    PMS Pizza

Dropped by here for dinner Friday night & unsure how we feel? First off, we love supporting local businesses & we've walked by this spot so many times, we decided it was time to give it a try. They have really good reviews so we were excited to try it. When we walked in, a family of 5 or 6 had just been seated and the server (whom we presume is the owner) was walking to the back to bring water to this table and didn't see us so we just grabbed a menu and seated ourselves. When she did notice us, she greeted us and brought us water, super friendly and welcoming. I didn't see any other patrons come in besides us and the other family so was a little sad to see they weren't getting much business. The space is well lit, clean and has tons of TVs around so great for catching a game or catching up with friends. We ordered a 14" PMS pizza and bbq wings. The wings were decent and I am interested to try the Louisiana hot wings next time. Pipping hot & smelled really good, definitely had a tangy bbq flavor. The pizza was okay honestly. My fiancé read some reviews that said it tasted like frozen pizza or that the dough felt premade. I did like the thin crust BUT I will say, looking at the dough it did seem a little TOO perfect. Fiancé wasn't a fan of the thin crust and how crispy it was, he said it felt like he was eating a cracker lol. He also tried to take a peek to see if the cook was making fresh dough but didn't see any action. The toppings seemed fresh though. We had half a pizza left over because between the 2 of us, 14" is quite big. We originally wanted to order the 8" but she told us it's small and that it might not be enough food for us. Now cut to today, we reheated the other half of the pizza for dinner and I have to say it tasted a lot like reheated frozen pizza. Echoing some other reviews, it could be very beneficial for them to bring in a pizza specialist to help get the ball rolling. We also really want to see this place succeed. Especially with Slice House opening up a few blocks away. Rooting for you guys & hope to see some improvements when we return!

Modern Eats is your new pizza date restaurant. Whether you eat in or do Take- Out, the food is good and the ambiance is casual and fun. The folks work hard to ensure you have a good dining experience. I liked the mushroom, olives and sausage pizza with thin crust. The grand opening was fun, with lively folks that were celebrating like a big family! Look no further, Modern Eats family owned and run is the perfect place for you next pizza night gathering. Street parking is available.

Came here for dinner and watch the World Series with sister and her family (2 kids and 3 adults). Food and service were amazing. All pizzas came in thin crust- crunchy and tasty. The price is decent for a large pizza. You can mixed and matched toppings so everyone got their own favorites. You must try their wings & fries, it's so crunchy and delicious; kids can't have enough of it. This restaurant is great for family and group gatherings. The food comes in large portions so it's great for sharing.

Thin crust pizza was delicious. The service was warm and friendly on a cold night. They will start serving specialized dessert. Visit when you're in the area.

Parking can be a little sparse, but if you're down to walk a block or two, you're set. Service is simple and easy. Walk in, order at the bar, and grab a buzzer that lights up and vibrates when your food's ready. The space itself is very cool. Tons of big TVs playing sports, rows of pinball machines ready to eat your quarters, and a laid-back vibe that makes it perfect for hanging out. And the food? It HITS. Huge, juicy wings sauced to absolute perfection. Definitely do half-and-half for max flavor fun. The burger also delivers -- super juicy and made me feel borderline primal while sipping a cold beer. Only hiccup was asking for pepper jack and getting blue cheese instead, but the bar was super apologetic and comped us a free beer for the mix-up. Shoutout to them for that. The beer menu leans lighter, crisper, and a little sweeter, with lots of lagers and ciders. Everything I tried was genuinely tasty. Overall, like I said... I'm absolutely coming back to work my way through the rest of their food and beer lineup.

The venue itself is cool, it 's basically just a warehouse and has a good amount of seating and lots of pinball machines (fun). Not sure if this is normal for them or if their taps were broken but they only had 1 beer and 1 cider available and they were being served out of a red cooler at just above room temperature. 2 of our dishes came out after 10 minutes and after 30+ minutes, I had to ask about our other friend's food that never came out to which they couldn't find the ticket for and ended up refunding. I ordered the burger, which was good. My friend ordered the tacos, which she enjoyed. I also got the churros which none of their menus (online or in person) mentioned were filled - these were not good. Probably wouldn't have gotten them if I knew they were filled. Wasn't a terrible experience but wasn't great either.. my friend hypes this place so I might give it another try but as of that one visit, not impressed.

