me. After the better part of a week looking for this bulb, I was able to head over to the store and pick it up (perfectly packaged for the commute!) right away! Shout out to Don for the amazing customer service and the call back! Will definitely frequent this establishment for all my lighting needs going forward! read more

Good lighting selection, and if you don't see what you're looking for in the store, they can order it from the catalog for you. They sell parts for lamps as well, and I made an unique lamp here with help from Renee, who is knowledgeable, nice, and patient. There's a selection of Made in USA lighting products too. read more

Don at Modern Lightning Temple City was amazing. I searched for hours trying to find a replacement remote for my fan and he went out of his way to help me. Exceptional service! What a quality employee to have on your team. Mahalo Don read more

I had a circa 1970s desk lamp that needed a new socket. It was a small job, but something I didn't want to attempt to fix at home. Don at Modern Lighting made me feel welcome and their repair charge was very affordable. What a wonderful neighborhood service this is. read more

Modern Lighting has the most selection on display in the Los Angeles Country area. Debbie is extremely knowledgeable about lighting options and design. My conversations with Debbie has always been professional and transparent. My experience at Modern Lighting has always been great and welcoming. I took in a very old standing lamp to try to replace the shade. After examining the lamp, the woman working with me said in no uncertain terms that there were "too many variables" and that Modern Lighting would not work on this lamp. I was told to "look up" a lamp restorer, as no referral was given to me when I asked. No apology was given, just what felt like a "dismissal." I would rate the customer service in this store as fair to poor. read more

This place is awesome. It can be a little overwhelming when you walk in, but they have tons of lighting options, many things you won't even find online. Long story short, I spent months looking online and at different stores and I found what I needed here with one visit. The staff are extremely helpful but in no way obnoxious or trying to do a "hard sell." Basically a wonderful store with wonderful staff and wonderful lighting options! read more

Wow!!! This place has gorgeous lights at amazing prices! I did all my lighting in my new house through them and I am so pleased and happy. I also bought all my bathroom mirrors, living room mirror and console through them. I worked with Jeff, and anyone who knows me, knows I can be a big pain to deal with because I am super picky, want excellent service and great value. Jeff is so patient and so sweet and never lost his cool even when i would arrive 3 minutes before closing. He was responsive in letting me know when my items will come in and when things were back ordered, he allowed me to order other items. Jeff even let me borrow a few small fixtures to see if I liked the way it look in my home with a credit card deposit. This is no easy task because it requires him to take down the items from the ceilings/walls and package them nicely so they don't get damaged during transportation. Once all my items arrived, Jeff arranged for them to be delivered to my house for no additional fee. This was very helpful since I am pregnant and wouldn't have been able to go back and forth to get the items since some items are heavy. When I had a problem (one of my mirrors arrived scratched out of the box), Jeff arranged for someone to come to try to fix it. And they said if it can't be fixed they will help me try to work with the manufacturer to get a replacement. Debbie and Mike are the owners and they are very helpful and accommodating. I was considering buying their store display for a console. When it arrived damaged, they gave me the option to buy it at a discount or purchase a brand new one. I chose to get a new one and they let me use the old one in my home until the new one comes. From the great products to the wonderful service, I would highly recommend anyone who is looking for lighting, mirrors and maybe even small furniture pieces or art, to come check them out. You know they are good when both my contractor for my renovation and my interior designer (award winning in Pasadena) use Modern Lighting for the houses they work on. I've also seen other designers ordering mirrors and light fixtures for their clients here. The last one I met here from Altadena was working with Jeff too. They have several catalogs and represent an array of brands. A+++ read more

Great lighting selection, amazing customer service. The shop is crammed full of lights, and during the months we were in and out of the store while we were remodeling, we saw the sales associates constantly putting together new lights for display. Jeff was super helpful with our initial order, and just as patient and helpful every time we returned- for new lights, for parts, to troubleshoot the lights we had ordered. He was full of great practical advice. And he was so incredibly patient- our electrician had issues installing the lights he had insisted we order, and Jeff helped him straighten everything out w the manufacturer Casablanca. Thank you for making the experience go smoothly. read more

Quick and pleasant. Ignore Christine's review on here. I called and checked: "yes we repair lamps." Check. Walked in and staff came over immediately an helped me with 3 floor lamps I lugged in. Needed to routine wiring repairs. "Can you wait 15 minutes sir?" Uh, yep. It was done in 10 mins and it all cost under $20 out the door and all with a smile. Love giving business to local businesses. Love it even more when they have consistently earned it over the years. Well done Modern Lighting. read more