Walked into what is clearly a local institution - the kind of place where regulars know the staff's kids' names. Weekday evening crowd skewed silver-haired, which in my experience is always a good omen. These people have been eating out for decades - they know where the bodies are buried and where the good food is. Server was legitimately excellent. Paced the order so apps didn't collide with entrees - a simple move that most places fumble. Checked in without hovering. Knew the menu cold. Then this happened: I asked for a Pliney. He asked, "Elder or Younger?" That's when I had to pause. In all my years of ordering Plineys, no one has ever asked me that. Because no one has ever randomly had Pliney the Younger on tap. These guys did - apparently a locally advertised special that had been going on that day. They had a Keg of this rare stuff, and it was depleting quickly. I got the Younger on repeat till I was barely stumbling out of the place. Life is good. Ordered the Cheesesteak and it was legit - not playing around. The family went burgers, hot dogs, and wings. Zero complaints across the board. Bar fare done right, priced right, with zero pretension. Sometimes the best finds are the ones you didn't plan for.

American Bull is a solid sports bar serving up refreshing drinks and tasty food! This recent trip…read morewas actually my second time here, though the first time feels like forever ago (some time pre-pandemic). LOCATION: Its home is within the Burlingame Plaza, next door to a Lunardi's grocery store. It's located directly across from the Mills-Peninsula Medical Center on the corners of Trousdale and El Camino Real. PARKING: There generally is enough parking, though you may have to walk a bit further depending on the time of day and how busy it is. The lot and area seem safe, even at night when other things in the shopping center have closed down. INSIDE: We went on a Sunday evening, around 6pm to watch the Sunday Night Football game. It was actually pretty busy, though there was some bar and highboy seating as well as a couple tables still available. We went with the traditional table because the older we get, the more we appreciate back support. There are TVs EVERYWHERE. Most of the walls are lined with TVs, playing a variety of sports, but mostly whatever's local or the "main game". It's also pretty loud-you're still able to have a conversation amongst a smaller group of people, but you definitely have to be listening intently. There is a lot of cool, mostly local, sports memorabilia. They have a whole Giants corner, in addition to lots of Niners autographed jerseys, helmets, and footballs. There's also a wall with dozens of autographed baseballs. We took some time to look at the names, and noticed the likes of Mickey Mantle, Willie McCovey, and plenty of other Hall of Famers! DRINKS: Their drink menu consists of 10+ white wine, 6 red wine, and 2 sparkling wine options available by the glass or the bottle. They have bottled beer (domestic, imports, and microbrew) and cans (White Claw, High Noon, Wyder's Pear Cider, Ace Joker apple cider, and Guinness). They also have a couple non-alcoholic beer options, and other non-alcoholic options (coffee, tea, Pepsi products, juice, and Arnold Palmers). They also have over a dozen beers on tap, as well as a full bar that can provide shots and likely make most cocktails. Prices for most drinks are actually quite reasonable for the area--on par with a sports bar more than a fancy restaurant. FOOD: Their menu is surprisingly big for what seems to be a shopping center sports bar. For apps, they have a lot of typical bar food options (fries, onion rings, potato skins, mozzarella sticks, wings, chicken tenders, sliders, quesadillas, tacos, and even Lumpia). There is a section with half a dozen tasty sounding salads, available in full or half sized portions. There is also a separate section for their chili, which is served in a cup or bowl, with shredded cheese, chopped onion, sour cream, and fresh jalapenos. The sandwich portion of the menu runs 10+ deep with options such as burgers, a patty melt, Philly cheese steak, grilled and Buffalo fried chicken, salmon, BLT, and even a hotdog or polish dog (technically not a sandwich)! The entree section has some bangers too, with items like BBQ ribs, NY steak, grilled or blackened salmon, linguini, chicken parm, ravioli, and meatballs. I love that this section has an Italian flair, and want to come back to try things like the chicken parm! This most recent trip we went with friends and split a few things amongst the groups. I got the patty melt, with a side of chili. The melt was solid, not spectacular. I would have liked the grilled onions cooked a little more. The chili was also good, not great. We got all the accoutrements on the side, which allowed us to try it on its own first, then add as we go. Our friends ordered a Chinese chicken salad, and a burger basket with onion rings. They both finished their meals and noted that they enjoyed them! OVERALL: While this is basically a bar, it's also a restaurant. There were several children under the age of 10 running around screaming that were part of larger groups. Not sure if there's a specific time when minors are no longer allowed? The service was friendly enough, and the bathrooms were clean when we went. This is for sure a great spot to grab a drink, bite to eat, and watch a sports game or 3! IG: @bbnem.eats