I shopped here for my whole house and will recommend anyone who wants to buy lighting for their house. Debbie, the owner booked a few hours for our first appointment and we got a lot done. It took a few more appointments to finish the process. I was very confused with choosing so much at one time. Debbie made it very easy for me. She is very knowledgable and will help you with your budget. If I like something expensive, she knew exactly what book to find a less expensive version. I still have a few more chandeliers to buy, but have to wait a little. Definitely I Will be buying it here. A mom and pop business, that I will always support. Her husband and staff are all very nice. Even when they have delivered and installed at the house. Very impressed! read more

I was calling around to fix my broken chandelier and when I called Modern Lighting they advised me that they do fix light fixtures. I was advised that they closed at 4 so I drove in traffic for 45 minutes to take them my chandelier. As soon as I walked in I was told that they only fixed their light fixtures which they sold. I then advised the woman at the counter that I had called earlier and was not told such thing. She then said I should have asked. As a consumer, this is extremely bad customer service. Instead of being apologic I was being blamed for not asking the right questions! So please be advised do not waste your time and gas to take your light fixtures in to be repaired unless you purchased them there at their store. read more

I went to fix two lamps here and what I found to be the most annoying is the front desk staff who were Very RUDE and just socially inept to deal with the public. There are almost 4 women as you walk inside, one is more ruder than the other and no wonder there are only few reviews here, one experience is enough to NEVER ever go back to this place again. They made such a fuss fixing a socket of a lamp so complicated; even though I got my lamp fixed but I will never set foot in this store again. read more

Needed lighting for my salon and was recommended this place by my architect. Jeff helped me find the best lighting for my salon and really went above and beyond to help me understand the difference in types of bulbs for the best usage of my business. They researched additional lighting not carried in their store and were able to get it in on time to meet my deadline. Very pleased with all the indoor and outdoor fixtures purchased. read more

Modern Lighting has an amazing selection and awesome customer service. Yes, there are times that they are SWAMPED with people and customer service appears to be weak, but something worth having is worth waiting for. If you want personal service, this is the place to go. One of the fixtures we bought from them had a shade that dropped out of place. It wasn't until I took the whole thing apart a few years later that I realized that the manufacturer had used the wrong size part to secure it. Modern Lighting took care of getting the part from the manufacturer, shipping it to me to save a 20 mile drive, and calling to ensure it arrived & worked. You can't beat that great customer service! read more

Needed a simple non-electrical lamp repair. Not very nice on the phone and hung up without saying "bye". Kind of rude. They won't repair lamps that were not purchased at their store. read more

I took in my beloved 1960's table lamp which no longer worked and was practically falling off it's base. Now it is back home looking beautiful thanks to everyone there. Several people waited on me, and I admit I can be annoying!, but they were all patient and kind. A special thanks to Kathleen who had the tedious job of finding a shade that was perfect for the 60's era. She hit the bull's eye! The biggest surprise was the more than reasonable price for this restoration project. My grade--A+! read more

They have a large selection of lights for all styles and tastes and most budgets. What sets them apart is that they actually will help you SOLVE your problem or issues (should any arise at installation etc.) with any light fixture that you purchase from them or suggest a solution to your lighting problem. Then help you find the right fixture, etc. that will work or adapt a fixture to work for you. They come up with SOLUTIONS instead of the typical "sorry, can't help you" response that you get from every other corporate chain store. Customer service is reason I keep making the drive and returning to Modern Lighting. read more

Everyone was SO friendly when you go in and place your order!! Promised our items in 2/3 weeks, 2 1/2 months later, no items. No calls nothing. Called to cancel our order. Kathleen rudely stated, the items are here!, we called both your contact #s multiple times!! You cannot cancel your order!! Lies. Not one call. 100% positive the items never arrived. No apologies.. beware read more

They do great repairs and are reasonable with their pricing which is why they get 3 stars. One star for their customer service. I'm not convinced the people here love their jobs. Senior staff is routinely rude and impatient both in person and especially on the phone. Be careful when asking "obvious" questions. read more

I am so glad Yelp exists. I admired a light fixture at a friend's home (in Sierra Madre) and I was told where it could be purchased, at Modern Lighting. I spent 45 minutes in the store making a decision on a purchase. I went to ask a few questions and spent a great amount of time waiting to be helped. I was never greeted, nor did anyone ever say they would help me soon. In fact, I couldn't even get any eye contact. I went back to look at the light fixture and store employees passed me several times. It dawned on me that they did not want to sell me anything and that people of color are not welcome in their store. I left. read more

This place is lighting heaven, what an incredible selection! I little pricey, but understandable given the quality.

I hate shopping for lights. I really do. That being said, I would not hesitate to recommend Modern Lighting. The sales staff is very knowledgeable and make recommendations based on your inspiration or your house style. Their selection is great too. Their prices are on the high end but they try to price match when they can. You might save a few bucks at mass retail places like Lamps Plus, but you can't beat Modern Lighting's customer service, selection and overall better quality lighting. read more