We really want to see this local spot thrive!…read more We stopped in around 2:30pm on a Saturday afternoon after spotting a sign for matcha soft serve -- it looked like a cool, inviting place. I'm also always on the lookout for great spots for a girls' night out, especially ones with a unique wine list and a vibe that welcomes conversation over a special (even expensive) bottle. There's a lot of potential here. The wine selection was interesting -- definitely not your typical grocery store picks -- and the Japanese sake selection stood out, which was a nice surprise. That said, our experience could have been much better. When we walked in, it wasn't clear what the concept of the space was: a wine shop? Cheese store? Soft serve bar? Wine tasting room? A little clarity or signage could help. More importantly, there was no greeting at all. Three staff members were visible -- one talking to guests at the bar, the other two chatting with each other. Despite us walking around for a solid five minutes, no one made eye contact, acknowledged us, or offered a welcome. That lack of basic hospitality unfortunately left a negative impression. At any place that depends on customer interest -- be it a restaurant, wine bar, shop, or tasting room -- hospitality is everything. A simple hello, eye contact, or "let us know if you have any questions" goes a long way. Even better would have been a brief introduction to the wine program, the soft serve, or how tastings work. Unfortunately, we ended up leaving without the matcha soft serve or a bottle of wine -- and both were things we came in specifically to try and purchase. We didn't even get noticed, as if we never came through the doors. We genuinely want this business to do well. If the staff can be trained to lead with warmth and curiosity, we believe people will not only return but also tell their friends -- just like we would have. That kind of word-of-mouth builds loyal followings, especially in local neighborhoods. We hope to come back soon and see those small but essential improvements. You've got something special here -- now just add the welcome.

One of the things that happened when I visited this bar was I asked for a simple lemonade. The reason was because I had a soccer game the next day and I didn't want to drink alcohol and I wanted to get some electrolytes in me. It would have been very simple for the bartender to just say, "I'm sorry we don't serve lemonade." Instead what he did is say I worked here 20 years and he never served lemonade and then kept scoffing at me. He kept saying this three times, walking back and forth, up until the point the patron next to me even said, "Don't worry about him." After that without even me talking to him, he said, "Who orders lemonade at an Irish pub?" Then without me saying anything, he said, "No one orders lemonade at an Irish pub." I was honestly just trying to get a drink and he made me feel very dumb. Overall if a patron asks you for a drink, it's very easy just to say, "I'm sorry we can't do that," but he kept making me feel like an idiot. I was also surprised they did not serve lemonade; that's a very simple request. He didn't offer any alternatives except for 7-Up, which I didn't really want but paid for anyway. I ended up not drinking it even after I paid for it and leaving the bar. I guess the bartender got what he wanted. He gave me a drink that was other than lemonade; he made me pay for it and I just left the bar unhappy. I would highly recommend against visiting this establishment, especially with the grumpy bartender. He is an older white Irish guy. I understand they might have your own customers at the bar but I think it costs nothing to treat patrons with respect and not tell them that they're stupid for asking for a drink. Overall I would not recommend this place at all. Very enforced error. Sad!
